Whoever allocates star ratings should try staying (with average luggage and/or with restricted mobility) other than on the groundfloor in an hotel without a lift. This said, the Mercure offers a pleasant stay, with friendly and efficient staff, indoor swimming-pool etc. in an easy-to-find location. The food (à la carte) is reasonably good, but coach parties tend to be served in priority. You may find the beds a trifle hard, but cushioning layers are available.

Room very comfortable. Shower brilliant. The tea tray was poor only 1 teach and suger bag each, no water or biscuits. Staff helpful and friendly in the restaurant.

We were asked if we wanted to upgrade to a newly refurbished room, so for £20 more we enjoyed a lovely comfy big bed, access to a Nespresso Coffee Machine (which I gave up trying to fathom), complimentary newspaper, nice bickys and a range of Toiletries. Our stay was indeed comfortable - but the 'newly' refurbished room had a peeling dressing table top (room no 22) so not all new. I also felt the room was relatively small compared to a previous unrefurbished room we'd stayed in a few years back? Staff were welcoming and efficient.

The food service at the bar has not changed there is one person working behind the bar as well as taking food orders. The bar staff are understaffed this is why most of the time there are large amount of people waiting for either food to be ordered and after a long day at work this is the last thing I need when I get back to the hotel.

Great service and the staff cannot do enough for you. We ate in he restaurant on the first night and the food was superb. we will definitely be back.

Poor and outdated rooms for a 4 star hotel , general untidy rooms and bathrooms found hairs from previous guests plus a shower in one of the bathrooms didn't work wouldn't stay again

« Great Staff, hotel so so »

Found all the staff to be efficient and friendly, a credit to the group. My room no 6 was dated with poor carpets, had a decent sleep but generally was disappointed. I am a member of the gym at Mercure, Albrighton in shropshire and the gym / pool / sauna facilities are excellent and was expecting the same at this hotel. I was very disappointed to find that the gym is tiny with very little space as is the pool. The sauna and steam room were good but again on the small side. I would not use this hotel again but this is no reflection on the staff. regards Garry

Really lovely. Staff were extremely helpful especially when my husband accidently put his shorts in the laundry basket with the swimming towels! They went out of their way to get them back for him searching through all the laundry! Also everyone was very child friendly. Would recommend.

WHY do I bother having gold status?Or rather why is Norwich the only hotel in the UK not to upgrade us(we stay regularly and even the staff know us)? A bottle of water in the room would have been nice and would not cost that much.We did get a welcome drink after the young lady on reception had"forgotten". On the plus side good menu for dinner and good cooking.Breakfast was good value(have the pains aux raisins gone?)Friendly staff:Attila and Kaileigh in particular.

I felt that overall, the hotel lacked some professionalism probably through lack of training. The room was warm and comfortable, the food in the restaurant was good but the service lacked finesse.

« As ever....I enjoy Mercure Norwich »

I have had the pleasure of staying in this hotel many times for work. Knowing a member of staff some years I often get upgrade rooms (Thanks Sarah) This time I had normal room...which is fine. Drop my stuff off and get to restaurant for meal. Gammon steak...sweet potato fries.... As always...meal was cooked well,as good service. Wi-Fi works well...so evening on my PC. Bed gave good sleep, I had bit of noise from outside (room 36) I think it might be motor that powers something in swimming pool or kitchen??? Breakfast as before....served early so I then return to room until I check out. I REALLY LIKE THE MERCURE NORWICH. Now as this goes on ACCOR HOTEL SITE.....I would like to recall the last time I stayed I got NO POINTS added I wrote to Accor.....and it seems the agent my work use....and has used EVERYtime I have stayed here,with points EVERY time....the agent had in some way booked in a different manner. SO I get NO POINTS......needed two nights to go to next level......stayed two nights...and get NOTHING. I pointed out that I do not book,i am not allowed.....it is ALWAYS the agent we use.... reply was I still get nothing.and how I need to book future stays etc etc....and I AGAIN said how I AM NOT allowed to book...it is via an agent,that ive always had the reward points..... BUT this ACCOR company clearly DO NOT UNDERSTAND loyal customers. Stayed one night this week...booked in same way by agent......I await seeing what points are given or not. NOT IMPRESSED ACCOR....NOT IMPRESSED. I have used Ibis few times for my PRIVATE stays..... Maybe ACCOR would reconsider those missing points......as if not added...I will reconsider my future PRIVATE bookings...... THE ABOVE DOES NOT REFLECT ON THE BRILLIANT STAFF I FIND AT THE NORWICH MERCURE.

« My daughter says wonderful »

My daughter and her partner stayed for 7 days and thought the hotel was wonderful. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean,large with an excellent shower. Breakfasts were just as you would expect with a large choice and well cooked.

Great! Thanks so much to a wonderful team at the Mecure Hotel in Norwich. I had booked online through a well known hotel app. Unfortunately the app unbeknown to me, book my stay for the wrong dates. After explaining my predicament to the Receptionist, she managed to shuffle her rooms around and fit my family of 5, into a great family room. First class serice, Great Hotel & extremely attentive staff. We were treated like VIP guests during our entire stay, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay as did my children. Food was good and the leisure facilities were super. A perfect place to stay when visiting the many attractions around Norwich and Norfolk.

We stayed at your Norwich hotel before and found it very enjoyable. Your staff arr very helpful the breakfast team are excellent. The front of house staff are helpful especially Nadine who has been always happy been help anytime we had questions or needed local advice.

« Met expectations. Hotel decor is dated, bar lacks any ambience. »

Just about met expectations. The hotel needs updating as the décor is very 70's. The air con' in our room didn't work and as we were on the ground floor had concerns about leaving the window open. We booked 2 rooms and the 2nd was noisy both from traffic noise and a function taking place below. Staff were courteous but not friendly and the bar completely lacked ambience (playing MTV loudly doesn't help). Didn't try the restaurant, it looked basic........as to was the menu. The hotel was however clean and value for money.
