« Clean large room, unfortunately little niggles throughout the weekend. »

The hotel room was clean and very large and airy. However from checking in to checking out constant annoying things were caused mainly by the staff. On checking in the lady forgot to take our holding payment. Our rooms were right at the end of the hotel (quite a long walk up & down steps & long corridors) a couple of minutes after we got to our rooms the lady on reception came & asked us to go all the way back to reception to take payment from our cards. An innocent mistake I am sure but still very annoying for us after travelling all morning etc. Then our names were not on the restaurant list for breakfast, again only a silly thing but embarrassing for us as it appeared we were trying to scam breakfast. The free internet code only lasted 24 hours when we were there for 2 nights & we had to ask for more codes the 2nd day. Also a double room with two occupants only has internet access for one device, so once I had set up my iPad my husband could not use the internet on any device at all? We were not very impressed with the room service, e.g. Burgers not cooked properly! Then when we had a drink in the bar the service was nonexistent! We ordered 3 drinks, I asked for no ice (it had ice), one drink came quite quickly but the other two took so long I had finished mine by the time my companions got their drinks. Then after being out visiting the area on the 2nd day our key cards didn't work & we had to go all the way back to reception again to have them rebooted. Finally on checking out both parties were given the same bill? Thankfully I noticed this and the error was rectified.

« Very dissatisfied  »

stayed at Hatfield hotel on 15/7/2017 room not ready until 14.45, hairdryer missing, no apology from unhelpful staff. Dingy thin hard towels, breakfast hard fried eggs swimming in fat, coffee and tea in flasks! Previous night stayed at the Premier Inn, As usual very happy helpful friendly staff, thick white fluffy towels, breakfast cooked to order, individual teapots, all for the cost of £41 per room plus £8.99 each for breakfast.

« Better than expected »

Very pleasantly surprised at decor, superior rooms absolutely fantastic. Could have advertised that no lift available, may cause access problems for people with mobility, visual difficulties, corridors very narrow, a wheelchair user would struggle to reach rooms. Had 2 night stay, card key., needed resetting on 2nd day, as did wifi settings. Breakfast was better on the Sunday morning than Monday, but edible. But overall experience good. Was excellent proximity to Hatfield House for the "Battle Proms" concert. Think I either dropped in a corridor or left in room my new fascinator, (238 or son & daughter in laws room 236)

« A bit like staying in an institution »

I don't want to be unfair, but my recent three night stay at the Hatfield Oak gave the impression of being a bit like being stuck in an institution. I have spent some time trying to work out why I got these feelings, since I am normally fairly tolerant of the ways different accommodation types do things. Firstly, I thought about the rooms and the general decor of the hotel - it is a bit tired and dated, but kept very clean. The hotel is being refurbished at present, so this is probably only a temporary situation. There was no disturbance caused by the refurbishment itself, so that did not lead to the feeling of being in an institution. Secondly, service and food. This is an area where there is significant room for improvement. Some staff were excellent, the majority less so. Despite being booked as Bed and Breakfast, my room number did not appear on the breakfast list all three days, but I was given breakfast anyway. The scrambled egg was watery and had bits from the cooking pan in it, the grapefruit seemed to be fermenting and had a most unpleasant fizzy taste - the staff quickly removed the bowl when it was pointed out - did not try it again on following days. Most of the rest of the breakfast items were greasy and looked like there was not much love behind their preparation. I had bar meals for two nights - the first night I had a superfood salad and chunky chips - the chips were not fully cooked, but presumably were pre-frozen and then cooked again - how can you get chips so wrong. The superfood salad was more like a stir fry on spinach leaves - very odd and not like you would normally expect for a superfood salad. The next night, when I tried to order the Thai Green Curry, the barman said in a thick accent 'No', I thought he had not heard me so tried again "Can I order a Thai Green Curry, please?" the answer again was "No" followed by "You asked if you could order a Thai Green Curry and I said No because you cannot because we do not have any". Not a normal customer friendly response. Eventually, he got onto exploring what on the menu might be suitable, when I stated I was vegetarian he suggested the Caesar Salad which I agreed to, plus french fries (they surely could not get these wrong as well?). Eventually, some soggy fries arrived - yes, they failed here, a short while later the waiter appeared to state that the kitchen "had put chicken in the salad so they were remaking it - did I like anchovies?". The third night I went out to eat. So the food and service definitely made it feel like an institution. The final factor that made it feel like an institution is the location - the A1 and service roads on one side, shrubs and housing estate on the other - so nowhere obvious to go which, when it was raining heavily gave the impression of being hemmed in. Don't think I'll be back

