« Fine overall. A couple of issues. »

Nice hotel, large comfy room. Chest of drawers falling apart. Breakfast not replenished near closing & cleared away very sharpish!

« A tad disappointing »

Due to health conditions I required and requested a ground floor room when booking, and one near the entrance I was given a room as far away as ever possible on the 2nd floor . After mentioning this on arrival no one even offered to change the room and the response was of total disinterested. After taking the long hike to my room the key didn't work . After hiking back to reception the young lady again was totally unconcerned and more or less intimated I was making a fuss and there was nothing wrong with the key . The bathroom had no extractor fan therefore when showering the room filled with steam probably setting the alarms off regularly . The ladies toilets adjacent to the dining hall were quite dirty and the smell of foist was overwhelming. Apart from Simon the other members of staff were in helpful, and everything seemed to be an inconvenience to them, not what you expect during a stay in a hotel. Overall, over rated, over priced and disappointing.

« Alarming - 3 fire alarms within 24 hours!!! »

Saturday 8th July approx 11.00 hours. Staying in room 2001 - alarm goes off, exit room following fire escape signs down stairs and through the nearest fire exit, no signs to RVP so stood on grass outside. Female member of staff comes out of the fire doors and tells us to come back in and walk along the internal corridor to reception. Is this safe practice? Re entering a building with the alarm still sounding is not safe practice at all. After about 15 mins the alarm is silenced and staff come out and say we can go back inside - no roll-call, no explanation. Sunday 9th July approx 00.30 am, having just returned from the wedding we were attending we had just gone to bed when the alarm sounded. Left the room and went straight out of the nearest fire escape (as in the previous evacuation), followed the path round the outside of the building to reception, where guests assembled in nightwear - fortunately it was warm and not raining. Two staff in high-vis vests were going back and forth from the kitchen to reception. After about 5 mins one of the staff came out clutching a sheaf of papers and in a barely raised voice, and with no explanation, started calling out "101, 102, 103 ..." we were fairly close to him and could just about hear him over the sound of the alarm siren. People standing a short distance away had no idea he was taking a roll-call! After a few more minutes the fire brigade arrived with two appliances and entered the building. Curious guests were now coming forward closer to the staff member doing the roll call and realised that he was going through a guest list, so more confusion as people were saying "you haven't ticked us off"... "you haven't called our room number" etc. It was a shambles!! Eventually the alarm was silenced and we were allowed back into the hotel. On passing through reception I spoke to one of the brigade officers and asked if he had been made aware that the alarm had gone off earlier, on Saturday morning - he hadn't been made aware! Returned to bed at approx 01.00. Approx 03.00 alarm sounds again - get up and start getting dressed, after about 30 seconds the alarm is silenced. At this point we are in two minds as to whether to cut our losses, get in the car and drive home, or stay. We decide to stay. Get up in the morning, go down to reception - no explanation forthcoming about the alarm(s) - blank looks all round. The only positives I can muster about our stay is that the serving staff were attentive at breakfast and dinner. Had there been a serious fire in the hotel the evacuation procedures I saw were totally inadequate. Staff were obviously poorly trained and equipped to manage an evacuation.

« Enjoyed our night there »

We stayed over for one night. Hotel is in a great location for access to surrounding area's/motorways. Easy walk into Wetherby Village. Staff were very friendly and helpful, especially the night manager who allowed us to have a late drink in the lounge,, even though the bar had closed. The bedroom was nice overall, lovely and clean, modern fit out. The bathroom was a little tired and in need of some modernisation, but was clean.

« Helpful staff »

After a problem in the first room we were allocated, the Duty- manager was very helpful and immediately moved us into a second room. We found that both rooms were in need of renovation, but the bed was really comfortable and the bedlinen perfectly clean. We were assured that a renovation is planned for these rooms, so would stay again if in the area. The hotel is in a good position, near the M1, and on the edge of the town, with plenty of car-parking space, It was ideal for getting into York, which was our reason for the visit.

« Great stay over for wedding »

Fantastic stay at The Mercure Wetherby, from check-in which was a breeze thanks to Salli, to check-out. Room was very bright and comfortable, the breakfast was really good (all you can eat buffet withy quality sausages must have been from a local farmer). Graeme on the night shift was a really good host serving drinks and sandwiches until late, and Ciara at breakfast was really pleasant and fun and made sure we had everything we required. All in all a very good stay and I would recommend the hotel to anyone looking for a short stay in lovely Wetherby.

« Lovely hotel »

Really happy with our room, clean and spacious, loved the extras that you don't normally get with this price of room. Trouser press, iron, hairdryer, tea and coffee making with plenty of sachets and shampoo, shower gel, and the large bed was really comfortable. The view from the window really good with rabbits running around on the front lawn (lovely). Really nicely situated hotel with just a short stroll to the very beautiful Wetherby. The hotel restaurant was really nice and evening meal was very good, also breakfast was lovely with plenty of selection. If we were ever in this region again we wouldn't hestitate to stay in this lovely hotel.

Tried to check in and system said our room was cancelled. Had the booking confirmation live on the booking.com app And was definitely not cancelled. Hotel was fully booked apparently, still got a room but a twin not a double which was annoying

« Rooms in need of refurbishment »

The hotel is in a great position, nice friendly staff and the breakfast was very good. However, the room was disappointing. The bathroom in particular was very grubby and in desperate need of refurbishment.

We have stayed at the hotel several times and find the hotel dated but the Executive rooms are comfortable. We did not feel that we were made welcome although the bar staff were friendly.

The hotel was convenient to the local town Wetherby. Room was small, with twin beds, peeling paint on pipes in bathroom.

I enjoyed my experience here. I checked in on Friday 23rd June for 2 nights. Although I gave my card details at the time of booking I was also charged on my departure thus 2 payments of £210 being taken from my account which caused difficulties for me. I rang the hotel but was told this could take 5 working days to go back into my account.
