What a let down

Talboteer Couples - 20/06/2019 TripAdvisor review

We visited this hotel two year's ago and it was so good so we went back for an overnight stay on our way up country. Firstly the receptionist, who was busy with a problem did not make eye contact or acknowledge our arrival. Then he explained the booking mix-up for the other guest to us as if we cared. This was followed by him complaining about having worked 6 hours the previous day. When I was in the hotel industry we worked split shifts, usually spread over a 12- 13 hour day. We were advised to book our table in the restaurant for 8.00 as there was a table of 14 at 7.00 and the restaurant could not cope with us before then. We arrived a minute or two early and then had to wait 30 minutes for two portions of terrine, and the whole meal service was slow. When we mentioned this the comment was, "they are very busy". I can only assume the hotel had not staffed up to cope with a half empty restaurant and a wedding. Our room was okay, but there were only 2 pillows on the bed, and there was no point in asking for more, as the receptionist had informed us when we booked in that the housekeeping staff had finished. It was surprising that there were no biscuits with the tea and coffee in the room, and the towels were quite thin. On arrival at breakfast next morning there was very little food on display, again a lack of staff, or forward planning, led to a significant delay in this being refilled. Overall I feel this hotel is not worthy of being called a Mercure.

Heather Friends - 18/06/2019 AccorHotels certified review

I really don't know where to begin, from start to finish our stay was a nightmare!! 1, Check in was fine, except the fact that we were all at different parts of the hotel, which made getting ready for the wedding isolated, instead of being able to walk from room to room having a chat and socialising, we had to trek on our own through the hotel in our dressing gowns! 2, Thursday evening meal, 5 of us had the beef burger one steak and child's fish and chips. Everyone who had the beef burger was sick, so I can only guess this was due the the burger meal we had. 3, When it got to the wedding meal, only half of the top table got wine, when we realised they weren't coming back we had to go and ask for it. 4, Everyone's main course came out and was placed in front of them except for mine (mother of the bride) I was left and again only got my food when I realised they weren't coming back and asked for it. 5, Drinks were watered down if you asked for a mixer with it, I had hardly any JD in my drink and my father had a gin and tonic with no Gin! 6, My husband saw the barmaid short changing guests and then she tried to short change him, quickly got the correct change when she realised he wasn't drunk and he had words with her. 7, The bar staff were extremely rude when serving customers. When it came to check out I refused to pay for the burger meals x3 on my bill and this was removed without any fuss, only positive. 8, I have gone through my bill properly now and noticed that I was charged a service charge of £10.24, a tip for food poisoning! 9, When you stay and you book a table you are meant to get 30% off your meals. This was not deducted. 10, no toilet roll in our room on the second day/night Normally I would over look a couple of issues but there was so many, I am really not satisfied with the whole thing.

It was ok not much benefit for wedding guest

It was Ok room was clean. However booked through the hotel as a wedding guest. Did not see any benefit doing it this way. Was told would have a better room with wedding party. To my knowledge this did not happen. Someone who booked through a independent website was next door and paid a lot less. Breakfast was awful 9am no food out took ages to get fresh food.

I think the standard of the hotel for the price charged was too much. We were told to pay £11 for breakfast when booking in, or it would be £16 the next morning that was per person, it was a serve yourself, the eggs were past being very edible. The £151 for the night was too much, we were on our way to Cornwall, on our return we stayed at a Holiday Inn Express, it had been open just 8 weeks and was fantastic value at £72 including breakfast.

There was a wedding reception in which in itself is fine had we been warned about the noise. We were quite a distance from the main hotel but could still hear the music and the thudding. People were them banging doors all night. At breakfast were made to feel uncomfortable by the wedding guests as we were the only ones not part of the wedding party the receptionist wanted to give a refund but said couldn’t as we had booked through wowcher

Comfortable overnight but unloved

Chris Couples - 12/06/2019 AccorHotels certified review

Spacious clean room in outbuilding with comfortable bed for overnight stay. Patio area with seats could be bonus but covered with leaves, bin full, paint peeling Service poor. Late arrival and calling number only rang a mobile at reception; left hanging around until someone appeared. Only item on room service 24hours is pizza. Lengthy debate on checkout re prepaid by booking site and showing confirmation was queried. Checkout for 2 previous quests also slow and lacked customer service Overall unloved feel or care

The rooms are a good size and pretty clean, though maybe a little basic for the price? The man on the desk when we checked in was very approachable and gave us a very warm reception. Unfortunately he wasn’t on the next day when I went to request another towel for our room as we only had one. I asked twice as we had to shower and get ready for the wedding but in the end I had to go and find one of the cleaners and ask if I could take one from her trolley. The breakfast was very nice but I did notice the lack of vegetarian options available, something to be aware of if you are vegetarian.

