The lobby area of the hotel and breakfast is fine , but the bedrooms leave a lot to be desired - certainly not of Mercure standards worldwide

« A nice stay at a relaxed and friendly hotel »

We stayed three nights, and though I at start was a bit worried over having the window overlooking Granby Street, we did sleep very well. We had some trouble with deactivated keycards, having to activate new ones a couple of times. The staff was very forthcoming though, so it wasn't much of a problem. Also, the cleaning staff left us with one towel missing the last day. Otherwise we were very happy with our stay.

« Great staff and good experience of verall »

We had a very nice stay at the hotel. There was a slight problem with the radiator not working in our room, however this was fixed by David who didn't give up with getting it working for us! The room was then nice and toasty. Very comfy bed and decent TV. The reception staff were also very friendly and helpful. I would recommend this hotel.

« Frustrating experience »

My first impression of your hotel when I checked in was great. It wasn’t until later on in the evening that my experience got worse. I had to ring down to reception and ask for the heating to be turned on because it was absolutely freezing in my room. I think what made it worse was it felt like a gale force wind was coming through the bathroom window. I had to shut the bathroom door. I think rang down to room service and asked for a house salad and instead I got a Caesar salad. When It arrived , it had fish in it, instead of chicken. I checked the menu it didn’t say anything about fish being part of the Caesar salad. I rang down and complained and your colleague said they would remove my meal from the bill.

-On a very noisy street and i could not sleep - toilet door lock wasnt workin - old painted door, hole in the ceiling. Rusy radiator - no fridge or mini bar - i found the receptionist difficult to interpret.

Quick check in, lovely public areas to hotel but room was small and needed cleaning. Arrived to find “present” in toilet and room dusty with cobwebs.

« Needs an update »

Initially the single receptionist at the desk took a sigh seeing several guests lining up to be served. My first observations of the room (#320) were ok. However the number of steps or split level design was odd only then to find I couldn't even take a shower. The height of the shower head was at my forehead! How could this ever have passed quality assurance?? There was no power socket near the bed. Did the design team think this through? I was periodically woken up by the sound of water falling on the ground from a height outside. Bed was comfortable and breakfast was adequate. I ended up leaving the hotel without taking a shower. I will never book a room at this hotel or even another mercure branded venue. I'd have got better experience at Premier Inn next door.

« Great location, pleasant stay »

Overall this was a nice hotel in a good location. Breakfast was good. The only problem we had was the room was far too hot and we couldn’t adjust the heating. Luckily we could open the windows a bit.

Thought the bedroom was very old fashioned and the bathroom needed a update badly. The carpet in the hallway was awful, really uneven. The breakfast was very good and the staff were very attentive and cheerful. Our meal in the restaurant was good.

The room was noisy until midnight - there was a function downstairs that kept us awake. not as modern as other hotels in the same chain that we have stayed in and enjoyed. It was a Saturday night stay at £84, cant complain too much - you get what you pay for!

« The stay was as good as I have always experienced...... until I found out of a £85 erroneous payment »

As per the title, the stay was as good as always. The problem was that in addition to the £275 I paid on the 27th February for my plus two colleagues stay for one night, an additional £85 was taken from my Credit Card dated 28th February. I wrote to the hotel explaining what had happened and to date have received no response. I am sure this is a mistake as the Gentleman at check out was having difficulty with the speed of the computer as well as putting all three rooms onto one bill. I hope to hear from you soon.

« Request for quiet room ignored »

The check-in was a great example of customer service, Amit welcoming me. My Accord Club number had not been matched up from previous stays, so Amit did this for me. The room allocated was not a quiet room as requested. I had requested 307. Instead, room 316 was allocated, and this has an interconnecting door to the next room. The interconnecting door was also unlocked. Amit arranged for it to be locked for me. At 4 am on my first night, I was awoken by the guest in the adjacent room snoring, the sound echoing through the interconnecting door. (Wood is not as efficient a sound barrier as a brick / block wall) The night staff were very helpful, getting me a coffee at 4.45am, and fetching me cereal at 5.30 am. The breakfast room is not open for guests to go and select their own cold food, until 7 am (later than some other local hotels) Amit moved me that night to Room 436, which was ideal, and very quiet, for the remaining 2 nights.
