« Excellent value for two night stay »

We have stayed at Mercure hotels before and they are all excellent value for money. The only snags we came across at Mercure Wetherby was the temperature and lighting in the dining area. It was very cold and the radiators could not be made to work. Portable electric heaters were brought in with little success . Also we had to ask for the lights to be switched on on both nights of our stay as with the dimmed lighting it was very hard to read the menus. In fact on the first evening when the lights were switched on the man at the next table said "Oh thete is someone there"!

« Disappointed with evening meals »

Helpful staff. Room was clean. Bed was comfortable, though trimming round mattress was coming off. Evening meals were not good, we were with a coach party and did not get the same menu that was on offer in the brassiere. Our choice was limited and when it came was not very nice-so disappointed! On a special anniversary weekend away I was looking forward to being cooked for. The breakfast was ok.

« Hotel very good »

The only issue is my mum tried booking this through your reservations team and gave up due to the length of time and messing about by the team - She then phoned directly through to the hotel reception desk whereupon the booking was dealt with immediately and very efficiently. The actual cost of the phones calls cost a total of £15.00 which shows how long this took to book so any discount she received didn't really cover the cost and inconvenience caused.

Hotel is rated 3* and assumed it would be like Premier Inn, The building is circa 1970s with an air of Cross Roads Motel from the outside. The interior would suit reflecting that era but instead is a strange mix of 80s and 90s. It is highly dated. Reception was quick and friendly, we had no problem registering our vehicle to void parking charges. The room 1010 was spacious but the decor is horrid with strange gloss painted walls and shabby furniture. It appeared to have been cleaned well and the bed was large and comfortable. There were broken tiles near the shower door entrance which had obviously been there for some time with some grout or sealant added as a poor repair. We thought this dangerous and not good for health and hygiene. Hotel was very quiet first night Sunday, we were the only couple booked in for a meal so could not eat in the restaurant. We ate our meal in the bar area with a TV on and the tables covered in leaflets warning non residents to spend £15 or face parking charges. Not relaxing at all and glad to retreat to our room. Starters were Prawn Cocktails (£7.50) (supposed to contain King Prawns) but were small watery prawns that had been defrosted. Main course not good, opted for fish platter (14.50?) which was battered calamari, fish and breaded scampi with some garlic dip, no vegetables or sides or salad, quite odd and very greasy. Would not recommend but the bar man/manager was very friendly and helpful, gin and tonic was the best part of the meal. Ate out the second evening. We were booked in for two nights and slightly fearing breakfast the next day. As not many in the hotel was cooked to order and was actually very tasty. Only poor component was the coffee from the machine. Both nights good peaceful sleep and breakfast on second day was self service hot plate but still good. Wetherby is a small but pleasant town with lots of independent shops and a short walk away. The staff at this hotel are lovely and they are the saving grace here. The entire place needs a complete re-furbish, it is reasonably priced and probably best suited to business travel and conference attendees as well located for meetings. We usually stay in York 4* so did not expect huge things but have also stayed at Premier Inns which are similarly priced, much more modern and have Costa coffee. Food available for evening meals is much better than at Mercure Wetherby. Staff are fab though and deserve a better environment.

« Enjoyable »

Overall enjoyed staying at hotel and would recommend. Staff: Found all staff very helpful and nice Decor: The interior design is dated, shelf in room slanted so couldn't put anything on it. The actual shower enclosure was small and made smaller by a chair for elderly/disabled. The so called japanese jets didn't work and just a hindrance really. Food: Had breakfast and toasted sandwich both of which were fine. Were sent offers for dinner etc and was tempted but in the evening was quiet and didn't appear to be anyone eating / drinking in bar/restaurant area therefore no atmosphere so decided to eat in the village. Location: Very good, convenient for main roads and very close to Wetherby which is lovely village with pubs and places to eat. I booked one night direct with hotel as always prefer to do this if match the cost. Booked 2nd night seperately through website as cheaper. I did call hotel but they refused to match offer.

« Convenient, good quality room and service. »

We had a three night stay and have stayed there before. The room was comfortable, though too hot on the first night. This was sorted out promptly. Breakfasts were very good with a lot of choice.

« Satisfactory accommodation with friendly staff »

Nice hotel on the edge of Wetherby, although in need of modernisation. It was clean and tidy and my bed was comfortable. The accommodation was not very spacious and similar to a Premier Inn i.e. very little space to hang up your clothes and no safe to secure your valuables.

« Lovely welcome, warm rooms & very comfy nights sleep »

Met at reception by friendly helpful staff. In the evening & next day this consistent service was maintained even though receptionist had been on all night & was spoken to very rudely by an elderly guest with a complaint which wS not to do with the hotel. Room lovely & wArm with good facilities Close to wetherby

I sent you an e-mail explaining our Saturday night experience but have received no reply. Due to the fact you had a large function on we were put into the bar to eat. The noise was unbelievable and we couldn't hear ourselves speak. We were then taken into the conference room for a bit of peace and quiet but it was so empty and like being in the doctors waiting room so everyone went to thier room by 8.0 pm not much fun on a Saturday night. I have to say your staff were brilliant and seemed genuinely upset at our predicament. I was woken at about 11.00 pm by the noise your guests were making running up and down the corridors and banging doors. Then the people were n the car park shouting to each other and slamming car doors. I finally got yo sleep at around 2.00 am this was very disappointing as we had been looking forward to this weekend for a long time. The rooms were comfortable and very clean but no expelair in the bathrooms or toilet brushes this needs serious looking into. Once again I must say that Sharon and her team could not have been nicer.

« As expected. »

Once again, excellent staff efficient and friendly. The restaurant menu unchanged, all right if you like burgers! Shame you can't have a choice of steaks. I don't drink and there is no allowance made for this in the price of the steak on the menu. All the meal prices are above the hotel average for similar options elsewhere. The corridor carpets to the rooms are past their sellby date and looking it.

« Brilliant breakfasts, dire dinners »

Room (108) too hot despite turning off radiators and keeping windows open all the time. 9.5/10 for the breakfasts. The mains at dinner were inedible - overcooked meat and fish, carrots on all three nights, weird presentation with meat or fish heaped on top of uninspiring vegetables. The ‘roast’ potatoes with the grilled-to-death pork steak were inedible. We were made to feel like second-class citizens, only allowed to sit at tables with paper serviettes, and herded into the bar for dinner on Saturday night because the dining room was unavailable to us. The conference room where we had to have coffee was devoid of atmosphere.

« Good until the last night »

Clean rooms, friendly helpful staff We travelled with a coach tour staying for four days on a half board basis, the buffet breakfast was good and the evening meal was satisfactory until the last evening when we were relegated to an afterthought

« W/e stay 16/11/18 »

It’s always a pleasure to come to Mecure Wetherby & although the Hotel was extremely busy the Staff coped very well especially on the Saturday evening. Inevitably dinner that evening was difficult but thanks to Sharon (Evening Manager) she organised our meal & the Chef was first class in spite of being very busy with the tour party & the celebration tables. Our thanks to all the Staff, Management & Service Staff