Rubbish journey down a single nearly non-passable lane. Room and grounds were tranquil.

Road leading to hotel and car park requires some repairs to be done, spent part of the time trying to navigate round holes without damaging the car. Housekeeping wants to be more "professional". We had to request extra towels twice during our stay and on one event, had to go to the front desk to request and collect said item. Found hair grip in the bathroom, not ours! The toilet was cracked and leaking on the floor. Missing light bulb from a lamp standard, are room checked for such items? The steps to / from car park require some attention to complete the repair and add a second handrail. Collected some disposed rubbish and placed into a waste bin, are the grounds checked for debris, as the item was there for at least 3 days to my knowledge?

Very disappointing

We really enjoyed our 6 night stay at the Grange Hotel, Bristol North. Allen was excellent and so was Amy the waitress, as were all the staff. There were a number of small issues that frustrated us though. By the Hotel entrance there are two, two seater settees both covered in cigerettes and ash and never cleaned, the whole floor area was covered in thrown away cigerettes and rarely picked up. There was knowhere for none smokers to sit and enjoy the beautiful parklike vista, knowwhere!!! The hotel needs wooden garden seats, in different positions around the wonderfull grass areas and some garden urns with flowers. The smoking area should be designated to a little used area outside in the centre of the complex where there are many tables and chairs that are never used. This would leave the attractive front entrance free of smokers and not give new arrivals the wrong impression. In 6 days we only saw the manager once for 10 minutes, she needed to be there on and off, just to iron out the little problems people have especially on the 2 wedding days when the GREAT staff were actually running between jobs and the manager was on holiday. Overall though the stay was great and we would stay again. Thank you.

Stay here for one night. The team were very attentive and food was fine. However the room was very tired and in need of a refresh.

Shabby Accommodation and no room service.

Hotel itself was fine. But definitely needs updating / repairs performed. My room had a hole in the bathroom door and was generally a bit run down. I called for Room Service twice and the phone was not answered on either occasion (I let it ring for a while 30 seconds or so each time).

Disappointing

The hotel was comfortable, if a bit dated. The rooms were fine and clean, but the bathrooms were slightly grotty. There was a smell of damp in the hallway carpets. The night we stayed there, there was a wedding party and a lot of coming & going and a bit of noise as a result. The staff were responsive but sneered at us when we asked about tea and coffee, coming to the room and pointing to a tray underneath the kettle that was far from obvious. The grounds are beautiful and the price/location were right, but the interior could use a makeover and the staff could be more polite.

Needs refurbishment

Sue Couples - 04/06/2019 AccorHotels certified review

Disappointing. Stained and tatty furniture, decor and fittings with drab grey painted walls throughout. No air conditioning. Room 207 had a blown double glazed window pane so unable to see through. Bathroom door didn’t close or lock. Only 1 bath sheet and hand towel supplied. Limited tea and coffee. Worst of all is the idea of mixing raucous wedding guests with other guests wanting a quiet weekend away. So we were being woken up by loud and drunken behaviour from other rooms and out in the corridor at 1, 2 and 3am. More than one wedding guest arrived to breakfast in their pyjamas! Staff were going through the motions but not one was interactive with guests in general let alone us. It’s a shame as we expected more from such a large corporate company as Accor. We won’t be staying here again.

Overall okay.

Experience was okay. Hotel looks beautiful on arrival. Rooms dated, and bathrooms really dated. I apparently had a 'privelage room' so I'd hate to see a standard room. Two weddings on over the two nights music and people very very loud

Wouldn't recommend this place to anyone

Lorraine Couples - 04/06/2019 AccorHotels certified review

We bought this as a gift for my mum for her birthday and because she is going in for a operation. It's a shame that their experience of stay was very negative. Below is a list of issues that occurred during their stay; Unclean - Empty glasses left outside, in corridors and foyer. Obviously from previous nights wedding etc and wasn't cleaned up still by the afternoon of the next. Pictures advertised on your website for their hotel is not current and certainly isn't as appealing as it leads people to believe. Staff were either missing at reception or not polite. There was a lack of drinks stocked Hotel is in need of serious refurbishment, it's extremely outdated ranging from the outside, corridors and bathrooms. Outside was scattered with cigarette ends and litter spilling out over the bins, which ruined their chance of enjoying the Saturday sunshine. Tatty furniture outside Majority of their toilet roll had already been used when they first entered their room Only 1 towel between the 2 of them First room they were given was extremely pokey Ran out of white wine Advertised cocktails but never had half the ingredients. It appears to be a hotel running on a cheap budget As you can imagine i feel very upset at the experience they had seeing as this was a gift. It seems shame that you're offering a hotel which obviously isn't up to standard. My parents had conversations with other guests at the hotel who too were using their vouchers and they shared the same thoughts.
