Our stay in Mercure Tunbridge Weels was fine. Room was clean and quiet, the bed was good. The hotel has a nice indoor swimming pool. The bar and other public spaces lack atmosphere, but that seems a problem with many hotels. Altogether we had a good stay.

Check in took 25 minutes even though there were only two people ahead of us. Receptionist at check in took several attempts to understand that we wanted to add breakfast for one person to our booking for the 3 days, seemed confused that we had already paid breakfast for one person online. Same lady when we checked out also added the additional breakfast to our final invoice, again seemed very confused when trying to explain we had now already paid for both. I had to show her my online booking with the original breakfast and my bank balance showing the additional breakfasts paid on my phone. Phoned for room service on our final night, our room phone was broken so we had to go to the bar in the middle of a wedding group to order a pizza. My partner went for a bath one of the nights only to find slaters in the bath, so didn't bother. Also another bug found in the bedroom above the bed. This likely came in the window which didn't shut properly! The iron attached to the ironing board was awful, could not iron a shirt properly, but this has obviously been addressed in the past as another steam iron was provided in the cupboard. Although a good idea, when plugging into the nearest plug it only reached about an eighth of the fixed ironing board. As a result the plug pulled loose without me realising, the iron cooled down and spewed water all over my shirt. I since found out that friends staying there also experienced this but had an additional ironing board they could use. The only positive was the bar staff were really accommodating and pleasant in keeping the bar open late for us. I think the part of the hotel we stayed in has seen better days, I booked this as a members rate but I will not be back.

« OK but not great - I wouldn't revisit. »

Problematic. We had booked two rooms using a Virgin Experience voucher and then booked two further rooms via booking.com for the following evening. We were travelling with elderly parents so requested on the second booking that we retain the same rooms as the previous night and that our rooms were close by. This note had not been received by the Receptionist (although I could show it on my phone) and they were harrassed and not very helpful. We were in probably the furthest rooms from Reception, not adjacent and it wasn't until late the first night that we were told we would not have to change rooms the following day. Our room was ok, but we didn't really need a four poster and the furniture was dated and scruffy. We also had extremely noisy neighbours, both nights, who were basically partying in their rooms before going out around 10pm and returning in the early hours of the morning - with no attempt at keeping the noise down. Restaurant and bar staff were excellent but menu limited and expensive considering the quality of the food. Breakfast ok but nobody offered alternative to fried eggs - we only realised options were available when we saw others being served. Corridors and decor away from Reception very shabby and dated - my parents door had a 'spyhole' in it but no actual fitment - just a hole - so it was possible to see straight into their room. « Nice Hotel, Great location, But staff need to try harder. »

Arrived at this lovely Hotel to be greeted with the Receptionist on the phone for about 10 mins, When she came off the phone, no sorry about the wait or any comment, Then she could not find my booking, She got another girl from behind the reception, Then sign, room key, I was not told I did not have breakfast on my booking or would you like breakfast or Evening meal, Nice ground floor room, nice a big, Due to that fact we went out for a nice meal, Returning we had a drink in a nice little bar these staff were very good. Nice quick and pleasant services. Good night sleep. In the morning had an early start, Walk into the dining room, no staff around, Got a coffee and meal, Sat with my colleague eaten half the meal before some ask me for my room number. Then was told your room does not include breakfast, then the big shock the price, If I knew I would not of had breakfast, or I would have paid the £11.00 which I was told I should have checked when I booked in. Plus the way I told it was my fault not wait 5 mins to get seated.. Poor services around, need more staff and better.

Hotel was well presented, breakfast was good. Need more than one staff member on reception at peak times as wait to check in was ridiculous. On several occasions during our two night stay, there was no-one at all on the bar. Bar prices predictably high.

The Mercure at Pembury is tired and needs capital expenditure to improve the facilities. Compared to Premier Inn the condition of the property was poor and the breakfast of poor quality. It was not good value for money.

I was very disappointed since my since sister who initially booked the hotel, told me she had stayed in your Warwick branch and that she had enjoyed the experience. Firstly my room was very dark and depressing, there were half eaten chocolates in the drawer, and to be honest it really wasn’t that clean. I complained, and asked to change rooms, I would have been happy to pay more and be somewhere brighter, it was hard to do my makeup it was so dark. Apparently the hotel was fully booked and they couldn’t change my room , and I was offered free breakfast, which I accepted....just as well it was free, as by the time we came down to eat, there was hardly any fruit left, and I don’t eat cooked breakfast. Had it not been free I would have complained about that too.

