« Disappointed »

The room was very good and clean, dinner was very poor as was breakfast, gym was tiny and limited machines although the pool was nice.

« Superb! »

Friendly dedicated staff who couldn't do enough for us & the finest restaurant meal we've had at any Mercure. Lovely relaxing cosy atmosphere (last way I'd describe our local Mercure [St. Pauls, Sheffield]!). Only reason I've only given 9 instead of 10 is: - please add to advertising (including Club Accor website) "THERE IS NO LIFT!". Much better than a nasty shock on arrival!!!

« lovely staff but basics dont work and couldnt sleep »

I have to start by saying I feel really bad about giving such a low rating, as the staff were really friendly and helpful, and there are some good amenities. Plenty of parking- even some specially designated for "lady guests", which made me chuckle- food was pretty good, there is good wifi and even a (small) pool. The hotel in general is very clean and tidy. The rooms have modern fittings but in old, dated buildings which really need a refurb- the carpets are torn and frayed in some communal areas. There arent any lifts to upper floors but the staff are more than happy to help with bags. Despite the many positives however I had to give a low rating as the main purpose of a hotel is somewhere to sleep, and this was near impossible for us. The higher you went in the hotel the hotter it got. It was a warmish day (for england) when we stayed but had cooled considerably (to 10celcius) by evening. Despite this, the rooms were an absolute oven. A fan had been provided but this did little, and it was 30degrees in the room (I know this as we had our five month old with us and had her thermometer). The hotel is also extremely noisey- its on a main road and is used as a function venue, with rooms directly over the function room/ bar and there doesnt appear to be much soundproofing. so unfortunately despite the wonderful staff and very cheap cost, I couldnt recommend that anyone else stay here.

« Clean, friendly helpful staff »

Could do with a bit of an update, the room is was in was incredibly hot with no access to turn down the heating which isn't good in August. Clean rooms and surrounding areas, staff very helpful and friendly.

« Nice stay »

Rooms are way too hot making it difficult to sleep, which marred our stay a little. Staff very helpful prior to stay by moving our room to a lower floor due to mobility issues.

« Good except breakfast where the layout was disappointing and the staff went AWOL »

Rooms clean and comfortable. Staff welcoming but the service at the bar and breakfast left a lot to be desired. Look for someone to get butter - then milk - then refills of coffee. Layout of breakfast was amateur. The presentation of the cooked breakfast was appalling - chucked onto the plate with a moat of baked beans. A £40. B&B would have presented better. Suggest you do a cooked buffet. I booked 3 rooms and all were good but the breakfast experience was embarassing

Stayed here for two nights when attending a friends wedding arrived quite late on a Friday and was greeted by a friendly helpful staff memeber.

« 1 night stay Wolverhampton »

Nice large room, plenty of (free) car parking spaces. Accomodation in separate block away from reception, little inconvenient. Also three sets of keys/locks to pass to get into the room.

« Home from Home! »

I love this hotel and stay here 2 or 3 times a year - the staff are lovely and the rooms are clean and comfortable. The only thing that grates each time I stay is the fact the ladies who clean the rooms don't seem to realise that not everyone is up early and checking out each morning so constantly banging doors and shouting to each other is inconsiderate to say the least - some people like to sleep in a bit! A second issue I had on this stay was the price of a bottle of water - £4.00 for a litre bottle!!! I nearly fell over when the night porter told me the price. Does it really need to be so expensive?! That said, all in all it's a fab hotel and I will stay there again and again.

« Business centre poor »

We were allocated a room in the business centre. The bathroom lights didn't work meant using the bathroom in the dark. The tap had no handle. Running the water caused incredibly loud water hammer for several minutes afterwards. Breakfast was poor. Reception had no tooth paste. Quite possibly the worst Mecure we've ever stayed in. However, location was good for us and previous stays in the main hotel were okay.

Many thanks for your review, I am sorry that you did not enjoy your stay in the business centre, I would always like guests to bring to our attention any issues such as lights not working so that we have the opportunity to fix these or offer an alternative room. I hope that you would consider the hotel again in the future and please request a room in the main hotel.

« The hotel needs lots of TLC »

The staff were friendly and professional. The hotel had lots of creaky floors, my room was by an exit door and it seemed every 2 hours someone was going past my room which meant I didn't get much sleep. The room was small and needed a lick of paint (in matching colours) and the bath panel just needed replacing. I know it wasn't the most expensive hotel I could have stayed in, but I was really disappointed.

« A weekend away »

I would call the hotel average, but it was a good deal for the price. Mercures in the Midlands seem to be very 'tired' at the moment, with lots of repairs required, but I don't want to be too negative as it was OK there. I was a bit disappointed that I had requested gluten free breakfast when I arrived, but at breakfast was told there was no gluten free bread (although they offered to go out and buy some, it was not exactly pro-active, but one could blame reception for telling me there was!) The pool was nice for a good swim, the room was tired but OK, but the stairs are very difficult to negotiate with bags as they are narrow and there are turns at the firedoors, which nearly made me fall down them. The staff were very pleasant, and I would go again, knowing what it was like, as it is easy to get into Wolverhampton on a bus from there and there is a Waitrose across the road!

« Not bad, but definitely bit expensive for what you get. »

Room was clean, roomy and comfortable albeit in need of updating, lick of paint, and lot of maintenance in places. Breakfast was quite good. Fitness club was dirty, grubby and in need of maintenance. Staff were helpful, but seemed a bit overrun at times.

« Shabby without the chic »

The room was hot, small but clean. The hotel should either be sold or updated, it is not up to the standards I would expect from Mercure, The pool ceiling needs replacing quickly before bits of tile fall into the pool.

The sauna door was broken. So a bit disappointed. The place looked clean and tidy staff were very friendly and proffessional, however the place looks tired and and requires a fresh lick of paint to make it a bit more relaxing especially the Spa area as I wouldn't go back for a weekend away. Business probably. Overall good service from the staff.
