Dining room not open.........had to go out after a 6 hour journey. No TV remote control again. Only towels for 1 person again

« Disappointing »

The room was tired andnhad no heating in tje room or bathroon on the coldest night of the year so far. The shower sprayed water all over the ceiling as the fitting was leaking. The water ended up all over the floor and I had to paddle in it to shave. This was most unpleasant, especially as there was no heating!

« One night stay for business »

Lovely hotel and staff. Quiet. Restaurant nice ambience. Food good. Will certainly use again (if I can get the same price) out of preference.

Towels in bathroom was yellow. Bed too soft at head end when laying down my feet were higher than my head. Black mark in bath.

« Weekend Stay »

I only stay at this Hotel because of it's location. I have family living in Penkridge. I have stayed many times before. I always give the same feedback and I see similar feedback when I read the reviews! Food is great, staff are friendly but the bedrooms need a great deal of work. I was given one of the rooms that has had a makeover, well really this means decorated and then only the bedroom area. The bathroom is still shabby, dirty and in need of gutting.

« Very disappointed that the pool was not open and hadn’t been since March »

As above very disappointed that there was not a pool . Following a long business trip I specifically selected the hotel based on the fact that a pool was advertised

« Disappointing »

The hotel was virtually empty, more staff than guests. The room was freezing cold on arrival on a snowy freezing night. Remedied of course when WE turned the radiator on. There was ONE set of towels for two guests. When I went to reception for the towels, the young lady asked if the remote for the TV was in the room as they often disappeared!!!!. I didn't know but when I returned to the room there was NO remote. The next morning when I needed to use the hairdryer it was not working......another visit to reception When we checked out the "new receptionist " asked whether everything was Ok. When we pointed out our problems she didn't attempt to apologise, but said they were short staffed. Surely "housekeeping" should check the rooms when they make them up, and when few rooms are occupied they shouldn't have a problem

« A good place to stay »

A nice friendly place to stay, my only gripe is if your are a Accor member they never send the update about your stay so no points or nights added, hence having to email Accor each time a copy of my invoice.

« Very basic and old hotel »

Good location but not serviced well. We were in family room with only one towel and one small shampoo. Asked for more. They just gave one more towel and just throw it on top of the bath but not folding or hanging. The cover sheets were on the ground in hallway to be replaced later which doesn't seem to be very clean way. The staff didn't know about check out time and asked us to leave at 11 am although our confirmation email was for 12. Manager later confirmed that it is 12 on weekends.

« Dismal stay »

Tired, dismal, cold room. Uninterested staff. Paid £10 for breakfast which is about £10 over priced. Found out after staying that it doesn't participate in the loyalty program - not surprised as you'd be hard pushed to be loyal to this establishment. Breakfast was poor. I gave my room number and was left to find my own table. I sat at one that, I was told when I checked out, was not set for breakfast. Another guest found me a cup and saucer when she found one. Toast came with no butter or plate. My tea took an age to arrive. Buffet selection limited and poor. I didn't want a cooked breakfast, just had porridge. Breakfast disturbed by loud noises from the kitchen and shouting. The duty manager, as I checked out, was not interested at all. I can see why Accor would be embarrassed to include this hotel in their loyalty programme.

« Staff are amazing but don't eat the food »

The staff could not have been more helpful and polite but the food was dismal. I had two breakfasts and one dinner at the hotel and there were no redeeming features about the food. Overcooked, rubbery and as for the eggs benedict... curry mayonnaise??

« OK, but better places for cheaper! »

Was just ok. Place in bit of disrepair, no control on bathroom radiator, bottom of chair broken etc. Breakfast was good. Most of staff were good, but a blonde receptionist wasn't as helpful as she could have been. Asked for iron etc, she got me it when had my hands full and just set against wall for me so was up and down to room. Also told me wrong checkout time. No swimming pool anymore, bit of a letdown.

« Disappointed there was no pool after booking on the website which said there was! »

Friendly helpful staff. Room a little dated yet comfortable. Good shower. Good parking. Once we arrived along the lane to the hotel we overshot the entrance as the sign was only visable from 1 direction & the back of it had no writing on it. Could be clearer. Felt sorry for the staff having to deal with explaining to us why there was no pool when the website we booked on had allowed me to use the filter to choose a hotel with a pool. Had I known there was no pool I would not have booked this hotel as it was part of the treat for my son. Very disappointed & will now have to question all bookings made online with Accor as feel they cannot be trusted.

« Facilities not as described on the Accor website »

Located along a narrow lane, easy to miss the entrance as it's only signed from one direction. Good car park, acessible entrance for wheelchair users. Friendly helpful staff. The pool is no longer in use despite still appearing as part of the facility on the website. Bathroom a little dated yet good shower so adequate.

Dear Sue W Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel, and I'm pleased you enjoyed your stay. We will look into the signage as currently this is only visible when approaching the hotel from the main road. The swimming pool has not been advertised on ours or Mercure Hotels website for some considerable time.

Breakfast, the staff were not welcoming, i think more training on customer relations need doing,I had to ask for coffee whilst at my table and then no milk was given, I had to ask for milk, there was a lack of butter for toast, and a shortage of plates for the hot food, The corridors to our bedroom had been recently painted, the smell of paint was awful

Found the hotel good and the staff pleasant, my only down side which is nothing to do with the hotel and its facilities was that I had to personally contact Accor due to no update on points and days added to my account

« Never again »

Spent a night at this hotel, booked in April because they had a swimming pool. However, when we got there was told it had been closed for a month but room was discounted! Room was just above reception, facing front which seems to have been one of the better rooms. Would of hated to get one with the stained glass windows to hide the bad view at the back. However, this room was Very Very Dark. Also you could hear the music below you upto 12.30 (luckily we went to a wedding elsewhere so was back about 12 but if you wanted to sleep earlier you would have had a problem. It's not to the standard that you expect from Accor and am glad I've been to others otherwise I wouldn't go to their hotels from this example! only 1 towel/toiletries/tea spoon and tea left for us, took 2 hours for the missed items to appear (after 2 phonecalls). Part of curtain was off the rail but we fixed this ourselves, at least check the rooms before you let guests stay. Don't mention the shower and how poor the condition of the room looked. It could be lovely if it had money put into it!! Breakfast was nice but then only 6 rooms were used that night. I wonder why??

« Good for a one night stay. »

We were in room 110, first appearance was clean and tidy. On looking around the room it was actually in need of a bit of TLC/redecoration. There are patches on the wall where 2 pictures hung and the carpet may need a deep clean. The bathroom need a good overhaul decour wise, rough wood work and a paint job would help. The toilet seat was yellow around the edges, please throw it away and get a new one also the toilet is not fixed securely to the floor. Could do with more tea, coffee and milk. The rest of the hotel was a little tired but clean and tidy. The staff were helpful and polite, thankyou. Good breakfast selection, no problems with that. Your road side signage needs to be more obvious as we missed it coming out of the town, on turning round we didn't see any signage at all until we got onto the drive way.
