We have stayed at this hotel many times before .We have relatives in this area .We always find staff to be very friendly and helpful. I think the position of the hotel is perfect .Just a short stroll from the main little market town .We wouldn't use any other hotel when we are in this part of the world .

« Basic travel stop »

A basic travel-stop on the A1...Tiny room, and poor housekeeping. The tiled shower cubicle was thick with soap residue which stained the grouting and collected in the corners. When I showed the cleaner she was straight at it but only had a spray of diluted bleach and a cloth so she was struggling. The reception and bar staff were cheerful and helpful and deserve more support.

The location was good for us but the room smelled dreadfully of damp and the shower has obviously leaked for some time. The shower never got hot, and neither of us fancied a cold shower. Breakfast was great.

For heating to be turned on the thermostatic valve on the radiators in each room needs to be open. In your room the thermostat must have been off when you arrived which is why the room was cold. It is hard to judge whether we should leave them on or off now with it being warm during the day and dropping suddenly cold at night. I will ask the housekeeping supervisors to leave all on setting one or two to keep the room comfortable in both instances. I will feedback that you found the variety at breakfast limited to the head chef and see if we can add more items to the breakfast buffet to widen this. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will soon give us the opportunity to serve you to the usual high standards we expect. I am sorry that your experience was less than satisfactory; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. All bedrooms are inspected daily by our housekeeping team, so it is surprising that the issues you have raised were overlooked. The towels are all replaced when the room is serviced before you arrive and are supplied by an outside linen company. I will enquire with the housekeeping team as to whether other towels we are being supplied with have stains on them. I will also ensure the housekeeping supervisors are inspecting bedrooms thoroughly to prevent problems like the ones you have raised from being missed in the future. Regarding the breakfast, I will take the issues you have highlighted back to the chef who was on duty. Normally when making special requests this is done to the food and beverage team and relayed to the chefs in the kitchen which is why they may have been surprised! I will ask them to take these requests in future as well. Room - a bit dated, but clean and pleasant enough. Breakfast - very disappointed. My wife had to request veggie sausages, which took an age to arrive, and when she enquired as to whether you use free range eggs, eventually was told no (and that's despite Accor's promise to use entirely free range in the near future) Communications - we called to say that my wife left behind a necklace and we were promised a phonecall back once the reception staff had spoken to the cleaner. Nearly a week later and we are still waiting for the call. I also tweeted to the hotel about the free range eggs and not even had an acknowledgement. I stay in Accor hotels most weeks and this is easily the worst all round experience.

This hotel I easy to access from the motorway, and although the new parking arrangements make me a bit nervous we have not had any problems thus far. Very nice room, comfortable bed and good dining area. Cooked breakfast is particularly good.

Room 129: In general the room needed refurbishment. The Sink was badly cracked, and it is totally unacceptable to have bed linen with holes in. Breakfast: £11 is expensive for a buffet breakfast, but to have no butter, only have 'sunflower spread'. Again, not what one would expect from any hotel. Evening meal: a 'blue burger' which took an excessive amount of time to arrive. A very small amount of blue cheese, the toasted bun was burned in place. On a scale of 1 to 10, putting McDonalds as a 5, I would rate the Mercure Blue Burger as a 3. The one redeeming factor about the place was the staff, who were polite, pleasant and helpful. .
