Plus: I really liked that my request for a quiet room was considered and that the check in agent pointed this out. I also appreciated the welcome drink very much Room for improvement: The pillows were very hard. Many hotels now offer two kinds a fluffy feather type and the harder ones you have. Not a big deal, however. Overall a great stay, I was very happy.

My credit card has been charged twice and despite a call to the Accor call centre, nothing has changed.

Dear Mr. D. Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Novotel Basel City. We really regret that your experience did not meet your expectations. At Novotel, we strive to provide a superior service experience for every customer; therefore your feedback is very important to us. You mentioned that you have called the customer care service. The customer care service has contact us already and received our clarification as well. Nevertheless, I would like to take this opportunity to forward this to you already. You have booked a nonrefundable, prebilling rate through accorhotels.com. The amount of CHF 136.00 was deducted from the given credit card directly according to the booking conditions. The payment has been proceeded through APOL (Accor Payment Online). This is our solution for secured online payments. As you took advantage of our online check-in service, the system took additionally a pre-authorization of CHF 110.00 per night. The pre-authorization is a normal process. According to the online check-in the pre-authorization was made through our online payment system as well. (APOL) Finally, at check-out there was just CHF 8.00 left to pay for city tax. This amount has been deducted from the pre-authorized 110.00. According to my experience, I know that you often do not see any differences on your credit card statement between charges and authorizations. Further there is no additional message shows that the pre-authorization has been released. Please rest assure that no unauthorized transaction took place I am very glad to reconfirm that no unauthorized transaction has been proceed. Please let me know if you have any further question. Nice hotel in Basel, where the distance from the old centre is easily busted by the free and unlimited transport pass provided by the friendly staff.

I have stayed at this hotel a few times and know what to expect. However, I felt I was not expected as had to request my drink voucher. Breakfast was far too busy and did not have a coffee due to the huge queue around the one coffee machine. Apart from this the stay was lovely.

Service at the lobby and bar were average, I believe for a 5 start hotel it can improve a lot. I'm not generalizing there were a bartender and a girl at the reception who were amazing. But the others made me feel like I was bothering them and as a client that is not good. More if my travel was for work and not by pleasure, they are a recommended hotel by the company some behavior was unacceptable. I could see that it was not only with me, the same was with other tourists staying at the hotel.

Straight forward booking, check-in and check-out. Comfortable room. Good breakfast selection. Shower screen was missing the seal at the bottom, resulting in considerable quantity of water on the bathroom floor after each shower. Not all toiletries were replenished after use.

Hotel checkin member of staff was not friendly- no information given about breakfast times.. location of hotel on map.. tram stops etc. Reception staff always looked stressed.. not a great 1st impression. Room was on the 'cosy' side for 2 adults and 2 children. Shower was good. Breakfast ok too

Hotel is nice inside, rooms are recently renewed. 2 things could be improved: - Underground parking is not easy to find before You're going at reception desk - the price for underground parking is quite high (more than 30 LCF per night...)

I was upgraded to an executive room which was a nice surprise. It was really spacious and comfortable. I would say that the only negative is that the bathroom has a heavy door that closes automatically and reminded me of a dormitory style door. The reception was very friendly and efficient, and the breakfast was delicious with great variety. It was convenient to walk around to the centre of Basel.
