Generally satisfactory, although felt more like a reasonable independent hotel rather than fully aligned to the Mercure brand. Room was comfortable, but a little dated, and bit musky. My room was in a separate block to main hotel, about a 50 yard walk (thankfully it wasn't raining). Breakfast of cereal, toast, basic fry-up buffet. Grapefruit juice looked semi frozen, so opted for the orange. Fitness centre / pool a bit shabby and in need of refurbishment. Supposed to open at 7.00, but reception lady in charge of the towels wasn't there until 7.05 (only 5 mins late, but it makes a difference if you are trying to squeeze in a workout). Good on site parking. If you need a basic, reasonably cheap, no frills hotel, then this Mercure is perfectly adequate.

« My stay was "average". »

The reception area and bar was pleasant, however my room was dated, especially the bathroom. In addition the lack of air conditioning meant that the room became rather hot overnight. On a positive note, the staff were very pleasant and very helpful at all times, so deserve appreciation for this.

Both rooms I stayed in were very hot with little ventilation. Room 29 is also very noisy with a really small shower.

Shower was Luke warm, carpets were stained, room too hot, smell of cooking from bedroom window which we had to then keep closed. Great staff, especially young, very kind natured, bearded bar man who went out of his way to serve food and drinks.

« Well located elderly but slowly improving hotel »

Check-in was good with helpful staff , corridor carpets renewed since previous stay which helped first impressions, room satisfactory and with good bed but limiter disconnected on centre-pivot window. Restaurant staff excelled with their friendly service at breakfast even when croissants unavailable ! Restaurant manager explained that croissants always disappeared by 8.00am when early guests departed but he volunteered to arrange that two croissants would be kept for my 9.30am visit - which he did ! This simple inexpensive act guaranteed a very happy guest and left a lasting favourable impression !

« Wonderful staff but tired hotel »

After parking (which was quite difficult due to a dead end car park filled with vans taking up 2-4 spaces each) I was greeted at check in by a very lovely and humorous team of people. The reception is beautiful - very grand. My room was up three short flights of stairs. The room itself was very quaint - tastefully decorated with nice touches like the grey walls and fancy light fittings. The bathroom was also very sweet - with a sloping roof and fancy tiles. Unfortunately the stay itself was not overly pleasant. The room was so hot that I had to have the window open all night and the traffic from the main road outside was very loud. I tried to cool down with a shower but the shower would not go any less than scalding. The dial went from 20 to 50, but even at 20 it was unbearably hot. There was also black mould in the very small shower cubicle. The toilet wouldn't flush before I went to bed so I had to leave it - but then just as I was settling down it started dripping very loudly. In the morning it was quite hard to do my makeup as there was no chair in the room, and the two mirrors were behind a sink and large chest of drawers. The bed was a bit lumpy. I didn't have time to eat but breakfast smelled great.

« Hotel was not up to the normal Mercure experience »

The room was clean but the bar area needs some redecoration as the plaster is coming apart on the walls , we were told at reception that there was a bar and restaurant menu but when we went to the bar the bar man said there was only the restaurant menu which we could choose parts off , he said the problem was that there was a new chef ! We ordered the pate and a burger , when they arrived it was obvious all the new chef had done was take a piece of supermarket pate and put on a bed of supermarket lettuce, the burger again although tasty was again not up to standard and the 2 items cost £18.95 ???

Simple check in. Shame no lift. The room was okay would be great if the stains on the carpets were cleaned or carpet replaced. Needs a tidy and update. Was a very hot day but the radiaters were still on. Good parking and nice staff

« Old, dirty and in a desperate need of paint. »

Where do I start. From my bedroom curtains that were dirty and dusty (room 40) I asked twice for them to be changed. My sink was blocked for 2 days to the fact that we were told that we were not allowed to eat in the restaurant between 7pm -8.30pm as the were also a coach load of customers staying there and eating at that time. We felt like second class citizens and when we went to eat in the bar, the actual bar area where drinks are served we're sticky and dirty. I have stayed in many hotels that were in need of a lick of paint but never one so dirty. Ruined my stay and would not recommend to anyone. Someone from higher up the chain needs a surprise visit there to see how bad it actually is.
