Comfortable stay, but rooms are outdated for it being a 4-star hotel.

« The room was small, dusty and musty smelling »

Though the hotel looked beautiful upon further inspection it didn't deserve such great reviews. It was in a prime location but the bedrooms smelt extremely musty and dirty, there was no cleaning products so you had to reuse dirty baths. The room was much smaller than advertised,. The gym had very few equipments. The security was lacking, andone had access to the whole hotel and cards were only used on bedroom doors.

Expensive for the standard of Hotel. The room was hot as no air conditioner in the room. The location is excellent, a total refurbishment is required, to bring this hotel to modern standards. Disappointed to have to pay extra for parking. I considered another hotel close to the theater, I only chose the Grand because of the parking.

« unbearably hot rooms that were outdated »

I had booked the rooms for my sons graduation. there was only one bath towel in a room for 2 people. The windows did not open and the room was unbearably hot. So much so that no one in either of the rooms that i booked got any sleep. This was even more annoying as we had traveled up from Plymouth and had to travel back the next day.

« Fabulous staff and service, bedrooms not so grand »

The Grand is very grand downstairs. The bar and restaurant areas are clean and beautifully furnished. The service from all the staff was of a very high standard. Upstairs is a very different story, the rooms are dark, have no natural ventilation or air con, the carpet was stained and the bathroom had quite a damp, fusty smell. The beds were clean.

« It was fine but average. »

Quite a small room. There was a school leavers prom on, which was pretty noisy and we weren't advised about it until we arrived. Facilities were good. We accidentally wandered into the archway of the restaurant when looking for a seat in the bar and were barked at by the waiter that we were in the wrong place - pretty rude. I feel drinks are overpriced. The room was much smaller than appear in promotional photos, which I suppose isn't really a surprise. Nice bathroom. Very little natural light in the room so it felt quite pokey and oppressive. The gent on reception was lovely. Chambermaids walked into the room at 10 despite check out time being noon, nearly catching me in a towel! Slightly disappointed with the room overall and probably wouldn't return just because it was a bit unspectacular for the money.

« ok, but not brilliant »

Firstly i must say the staff were very good. But for a restaurant with the name attached, we both felt this was food you could get at any chain style restaurant nearby, although what we had was well prepared.if i am away on leisure i would expect something a little more upmarket, as we have had when staying here before. Also we were a bit miffed about the bar situation. There was a large function on, and due to this when we returned from shopping, and when going down prior to dinner, we could not get near the bar, which as a resident i felt that should not be the case.

« Generally good stay. Room disapointed. »

I did not book it but got an adapted room. Which meant we did not like the shower and the shower curtain was a bit broken. The wardrobe rail was low down as adapted so long dresses and my trowsers were touching the floor. The kettle had to be boiled on the carpet. The lead would not reach.

« Unflushed toilet! »

Nice reception, nice check-in. Our room had solid waste in it, so we went back toreception where we were allocated another room immediadetly and given 2 drinks vouchers. The second room was small, dirty with the bde jammed in a corner, so I had to climb in over my partner. The carpet was so dirty we had to keep our shoes on. The window openning was restricted, so the room was too hot. We were in a hurry to meet friends, so we stayed in this room. I had very little sleep. The excuse that the windows are restricted is for "safety" reasons. The same could be achieved with a bar across the window openning to save any morons who are not familiar with gravity. When we checked out with were refunded £20 and the cost of parking. All the staff we dealt with were very good and we felt sorry for them having to constantly apologise for the state of this hotel. This was the worst hotel experience I have ever had. I shall never stay here again and will never use another Mecure hotel based on the standards experienced here.

« Lovely hotel, very conveniently situated  »

The entrance was very luxurious. The receptionist very helpful and parking really convenient. The room it's self was very nice. The bed was comfy (and large) and everything was clean and tidy. The whole building was just lovely.

« Very noisy until 1am due to a high school prom party »

When we checked in we were not told of the high school prom party later that evening. When we arrived back at the hotel after our show, we discovered a gaggle of drunk teenagers at the entrance to the hotel. The door staff assured me that the music would be stopped at midnight but we were aware of high levels of noise until at least 1am. The receptionist later that morning gave us £30 off the price of the room as recompense for our lack of sleep, but I feel that we should have been notified ON BOOKING or contacted when the prom blocking was made to be given the chance to cancel. I would have not chosen to stay if I had known about the party being held that night.

« Excellent - well presented room, enjoyable sleep, and breakfast enjoyed. »

Really enjoyed my experience (the 2nd time stopping at the Mercure). The room was cleaned to the highest of standards each day, the breakfast choice was good, and the quality very good. My only 'wish' here would be to have more vegetarian/ non-dairy (vegan) options available, both at breakfast, and also as part of the dining options at the hotel. The assistance in checking in/ out, and general help from the receptionists was first class. Thankyou!

« Would not have stayed if I knew there was at event taking place and our room was directly above the event. »

Would not have stayed if I knew there was at event taking place and our room was directly above the event, only booked in the afternoon. Room was OK, noise was terrible from below until midnight. No air conditioning, couldn't belive a hotel of this standard would not have A/C. Bathroom was functional rather a nice design I would expect. Served the terrible drink of Aperol Spitz, by a bartender who didn't have a clue. But was happy to tell us that his next job was to clean the ladies toilets. I know these are all first world issues - just bit dissapointed. Tried Mercure as I would normally only book a Radison for work or pleasure but there were none in Leicester and I thought I would try another hotel brand. On the positive note, food was excellent. Reception staff were understanding and discounted the room by £60 and paid the parking. Tried to become a Le Club AccorHotels but could get the website to work. Please take this feedback as a positive to improve your service in the future, don't mean to be so complaining but it wasn't a great. Not sure if I would book any Mercure hotel in the future. Kind Regards Paul McGuigan

« Great convenient comfortable hotel »

We needed a central hotel for a wedding and this was perfect. They whole family enjoyed breakfast together. The only slight negative is that the bedrooms were a little hot.

« Shower didn't work »

The shower didn't have cold water, so it scalded me. I told the management about the problem but it didn't get fixed during my stay. So I was unable to take a shower while there.

« Lovely but too hot »

Staff and decor fantastic. No air con and window only opened a few inches therefore a very uncomfortable night as such a hot day. Wouldn't return for that reason. Also the most expensive glass of wine I have had in years, even in London! Lovely hotel and service but shame about the room which was too hot and actually quite dated

« Tiny room, crappy response!  »

The room was hot, tiny and poor. the receptionist on the evening was unhelpful, uncaring and unbothered? The one the next day was lovely and caring though. breakfast was rubbish too, half the things missing and not replaced at 9am.

« Satisfactory  »

Lift went down not up - didn't inspire confidence! Room had no chair, dripping cold tap and scuffed paintwork. Also carpet looked muddy. Better bathroom than last time I stayed here - much bigger and airier. Room was on top floor but wasn't too hot in spite of warm day. Good to have fresh air. No view whatsoever!
