« Issues with water pressure and room heat »

The reception staff are good and pleasant. Bar staff outstanding Breakfast good Room Poor: The Shower did not work due to excessively low water pressure and hardly any hot water The room radiator was on full all night, and the thermostat did not respond Excessive build up of dust on all surfaces. Minor grip: the taxi service recomended by the hotel failed to show twice.

Room very small even though we knew it was described as compact it was not fit for purpose. The tv was no accessible and the writing desk had no lighting above it. The whole room needed a makeover the wallpaper was tatty and the bath had a hole in it which was patched up and the radiator was filthy. We were glad we were staying for one night. In the morning at breakfast there were dustbins in the restaurant to catch water that was leaking from the roof. Will never stay in one of these hotels again.

Although smaller than our classic room we feel that our compact rooms offer good value and are price accordingly. I am sincerely that although advertised as compact your room did not meet your expectations. Unfortunately during your stay a guest left his bath running which in turn overflowed and flooded the restaurant. As an emergency measure we had to correct the leak. Although out of our control please do accept my apologies for any inconvenience caused. Given ground floor room closest to main entrance which was very helpful as I use a scooter and have a lot of oxygen supplies to unload. Only complaint, plain coffee £3.60!!

« Rather disappointing in some respects »

The distance from the reception to our room was really excessive for an older couple. It necessitated carrying our luggage up a flight of stairs and then along three long corridors. We have never experienced a hotel so badly laid out that it took a very long and boring trek to reach one's room. One had to plan not to return to one's room after breakfast before going out. Where was the lift? Dinner also disappointing with the rump steaks served cold on a cold plate

The room was slightly dated I felt the food was expensive - no side with the fish platter The katsu burger could have done with an accompanying side We went for three courses earlier in the day and had drinks and this was nicer and a lot cheaper (even though there were more courses and drinks) than the food we had with you

« We drove home at 1 am because the room was so noisy. »

Our son and his wife bought us a voucher for a treat to stay in a hotel of our choice for one night plus evening meal and breakfast. (This was through "Red Letter Days". ) The evening meal was small with no additional vegetables. The waiting on staff were lovely. I ordered a small glass of Rose wine and was shocked to be charged £6.60. My husband was glad he had only drunk water. Therefore we did not go to the bar for the evening. The room was fine and the bed was comfortable. We wanted to go to sleep at 10 pm because we wanted to be down early for breakfast and have a good day's walking and sight seeing. The room was ok and we wouldn't have complained at the decor. However the walls are paper thin and all noise from the adjoining rooms could be heard. The TV at one side was on loud until 12.30am. When that was switched off we could hear the couple in the room the other side talking. When they stopped talking the man started snoring, again the walls are paper thin. We dressed and packed. Your night manager offered us a different room at that point but we were wide awake and the thought of our own silent bedroom with a comfortable bed overcame us. We are delighted that we only booked for one night. The next day we checked Tripadvisor, which we will at all times be checking before we make a booking in the future. Judging by the comments on Tripadvisor, we got off lightly and we are very glad we did not stop for breakfast the next day. It was likely that would have been a bad experience. The booking was a total waste of time. And we did not get any sleep, any breakfast and no sightseeing the next day either. We won't be booking again. And we won't be accepting any gifts from "Red Letter Days" either.

Not great, slow check in , gained entry to our room only for guests in the next room to open the adjoining door and enter whist preparing to shower, tried to call reception never answered the phone, dressed and went to reception to explain the situation, he advised he would come and lock the adjoining door, 20 minutes later he did, went to bar waited 15 minutes to get served, breakfast the following morning dustbins at entrance to catch water leaking from the roof. Not a great experience.

The welcome was pefect, as was the room ( we were offered an upgrade) the bar stock my favorite cider, stella artois cidre!!!!!! The staff at diner were friendly and helpful, specially the new one, Zack, verycharming. The hotel is very convenient for Chester and all the attractions around, easy access. Will definitely come back as soonas possible.

Paint on the wall of room looked like vomit, furnishings made me feel like I’d been transported back to the 70’s/80’s & not in a good way, but room was clean & tidy at least. Showers in the women’s change were a trickle, lockers looked like something in a prison, and it smelled musty. Room 112 needs soundproofing with being next to the stairs as I could hear everyone who came up & down the stairs, keeping me awake throughout the night & early hours of the morning. Could do with a sign asking guests to be quiet when passing by the rooms. Bed was so uncomfortable, I woke up with a headache & a sore back. Very disappointing. Rooms decor very dated. Bathroom very warm. Shower was not warm in the morning and shower head needed cleaning. There was a cardboard sign advertising your food and it was totally covered in dust. Light fittings all had dust on them. The bed was very comfortable and the positives were full length mirror, fan available if too hot, decent hairdryer. Reception area very nicely decorated for Christmas.

On arrival just after 1400h no room's were ready. After 10 to 15 minutes we were allocated a room. This was on the second floor and extremely dirty, even cobwebs hanging from the lights. After complaining we moved rooms to the groud floor. This was fine, we'll better, apart from the heating system made a noise similar to a loud dripping tap. For our second night we requested this was resolved, however, if any thing was done no better. The restaurant should be congratulated, two very enjoyable meals. The overall impression was a very tired hotel and not worth a second visit.
