« Excellent staff, very accommodating. »

We stayed at he hotel for 11 nights. We got to know the daytime and the night time staff, the restaurant staff, the bar staff, the wedding planner manager, and I can sy without a doubt that every single person was extremely friendly and helpful. The room we stayed in was small, but sufficient. The hotel is a little older, but great location close to my family, with a fabulous view of Rivington Pike hills.

Room was dated. Toilet took a few attempts to flush and had to be left for a while if just used. The shower was poor. It was basically a trickle of water and the trickle was scorching hot. The room was really hot so we really needed a shower next morning but had to wait until home. I felt for £95 it was not worth the money. On the positive side the Staff were very pleasant and beds were comfy. Breakfast ok too. M

« Room too hot! »

Stayed one night as we had an event to go to the One bar/restaurant, so in easy walking distance. The room was very dated and in need of updating. It was also very hot, the heat hit it you as soon as you opened the door. We ate the bar the food was very good.

« A let down on the usual Mercure quality & standards »

Apart from the complementary cleaning products in the bathroom being dirty - the most disappointing was the food - Your chicken Tikka was a 'pepper and onion tikka', as there was no chicken (was very much looked forward to, as the Mercure usually do this well) - the manager was informed - surpassed by a worse breakfast - the bacon in particular was literally inedible and the rest was only marginally better. 4 of us ate, dinner and breakfast, spending as much on food as accommodation - a real let down on the Mercure name - Our 2 nights in York Mercure following, was what we expected - Do some mystery shopper visits - @ Bolton then maybe York - see the difference

« A good stay with a few niggling points »

The check in experience was swift and pleasant. However, I had to prompt about a welcome drink with silver membership. I stayed in a privilege room that was very clean and everything was in working order. A little fridge in the room would have encouraged me to increase the rating to 9 out of 10. The bar experience was very good with excellent customer service. Later in the evening I ordered pizza to the room with a soft drink as part of a promotion for £13. However, when checking out I discovered that it was priced at £20.80. Although this was rectified swiftly; errors in billing takes away customer trust.

« Preparation for wedding »

Once there experience was good. Breakfast was good, the staff were all helpful and thoughtful as there was several parties of us and children so may have Been lively. The booking process was not easy, rooms had been provisionally booked as rooms for the bride who was to get married. There was no proper confirmation sent, I did email the hotel on several occasions to ensure the rooms were booked even contacted the hotel beginning of May to ensure rooms were booked caused stress. Some of the party did encounter problems when booking in as rooms not available but were found alternative rooms but this should not of occurred even the bride room was not as booked but to be given 2 rooms adjoining worked out well in the end. I felt lucky my rooms were all as requested, but were hot so sleep was not easy.

« A Trip Cut Short »

Firstly our room (217) was extremely hot and not having air conditioning we were unable to cool it down even with the window open. A desktop fan was supplied but this made little or no difference. Secondly, our visit was arranged via a Daily Mail Offer which appeared to be good value for money, offering two nights B&B and Dinner on the first evening. It wasn't until we sat down in the restaurant that we were told that we were allowed £22 per head and anything from the menu above that limit would be charged to our room. Not a problem but it would have been nice to know the rules at the point of booking. Sleeping was problematical due to the high temperature in our room but the following day we went out visiting and left the room window open and the curtains closed to prevent the sun beaming through in the hope that the room would cool during the day. On our return in the late afternoon the room temperature was still very high. At about 7:30 that evening we decided we had had enough and checked out (a day early). The staff were very kind and offered us another room but it was too late, we had packed our bags and decided to leave. Our two day break had turned into a bit of a disaster.

« Not up to expectations for the price »

Basin in bathroom was cracked. No flannel provided in the basin. We asked for more tea bags instead of coffee but our request was ignored. Prices for eating in the hotel were very expensive so we ate at another hotel at a quarter of the price. The weather was very hot and sunny during our stay but there was nowhere to sit outside at the back of the hotel where the sun was for most of the day except in the car park in our car. There seemed to be a general lack of interest in guest welfare and certainly nobody asked if everything was alright.

Reasonable facilities and friendly staff but terrible restaurant service as food for one took over 45 min to come despite almost no one else being in the restaurant. Swimming pool was nice but not huge (as shown in photos) and the room was as expected.
