Was ok. Wasn't great. Couldn't believe I had to pay over £10 for 4 kids fruit shoots. That's ridiculous. Stayed Saturday the 15th September for a wedding. In the hotel bar the girl that was serving was lovely and polite. Wouldn't say the same for the bloke very undermining towards her. Interfering with drinks she was making us found it very rude. And you could see it was annoying the girl. Breakfast was slow. Once food ran out took to long to replenish the trays.

« Poor Restaurant service »

The hotel was clean and comfortable. However the restaurant service was poor. Having ordered a steak i had to ask for a steak knife and they had no french mustard. Also when i asked for another glass of wine i was told i had to go and get this from the bar, by the time i had done this my meal was going cold.

« Comfortable stay in friendly hotel »

From check in to departure I felt a welcomed guest, the room was very comfortable and well resourced and dinner was exceptional. Breakfast a little less inviting and limited on choice but was still adequate. The gem of this hotel however is it's staff who were both attentive and friendly and very welcoming. The location also was great and offered good access to the m5 and Gloucester. A really good hotel would definitely stay here again.

« Friendly hotel; just a few disadvantages »

We found the hotel welcoming and friendly, a very pleasant and convenient break on our journey on the M5. Room spacious but dark on account of its small window, it having been part of the servants quarters originally. Bathroom clean but a bit basic for a longer stay. Food excellent. Full of elderly guests; unfortunately there was no lift to assist them. A problem as the hotel covered 4 floors

« Could be great! »

The staff at the hotel were lovely. The cleaning was not up to scratch. The food was lacking in flavour there was no love there and I found myself ordering food that I know they couldn't get wrong rather than what I wanted. Overpriced for the quality. Ths hotel looks fantastic from the outside. Unfortunately it's badly run and therefore I couldn't get the relaxing break I wanted. For now I would not return to this hotel.

« Ok for a one night stopover »

Stayed here overnight on way to a meeting the next day. Arrived at 8.15 pm and was told that I would need to hurry to get food as last orders taken was 9 o’clock so was glad I arrived when I did. Overall quite a good stay. Food was good ( dinner and breakfast) service was ok although the bar / lounge felt understaffed as there were food plates and glasses left for ages on tables . I had to move a couple of used wine glasses to get a table. Check in and check out experience was quick and hassle free. My room on the top floor was nice and big , it looked good but there was a musty smell - probably because none of the windows would open so I’ve no idea how they air the place. There is a small air vent in the bathroom but there needs to be more ventilation. Perhaps unsurprisingly there is damp on the walls particularly noticeable on the wall above one of the sash windows.

« Pleasant stay »

We booked the value for money Beatrix Potter afternoon tea and one night B&B package. Staff were all pleasant and friendly. The afternoon tea was lovely - the carrot cake was some of the best I’ve ever had. Great views from the large windows across the grounds whilst we ate too. Room had everything you needed and was clean. Only disappointment was the breakfast. The selection was minimal compared to other Mecures I’ve stayed in, the bacon was very fatty and we weren’t offered any tea or coffee so had to ask for it. There was a large coach holiday party in so maybe this was why it was below standard. Overall it was a great one night break :)

We were disappointed with the room. Food very good. Staff pleasant. We were given the Red Letter day voucher for our golden wedding, which stated room evening meal And breakfast. We were suprised when booking out that we had to pay a supplement for our evening meal. We think that upon ordering our meal this should have been made aware.

Friendly welcome. Efficient staff. Pleasant ambience. Clean and well maintained. Long walk to room and no lift. No offer of help with bags. Room clean, beds a little hard but good. Minimal approach with no drawers or wardrobes. Wi-fi worked well. Quiet room, nice views of grounds. Booked via agent for car enthusiasts weekend.

« Staff accommodated our late arrival (from a wedding), reception, bar and catering staff extremely helpful and efficient »

We enjoyed our stay and the room requested (a wide bed as my wife has back problems) was provided to us. The number of stairs and distance to the room however was quite demanding especially for three trips to the car in a short period of time (for luggage) and in view of the health problem we could have been advised that there was no lift. The bar and catering staff were very helpful and polite. In terms of signage the arrows indicating reception on the corridor doors to the staircase could be quite confusing for some guests. These doors were permanently open for the duration of our stay and therefore the arrows were ambiguous in directing the way to reception.
