We were staying at the hotel on the 5th to the 6th January and there were 6 of us staying. We came back from dinner around 9.30pm to have drinks in the bar area. Although the cocktail menu was on the bar, we were told by a very unfriendly, unsmiling rather surly barman that cocktails were not available. When we questioned this we were told it was because the barman had not 'been showed' how to do them. This is not acceptable, you are running a full bar, you display a cocktail menu on the bar - then please take the time to train your staff on how to make cocktails. We left your bar and found a lovely bar close by where there were trained staff able to make decent cocktails and we stayed a few hours and spent around £190 on cocktails and drinks. The 6 of us were meeting up after 25 years so it was a very special occasion and we decided to stay in your hotel which we remembered from attending balls there in the early 90's while at University. Due to our poor experience from your bar staff I would choose to stay elsewhere if visiting Leicester again.

Cold Room. Person on check out with terrible attitude. Simply rude. A chaotic fire alarm at approx. 8.30am with staff clearly inadequately trained. Some guests evacuated and others left to check out. Guest safety compromised .

My experience at this hotel was very lovely and it was a beautiful hotel with kind, chatty staff and in the middle of city town close to lovely restaurants and bars. We came here for my boyfriends 21st birthday so I wanted to pick the best hotel in Leicester during our stay. however, when I booked this hotel I asked if it was possible to do something nice to the room for my boyfriend and they said they will offer a complimentary drink and put balloons in the rooms for us, I went in the room and nothing was in there, no balloons, nothing. I was quite disappointed as I wanted to be special for him. But they made it up by giving up free drinks and a cocktail making experience. Overall lovely hotel, clean, smart and lovely staff. Thankyou we will stay again.

Very impressive building entrance with a professional and friendly welcome. Well maintained facilities, clean throughout. My room was impressively sized for the price. The room was also silent - I was prepared to be able to hear traffic and the hubbub of a city, but was impressed at just how quiet it was. Maybe I was in a good room for that, perhaps, but still credit where it is due. Smooth check-out with my receipt ready prepared. All round, a great stay and will be my first choice when returning to Leicester.

Location good, Bar ok, rooms need seriously updating. We stayed in a superior room, only to find that the bathroom floor was cracked in several places, the shower was tired and tatty.

Staff were lovely and welcoming and the food in the restaurant was good. However the rooms were very noisy and I didn’t get a lot of sleep because of this. Seemed to be noise from outside as well as people in the corridor.

We stayed here a year ago and had to change rooms because of noise.This year the problems were multiple.The room (505) was cold. One radiator did not work, the other was inadequate to heat the space and the supplementary heating supplied was not up to the job. There is no heating in the bathroom though a previous occupant had clearly found a solution as the towel cupboard had an empty vodka bottle in it.There were sticky coffee stains on the furniture and odd hair grips left around the room.The lavatory did not empty sufficiently quickly leaving its contents swilling round and it took far too long to refill the cistern. We're lucky to be under 5'7" as the clearance room between seat and wall was minimal for us.The room suffered from too much external noise. Nothing the hotel could do about that, but it kept me awake until 4am.The shower either alternately refused to work or poured out scalding hot water.The duty manager was conciliatory but nothing could be done. We were allowed to use the bathroom in a different room.

Staff members attentive. The room was clean. The location of the tea making equipment was bafflingly. A better place for it would have been on the desk near the wardrobe. Why no bedside table beside the bed on the window side of the bed? Furniture has seen better days.

I travel a lot! Normally in Swisshotels where possible, I thought I would give the grand a chance! Worst choice ever, I know it’s not 5star but at least have the room set for 2 (as booked) at least it be warm, at least it not be over a busy drinking street (when you had other rooms) and a mould smell is not attractive either. Also hidden car parking fee not mentioned on web or at booking!
