We found our stay very welcoming. Receptionist was friendly and efficient. Our room, although bathroom a bit dated, was clean and comfortable. We had a Wowcher deal which included dinner and breakfast. Four of us were staying at the Hotel, and all found our food to be of a good standard. We couldn’t fault the staff who were very attentive and friendly. Overall, we would definitely stay here again.

Fantastic greeting from staff upon arrival, room is clean and well equiped for a relaxing stay. The food is poor and not replenished very quickly at breakfast. Spa needs a jacuzzi.

Champagne & chocolates not in room on arrival as requested. Room was fine, however bathroom did not match rest of room. Evening meal was good but tired furniture let the dining room down and waiters getting tables ready for breakfast while we were eating was disappointing. Breakfast was not good. Over cooked sausages and bacon and rubbery hard fried eggs.

An average hotel in a good location; however, priority is given to coach tours, which limits availability in the dining room and causes delays in service. Breakfast was served on time and was hot, but the orange juice was of poor quality.

Reception staff were delightful however the vile conduct of the dining room catering staff spoilt the short break.The young dark haired female waitress behaved as though I was asking her girl the world when I politely requested the dirty table we were allocated be cleaned.Stood like a lemon fir nearly 5 mins for bread to make toast as the other diners had piled their plates high as though they were entering The Guiness Book of Records

POOR , DATED UPKEEP IN THE BEDROOM . NO NOTICE OR HIGHLIGHTING FOR DANGER OF UNEVEN SURFACE AT FRONT ENTRANCE . INSUFFICIENT SECURITY CAMERA'S . DIRECT SMOKERS AWAY FROM STANDING BY FRONT ENTRANCE . TOO LONG AT TABLE WAITING FOR FOOD TO BE COOKED AND SERVED . MY WIFE WAS SERVED UNDER-COOKED FOOD . NOT EASY USE ACCESS BUTTON INSTALLED AT ENTRANCE . I FREQUENTLY FOUND INSECURE 'FIRE ESCAPE' DOORS , BEING OPEN AND AJAR - SO RE-SECURED THEM . NO INQUIRY / INFORMATION FROM WAITER STAFF ABOUT REQUIREMENT OF PREFERRED BREAKFAST ITEMS . MISSING SECURITY LATCH OR CHAIN AT BEDROOM FRONT DOOR . HAVING LEFT A BOOKING FOR DINNER THE PREVIOUS EVENING AT RECEPTION - ON ARRIVAL AT THE RESTAURANT THE FOLLOWING EVENING - NO BOOKING HAD BEEN RECORDED . FREQUENT ANNOYING BLINKING OF BOTH SPOTLIGHTS SITUATED EITHER SIDE AT HEAD OF BED .

Extra bed missing from room, reluctance to move us to another room with correct number of beds even though it was available ! Hotel wanted to squash extra bed into tiny room instead - surely against fire regulations! Room service very slow, as was breakfast. Cooked eggs arrived after we had finished eating ! Swimming pool area tired, missing tiles etc. Overall very poor - hotel needs to up its game IMO if it wishes to be a serious contender in this competitive market We won’t return

We were greeted by a very cheerful and friendly young lady on reception, who immediately made us both feel very welcome. Check in was entirely painless and very efficient. The room was very well presented and equipped with everything we needed for our weekend stay. The bed was extremely comfortable and, coupled to the fact that the room was in a quiet part of the hotel, meant we caught up with some much-needed sleep! The food was of a high standard throughout our stay, despite some reviews to the contrary that we'd read before arrival. The breakfast buffet was always well stocked and the full-English option was always nice and hot. The evening meal and afternoon tea that we'd pre-booked was also excellent and very tasty. The dining room staff did a fine job of keeping everybody supplied with their orders and drinks, despite having a very large coach party to cater for in addition to a wedding party. The only complaint would be a lack of urgency in clearing away used tables at breakfast - we cleared a space ourselves on the Saturday. The housekeeping staff did a splendid job of keeping the hotel clean and tidy throughout our stay though, (the confetti explosion from the wedding party was cleared away very swiftly). In short we had an excellent stay at The Mercure, which was easy to find, has plenty of parking, and made us feel valued and welcome at all times.

Friendly staff, but it's so annoying the fact the keys re-set overnight despite heeding the warnings about not placing next to my phone in my handbag. I took care, but every night had to be let into my room which was one of the furthest from reception. The room was a little tired decor wise but clean. The car parking spaces are too narrow.
