We booked this as a treat for our family - stating the ages of our 4 children and asking for the 3 rooms to be joined or at the very least next to each other at time of booking. A few days before our visit I called and checked with the hotel that the rooms were together and I was reassured that they were. When we arrived we were told that our room was on a different floor to the childrens' and when we expressed dismay we were told there was nothing that could be done as the hotel was full as there was a wedding on. That was the first of many times that this was given as an excuse to us over the course of our stay. We did pay a visit to the swimming pool and found it tired and old - which I understand is not necessarily within your power to address, however it was also filthy, which is something that can be addressed. I have subsequently read your hotel reviews and this is a common problem so I am not impressed that this has not been kept on top of. The first evening we ate in the restaurant - we were the first in the dining room but the length of time the service took was ridiculous. We nearly gave up between courses as the wait was so long. We were in the dining room for almost 3 hours waiting for our drinks and then meal. All the while hearing apologises from the staff for the slow service due to the fact that they "had a wedding on". The key matter that I was disgusted with was I ordered a halloumi dish and it turned up - after an excessive wait - with cheddar cheese instead of halloumi. I understand that kitchens run out of food - we had been given a very long list of dishes that were not available at the beginning of our meal - due to the wedding, but no mention was made of halloumi. The fact that the kitchen tried to pass it off is, I am sure, illegal. I declined to re-order as we had already been waiting a ridiculous length of time and we just wanted for the meal to be over. The Head waiter promised to inform reception so that they could sort things out, but when we asked the next morning there was no record of anything having been mentioned to the reception team. Once again, being given the excuse that they had been very busy because of the wedding. By the end of our stay we were informed at check out that our drinks had not been charged for but there was no formal apology for the fact that I was given a meal that was not what was described with no warning that the ingredients would be replaced. We had saved up for a long time to have this treat with our family and every part of our stay was not the special experience that we hoped it would be. I am afraid we were not impressed with Mercure. The only positive thing I can say is that the staff were all very polite, even though they did all have the same excuse to give for poor service.

We are used to using Ibis and Novotel so had high expectations of Mercure which is one tier up from them. No lifts available was not good as we had mentioned while booking we had mobility problems. We were on second floor. Bathroom was the biggest disppointment as huge let-down after Ibis and Novotel. I'd guess Accor bought old building and doing their best to maintain it but not update it. Only had bath with shower over it and impossible for us to use as we cannot get in and out of bath. Entry to shower area of bath was restricted due to wall between bath and basin so to get in or out we would have had to stand on slippy bit of the bath. We were there for 4 nights and on night 3 we were locked out of bedroom due to faulty door lock. Staff reprogrammed this and we eventually got in. On fourth night the same thing happened - NOT good! Staff were fantastic and problems at this hotel are certainly not down to them. Richard and Sue in particular were really helpful to us. I would not recommend this hotel to people who are elderly or disabled. We are in our seventies and found it quite a struggle due to lack of lifts and unsuitable bathroom.

A bit disappointing

Wanted restful easy break. Used to Ibis nd Novotel and loved their shower pods. As we are in our 70s and can no longer get n and out of bath we were really looking forward to this as Mercure is one step up price-wise from the other two in Accor Group. We gor ordinary bath with whower over it - no use to us. We'd lso noted on booking form we had mobility problems. We were not informed there were no lifts and we were on second floor. We had a four night stay and on the third and fourth nights we were locked out our room as the room lock itself was faulty. They reprogrammed it on third night but same fault occurred on fourth night. We were glad it was time to go home then. All the staff were very attentive and friendly and cannot be held at all responsible for the problems within the building itself. Sue and Richard were specially good.

The location is fantastic. But unfortunately it was not the best experience staying at your hotel. There were not enough staff during our stay. We booked with Secret Escapes and it took us ten minutes to find someone to serve our complimentary Presecco. There was only one girl manning breakfast on Sunday morning. Our bathroom smelt very damp and the shower fluctuated from hot to boiling. Also the spa is looking very tired and dated and would advice investigating in a refurbishment to attract repeat custom. It is a shame because you are in such a prime location for the park and ride and Chester Zoo.

It was ok. But my room was very outdated and tired. It took 10 minutes to get hot water from the shower. Definitely not worth the hefty price that I paid. A Travelodge would've been preferable under the circumstances. The bar prices were extortionate. £25 for a £6 bottle of wine and £5 for a pint of lager.

Fantastic very clean however hotel was a little more dated then I expected. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Just think rooms need abit of an update. Only bad thing was shower in room - would only run red hot or nothing at all.

We were very happy to find the hotel after a long journey. The registration was done with no fuss and were were shown to our rooms whch, as requested, were on the ground floor. Beds were comfortable but the shower was in the bath tub making it impossible for an elderly person to use. Breakfast was satisfactory and adequate with a very helpful staff.

Me and my friend really enjoyed the spa packaged. We had 2 night stay dinner and breakfast included plus 1 25 minuate treatment. Each staff member we came across was so friendly we even was greeted goodmorning walking down the corridor. We was especially overwhelmed by the service in the swimming pool reception on our first night he was extremely friendly to us and so helpful showing around the pool. We had 2 dinners one was not as nice as the other but our breakfast was gorgeous alot of variety. The rooms were as pictured and extremely clean and even though there were two weddings both nights we stayed we could not hear any noise from the party apart from guest passing our room which was not a problem. Me and my friend will be returning.

Staff excellent. Room clean. We enjoyed our stay. Food excellent. Park and ride into Chester very convenient to the Hotel. We walked to the park and ride and found the pavement overgrown and rather uneven. This would be difficult for disabled or elderly people who had difficulty walking but it was an excellent service.

The staff were very friendly and helpful and the hotel and rooms very clean but the room décor was oppressive and not relaxing (very dark colours) no wardrobe or drawers and pillows uncomfortable although mattress was very good. Room very hot as openable window very small and room noisy due to traffic on busy road.

Hotel staff were friendly and helpful, our breakfast was enjoyable with a good choice of food and our room was clean and comfortable. However our second night was very disturbed both in the very late evening (12 midnight onwards for a period of time) and the early morning (from 06:00 hours onwards) due to neighbouring guests slamming their room door repeatedly and speaking very loudly - it appeared that they may be arguing at one point; I was going to speak to them or contact hotel staff but when I looked through the door spyglass it appeared that there were hotel staff outside their room. Obviously this disturbed our sleep repeatedly on our second night. When we reported the disturbance from neighbouring guests to reception staff the following morning, we were given two different explanations for this, with the second explanation including that it was due to cultural differences. We did not feel that this addressed the issue and therefore does not make us feel confident that were this issue to arise again that it would be dealt with and addressed expediently or appropriately. Despite cultural differences we do not feel that other guests should show such disregard for the wellbeing of their neighbouring guests.

We found that the pictures provided of the family room prior to booking did not match the reality. This was misleading as the pictures showed two double beds whilst the room we were given had one double and one single. Very poor ventilation and insufferable heat.
