« Overnight stay »

Very comfortable and welcoming friendly staff

« Generally good, but....... »

Paid extra for the Privelige room and it was worth it. Nespresso machine, bigger room, bigger bed, bigger TV. Stayed in the old part of the hotel. Room had been lightly refurbished but tiling and towel radiator in bathroom hadn't. Hilarious gap up under the door meant the observer was slid under the door! Thin walls meant snoring could be heard from the next room. Food and service in the restaurant was extremely good for breakfast and dinner.Reception was efficient. On the top floor which could've been a problem if we weren't fit. One weird thing was that there was some king of religious singalong with bass, drums and keyboards from the room under us on Sunday morning. We weren't having a lie and we went to breakfast for most of it but it lasted from 10 to 10 to 10 to 12

« Great experience »

The staff were very helpful and friendly at the hotel. We have a good room with a nice view of the grounds and fields opposite. The 5 course tasting meal was more than we expected, nicely presented and was good. We also had 3 flight drinks to compliment the meal which were also very good. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay .

« Great hotel, will return shortly »

How hotels used to be, well run and nothing too much trouble. The only shortcoming is the lack of a room safe. I was told that they are not provided, Why not? This is the only Mercure hotel that I have stayed in that does not provide this important facility. Also a minibar would have been welcome in the grade of room.

Nice hotel, friendly staff. First class service on first night from restaurant manager. Very much missed on our second night.

« I cannot chose a N/A option »

I am disappointed that you were not aware that we left the hotel within an hour or 2 of checking into the hotel. We explained to the reception staff that our daughter was in A&E in Plymouth and we needed to drive to be with her. We left the key, so it might have seemed that we checked out in the morning but unfortunately we never got to enjoy the hotel or the restaurant - both of which we had paid for.

« Nicely refurbished hotel »

The refurbished hotel looked good. Staff were very pleasant. Breakfast choices were good, but choices from set dinner menu were very limited and a la carte menu uninspiring.

« We had a very relaxing stay and were made very welcome by helpful staff »

The hotel is in a very peaceful location, ideal for the Cotswolds and the members of staff were all very pleasant and welcoming. We would have liked to stay longer to explore the immediate local area. If the lake is within the grounds of the hotel, a footpath from the hotel to the lakeside would be a welcome addition to the amenities. Therre is a public footpath from Upton St Leonards but most hotel guests would not venture in that direction. The only criticism I would have is that (a) the vegetarian breakfast, which the menu described as including vegetarian sausages, was served with two oval pieces of spicy Samosa type stuffing rather than vegetarian sausages (possibly a left over from the dinner menu the night before, which featured a red lentil and chickpea dahl dish!) (b) the choice of dinner dishes for vegetarians is very limited (my wife ended up having a plain Pizza), Incidentally, the sash window in our bathroom was impossible to open.

« Love the refurb »

Visited the Bowden Hall, Gloucester for a weekend on a Secret Escapes package, which proved to be a lovely relaxing extremely good value for money stay in a beautiful part of our country. The hotel is set in a beautiful setting. It has been recently refurbished in a very tasteful way. Following a brusk check in, we then had a very relaxing stay and were served by so many staff who just wanted your stay to be perfect. They were so helpful and accommodating. The rooms were large, clean and well serviced. I would say that I had thought the rooms were meant to have coffee machines in them rather than a kettle and awful Nescafé sachets and one packet of biscuits between two! Also, the toiletries were very limited, toilet roll cheap, nasty and thin and the towels were greying rather than white! Seemed a bit stingy for the quality of hotel! The bed was large and comfortable and the bedding was crisp and clean. The dining room was tastefully decorated and fitted. I loved the lights. The service was good as was the food and menus were varied and good value for money. The bar staff were exceptionally accommodating and we really appreciated how they just wanted to please. Please also bear in mind, this hotel does not have a lift installed, making access difficult for some. The wifi was mainly good, but it did drop out at times.

« Room comfort was terrible and I had no sleep »

We stayed as it was just a place to break our journey visiting family in Devon, so wanted somewhere nice to stay. Check in was very official, no how was your journey, just very process driven, although therefore did communicate all information. Room was red hot and seemed like a last let room, dread to think what it is like in summer, as we didn't have the heating on and still needed the fan on. Room looked out over the roof. It rained all night and the roof sounded like it was made of tin, as we heard the rain like it was bouncing off a tin can all night. Bed was very hard and the pillows were so big it felt like they were 3 pillows thick for each pillow, so I had to use towels to sleep on. I appreciate this room would have to be sold sometimes, but if there was any other rooms left I would not give this to a guest. Bathroom was clean and shower was good . Dinner was interesting, I asked for a veggie pizza and was given one with peas and carrots on it. Not offensive but rather strange. At checkout the lady although pleasant didn't ask us how our stay was. I thought it was odd the room service breakfast was £15 + tray charge whilst the restaurant was £11, seems like the in room breakfast prices have not been reviewed in line with the restaurant. It would be good to have a breakfast offer at weekends eg 2 for 1, as we would have had breakfast then. It would also be good to offer a cheaper DBB package, eg £50 supplement for DBB inc glass of prosecco or beer as we would have had this. This would be more profitable than £99 on Travelzoo which was the email I received when I got back.

« 1st class weekend - immaculately presented, out if this world staff, gorgeous room, »

What can I say the title says it all ..... 1st class weekend - immaculately presented, out if this world staff, gorgeous room. As you would expect, the room was immaculately present and well equipped. The Bath robes and slippers are a nice little touch together with a proper coffee machine. The staff were by far the most friendliest, kind, hardworking, dedicated and approachable I’ve come accords in a long while, they could not have been more perfect - In particular Holly on reception and Paolo in the restaurant so so kind to us and made our weekend even more perfect. The hotel itself is stylish, clean and has a lovely feel about it. Will definitely be returning! ❤️

« Average breakfast/Payment issue »

Overall the experience was about average. However the breakfast was below standard and certainly not of the level of Premier Inn.As I had pre paid and this had been confirmed when I arrived, I was annoyed to be asked for payment when I left !!

« Completely satisfied with all aspects of my stay. »

firstly, I hadn't realised that I had stayed at the hotel before and on arrival was pleased to be staying somewhere I was familiar with and had previously enjoyed. The staff are always 'happy to help', very courteous and go 'the extra mile' to make sure that my stay will be memorable for all the right reasons.

« Good but could be better. »

All staff were extremely helpful and professional. The hotel facilities are very good but the overall experience was let down by the lengthy time that it took to check in and out, despite the efforts of members of staff.
