« Not a typical Mercure hotel... »

We did go to Berlin end of April. We did choose this hotel as it is place near the Alexanderplatz, thus easy accessible from the airport. Also, we did choose it as it belongs to Mercure hotel chain. Unfortunately, this is not a Mercure hotel that I am used to. For its good sides I must say that the hotel itself and our room were very clean. Nothing to complain about. The location is quite good yet it takes around 10 minutes walking time, if you arrive by bus from the airport, to get to this hotel. Then sleeping quality was good as well, no sounds coming from outside. What I did not enjoy that much was the service (apart from a very nice guy who did our check in at midnight): the hotel staff seemed to be a little bit lost and overbooked. The WiFi was absolutely unreliable, disappearing all the time (we have had a Premium one, yet we had to use our roaming instead). We had to ask extra coffee and tea, as the cleaners were not refilling the coffee/tea. We did not take the breakfast, as the price was outrageous - EUR 18,00 p/p, when just next to the hotel you could have a continental breakfast for just EUR 4,99!!! As for our room itself, it was very spacious, but completely old style (I would say communist era even). And, there was no mini bar in our room! Overall it is an average hotel in a center of Berlin. In terms of Mercure standards, it is well below the average, in my opinion. Do book it only if you have no other option.

Dear Robert, Thank you for taking your time to tell us about your experience in our hotel. We always strive to meet our guest's whishes and expectations, unfortunately it occurs that we cannot meet all requirements. Our rooms meet a 3*** standard and have been approved by Accor Hotels. Our guests can have a breakfast from 9.00 euros per day / person. This Notice / this information we have to many requests from our guests already started and attached directly visible next to the entrance to the breakfast room and also on the television in the lobby. lift not clean although there were 3 staff at the reception... room old carpet.. not even body lotion in bathroom but 2 shampoo and 2 aftershampoo when just 1 would been enough... grass in flower pots outside.. receptionists not properly groomed... wifi not working in rooms during whole stay of 2 nights.

« Well placed hotel and very helpful staff. »

The hotel is placed close to Alexanderplatz which is an iconic square. From there it's a bit of a walk to the other main sites but the U-Bahn is close by which gets you everywhere. Get a day ticket for about 7e for zones A/B. The hotel is next to a derelict building but if you have a room facing the TV tower then you get a great view at night. This hotel is only 3* so don't expect 4*. Having said that the room was fine and the staff very helpful and lovely. Breakfast excellent.

« This was one of the Lesser Mercure Hotels I've been at over the past decade »

Broken Wifi, no thernostate in the room, telvision with no channels in short .. not a hotel I'd like to go back to .. It was clean and well located but I couldn't work from the hotel so that's a big minus.

« Disappointing for a Mercure Hotel »

The hotel exterior and interior is very dated and I guess used to be a residential block (the back part of the hotel still is). As an Accor Platinum member I was upgraded. However in other hotels I have received a personal letter from the General Manager and a gift (small tin of chocolates in Barcelona, a tray of various fruits and nuts in Moscow). Here I had no letter, nothing from the GM and two small biscuits which I think was not 'especially' for me. Then on day 2 I came back to find no tea/coffee/shampoo/shower gel. So I told reception and they gave me some. Day 3 the same again. So I asked "Is this normal to have to ask every day for these things?" "Yes," came the reply. "After your first day we do not replace any tea, coffee, shampoo, shower gel etc. You have to ask for it if you want it." For a Mercure Hotel this was extremely poor - it's not in the budget category but they act like it is. And the reception staff were sullen.

« Huge rooms with fantastic view, fast internet & friendly staff »

You gotta give credit where credit is due. The hotel may not be the most luxurious one out there, but it earns its stars with ease and honor. The rooms are comfy, the TV (40-55") is better than most, the internet speed is very decent (though most non-standard ports are closed) and the staff greets you always with a smile. The only thing which is not absolutely flawless is the breakfast. Even if its not actually bad, I've still had better - even in some lower rated hotels.

The hotel is really good, clean, and the room is huge. Buuut, its a bit far from the turistics places. You must walk a little, so, in my opinion, its not in the heart of berlim! Although, if you dont care to walk, the hotel will be really good!

