« A base to stay »

Having stayed before and being disappointed, we decided to stay again. The rooms were tired looking along with the hotel. Th floor was so nosy when walking and we were woken by other guests. We didn’t eat in the hotel due to a bad experience the last time. The spa facilities are great until swimming lessons start this should be something stated on the website. It is a good location and the park and ride is next door so able to ride into Chester.

Loved our stay, stayed in the Room at the Top suite and was really impressed, plenty of room, huge bed, everything lovely and clean. Restaurant and reception staff all friendly and efficient. Meal in the restaurant was really enjoyable. Altogether a great relaxing weekend for my husband and i.

« Could do better! »

We paid for an upgraded room (room no 123) but there was too much noise from the adjoining room due to the interconnecting door not being insulated. We did think but we could get a lie in after a disturbed night but our neighbours were up and about at 6.30am. In addition the breakfast staff seemed overwhelmed on Sunday morning. Hot plates ran out at the buffet and I had to request plates to be provided. Then I was faced by one lonely fried egg and had to wait for fresh eggs to be provided by which time my wife had finished her meal. We would have like to have breakfast by a window but all those tables had not been cleared. When we left the hotel and said goodbye the reception staff barely looked up from their computer screens.

« Staff very polite, relaxing hotel. »

Overall a fantastic stay. Breakfast was fab, lovely range of fruit, cereal and cooked breakfast. Checkout wasnt untill 12 oclock which was also fab! Bed extremely comfortable (other than the 3am wake up from next door coming in and putting music on, which was jot the hotels fault) best 2 nights sleep ive had. Very minor things that were not perfect. Wanted a coffee in the lounges, there was nobody on the bar with a sign saying see reception. So i went to inform reception about wanting to order coffies and was told they would get someone. They never did so we didnt get any refreshments. Swimming lessons are on while in the pool area, didnt make to much difference as the pool was quite while we used it but if there had been 2 or more other adults wanting to swim there would have been very limited room.

Rude person on reception, check in time was changed from 2 to 4pm because the hotel was busy? Staff in dining area made fun of my name, plates too hot to pick one up, food was not brought in a timely manner and guests were stood waiting, room was hotter than a sauna and managers response to this was that we had not booked an air conditioned room?

Overall, I had a good stay here. My only gripe is that there was only one person on reception when I checked in. Surely hotels know that 5.00 - 6.00 pm is peak time for check-ins on a weekday ! The queue here was nearly out the door and I just felt sorry for the poor bloke on reception !

« Very disapointing »

I have stayed in many Mercure hotels and this was the poorest. It appeared to be lacking three main things: 1) Investment 2) Strong Management 3) A Housekeeper In a premium room why no wardrobe? The front desk was normally manned by only one person so waiting was the norm. Plus points were a good location if travelling by car and a tasty breakfast.

Room was fine and rest of general experience was fine, but was very annoyed with the check in process. We booked a family room, and a cot, which should have been a clue to the fact we had a baby. When we arrived complete with pram the person on reception offered to change our room to one which would be 'bigger'. I checked this room and it was quite small. It transpired that she was concerned about how we would get the buggy to the room we had initially been allocated as it was upstairs without a lift. Due to the failure of this hotel to allocate us a suitable room, we were essentially being offered a downgrade! Needless to say, I declined. When later on in the stay I said I wanted to complain about being offered a downgrade without a refund for the more expensive room we had booked it was only at this point I was informed I could be refunded the difference. Instead, we had to deconstruct the pram each time we took the baby upstairs, and then carry our disabled child, complete with feeding pump, in his card seat to a room up the stairs at the far end of the hotel. This is not suitable in 2018.
