Great, friendly staff, who were always happy to help. Rooms were clean and the beds were comfortable. We enjoyed the welcome pack. We had a buffet breakfast every morning, which the children were delighted by, with a good range of food to satisfy all our tastes. We also had very nice pizza and chips at the bar in the evening. The swimming pool was a popular feature for the children, especially as the weather wasn’t great. The only niggle was that the swimming pool, changing rooms and showers were a bit tired and could benefit from a revamp, but were still clean and great for the children to let of steam while the adults got a bit of time in the steam room. The hotel itself is located near to a Park and Ride, so we got the bus into Chester, rather than needing to navigate round central Chester looking for a parking space. Great overall experience and we will look to staying again next time we are in Chester.

Your staff made our stay extra special. Nothing was too much trouble. The only downside: the clothes storage in the room was inadequate. More like travelodge and not expected in a four star hotel! The food was well prepared but the menu was limited. Does everyone want burgers? The chef did go our of his way though to please. We would come again but where to store clothes for a week?

Clean hotel with very friendly staff. Had dinner in bar which was lovely, breakfast following morning in restaurant was also lovely slightly disappointed there was no hash browns. Bedroom felt cramped and outdated.

Overall very good but with three young children we found the dinner service a bit slow to suit children although fine for adults. Having booked a very early meal we did expect to be out of the dining room in less than 2 hours.

It was a lovely hotel. Unfortunately, one of the waiters made me and my partner feel undermined and unworthy of being in the restaurant. As we paid for the drinks, I held out my hand for the change, and he through it on the table. He also paid more attention to other customers in the restaurant, asking them how their food was, but seemed to ignore me and my partner. This was the reason why the stay wasn't thoroughly enjoyed.

All staff were pleasant, especially Clara who checked us in. However, the building was looking rather tired with worn out patches of carpet, and chipped paintwork in places. A lightbulb was replaced quickly.

This hotel smelt very damp on arrival in reception. On arrival to our room it was the same. We contacted reception and they moved us straight away and this bedroom was lovely no smell and was on second floor. Staff at hotel very helpful and polite and food was lovely both evening meal and breakfast

Staff were very helpful and friendly from the offset. Called to book to check for prices. Offered very competitive prices and the different rooms and rates available to us. As we were booking for a couple and a young baby they advised the best room for us without trying to enforce the larger family room that we didn't really need. On arrival staff were very polite and helpful when checking in and guiding us to/helping with the lift. The room itself was spacious and exactly what we needed. Excellent cleanliness too. A number of staff members around the hotel were keen to help us with doors/move cleaning trolleys etc when we came through with our pram without being asked. We enjoyed a lovely breakfast in the morning and were delighted to find out that we could swim with our baby boy too for no extra cost. The fitness suite/spa staff were also exceptionally helpful and provided towels and a safe space to leave our pram. We would definitely look to book again based on our stay and as a bonus it is so close to the zoo and a large supermarket for baby bits we had forgotten.

The room was nice and spacious, the food was delicious, the staff were friendly and approachable. We didn't manage to use the spa, pool or the gym as we were only there for 2 days and spent the time out in Chester. I would be willing to spend 4/5 days here to experience more of what the hotel has to offer.

food was very good and the pool and sauna etc facilities are great. Staff were friendly and helpfull. The Rooms are a bit small Standard double? and the floor boards are quite creaky along the corridor. Great location for getting into chester on the park and ride bus. £2.00 return with free parking at hotel.

Friendly staff and a polite welcome but the whole place is in need of a drastic refurbishment. Did not feel like a 4 star hotel. We only chose a Mercure Hotel over others as we stayed in the Mercure Arras in the summer which was also 4 star. We were so impressed with the hotel that when it came to a break in the UK we decided to go for a Mercure. When we arrived the lady on reception was lovely. On arrival to our room we were disappointed. No space to store anything and a room that only just fit a family of three, not even space to sit other than on the beds. This was not a huge problem but very different to the room we had in another Mercure Hotel at the same price. The biggest issue was the smell when we entered the room. It smelt damp and unclean, almost as though the previous occupants had left and the room had not been cleaned/aired. The room itself desperately needs refurbishment it was old, tired and in a state of disrepair. Admittedly we did not raise this during our stay as we just wanted to enjoy our family time. This theme continued in the pool. We were welcomed by a lovely staff member who was really helpful. We were told we could change in the disabled/family change (our little girl is 4). It was dirty, smelly, unhygienic and a very unpleasant experience. Again the pool could be so amazing but needs refurbishment. We also booked a meal in the hotel on the second evening. We wish we had not bothered. The menu was narrow in choice, overpriced and little more that poor ‘pub’ food. Four star accommodation should have food that matches this. The worst part of the meal was that they got my daughters meal wrong. As we could not eat until 6.30pm (not very family friendly) we wanted to order quickly. Service was disorganised and they brought mine and my husbands food first. The waiter said the chilli would be along in a minute. My husband thought he was joking. My daughter had ordered chicken and vegetables. He brought chilli out and when we explained he apologised and said he would sort it. At least 20 minutes later, with a further prompt from us her meal arrived. My daughter was upset therefore I had not eaten my meal as I had said I would wait for her. So I had a cold meal and my daughter ate far too late. The waiter kept saying we could have drinks but we had bought a bottle of wine and my daughter already had two drinks. I had to suggest that her meal should be free. I was dissapointed with this response and with the whole restaurant experience. The whole stay has left me wondering if we should use Mercure in the future. We certainly won’t stay at the Abbots Well Hotel again.