« SITUATION OK BUT OLDFASHIONED »

Reception friendly, helpful and professionel. Situation perfect (10 min on foot to Alexanderplatz) but public transport just across road. Breakfast very complete and well presented. Room 909 was "gigantic" but bathroom very small. A pity hotel is situated near a derilict building (gives an unsafe feeling). Ouside of hotel is very "East-German" but inside is nice. Contrary to hotel description to go to a restaurant plublic transport is necessary.

« Reasonable Hotel in the East part of berlin »

A typical East German construction, looking more like flats than a hotel. Opposite a huge renovation site and adjacent to a busy road and tram junction, which is useful for city transport. The building next door is due for demolition. The room although very spacious had tired decor, the bathroom was however very good, no bath but an adequate shower. Despite the adjacent transport hub the room was very quiet and the beds comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with frequent re stocking of the buffet. Our main problem was no internet in our rooms, either broken or too weak a signal. This was obviously a hotel wide problem judging by the large number of people at breakfast logging onto the system

« A Mercure Mystery »

My three nights here became five, for reasons beyond my control. The longer stay enabled me to find some answers to questions about items that had puzzled me. I was put into room 811 on the eighth floor; it was far more spacious than normal Mercure rooms: I discovered I was on the “Privilege” Floor. The room had some surprising facets: 1) unusually for a mid-range, city-centre hotel, it had a balcony (photo) with a great view (photo), especially in the evening/at night; 2) there was no air conditioning (uncomfortable in that warm period); 3) in the bathroom there were water and electricity meters (photo); 4) instead of the normal 3/4 electricity sockets, there 11 in the room, including some strange wiring (photo); 5) the desk was unusually large (with an immovable lamp); 6) the shower room was larger than normal; 7) there were 11 light switches (making it more difficult for ecologically-conscious guests to keep the electricity consumption low); and 8) the luggage storage was not very practical – my suitcase repeatedly tipped over (photo). The room décor was attractive: old sepia-tinted photos of the area. The supply of hot water was exemplary. The key card functioned impeccably. The only other snags were the poor location of the safe (photo) with very inadequate lighting; a shower so small (photo) that it was easy to accidentally move the shower control handle (photo) by accident and scald yourself and with no soap dish, so that the soap bars and shampoo containers provided by Mercure repeatedly fell to the floor; and a big door that it was virtually impossible to shut quietly. The breakfast room was unusually large and well-managed – I never saw it as crowded as many breakfast rooms. The breakfast buffet was of a high standard and so varied that I was able to have a different breakfast every morning. It was strange that there were no trays. There appeared to be no other meal (not even snacks) served: possibly there were too many restaurants in the area. The staff were invariably friendly and helpful. Beyond the lifts was a long row of mail boxes, marked as unused (photo). East Berlin friends confirmed my suspicion that this hotel was a converted block of flats. Another new experience at the check-out: I was told the hotel would refund some of my payment because of an accounting error (and they did). I would definitely return to this hotel, if only to see what the lower rooms are like.

Unfortunately we had to order spare parts so that we did not manage to solve the problem immediately. « If only there was air-conditioning? »

This is a spacious and recently refurbished hotel. Our spacious room had large balcony (for a city centre hotel) and a fairly comfortable bed. The breakfast was very good, and the staff excellent and very helpful. The hotel has a bar, but the only food service was breakfast. Unfortunately, our room had no air-conditioning or fan - which was an issue as it was very hot during our stay. The hotel is on a very busy road junction, so leaving the room window open overnight was not practical due to the street noise. There was also no furniture on the balcony. If there had been air-conditioning (or at least a fan) in the room and the balcony had had some furniture, then this hotel would have got a much higher rating.

« Great location, spacious rooms »

Location of hotel is close to public transport, mall, restaurants and Alexanderplatz. Location is a bit noisy. And there is no aircon in rooms (while we didn't need it, I imagine that if it is hotter it may be very unpleasant). The rooms were clean and spacious. The breakfast was really delicious with a big choice.

Breakfast was well stuffed and offered in a nice a room with lots of natural light. Luggage compartment offers lockable boxes for free. Tram in stops in front of the building.

« A Mercure below the standard »

The appearance from the outside is that of a cheap accommodation and not that of a Mercure hotel. The employee at the reception was unfriendly (not with me directly but with other guests, anyhow I'm bothered by bad manners). I was offered no welcome drink despite of my silver status. The room had no air conditioning, no refrigerator. The bad was extremely uncomfortable, the night table was dirty. The lights in the corridor would have needed maintenance.
