All staff were amazing, and the rooms were fine, but the heat in the rooms was ridiculous. It was soo warm, we were able to get 2 fans for the room, but it was still crazy hot

Comfortable and clean hotel. Staff for very friendly. Restaurant totally useless - unable to cope with more then a few guests. Weekend breakfast start of 8am is ridiculous ly late, particularly for those travelling.

Check in at the hotel was excellent. The person on reception was very informative and welcoming. The room was clean. However, the toilet was difficult to flush and the water pressure of the shower was temperamental. Service at the bar during early evening was good. However, when returning to the ar on return to order food the service was very unwelcoming. I was informed that pizzas were available to order, which is fair enough for 11pm. However, he would not accept card unless it was verified at reception and he would not take cash either. I felt that there were deliberate obstacles in place to stop my order being taken so I decided not to bother. We went down for breakfast in the morning. We waited to be greeted and allocated a seat as per most hotels. A person was cleaning a table. She looked at us and then looked away without acknowledging us and carried on cleaning the table. We waited for 2 minutes and then approached her directly to ask if we sit anywhere. I feel that the customer service was below standard. The tomatoes were burnt too.

Reception staff very helpful, room good and bed comfortable. Breakfast very unorganised, had to wait 5 minutes before sausage brought out then no eggs another 5 minutes wait, staff more interested in room numbers and clearing tables rather than making sure enough food out for self service. The kitchen staff must have known how many guests were booked in for breakfast!

The reception staff were brilliant always helpfully , morning and afternoon staff serving food were good, the full week i was there the dinner staff werent good , always stood with their faces like they wanted to be somewhere else , staff member rolled her eyes when someone asked her for sauce and there body language as a whole was like they could not be bothered being there . The house keeping where good at keeping room clean but we had to keep asking for more towels everyday as they only put 2 towels in when there were 3 people in the room staying

Tired Hotel, poor service

Stayed just one night on a business trip with a colleague. The hotel seems quite worn out, a bit run down and grubby in places. We wanted something to eat in the bar after a long day but there wasn't any room or organisation to sort out the guests. Nobody seemed interesting. Breakfast reminded me of an old factory canteen......

Not a very relaxing and pleasant stay

Check - In :- Good, efficient (no problems) "Lobby" bar was not staffed - Was left waiting for 20mins before complaining to receptionist who was busy checking in a coach party. Bedroom - fine, comfortable bed (no Mecure literature regarding hotel facilities ,breakfast etc) Bathroom - Poor - Hand basin - cracked (although not leaking - photo's available if necessary), Shower - very poor system and seemed insufficient pressure to deliver adequate water jet. Evening 30th Anniversary celebrations (Mr & Mrs David Bailey) - Very good, Food good and bar service good (even though bar prices a little on the high side). Breakfast :- A complete shambles !! Insufficiently staffed, tables and associated self services areas not cleared, tidied and replenished. Food ( sausages ) incorrectly prepared (cooked on outside but raw on inside) presented to customers for eating - HUGE risk to health - food poisoning potential !!!!

Breakfast is supposed to start at 6.30am. on Friday 21st at 6.50 the hot food was not ready and I could not have a boiled egg ' because we are late and have to get the hot food out'

Room was adequate for a disabled traveller but had to change rooms as internal door in corridor banged shut all night. Pool had a unnecessary loud radio spoiling the experience so unable to use for more than ten minutes. Food was very expensive but was warned about this by taxi driver on arrival. Would not stay again.

I only stayed there because the Worsley Novotel was fully booked. For an “inferior” brand, the Novotel is tonnes better, but it’s always been an Accor hotel. I’ve stayed in other Mercure hotels, which haven’t always been Accor hotels, and they’ve all been better. People visiting Bolton shouldn’t have to put up with second best. The hotel is showing it's age, especially the room, which had a 90s feel to it with decor and bath fittings. Very like the Holiday Inn in Bolton. In the evening, the restaurant had been closed due to a low number of guests, so people were forced to eat in the bar. There weren’t enough tables and chairs, so I was forced to perch by a pillar. So uncomfortable and definitely uncomfortable and diminished my experience, but it was raining outside. I thought about taking it to my room, but I didn’t want to. Breakfast was average. Another room from the 90’s. I’ve been going there since the 80s when it was the place to go, but I was disappointed with this visit.

Poor food options, old decor, rubbish customer service

I stayed here for a 4 day course recently. There were so many issues we wondered if it was a test as part of the training. To begin the food although tasted really nice, was limited in options, late and cross contaminated - At lunch there was one option for meat eaters and one for Vegetarians. One day, there were no options at all for vegetarians so they made me a salad in the kitchen - there was so much lettuce and tomatoes (turned out to be a sharing salad) that unfortunately there was loads of wastage, after I left they brought out a vegan pasta dish! There was also beer battered fish for lunch one day and no options for people who don't want alcohol in their food. Furthermore, one morning there was bacon underneath the fried eggs!! Shocking!! When we attempted to complain, one of the staff was consistently rude to a colleague of mine (telling us there's only one of her), we also heard her complain to the reception staff as well as the kitchen staff/chef - one of which responded to say "he's a d***". All the other staff were really nice and pleasant throughout. Truly atrocious behavior. Furthermore, the conference facilities leaked, there was no water or milk a lot of the times either. The rooms were fine but very outdated and the radiator knocked all night waking me up one of the nights. The reception staff only had 1 person on one of the mornings manning the desk which caused a huge queue. All in all it seemed like staff wanted to help but were limited in effectiveness due to resource and food although tasted nice - left a bitter taste!

Most of staff were good, staff at breakfast were standoffish and never even said good morning!! Food in the Bistro Bar area was the worst I have had in a hotel over cooked starter and a pasta sauce to main course that was no better than a tomato flavoured water.

The Hotel is perfectly adequate for the price at only £69 per night including breakfast. Bar and public area's a bit sparse, plain and simple but again adequate , Bedrooms a bit tired and in need of redecoration . Paint peeling off the wall and off the skirting in the bathroom. However the bed was large and comfortable and the room clean. As mentioned Ok for the price as paid.

The room was tatty and unclean plus had adjoining door to next room which we heard being opened and tried in the night. Tried order room pizza to be told had to put £30 on my debit card to secure payment so we didn't bother. Stayed at alot nicer hotels for less money as we paid £108 for room only. Lack of staff at night on the bar so didn't bother as people were queuing for drinks. Sorry it negative review just truthful

Quite expensive for a hotel that is in need of some refurbishment

The staff were friendly but a lot of the corridors smelled quite stale. The room was clean but very dated and in need of a good refurbishment. The food was nice although there was a long wait for dinner. The breakfast room was very untidy and there didn't seem to be enough staff to clear/clean the tables.
