Only stayed 1 night bed and breakfast. Generally satisfied , staff pleasant and helpful. Room however was a little dated and en-suit although fine for myself and wife, if you were on the large side the toilet would be too close to the wall.

« It was fine but very different from other Mercure hotels I've stayed in. »

The hotel is very close to a very busy road but the room didn't have double glazing, not good if you are a light sleeper. We couldn't get access to our room due to a faulty lock but they resolved this issue with a room move in quick time. Room was spacious in every respect with a somewhat gaudy theme and no shortages of mirrors! Good TV with Freeview. Satellite TV available in the bar I think. Good wifi at all times, everywhere. Room was a long way from reception and up several flights of stairs and no lift. We were offered porterage which we declined, in hindsight this was a mistake. We used the leisure facilities , the pool was clean and warm. Not massive but absolutely fine. At the time I used it, the changing room was very wet with a soaked towel on the floor in an attempt to make it better - it hadn't worked. Steam room and sauna were a welcome addition and very good. We used the restaurant once. The tables had no table clothes and were quite rough around the edges. Polite service, reasonable menu, food was good but was top end price when including desserts and wine. Reception were always polite and helpful. Overall, I think it is a Mercure hotel in waiting. It needs a programme of refurbishment to bring it up to Mercure standard and it does need lifts. Reason for stay - our new house wasn't ready to move in to but our jobs had started so we needed to be based in the Midlands. So a family staying for school and jobs.

« My away from home for over a year. »

Your place is a bit quirky, but it’s the people that make it. I’ve been staying with you now and again for over a year. Your staff are lovely. That is why I return. When I arrive I am tired after a long journey. I have a difficult job to do sorting out my family estate. I check in, feel relaxed. On my first visit my kettle was almost lethal. I spoke to your duty manager and after his response I emailed your operations director. and I have observed the change there. There is a slap dash approach to the place. Once. your sauna and steam was out of order and the receptionist told me there was no point complaining because it won’t be fixed during my stay. I held my father's wake at your hotel, the staff were absolutely first class. I have had to revisit the area several times and I do stay at this hotel. The staff remain my favourite aspect. They do respond if things are not quite right. It’s a bit Faulty Towers, but I will continue ur to stay there as I feel at home there. Your first impressions may improve if you fixed the front door - it has not worked for over a year. It says something and you don’t seems to care. Given you seek loads of feedback, I wonder why some of my points have not been addressed in the last year. I welcome your response. Robert C.

« Brilliant short stay All inclusive break »

A really enjoyable stay really good value for what we paid. We had a room facing the main road which was a bit noisy but we soon got used to it. Free drinks from 7-11pm otherwise would have been quite dear hotel prices Tea and coffee free all day as well Easy to find hotel This break really suited us for my birthday and our anniversary all in one Fantastic.

This was an executive room and yet the was a handle missing on sink tap, room service provided two draught beers that still had the cleaning agent in the beer from the bar taps! Radiator was broken and left on full heat.

Whilst the main communal areas of the hotel were modern and inviting, it's sad that what could be a fabulous boutique hotel has been left neglected like this. The rooms that had been refurbished seemed out of kilter with the spirit of the hotel, and those that hadn't seemed sad and lacking furniture. The Leisure Centre was truly horrible and met with many key features of gothic or horror. The door was jammed where the wood had rotted and swollen, leading to a dark murky area where many light were not working. There was a general feeling of isolation as it was separated from the main hotel with no staff present. The toilet in the Ladies' was broken. Neither the lights in the Steam room nor the Sauna worked so you were left in almost total darkness, only lit by the dim light from outside. The pool itself was a good size but tiles were stained brown. The roof tiles were missing or broken, with various lights not working, and one light flickering providing ominous shadows over the entire pool. The water seemed clean but was cloudy with no obvious signs of filtering. May I congratulate the wonderful receptionist on her helpful and upbeat attitude, particularly when our original room did not match our booking, and her knowledge of the local area. Overall, I expected a hotel with the Mecure brand to be a higher level of quality. I know that the brand works hard to reflect its location, but this seems a poor representation of both the brand and the location.

Could not shut radiator down in room so consequently room too hot to sleep in. Complained at reception. Was told someone would be in touch. Heard nothing. The swimming pool would fail if inspected by local environmental health officers on a number of grounds.

« Good value. Could do with some updating in the room »

Felt the receipting area and bar lounge excellent and staff polite and help full. The room was an excellent size and on first glance looked in good order. I would say on closer expecting the carpet needs replacing as thread bear and ripped in places The bathroom was OK but not spotless. My biggest complain was the mattress on the beds. The double was lovely and big but sleeping on it was extremely uncomfortable and struggled to get a good night sleep. Would say the mattress hasn't been changed in a long time. Over all I thought was good value and main areas looked very smart. A little more attention to the rooms and you must get new mattresses. I would also suggest outside woodwork needs refurbishment or replacement. James H.

Hotel always good room good breakfast very good yet again Tina was great.One down side the sunday evening meal booked a table for 7.30 did not get to the table till 8.40 and the main course was very poor was given a free bottle of wine for the late table thank you very much not moaning about the staff Faith and Lisa were great worked very hard First time in all the years of coming to hotel to moan will still be back love the hotel and staff.
