« I always am well looked after when I stay at The Mercure Grand and this last visit was no exception. »

Very good as always. The staff are very friendly and welcoming. During my recent visit The fire alarm was activated and so the hotel had to be evacuated. The staff dealt with the situation very professionally and everyone was kept up to date with the situation. Eventually after about 1 hour we were allowed back into the hotel as everywhere had been checked by the fire brigade.

« Mixed feelings »

Beautiful entrance hall and bar, helpful staff. Very outdated rooms, poor fitting carpets in hallways and and in need of a deep clean.

« Bad sleep but great customer service »

I didn't get a good nights sleep on any of the 3 nights I stayed - first night there was a fire alarm, second night partying guests on my floor and the 3rd night a wedding with a loud function. However, I do not hold the hotel responsible for these issues and when on the third night I asked to move room the gentleman on the desk (6 August at approximately 9pm) was extremely helpful and efficient at finding me a quieter room. In fact the staff generally are making this hotel the place it is, specifically those on reception and in the bar area. The common areas are lovely but the rooms seem tired and could do with a better range of toiletries in the bathroom. Nevertheless I would stay again because of the customer care - and just hope for better luck with the noise and disruption issues!

« Rude staff! Small rooms! Noisy rooms »

Horrible stay. Hated it. Good location, good interior design. Receptionist had a huge chip on his shoulder (short caucasian male with short hair). Was rude everytime I made a query or checked in / out. Room was extremely small and the view was a brick wall out the window!!!! ( room 307 ). I could hear every noise in the corridor and everytime the corridor door opened it jolted my room door waking me up. Parking in the hotel car park resulted in my car being COVERED in bird droppings which meant i had to wash it straight away. Horrible experience staying with mercure leicester.

« Wedding Night »

Nice, spacious room in the middle of the centre - I was in the Presidential Room. The room was too hot and no fan or AC - unfortunately it got too hot given it was mid-July

« Old and needs a faCe lift. »

We stayed in room 405. A double room which was booked for a birthday present it looked nothing like the example picture on the website it was old and super small! Stains on the ceiling and carpet, dirty old windows and no room to move. The fire alarm also went of at 10.30 pm and did not get back into our room until 12pm where we were offered a free drink at the bar.. at 12pm!!!!! Staff plesent but super young and unorganised to deal with large situations like this.. poorly managed and in a real fire it w

« Cleanliness - Shockingly awful - No excuse »

We booked this hotel as we were attending a wedding in Leicester. We chose this hotel as it look quite modern and contemporary which is the kind of style we like. First impressions, were good as we walked through the lobby to reception. Mitch, who checked us in was helpful and polite. When arriving at our room, opening the room we were immediately hindered by the bed and the to desk literally in front of the door which was most odd. The room was very dark and quite morbid. The shower room was filthy, cobwebs from the window to the shower door, there was hair all over the floor, even in the shower. I then thought I'd check the bed, yes there it was more hair in the bed sheets, there was then what looked like pubic hair on the note pad. There was dust all in the corners of the carpet. I rang down to reception and spoke with Mitch who said he come and have a look and see if we could change rooms. I looked a two other rooms and chose one of them. Equally both were not very good. The lights didn't work so could use the area as a dressing table as was very dark and had to use the bathroom which was an awful yellow light. There were cobwebs in the corner of the bathroom and what looked like blood splat stains on the tiles in several locations!!! There was old toothpaste spit in the sink?? There were stains all over the carpet, I don't even think the carpet had been hoovered??? The curtains were hanging off the track so couldn't close those completely. I found an bitten off acrylic nail on the bedside table. Chocolate on a cushion on the bed. There wasn't even a safe in the room. I rang down to reception and again spoke with Mitch. He arranged for the room to be cleaned whilst we were out. The minimal was done the carpet still hadn't been hoovered nor the sink cleaned. When we came down stairs to have a drink before our taxi came, we sat on the long purple sofa which was even dusty along the back. The breakfast wasn't even all that great either. Poor grade sauages, cold grilled tomatoes which had just come out of the kitchens. I never even ate my breakfast, I just wanted to leave. I have to say Mitch was very professional at all stages. It seems that the housekeeping side needs retraining as these are all jobs need not be missed. The rooms I looked at really could do with updating, very poor furnishings, very dark and dindgy. Overall a poor experience and really wouldn't stay in a mecure again.

« A few issues »

Stayed at the Mercure Grand as a " last weekend" celebrating relocating my life from that city to Manchester the next day , Firstly , I must say the staff did all they could to resolve issues that arose , but the issues ought not to have arisen . here are the issues ; 1. Hotel website advertised speedy WiFi . This was not the case and we had to moved to a lower floor room to access it. 2. We booked late check out, but returned to our room in the afternoon to find another guest had been allocated it and had access . The fact is that guest had access to our money and valuables in the room . This was not taken seriously ,though the guest was issued with another room . 3. The room service menu advertised " all day breakfast " . When requesting this, we were advised this was not the case . 4. No gestures or complimentaries in our room such as biscuits , limited beverages .

The staff are always friendly and knowledge and service is 2nd to no other hotel in Leicester. It's like luxury in the heart ❤️ of the city. Beautiful building and gorgeous decor and concept.

« Extremely disappointing ! »

Our stay was extremely disappointing, we had booked two 'privilege' rooms, one for us and one for our daughter and her partner. On arrival we were asked had we booked rooms of different standards when we told the receptionist that we had booked them both the same grade he advised that the rooms had been 'privileged'. The room we had been allocated was on the 5th floor accessed to the 4th floor by lift and then up a small winding staircase up to the 5th floor. The room was small, hot, with a standard size bed and a very narrow shower room up several tiled stairs which was certainly not ideal. There were numerous issues e.g. light bulbs not working, loose hand rail, protruding screws to the flooring and even a light hanging loose in it's socket and a shower that did not drain away so my partner had to step into 3 inches of water that had not emptied. I complained to reception but was advised that it was an old hotel and he could show us worse rooms and that he even felt awkward at times due to the standard of rooms! As members of LeClub Accor we accrue points for stays, even this did not tally as we were given different points on each room. We had booked and paid in advance for the rooms - this was a mistake we won't make again as we really feel that we have been charged for something we did not receive. We noticed some of the rooms below the room number had 'Privilege' ours did not and with the best will in the world adding bathrobes and a coffee maker to a bog standard room does not upgrade it. In more general terms the standard of cleaning throughout the hotel was seriously lacking with carpets in need of a thorough cleaning and even when our room was 'done' on the Saturday morning it was left with bits on the carpet and work surface. Our room overlooked the glass roof of a function suite which was noisy on our first night and the smells from the kitchen extractor were very evident. We are not unreasonable people and had we been advised that the hotel was overbooked and they did not have a room of the grade paid for, but had added some extras to a standard room and would refund the difference to my account that would have diffused the whole issue but to take us for mugs rather than valued customers is just not on !

« Disappointed for a hotel styled " The Grand" I. It's title »

The communal areas are lovely . The rooms are decent but lacked touches such as biscuits and water bottles . No air con , but a an electric fan was provided . The room service menu advertised ' all day breakfast ', but call at 11.30 to request this and was advised ' only toast left' (?) . Similarly the website advertised speedy wifi , but reception had to assist us to move rooms as the upper floors had no connection . We paid for a late check , but returned to find another occupant entering our room before time . Saddened that no apologies were given to this serious security risk to our posessions.
