« Met expectations »

Met expectations. Room, particularly bathroom a bit "tired". Food and staff were good.

« Normal »

Housekeeping is still poor. The telephone handset by the bed is still out of service. My tea mug from Tuesday night was left unwashed. Used shampoo and shower gel containers were left by the side of the bath. The clothes drying line is broken. The fan in the bathroom doesn't function . Room 781.

« Nobody listens to me »

Hotel ok. Reception staff shocking. I check out at 5am. The chap couldn't print my invoice. I have requested a VAT invoice 5 times now, 3 times have been sent invoicd that says "this is not a VAT invoice." Now nobody will reply to me. I am a hold loyalty club member and always use Accor group. Now will look else where due to 1 bad experience .

« A bit bizarre....but we do love the staff here »

We regularly use this hotel and the staff are great. However out last stay was a little odd. There were 2 dogs in the room next to us. Most days we couldn't hear them unless we were in the corridor. On our last day they were positively howling. We had to report them to reception. We know there was a man staying in the room with the dogs but their howling was concerning. It was either speak to reception or call the RSPCA. Our first night using the pool was also odd. A young local child was using the swimming pool to sail his remote controlled boat. He complained to me that my children splashing would damage his boat. I politely laughed and pointed out that it was a swimming pool and perhaps he should move to the other side of the pool. He put the boat to one side and joined my children in the pool. There was no adult with this child. He was approx 8/9 years of age. I wasn't too happy as it is an unlifeguarded pool. Later an older man entered the pool and spoke with the child about the boat the boy explained what I had said. I then had the most filthiest of looks. Surely children, local or guests, should not be unsupervised in a pool. Nor should we be made to feel responsible for them. There was also a real problem with the key cards. Everyday we had to go to reception to get them to work. Other rooms were experiencing the same problem. The staff were excellent as always. Especially the breakfast staff. Thanks must also go to the kitchen for a perfect breakfast.

Disappointing - We travelled some 250 miles only to find two tea bags and no Biscuits. These may appear minor and they are but for something that would cost less than £1, the welcome that we felt was something that was very underwhelming especially for £102 per night.

« A mixed bag »

Comfortable room, but tired bathroom with stained floor. Not the usual Mercure standard. No lounge area and bar area only had refectory/café style tables: no comfy seats. Draught beer ran out on a weekend. Staff helpful and readily resolved a few issues. The 2424 service unobtainable as the mobile used by the hotel did not connect in all areas of the hotel. Dining room a bit bland with tin foil covering food on server, with eggs swimming in oil (why not use a holed s/s plate). The one coffee dispensing machine , which also provided hot water for tea, could not cope with more than 4 people on the run; its internal instant water boiler clearly too small.

« Nice bedding but everything else quite tired »

Stayed here last minute for a nearby function. The facilities are tired and In need of a refurbishment and the staff were not around anywhere which was frustrating. Nice bedding though.

I was very satisfied with my room, the breakfast and the hotel in general. I had booked a priveledge room and pre-paid for breakfast for two days. No newspaper on the first morning. I was not on the guest list in the restaurant for brdakfast on the first morning. On the day of departure, the server was down and I didn't have my booking with me and had to pay a further £22 for breakfast. I am still awaiting a refund.

« Room great, food very good just let down by the facilities »

Couldn’t fault the room and the food, it was the facilities that really let the place down. Choose the hotel purposely for the spa facilities but they were out of order for maintenance. Couldn’t use the swimming pool in peace due to the swimming lessons going on so jet left us really disappointed.

« Good basic accommodation »

Basic room which does the job. Shower is a little tricky to use think it needs a new cartridge. Didn't know the breakfast was an extra £11. Is it worth £11? No. Dried up food and second day no scramble eggs and the fried eggs looked a little overdone. Reception staff very friendly and helpful. It was noted that I woke up on the second morning with insect bites?? To the backs of my knees.

« Pleasant stay in a convenient location »

The staff were pleasant and helpful and assisted me in everything that I required. The evening food was enjoyable and came out in a timely fashion. Unfortunately on this occasion the breakfast buffet selection was a little bit sad from being left under the heat lamps and the fruit had a large amount of inedible pieces in the serving bowls.

Didn't have a good experience at all. Staff member in the Sports bar shouting at us across the room and staff member threw the bill and pen down on the table at meal all over me asking for clean cutlery as the waiter put it down on the table by handling the prongs of the fork and blade of the knife

We found the staff helpful & friendly . We were disappointed with how the building had been maintained since our stay several years ago. Cut backs were noticeable. We had one large towel between us. The sink in our room had a large crack in it as did a number of the tiles. The swimming pool area had deteriorated. There was evidence of corrosion in the metal work. We couldn't work the jacuzzi . There were no instructions. There were signs of deterioration there. We did enjoy our breakfasts with plenty of choices. Small packets of biscuits in the room would have been a nice touch. So would free snacks ( crisps or nuts) in the bar. I just feel little gestures like that make guests feel more special & more likely to return.

« Poor bathroom »

Suite fresh & clean, apart from what looked like paint marks on carpet. Bed firm but comfortable. Bathroom very much in need of updating. The toilet flusher had to be pumped in order for it to work; my husband had to do this for me as I just could not get it to work. Toilet & bath were very old, pale pink like from 70s! Good choice at breakfast but quite a number of flies in the dated dining room. If I had visited here to check the place first, I don't think we would have stayed there, least of allon our wedding night!

« Fabulous, as usual. »

Excellent room, spotless, breakfast was included this time and that was really great. Very professional and friendly reception staff, a credit to the hotel and that's not easy when you're having to deal with an IT system that wasn't co-operating with the clock change.

« 1st Anniversary to Forget »

We was due a first anniversary meal in accordance with our contract when we got married at Mercure Bolton Georgian House, so my wife paid for the room we spent our wedding night in so we could have a meal and stay the night. We arrived to find out we had been moved rooms and later on that night while having a drink in the bar, we was informed the hotel restaurant was shut and locked even though we was booked in for 7pm.