« Value for money  »

Overall a good value for money hotel worthy of the three star status. Our room was comfortable and clean. We wondered if some of the staff we agency staff for the weekend as they seemed unfamiliar with service standards and equipment, but nothing so terrible to warrant a poor review, we got what we paid for.

« Comfortable, clean, good value  »

Had a nice welcome on arrival. The lounge area was stylish and a nice place to meet up with friends. The bedroom was clean and the bed comfy. We were at the back of the hotel which was very quiet.

« Lovely staff, tired hotel »

Room was very tired, but lovely and clean. Needed updating and as it faced the A1m and A1001 it really needs secondary glazing to keep the traffic noise down as this made sleeping difficult. Food o.k. Nothing special.

All very good there was a slight missap with are room (there was somebody allready in there) but this was sorted straight away and we had a free drink at the bar for the inconvenience. Well done to the staff me and the wife had a good giggle over it,top marks.

« Loved the room, but needs additional sound deadening »

Stayed in a recently refurbished room, which is very nice and much better than a previous visit. The room could do with some air-conditional, especially as it faces the setting sun, so it does get hotter as the evening progresses. Otherwise, the room is awesome. The people walking past could be quieter. The Digital Freeview TV also had terrible reception, but I don't watch that much TV so I don't care much.

« Good reception staff, ok room...evening meal a disaster »

Room was "ok" at best...in need of refurbishment From ordering my evening meal it took 1hr30 mins to arrive...appreciate there was a function but the team should be prepared Food was going backwards and forwards out of the kitchen and became a bit of a joke for the customers... The staff seemed very young and inexperienced....no fault of their own but need some more direction and training During the evening the fire alarm went off...I see from other reviews this is an on going problem...it shouldn't be! Receptionists were nice and wifi was strong throughout the hotel (which is always good news!)

« Middling  »

The hotel generally was fine and the staff very friendly, although not all were experienced bar tenders. e.g. Bitter shandy made with Bitter Beer and SODA WATER!! The single major black mark was the very poor meal served at the pre-arranged dinner for the Allard Owner's Club

« My Small children were treated well! »

Staff was friendly and accomodating, The morning front Desk Manager, Marie was extremely attentive to our needs, seeing that we traveled from America and drove from Gatwick, our rooms were ready for an early check in. Caroline, the bar tender offered my children water and cookies after their long journey. The Breakfast was lovely! Dinner smelled great! Staff very attentive, Patrons relaxed. Rooms and bathrooms were clean. Park walking distance for my little ones to enjoy. Made use of the electric kettle for tea and biscuits in the evening. Would recommend this hotel to my family and friends!

Stayed two nights to attend funeral, upgrade works going on did not disturb us. Noise from traffic if windows open and shower could been better. Paid for breakfast first day, plenty of choice. Over all a good experience

« Paint smells , hot room and uncomfortable bed made for a uncomfortable stay »

There was some refurb work going on. Whilst I was aware of this when booking it did state that there would be none at the weekend. However there was some ongoing work done this weekend and our room smelled strongly of paint. The key card worked 1 times out of 10 and we had to stand around trying it until we got in the room. The bed was 2 beds pushed Together which were ridiculously soft and felt like the springs had gone. Upon checking out the receptionist tried to charge us for a breakfast for Saturday which we hadn't had. We only had a pre paid breakfast Today.

« Comfortable stay and staff always friendly and helpful  »

As regular users at this hotel , it is always a good and comfortable experience . However the bathrooms are in desperate need of upgrading and need attention and the rooms badly need new net curtains etc .
