« Performed the basics »

Very helpful staff, particularly reception. A good breakfast both mornings although found it interesting guessing what was under the foil The bed was very comfortable. Downside. The bathroom is desperate for an upgrade considering the price band and that we also stayed in one of your suites.

I stayed in a room with a none working phone & a very bad leaking tolet when it rained. That alone had me up all night with the sound of running water & arriving late due to traffic was not good thing. The room service experience was bad as I ordered just a ham sandwich and was told to expect it in 10/15 mins I had to go down to the reception 30 mins latter as I had no phone in the room remember. And the flys in all areas from the restaurant to bed rooms got on my nerves I was told by different staff Differing story's of the said flys from farmers spreading muck to not had them before . To the above.. I did not pay for the first night.. 2nd night I was moved to another room & I was not going to pay for a sandwich that had to much salt on it witch made me feel ill after only three bites of it. Good points.. beds were comfy rooms clean. Above is the reason for only 5 stars.

When we arrived, we were given a twin room, despite booking a double. We returned to the reception, with all our bags, from the room which was right at the back of the hotel. We were then given the keys to a room which was already occupied by someone else. We again returned to reception from the very back of the hotel. When given the 3rd set of keys, we went back to the same area but the 3rd room was in a completely different part of the hotel, so we again returned to reception, who this time sent us in the right direction. The reception staff were polite and helpful throughout, and gave us a complimentary drink, but it was not a good checking in experience.

« Expensive and poor quality »

The room was adequate but very expensive. Bathroom facilities were dated and of very poor quality. No thermostat control for rooms. Very cold. Poor quality breakfast.

« Satisfactory »

Check in there was a mistake on the online application that meant that my profile was not found. However the helpful receptionist offered to sort this out and make sure my points were added. The room on the top floor was a bit small but perfectly comfortable. Shower was a bit feeble but adequate. Breakfast was very good Evening meal bar food was disappointing. Haddock chips and peas. Both the fish and the chips were greasy and not very pleasant. My impression was that they were fried for too long at too low a temperature. I used to be really impressed with your bar food but have been disappointed on the last two stays.

« Adequate for business but same shortcomings »

Good Gym and pool Facilities, quiet hotel, room cost reasonable, very comfortable beds. Decent WiFi. Staff friendly. Negatives- Appears not enough staff, dirty beer glass left by lift on second floor for whole 15 hours I was there. Food and drinks expensive for the area. Leaking ceilings and generally tired building. Finally shower very lame and poor. During my stay flys all over hotel. Told by staff member happens when farmers disturb nearby fields.

« Two Night Stayer »

Lovely staff. Nice room. Could do with a little revamping. Maybe buy an insectocutor? Quite a few flies hanging around breakfast. Easily fixed. Nicely sized room. Bit misleading that the rooms are not in the Georgian part. Good facilities for a three star.

Although the hotel is a little tired in places we stayed here with a large party from the midlands for my daughters wedding as having been once before we know the hotel is impeccably clean and more importantly the staff are amazing, warm and helpful .very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. Thank you.x

« Decent Comfortable hotel »

Booked 4 rooms for my family for a wedding near Bolton. Rooms were OK and beds comfortable. Only criticism is rooms were a little warm, however no heating on so must have been due to muggy weather. Would stay here again.

« Not good »

The room was small and shabby. The whole hotel could do with renovation. It was extremely warm inside the room and whole hotel, but leaving the window open meant being subjected to the loud traffic from the main road all night long. The bar was very expensive and breakfast was underwhelming for the price - although it was all you can eat, none of it was cooked fresh, which you even get at some budget hotels these days. Customer service from both the bar and reception staff was dreadful - we were ignored at times at the bar and on check-in, the reception staff offered no information about the hotel/facilities, we had to ask about everything. I've stayed in a bunch of Accor hotels in various countries and this didn't seem like a Mercure at all. Very disappointing.

« Great service, dated rooms »

Reception staff were fantastic. Bar food service incredibly slow and overpriced. Bathroom was dated and the shower rail was hanging off the wall.

« Needs renovating completely »

Price was good but I wish we'd paid more to go somewhere else, the pool area is shockingly bad especially the so called 'family changing room' it was dirty, so couldn't stand in the floor in bare feet or sit on the filthy chair! The tiles were coming off around the pool, the man on duty was completely uninterested and disorganised and there was stuff everywhere! There were flys all over the cooked breakfast which put me off eating it. The room itself wasn't bad the bathroom needs tipping out and redoing but the bed was comfy enough. Would have preferred better quality duvet and pillow for a mercure hotel. So no I wouldn't go back

« Just a couple of problems »

Room good. Bathroom floor could have done with some cleaning solution on it and polish wouldn't have gone a miss! Dinner first night. We were given a menu and a table d'hote menu. We chose off the tdh as I wanted fish. 10 mins after taking our order the waiter (who was lovely and very embarrassed)said no tdh tonight. So had to choose again. No plain fish fish. Breakfast next morning. I had enjoyed the pain au chocolat the first morning and was looking forward to them again as I don't like a cooked breakfast. There were none out. All had been eaten but when I asked the waitress she said she would check. Never came back so I searched her out and she told me yes there were some and they'd just gone in the oven. Great I thought but they never appeared!!!! So sad cos we had a lovely stay otherwise

« It served the purpose. A bed for 2 nights »

We stayed for 2 nights whilst attending a friends wedding. The reception, bar staff and breakfast staff where very good. Our room was very dated especially the bathroom. The breakfast room is in desperate need of a refurb. The wallpaper was awful. On our second day at breakfast there was water coming through the ceiling. The hotel needs some desperate modernising for what you pay to stay there.

« Dissatisfied how a complaint was handled after returning home »

Room flooded when rain came through bathroom flooding it at 3 a.m. when option to change rooms is not easy. After driving 7 and a half hours to get to your hotel a good night sleep was essential. Manageress promised 50% discount, but did not fulfill this only refunding £21. After 4 emails, plus this survey no one has got back to me with the remainder of my promised refund. Will not be recommending anyone to your hotel based on this after sales customer experience - dreadfully disappointed customer!

« Tired »

Disappointing even thoigh I've stayed before. We had a privileged room and the only difference was a nespresso and a robe ... really not worth all the extra money!!... the bed was small, the room cold and VERY scruffy and dirty. My parents were in a classic room which was nicer than ours. We had no siap in the room so rang for some... it never arrived .. I had to go get some myself. However, breakfast was good and breakfast and bar staff were nice.
