Easy and fast check in with very helpful staff. I went to my room and discovered my radiator wasn’t working. I went to reception and she said she would find someone to take a look. After a few hours I went back down as I was getting quite cold. Reception gave me a tiny heater and said that should heat the room up. I went out for dinner and came back and the room was still cold. I went down again and they said they would try to find another heater. I asked if I could change rooms as I was cold and didn’t think an extra heater would help. We were able to move room and the radiator was working. Although eventually I was offered to move rooms, I felt that for the amount of money I had paid and the fact I was staying more than one night, they should have done more for me. Although they were helpful. Reception had also advised that I had somehow been booked in for an extra 2 nights although my booking confirmation confirmed I wasn’t. I was advised to check I hadn’t paid a deposit for that part of my stay and the lady fixed it on your system

« Generally disappointing with the service, quality of room, facilities, apparent poor staff training »

1. Room - iron not working, ironing board was so small and poorly located that it was hard to iron my shirt. 2. I called reception to request an iron. No one turned up. Later I called at reception - 25 minutes before I got an iron. Receptionist tried her best. 3. Toilet - not cleaned properly. I had to flush the toilet before could use it. 4. Shower - water pressure fluctuated throughout my morning shower. 5. Waited at reception for 5 mins, no-one turned up. 6. Later in the evening, receptionist was talking to a colleague at the bar and called over loudly to me from the bar area to reception asking how she could help. Hardly professional. Seems like the hotel is short-staffed.

The staff were friendly and the service was good. The upstairs bar - couldn't put drinks on the room. The lighting in the room was poor, could do with higher wattage bulbs by the mirror or in the bathroom. The food was adequate as the meat on the main course was tough.

« Dissapointing, not the hotel it used to be »

The general assistant was very nice, I asked a question and the manager came in rather abruptly. I had a similar abrupt experience with her on checking out, I was a bit slow and she was quite irritated. The carpets are grubby and the paintwork and decor dated for the price

« A very ordinary and overpriced stay in a hotel that epitomises the phrase ‘faded glory’ »

1. It took nearly 10 minutes to get through on the phone to the Accor central reservations team 2. The main entrance into the hotel looks like the door of a downmarket pub 3. The ‘Privilege Room’ (joke) smelled of cigarette smoke and I had to call for some air freshener 4. The basin in the bathroom was nothing short of disgusting, with large rips in the enamel. Goodness knows what germs are lurking in them. The remainder of the bathroom was distinctly shabby. 5. The bedroom furniture was dated and tired. The window ledges were very gritty and dirty. 6. The food in Marcos was ordinary and overpriced for what it was, as was the wine 7. My original wine glass was dirty and the waiter did not take the cork out of the bottle of red wine at the table, so how was I to know that the wine was from a fresh, single bottle? 8. £160 was an awful lot to pay for a very ordinary stay in what is, frankly, a run-down hotel. I was grateful for the reduction off my bill that the receptionist gave me, but I would have preferred not to have encountered the various problems in the first place

« No central heating for the not acceptable. »

As above the central heating was broken but still took my money for an expensive room. If you know a room is not habitable on one of the coldest nights of the year you should have changed my room. Unacceptable

After 5 nights of being satisfied with the room and the service, it was completely ruined by the 6th night. I was awoken at around 10:15pm by extremely loud voices, which I realised was coming through speakers below the bedroom. I rang down to reception to discover that there was an event. Nobody had mentioned this event at any point during my check-in or previous 5 night stay. It took an unacceptably long time to have my call returned with further information. I was offered another room in a 'quieter' part of the hotel. Well, after waiting for so long between being woken up and receiving the alternative key, I was wide awake and very angry. I felt extremely vulnerable and embarrassed walking across the hotel in my Pyjamas. The other room was extremely hot, I could still hear the party, and I was highly anxious about what would happen if I needed to walk back across the hotel to my room for anything. Considering there was no way I was going to sleep with that level of anxiety, I chose to return to my room. The party wasn't finished until 12:30am. I had to get up for work a few hours later. It was particularly upsetting because I suffer with a sleep disorder and mental health disability. As I was staying at the hotel for work, it had been pre-paid for by my employer. This was a horrible thing to happen, which ruined an otherwise pleasant stay.

The hotel isn't bad, to be honest. But it could be so much better. My room looked like it had been recently refurbished, but the bathroom window didn't shut. By didn't shut, I mean 6 to 8 inches open to the elements, on a night when it got to -4C outside. Still, I like cold rooms. The worst however was getting out of the shower to find the towel was dirty. You can't really ring reception to ask for a new one when you need it there and then. When I did mention it, no-one really seemed that fussed. Could be a very special hotel but isn't a the moment

Great location , nicely decorated and clean , everything in the room that was expected . Only negative coments would be having to pay £10 for parking in the onsite car park and also I did struggle to understand the girl on reception during check in .

« short break at Leicester Grand »

Overall,very pleasant. Hotel was very hot,and in order to cool room,it was necessary to open the windows. Being right in the city centre meant it was very noisy,especially on the Saturday night,until the early hours! There were also some very noisy(and late)guests. However,the hotel was nice enough,with pleasant staff and more than adequate meals,and ideally located for our purpose in Leicester.

Overall happy with my stay, the hotel is slightly dated but in good order and clean, gym was a bit lacking but that's a minor gripe. However I do think the parking setup is ridiculous, charging guests to pay £10 for staying in the hotel car park is scandalous! Other than that, all good.
