« Stay with a 10 month baby »

I stayed for two nights in a family room with my daughter and 10 month grandson. The room was immense and the beds very comfortable. It was remarkably quiet. My only niggle was the lack of a mirror in the bedroom. A mirror above the coffee console where you can dry your hair in comfort would have been useful. All the staff we came into contact with were very helpful and polite. Highly recommended.

It was a trip to celebrate my birthday. Arrive at the hotel about 10pm. The room is spacious however no wardrobe. So no place to put luggage and things. Just a tall mirror with space to hang coat behind it. Next morning come down for breakfast as we paid additional for breakfast. Very shock to see that apparently there are nothing and not up to standard at all. Plates and cups are dirty. The hot breakfast are not properly arrange and we afraid of the food get mixed up due to serving spoons are everywhere we end up not eating it. In fact I saw bacon on top of grilled tomato. For religious reason we have to avoid breakfast. Upset by the situation we decided to check out. I am really upset. My.birthday is ruin. The hotel overcharge because service is below the standard of price paid.

« We enjoyed our stay but anyone expecting luxury would probably be disappointed. »

Anyone who uses luxury toilet paper at home would probably be disappointed to note that cheap toilet paper is used in all the rooms. And real budget toilet paper in the bar area. This is not an important point in itself but is indicative of management approach. There are tissues in some rooms but there were none in ours. The build quality suggests it was built with the intention of a higher level of service. But lots of little things show it is not managed that way. For example, (1) Our room was round the back quite a long walk from the car at the front. We noticed it was better to park round the back. Then suddenly the back door was locked one day and we had to walk all the way round to get to our car. (2) There are rolled up carpets stored in one corridor. Presumably they will be fitted soon but there was no sign of it during our stay. (3) To get to our room from the restaurant you have to walk along a tiled corridor covered by a lean-to. When it rains this leaks quite badly leaving puddles on the floor. (4) On Sunday instead of using the tables in the restaurant, food is served in the lobby. Our table was near to the door and we soon found that this was open much of the time since it opens wide automatically every time someone enters or leaves the building. It being March, it felt was quite cold. (5) The lockers in the changing room for the pool use padlocks rather than the more usual system of a coin or token. In a coin/token system we would no doubt have been offered a token so we could use the lockers. With a padlock system, perhaps we should have been offered a padlock. Residents cannot be expected to carry a padlock with them. (6) The showers in the pool and the changing room were out of order. I read this in a review so perhaps it is a long term problem or recurring fault. (7) At breakfast they run out of some breakfast items towards the end. The idea of breakfast being between certain times is you should be able to arrive at any time between those hours and get the same standard of breakfast. (8) The menu is quite short. There is only the one bistro menu. At a hotel where we stayed recently there was a similar structure, (ie if you have paid for dinner you can have the bistro menu or you can have a set amount of money from the a la carte), but they had a rotating bistro menu. In their case they had 3 bistro menus - so on the fourth day you saw the bistro menu from the first day, etc. (9) Given that the menu is quite short they should probably manage not to run out of certain dishes. Especially vegetarian dishes where the options are even less. But several times we ordered things that had run out - including a vegetarian option. (10) The wifi is difficult to connect. It does not use the normal password system in most hotels. Instead it uses a "public" system where you have to go to the hotel's website. You have to reconnect each day and each time you want to use it. And we didn't manage to connect our phones at all. This review form - Having written all the above - which I trust you find helpful - I was disappointed to find I could not just click through the remaining pages. No, you insist on me answering all the questions. If I had not already written the above I would have just abandoned it. I think it is extremely rude to insist on me answering the questions. However, since I have made a certain investment in the form I did not just abandon it. Instead I have just selected the first option in each case. These are not my true answers. I have not read the questions. It is just a work-round. It is, however, another indication of your failure to put yourselves in your customers' shoes. They are good enough to fill in your feedback form in order to help you, and you don't allow them to skip the questions they don't want to answer. You must see how rude this is.

« Confusing dinner booking »

Pool was great, and the room was lovely. Only complaint was I booked dinner whilst booking the room as £18 for a three course meal sounded like a bargain. However the waitor at the hotel seemed to not really know what this pre booking was and then it turns out it restricts you to a very small menu, of which it was clear they chose the cheapest dinner options. Food was lovely but I wish the website had been more clear that the three course meal is restricted.

Great stay in a lovely room, breakfast was excellent. The stay was only let down a little by the grumpy man on the reception when checking in! Tried checking me into the wrong room, no polite conversation borderline rude. Having said that the rest of the staff were great especially Hollie who had arranged our function and was there to make sure all went well, and was surprised to see her again the following morning when again she made the effort to check everything had been ok.

« Disappointing »

There were a series of issues with this, our second stay whilst visiting our son at Hull University. We were told at check in that the sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi were not working. The leisure facilities were the prime reason for booking this hotel. We used the swimming pool, however this was far from relaxing as we were sharing it with a swim school and there was an audience of parents on the side of the pool. We were woken at 7 am by the fire alarm that had been triggered by another guest having a shower - the bathrooms are fitted with fans but ours didn't work and I assume this was also the case in other rooms. With the exception of the reception staff we found no mercurial spirit, housekeeping knocking on the door well before check out and the man at the leisure facilities who couldn't wait for the day to finish. I can only assume he had been fielding complaints all day. The room itself was comfortable and good value however we will try our luck somewhere else next time we visit Hull.

Stayed here before for conferences. Easy to find. Heaps of parking. Rooms modern and contemporary, light and airy. Beds comfortable. Staff helpful and pleasant. Conference buffet catering and arrangements first class. Definitely recommend

The room was fine ( although very basic), the evening meal was one of the best carbonara I have ever tasted but the breakfast the next morning was one of the worst! Everything was drenched in oil and there was not a lot of choice with the continental breakfast. The conference facilities were very good, the water and the sweets were very nice touches, thank you .

Not feedback on my stay but explanation of option of how it was booked : a comments box would be well served where choice buttons are used. Please note that although I have indicated other website below it is only because all company overnight stays have to be through Carlson Wagonlight so they can account for the locations of all employees in case of repatriation needs. Saying that it is my choice as to which of the offered hotels I elect to stay at.
