Room was clean but smelt damp - condensation on Windows. Tea tray poor - 1 tea bag or coffee each + milk - no biscuits. Decor very tired - would benefit from an update. Pool etc was lovely but again could do with an update and Jacuzzi back. Overall a pleasent comfortable stay

The experienced could have been improved by having double glazing or even secondary glazing which would have prevented the room (49) from being unacceptably cold. I am also surprised that nothing has been done to seal the windows to the window frame where a cold draught could always be felt sitting next to the window at the small table in the room. I had increased the radiator rating from 3.5 to 5 but the outside temperature coupled with the wind caused a great degree of condensation. A large bedroom, but with only one chair?! Apart from this constructional defect which I assume is under surveillance for the comfort of future patrons staying during more clement weather, my wife and I were pleasantly surprised at the demeanour of the staff who were all jovial, polite and willing. We ate each evening in the restaurant but, being a "business " hotel, many meals are eaten in the bedrooms. We saw many trays, some with uneaten meals in the corridor. These should be removed as soon as possible! Sometimes, the restaurant was quite empty and to create a more amiable atmosphere, it would have been nice to have the opportunity of a pizza rather than it only being available on the room service menu. Perhaps a large "Mercure Hotel" sign would not go amiss on the periphery of the site. Our satellite navigation system worked admirably until we arrived at the hotel. We could not see where it was! We arrived from the northern aspect and there is no way of imputing 121 Boundary Road into the system we have! We were in the offside lane with tall vehicles preventing our view to the left! My wife has offered our services to Mercure and other hotels in the Accor group (though not Ibis) to be secret hotel inspectors. I think she's has the ability!! Dr David W C.

Friendly professsional staff who were ready to please and make us welcome Presentation and Ambiance good Adele performance first class Disco a bit old school for us. May be a good idea for them to listen to their pre-dinner back ground music as it had its hitches sometimes repeating the same songs. I used the sauna which badly needs a refurb. it was not even hot enough to sweat. The changing room floor was very wet too .

Booked initially as somewhere to crash in the evenings during a bowling tournament, am a little disappointed I wasn't able to use the gym/pool facilities due to a hectic weekend but would like to come across again at some point as just a weekend away.

Had to wait 5 minutes for someone to appear at reception. Noisy room as on road side. The food is never great but the lamb shank was awful. God knows what potatoes were used for the mash but "wood" and other objects in. Oh terrible service.

We booked 3 nights at the mercure through our Tesco Clubcard points and were given the Tesco rate rooms clearly rather than a standard double room. Booking.com were quoting us £250 for the 3 nights and to be honest the £60 We paid was enough. The rooms were in desperate need of updating from the very worn and dirty carpet to the windows that leaked water. In my eyes to twin beds pushed together is not an idea of a comfy relaxing night with my partner. I fell through the gap between the matress' as soon as I sat down. The bathroom was clean but yet again was in need of a desperate upgrade the bath handles were peeling and the bath disclosures with the grout on the tiles almost gone and the toilet we struggled to flush. After a few short hours in the room I had enough and had to pay a supplement of £60 for an upgrade for the 3 nights... the new room included bath robes and a coffee machine with an actual double bed but still wasn't up to the £250 weekend away I was expecting from the pictures shown. £11 for breakfast we only ate once as this was ludicrous for what we got. Swimming pool area certainly wasn't cleaned daily so I dread to think about the pool. All in all it was very disappointing and I certainly wouldn't say it was on par with the likes of the holiday inn or Hilton which there prices reflect to be competing with.

« More of event location... less of an hotel »

This is not really a very typical Mercure hotel. It's a huge facility with lots of room to stage wedding receptions, concerts and parties. Like a lot of 'event locations' the hotel rooms seem to be of secondary importance. It was quite noisy and the location wasn't the best I'm afraid. The room was fine, but suffered from having adjoining doors,(no noise insulation) so we were woken at midnight when the two people next door arrived back.

Variable. Business trips. A nice suite one week, noisy room another. Key card didn't work on two stopovers. Only restaurant meal was quite poor so did not bother again. In the corridor overheard a guest complaining about breakfast with manager arguing with him loudly. Not professional. Reception staff friendly and helpful. Rooms clean but need freshening up and modernising. Good location for my business trip with free parking.
