The only issue I would say that was negative, is that when the wooden floors of 1st floor corridors are being walked on, they are noticeable to be very squeaky and noisy. Several times my young daughter was awoken.

« Pleasant stay but nothing out of this world. »

Stayed for just one night at the beginning of February. The heating was on prior to us getting to the room so it was lovely and warm when we arrived. The hotel lobby was tidy and made a great first impression when we walked in. The bar was expensive, but as expected. I was told by the girl behind the bar that cocktails were available but she didn’t have a cocktail menu so I had Peach Schnapps and fresh orange juice which cost me nearly £7!! The room was nice, and the bed was so comfy! A bit small for space, the pictures on the website and Trip Advisor make the rooms seem a lot bigger, but we only stayed the one night so it wasn’t that much of a big deal to us. I would definitely stay there again, and would love it if the hotel provided shower caps in the rooms (I have a lot of hair and can’t be bothered washing it every night, and the shower in our room was very powerful so it bounced off the wall and wet my hair anyway... which I was trying to avoid).

« Not as good as I was expecting. »

Our stay was definately not as expected. We arrived at around 3pm on the Sunday and checked in. We had booked your hotel for a relaxing weekend for our 10 year wedding anniversary. Booking through secret escapes we were supposed to receive a glass of prossecco on arrival but had to ask for our vouchers as they weren’t automatically given. The bar was empty and no staff around. We sat for about 45 minutes before a young girl appeared behind the bar to serve. She may well have been on a break which she is of course entitled to but for first impressions this was not a good start. Our next issue was that, The hotel was not particularly busy yet we were allocated a room at the furthest point of the hotel (room166) I could not understand why this was as surely we could have been allocated one closer but the room itself was ok on first impressions. Unfortunately, we found that the bathroom was only set up for one person and had to ask for an additional bath towel. We then experienced further issues overnight where the room was very cold even with the radiator on full it was not getting warm. I mentioned this to reception on the morning and the young lady on the desk said she would get someone from maintenance to check it out. Luckily, a very efficient and seemingly competent member of staff named Kerry came to our aid and said she felt it would be better for us if we moved rooms. So we packed our belongings and moved rooms. We were told it was an upgrade and we would receive slippers, robes and a newspaper , all of which never materialised!! Although this wasn’t so much of a problem as we weren’t expecting them anyway. My only other disappointment was breakfast. Your staff were very lovely and polite but completely disorganised. The cooked breakfast hot plates were never full at the same time!! When we first arrived there were no sausages , fried bread or eggs so we waited and thought we would have a coffee first. Oh no, the coffee machine did not work and we had to wait 5 mins for the water to refill and reboil. The sausages were then replenished but nothing else til 5 mins later, then within minutes, the queue of people had filled their plates and it was all gone again. I cannot understand why the chef did not cater more efficiently. Finally, I really think the spa facilities could do with an upgrade. The steam room didn’t work at all, the sauna looked filthy and run down and the grout around the pool tiles was dirty and brown . We were planning on using the spa facilities more but after our first visit we didn’t go back again. So overall a very disappointing stay.

« Great weekend stay »

Was a great experience, no trouble whilst here, all staff were warm, welcoming and very friendly and helpful! Only minor issue was while having drinks in the bar on the Saturday night there was no music or sound on the tele because sound system had broken, nobody’s fault though and couldn’t be helped.

« Tired and staff stretched »

Felt very tired especially bathroom and pool. Staff all tried hard. Breakfast was not what we would normally expected for 4* range limited and quality mediocre. Had to ask 3 times for bread to be restocked and once for juice. No clearing of table during breakfast. Staff seemed stretched but always polite and helpful. Bathroom in room needed refurbishment (esp bath panel). Changing rooms for pool not clean and not locks for lockers had runout but only a dozen guests using facilities. Had to take items on to poolside (including outdoor shoes!).

« Decent Hotel »

Our third visit to this hotel as a family. Decent rooms though showers were a let down. Lovely meal in restaurant and bottle of Prosecco in the rooms. Situated very near to the "Park and Ride" and only about 5 mins to Chester city centre on the bus. All in all a really nice 2 night stay - kids loved the pool. Oh and a big "Thank You" to Simon the barman - absolutely fantastic customer service - you need to look after him Mercure!!

The valentines package sounded really promising, box of chocolate, champagne and a free 3 course meal with the room. So me and my girlfriend booked it as it was our 3 years of being together this paticular weekend. We received the box of chocolate we received a fruity rose instead of champagne (as I asked to change as we do not like champagne) but the confusion then started when we went to get our meal. We had the valentines menu and picked off of that, the steak has a £7 suppliment to it and I added some peppercorn sauce which was £2.50 so therefore it should be a suppliment of £9.50 for the whole meal. The first check we received was with the wrong food on it and asking for about £10-15 extra for the meal. Then we pointed the mistake out and then the second check came in and it came to £25 extra (even though we payed for the valentines package) then we pointed that out then and after two attempts of trying to get more money out of us (which we felt like they were doing) they got the check right. Luckily we checked the check before paying the bill in the first place. It was all messy and not well though out! Check your bill at the end as this might happen to you! Also when my girlfriend went for a shower. There were no bars to help gout in and out of the bath to have a shower and no anti slip mat as standard? Because of this my girlfriend slipped and hit her knee on the side of the bath and now has a bruise on her knee because of it - could of been worse, banged her head on the floor, luckily this didn't happen this time around. After this happened we realised there was a caution sign above the bath, but it was all ripped and the writing on it was all scratched off so could nearly see it. Again take care when entering and exiting the bath for a shower as you stand up, it is slippery beyond normal.

Really nice we had a welcome glass of prosecco and our room was always nice and warm and welcoming. We didnt use the restaurant this time but breakfast was ok.

The staff were friendly and efficient. The bedroom was a bit of a let down. The bed was comfortable but the housekeeping needs improvement. The ceiling wallpaper was cracking and there were some obvious signs of dust. The bathroom was unpleasant as the tiles in the bath and the toilet bowl and sink plug were dirty. The towel rail was not heated and therefore the towels did not dry.

The hotel is slightly tired looking in some areas but the staff really made the experience special. Each and every team member we came in to contact with was friendly & efficient. The breakfast was okay but the dinner we had in the brasserie was fantastic, Great atmosphere and wonderful tasting food.

« OK, would probably not rush to go back. »

Friendly staff when checking in but I raised a concern with the checking out staff that a man had walked into my room 6am whilst me and my friend was asleep, it really frightened us and could not settle back after it, when I had to bring it up on checking out the lady then said that the man had told her and was apologetic, which is fine as mistakes happen, but I think that shw could have apologised before I had to bring it up or ofered a drink or anything as a good will gesture but I dont thibk she understood how much it frightened us.

Meal on first night was awful. Took an hour and a half for main courses, had four children with us, when it arrived pizza was obviously a frozen one and my curry barely covered the bottom of the dish. Complained, when new curry cane dish was so hot, my wrist touched it and burnt badly, scarred now, blistered at the time.
