I checked out after one night. On check-in I was swamped by guests at a wedding reception. Could not get to bar blocked by wedding party. Astonishingly only one barman dealing with same. By 11am in the morning yet another wedding party swamping the hotel. I had my newspaper and personal belongings on my patio seat removed by guests while I was at the bar trying to get a drink. This is not a hotel, it is a wedding venue. Ordinary people seeking accommodation should be warned of the disruption.

We were there for a wedding, which was very enjoyable, there were a couple of things, we as I said we were there for a wedding but was not able to check into our room before the ceremony, so it was lucky that we had come dressed for the wedding, the room wasn't ready until 3pm so had to wait until after the wedding breakfast to get into our room. There was that there was only 1 person behind the bar which made for a long wait and that the barman was miserable.

« Overall, disappointing since our last visit but full marks for your staff. »

Our first room that we were given was unacceptable, second was a great improvement. Facilities lacking. (i.e: 1bath towel, 1hand towel per 2people, 2white sugar sachets per day,etc). The food was repititional. No vanilla ice cream when requested. No hot chocolate when requested. Having been previously three times to Elcot, this time wasn't a great success.

in general ok. staff friendly but at peak times under resourced and stressed. breakfast under staffed with equipment failures leading to confusion and frustration. evening meal choices poor, quality at best average, again understaffed leading to customer complaints and slow service. wine overpriced. afternoon tea served with stale bun!! room ok but tired.

« Very nice hotel let down by service »

The hotel is lovely, in a great location with nice spacious rooms. We were disappointed with the service in the restaurant. We had booked a table for 7.30 pm and we turned up on time to be confronted by two members of staff having an in depth conversation. We were obviously an inconvenience but eventually we were shown to a table. Service was slow, uncleared tables, staff that did not have a clue. The food was first class! Again our plates remained uncleared as staff passed by. Meal over we went to the desk to be told we owed £12. This was a secret escape with £25 allowance each. The Maitre D was very offhand when I queried it stating we were only allowed £22 per person and if we disagreed to sort it with reception. Not very nice, never asked if we had enjoyed the food. If it were a stand alone restaurant we would never revisit. The young staff didn't have a clue and the man in charge well he was unfriendly to say the least. At least three other tables complained when we were there. Strangely the reception staff were first class and a credit to the hotel.

Poor reception. Waited 14 minutes for an unwelcoming lady receptionist to arrive for booking in. Given Room 34. Disgusting. Souless, bare. Bathroom like a small train's corridor. View from sole window onto brick wall and flat roof with an ugly, very noisy air conditioning unit on it. Said we couldn't stay and would leave hotel. Receptionist said there was nothing wrong with room, that the hotel was fully booked. Then suddenly changed her mind and showed my wife and I to Room 27. Much better and acceptable. Not a way to treat regular Mercure hotel visitors. As a former travel/hotel journalist with Cond Nast/Johansens and national magazines/newspapers (35 years). I thought this service and Room 34 among the worst I have witnessed. Booked via Daily Mail offer.

Staff are amazing, professional and kind. The room may need an update I’ve been coming for 15years. The lunch was ok except the pizza was frozen and the soup was not homemade. Not hard to do. The restaurant doesn’t have much atmosphere due to the cold tiled floor and glass everywhere great for breakfast but not warm and cozy for dinner. Please fix up the gym. I used it everyday and it’s a good selling point for the hotel.

Awful, not to be repeated. When you host a wedding you should not have other guests if there is to be a very loud disco; alternatively house your other guests away from the noise, not directly above the disco.

We stayed with another couple of friends on a DB&B package, which was excellent value and included a £25pp allowance towards dinner. Breakfast also included. First impression on arriving in the hotel grounds was positive, it being in a lovely setting with generous parking and an imposing building. On entering the hotel, we felt that the reception area was a let-down, with a tiny Reception desk and carpet that was well past its ‘best before’ date. Staff were welcoming and friendly, however, and check-in was painless. We had an adjoining room to our friends’ room in the newer extension to the original house and it was simple and dated but satisfactory. The bathroom in particular could do with a re-fit, but some simple upgrades like new taps and a better quality toilet seat would alternatively make for low-cost, big-impact improvements. Dinner was good (the garlic bread described as “real” on the menu aside, which was over priced at £3.50 each for 3 inches of baguette and toasted dry). Waitresses were excellent. The only downside was that our stay coincided with an evening wedding party, which was not brought to our attention before arrival or at check-in and we suffered disco music through most of our dinner and afterwards when we went to bed, until about midnight. Breakfast was good and we enjoyed lovely views out over the vast grounds that the hotel sits in. We paid for the surplus over and above our dinner allowance in cash, but we were surprised the next morning at check out, to hear that there was £6 to pay on our restaurant bill. The bill on the system was a completely different amount to our bill the night before so something had gone wrong. The manager passed the query on to the restaurant to deal with but he removed the charge and was very friendly about the mix up. All in all, we enjoyed our stay and we accept that weddings are an critical part of the hotel’s business, but other guests should at least be informed of some disturbance that will inevitably occur. The hotel must surely be on a Mercure list of premises in need of upgrade as it does need it but nonetheless, not disastrously so and we enjoyed our stay, especially with the great deal we had.

Finding the light switch down the side of wardrobe in the dark was only surpassed by being kept awake by the sound of the person next door vomiting. It would appear you have double charged me for the room as well.....I have an extra charge of £80 pending on my card.

« Noisy and stressful! »

The room we were given was directly above a disco, the music was so loud the floor was vibrating, my 1 year old daughter could would not sleep due to the noise, my partner and I finally got to sleep after the disco had finished. We complained to reception and asked to be moved to a different room but were told this was not possible, a member of staff came up to our room to see how loud it was for himself and agreed it was not acceptable. I am also waiting for a £29.60 reimbursement for a 47minute phone call when booking the room in the first place, I have had no further contact on this.
