« Great hotel, super staff but guests need to be informed the it’s also a wedding venue with live bands playing! »

The hotel is beautiful and the staff were amazing, unfortunately it’s also a wedding venue, which we were unaware of. 2 weddings and one with a live band playing meant the noise was totally unacceptable, I’m all for people having a nice time but it should not impact on other guests enjoyment of the facilities, sadly music blasting out and thumping through into our room made our stay very unpleasant. I am not one to complain but in this instance I had no choice and 3 days later I still await a response to my email. Very disappointing.

From our first visit to the bar, where just about everything we asked for was not available, to the bedroom which was lacking in air conditioning and sensibly located plug sockets, to the spa which was tired and grubby, this hotel disappointed at every turn.

« Nice hotel good breakfast »

Very positive liked the room. Areas for improvement .. some pre chilling / ice for the fruit juices to sit on would be nice as they were not very cold. Your white bread is terrible ... I’m ok with processed white loaf but is like you picked the very lowest quality you could find. A crusty option with a knife / bread board would not have you up a scale too. The staff are all very friendly and check in check out super efficient

This was our wedding day and the staff namely Sue Thornley, Tamar and Nadine where great. Sue because she did everything we asked for nothing was to much trouble, Tamar was exceptional when it came to the food and Nadine for going though everything on the day.

Rooms were very small, very warm due to not having air conditioning. We were moved from a family room to two twin rooms which should have been next each other - when in fact on checkout they were down the corridor. I had to ring 6 times in order to get the correct price for the room - each time different people didn’t seem to understand about the event discount price. Disappointing stay as we come twice a year with work and have never experienced these issues before.

« We were happy with our accommodation in the refurbished part of the building as opposed to the sub standard room allocated when we initially checked into »

Initially when we checked in I handed Ashley the required Red Letter Evoucher which he didn’t accept and then asked us for payment details once I explained the Red Letter package details he gave us the room key card 32 I was disappointed the room is ugly and has an aged musty smell that lingered even when we opened the window left and returned after using the leisure facilities I told Ashley that I wasn’t happy with room 32 and he apologised and allocated room 779 in the refurbished part of the hotel. This room was the standard I expected to get from a Mecure hotel and we were happy with it.Moving on apparently Ashley had forgotten to apply the Red Letter info on room 779 and after our meal we were asked to pay for it. It only took a few minutes to sort it out and pay for just the drinks. That’s it really. Checking out we were asked for the evoucher handed it in and carried on our journey to The Lake District bliss!

« Great effort no cigar »

Fruit flies everywhere... evening meal felt more like sitting down in Burger King undervalued by inattentive well meaning staff, lighting, mood, music ... non existent. When your selling £24 steaks the surroundings should match. It was sweltering hot... maybe fans in room as standard as there is no air con.

« Dated hotel in need of refurbishment »

On arrival I was presented with a key which wouldn’t unlock the bedroom door. I then had to go back down to reception with all my belongings (I am 5 months pregnant) only to be told the key was fine and I had to pull on the door. I had to use all of my weight against it to get it to open. On day 2 the door didn’t open at all, hence yet another trip down to reception. In the room the large mirror in the bathroom had a huge crack across the face of it, the paint was peeling off the bathroom ceiling and the facilities were about 20 years out of date ( not to mention the hair in the bath plug hole). The breakfast was not appealing at all- dried up cooked breakfast which looked as though it has been cooked the night before (I arrived at 7.15am) and a member of staff being really rude to a customer. I didn’t bother with breakfast on day 2.

We went for a wedding and the reception room was lovely. Our bedroom was different. the sink was cracked. the shower sprayed water sideways from where the head connected, two cups and one had a very noticeable chip, the kettle leaked, when you opened the wardrobe the drawer underneath opened as the door had dropped then it was hard to close the wardrobe, the cushion and the runner on the bed both had marks, the bed was very big and comfy but the pillows were hard and lumpy and the door to the room had obviously been painted while closed as when it was opened you could see the border of the old paint.

Staying for a wedding on the premises. Hotel requires a bit of a re-vamp, some areas a little shabby. Staff did not seem very experienced other than reception who were excellent. Waiting staff for the wedding lunch were not sure what the meal was or how to serve. Bar service very sketchy, again inexperienced. Beer, particularly Boddingtons, was never available at the same bar twice! Aside from all that, the hotel was clean and facilities as expected.
