Secret Escapes deal, which was very good value. Some staff excellent, Marco and Lubo. Needs an update. Good location. Lovely position with countryside views. Food ok. Disappointing bread of the day which was one slice of toasted white bread for £2.50, needs taking off menu! Large room. Comfy bed.

The building and surroundings are good and the bedroom was fine. We asked for a an accessible room which was fine but hand no grab rails near the shower. The problem we had was the food in the evening as the breakfast was quite acceptable. We requested duck at dinner that was overcooked and rubbery and there were 4 desserts on offer but when we asked for 2 separate dishes we were told they were both off the menu.

We arrived to not knowing where reception was as no one was around. Someone then came to a small desk and checked us in. We were disappointed with the classic double room we had, it was not worth the price we paid. There was chewing gum stuck to the floor, a whole or the netted curtain, stain in the toilet and a fair amount of dead and alive bugs. The breakfast was also quite standard. Unfortunately I would not stay here again.

We stayed for a friends wedding, the food was really good and the majority of the drinks were good. Except the cocktails... you shouldn’t have cocktails on the menu if you don’t have a competent barman, we waiting ages for him to make them and they were dreadful!

Loved the hotel, room was beautiful, perfect for our stay. Some aspects could be improved, not all staff were forthcoming and had to ask for several things whilst dining, breakfast time and dinner time and fish I ordered was very dry, took about 45 minutes to arrive at our table. My partner ordered steak and he said it was delicious cooked perfectly. We didn't receive an explanation as to why our meal took so long to arrive, the table next to use finished their starter, main and received their dessert all before we even received our main (we never ordered a starter). Nonetheless, the hotel itself was beautiful.

« Great room, too noisy »

We had a lovely meal and the room seemed great. The price was good. However, it was impossible to sleep before 1 am: the room is completely open to main hotel areas and wedding guests were understandably up past this time, so it was very noisy. The fire exit sign in the room made the room very bright and lots of light was seen around the door too. Also I am not Brian C., I am Mark C.. I have stayed at your Newbury hotel and at Bristol North The Grange on quite a few occasions. I once booked a stay at Bristol Hotel for my father Brian, so maybe this is why you addressed this email incorrectly.

The one thing you need to look at is the cleaning of toilets in the room.The inside rim of the pan was not clean.At breakfast it would have been nice to be offered a choice of how eggs are cooked.Outside when sitting at the tables on the patio could have done with sun umbrellas.

All fine except the bar service/charges and the fact that I booked two rooms as family rooms, they were both just doubles. on 3 occasions I purchased the same drinks and each time the fee was different. Also the bar tariff was highly inflated £8.50 for a Rose wine !!!! The Hilton Park Lane London is cheaper than that.

We have stayed at Mecure Newbury Elcot Park on a couple of occasions and we have to say we were disappointed with this stay. The room we were given was tired and in need of a bit of a spruce up. Chipped skirting board, condensation in the windows and windows that wouldn't open very far which considering the temperature was 29° made the room excruciatingly unbearable. We were also next to the housekeeping store room so there was constant banging of the door. We took advantage of the Royal Wedding deal so the afternoon tea was due to be served with a glass of Prosecco. This was not served with the afternoon tea and when we asked for it we were then questioned about "which deal" we had that included the prosecco. I was then asked for proof!! The afternoon tea itself was very poor. The sandwiches were hard as though it had been standing out for some time. Also the selection was very poor as were the cakes. It was a real shame as we are parents of a young family and had booked the night away as a treat for our 40th Birthday and we felt it was a real disappointment.

Nice room drinks over priced with inconsistent cost of same drinks depending who served you you had one barman who thought it was ok to serve draught becks when each pint he pulled was extremely cloudy and tasted off he was asking me if each pint he pulled looked ok I said your the barman? You should now if you should be selling it