Hotel were flexible with changing the dinner reservation for lunch as we were due to attend a wedding reception. Only comment I would make was trying to call the hotel I found this extremely difficult, I used the local number due to the cost of dialling the Accor number and got answered once where I was told I would get a call back, never did and on arrival day was still calling with no reply. In the end I used the Accor number which was answered. Happy on arrival though as we had an upgrade to a suite, and then realised we also got free ice cream! Result

I stayed for a weekend as part of a group booking with for an event. I was exteremly disappointed that spa treatments were not made avaialable when the option is advertised. The excuse given was that the spa was run independently by a person who did not pick up the phone to make bookings and rarely turned up. I think this is quite a ridiculous relationship to maintain and that the hotel can not say spa treatments are available if they can not be reliably provided. The possibility of booking treatments was one of the main factors in choosing this hotel above others. There was also a very disappointing issue with our function room booking that we were meant to have over the weekend. Unfortunately after our first brief evening session there we were not given the key for the room, and did not realise we were expected to keep hold of a key. The only key was supposedly with the manager who did not turn up to work the next morning and nobody else was able to grant access. I appreciate that we were fully refunded the cost of the room but this is really ridiculous that nobody else in the whole hotel was able to provide us access to a function room

We stayed at the mercure Tunbridge Wells to celebrate a friends wedding, the hotel and venue itself was fantastic. We had a lovely room with a nice garden view and everything suited us perfectly. We enjoyed the breakfast thoroughly and thought it was brilliant quality and had more than one serving. The pool/steam/sauna was a lovely addition before checking out and in terms of an overnight night stay we really couldn’t of asked for more. The only negative was when I arrived, there was some confusion with the guest in front of us wanting to extend his stay. There was a couple with a small baby behind wanting to check in also and we felt it was unfair for both receptionists to prioritise the man wishing to extend rather than looking after those wanting to check in. We only waited approx 30 minutes and it wasn’t a big deal to us but maybe something to consider in future. Overall I would highly recommend the hotel and staff. 8/10.

Staff were all friendly and efficient. However, room was very dated and of a lower quality than budget hotels like Travelodge. Stained walls, ceiling and floor. Chipped furniture. Radiator falling off wall. Broken floor tiles in bathroom. Cracked sink. Mould/grime around fixtures in bathroom. Shower head loose. Phones not working.

My wife Sarah and I stayed at the Mercure Hotel in Tunbridge Wells on Saturday and I wanted to express our deep disappointment in our stay. Firstly, we tried to call the hotel Saturday morning to book a table for dinner but it took seven attempts to get through to anyone. I was told the phones were broken so although it was irritating, I didn't think too much about it. We were staying with our 10 month old baby and although they knew, as we'd asked for a travel cot, we were put in a room accessible only by a steep staircase, which no-one offered to help us with. Again, hardly ideal customer service but we would have let that go. However, when we went to bed and turned out the light, we realised there was a flashing light outside our window (I've never been in a hotel that has a window without a curtain or blind). At first we both managed to drift off but it woke us up at about 1am and neither of us could get back off to sleep. At about 1.15am, my husband went down to reception, where we were told this light had been faulty for at least a month yet nothing had been done to resolve the issue. We questioned why they were still putting people in that particular room at which the man only shrugged. We were offered another room but as our 10-month-old was asleep, we didn't want to disturb him by taking him out of his bed and into the bright hallway. I can't think of any parent who would wake their sleeping baby, in all honesty. So we were forced to stay in a room with a light flashing and strobbing through the window all night. When we complained Sunday morning, we were told that they couldn't do anything as we'd already paid for the room - which included dinner and breakfast - but they wouldn't charge us for our drinks. We'd had a Pepsi and a diet Pepsi, which I felt was insulting. I'd presumed the Mercure prided itself on its guest's comfort. Apparently not. The only thing the reception could suggest was to complain, which is exactly what we're doing. I would expect a full refund as I believe that room should never have been let out and it was an extremely uncomfortable night. I look forward to your prompt response on this matter. As recommended by Trading Standards, I would like to keep a complete record of my case, so please reply back via my email, Th… or my wife's email account, sa… For your information there was no reservation or booking reference on the confirmation email. Very noisy room on ground floor, with noisy guests arriving up to 02.00 o'clock then thumping from upstairs starting at 6 o'clock on Saturday and Sunday morning. Quality of food has dropped since our visit last year.
