« We love this place and it's staff »

We have to admit that it is the discounted offers from Mercure that bring us to this place over and over again, but we must add that the reasons for choosing Madeley C. are many. It has a sunning location. As if Ironbridge and all it's historical interest is not enough the hotel reeks of history and is set in a beautiful location. Our last visit before this one did not have the best of food experiences, but this latest one returned things to the standard we have come to expect. Rooms 44 and 45 to which we were assigned are perhaps some of the worst in the hotel, since previous experience bringing our dog has taught us that these arte the 'dog owner's rooms', hence the upgrade for the friends which we had recommended to come with us on this visit was very welcome. Our thanks, and compliments, to Nina for facilitating the upgrade, and the two cleaners who assisted in this Ann and Julie. Like many of the staff we have come to know at Madeley C., they were friendly and helpful without having to be tipped. The old hotel is in need of some 'TLC' in the maintenance department. One socket in room 44 is not enough, and we had to borrow an extension lead, when the old trouser press outlet could so easily have been changed for an extra socket. Look after this place. It is worth it.

« Poor will not stay there again »

Stayed for two nights on business trip. Offered the smallest room in the hotel without a desk, had to sit on the bed to work. Windows would not shut, had to be tied with wires and strings. On one window the string was broken and the window remind permanently open, thankfully it was not too cold outside. No headboard on bed, pillows resting directly on stone wall, not comfortable. Toilet flush did not work properly, no hot water for a long time on one evening got delayed for a meeting. For dinner ordered Pizza in the bar did not get served for 45 minutes. Very polite and apologetic staff but no action. overall a poor experience, will not stay there again.

« We enjoyed it but were not impressed by it. »

We liked the setting and we loved the house. It was nearly very good but misses the mark with small things which add up. The room was well presented and nice. Room 22. Staff were courteous on arrival but not attentive, there's a difference. The bar was deserted, a tv was on......., a table had glasses and bits left on it. It was not welcoming. It could have been. There were other little lounges which were nicer, we wished we'd gone in there but that's a reflection of the bar. The dining room was disappointing. Not many diners so scattered round the edges. Tea lights nice. One lady on duty and not there when we arrived. After a minute or two we seated ourselves. The door to the kitchen area was open and we could hear kitchen sounds. The CD player was also through the door and was of poor quality so was "thin/tinny", more like a cafe standard. Worse, the opening cd was percussive/Rap.........the demographic certainly did not look like this was their genre of choice.......it wasn't ours. We thought it was coming from the kitchen at first and asked for it to be turned down! As mood music in a restaurant it was a wholly inappropriate choice. The whole effect was amateurish and downmarket. BUT the food was pretty good........what a pity the experience did not match it. Breakfast in the same room was a scrum. Placed on a middle table amongst the guests from the wedding of the previous day the room was noisy and bustling (unsurprisingly). The guests acted as if it was their domain, understandably since so many of them were there and chatting loudly, milling and taking their leave. I was jostled and some self service of crockery, cutlery and milk was required! The waitresses were not equal to it and a steering oversight of the room was missing. Non wedding guests should have been clustered and protected at the very least. So, nothing disastrous but where we might have returned if these "tweaks" had taken place and the experience matched the surroundings we probably won't (even though it's a favourite area and we have stayed in Shrewsbury and Ludlow many times). The information about the house is interesting though the representation of the Dissolution of the Manasteries is inaccurate!!! This is meant to be helpful, not unpleasant!!!

« Will not be back »

Having read previous reviews, I was left somewhat disappointed with my stay. I was given the world smallest room, which had no shower (Only a bath), which was the least of my problems as there was no hot water, and I don't mean the hot water had ran out, I mean there was no water running from the hot tap. I had to bathe in a bath of cold water, no other option was available. The central heating system was so loud I had to borrow some ear plugs from work to enable me to sleep at night. And the final straw was the computer systems went down so I was unable to check out, I am still awaiting my VAT receipt some five days later.

The room was very small and cramped. The shower was attached to the taps which made it very difficult to shower effectively., hardly a shower a I would say! The noise from the central heating made it impossible to sleep, for the second night I had to sue ear plugs to drown out the noise. On the second night there was no water, the toilet wax unusable and I could not even refreshen up. I asked to be moved was told hotel was full. I would have made a complaint on checking out, but the girl on reception was so stressed because the IT system had failed and she could not even provide me with a VAT receipt.

« Good on the outside... »

Amazing building on the outside. Tired and unloved on the inside. Why not have all the uneven spiral stairs levelled off, and tighten up the rope banister? Give all the wood surfaces a lick of oil or wax. Some of the young bar staff not trained properly. Shortage of clean glasses, untidy behind the bar, uncleared tables - food plates, glasses, trays etc. Breakfast staff very friendly and professional.

« Nice old and quaint including some aspects of customer service »

Nice hotel and grounds. Pleasant location close to Ironbridge gorge. Let down by unable to accommodate dietary requirements- was told that as I had not alerted staff on check in I could not have any soya milk - Really??? In 2017. 2007 maybe but not 2017. Shame as took edge of a nice stay.

« Bed was comfortable »

Stayed for a family wedding. The fridge had broken in the main bar near to reception and was poured warm white wine. When I queried no apology just informed fridge had broken. Charged full price, staff appeared to have no comprehension how to serve the drink. Hadn't booked breakfast but decided to take it. Informed by receptionist I didn't have to book just turn up (card was charged to room). I sat with the bride and groom and was then challenged by a member of staff at the table waving a guest list under my nose telling me I wasn't on the list. On entering the restaurant I had informed a different member of staff that I hadn't prebooked and had provided her with my details. Didn't really expect to feel like a criminal in front of the bridal party !! Wedding party was good and staff on that bar provided a good service. Bathroom hadn't been cleaned well dust at least a week old.

« From Fawlty Towers to a damp smelly room »

Very poor accommodation, damp and smelly outside the room as they were digging up the pipes in the corridor to an equally smelly damp room (even the towels were dame). Poor cleaning (god knows what I scraped up off the bathroom floor. Staff ignoring our do not disturb sign on our room. No staff in the bar and having to go through to reception who had to repeatedly phone to get some. The bar itself was a mess and hadn't been restocked meaning that customers had to wait for things like lemon in their G and T. We waited 20mins for a decaf coffee as it took 10 mins to get the coffee and then another 10mins because he forgot the milk. No where to store my bike dispite email ahead and being told it is fine. The Lakeside outside seating area should be lovely but it is small and completely overgrown either side of the fence. Witnessing a nember of staff losing his temper (David) in a public area to completely disinterested staff throughout - it was farcical. It was all very poor and I wouldn't recommend Madeley Court to anyone. It needs direction and money spent on it. It is criminal how such a lovely building has been allowed to get in this state. Words completely failed my at times.

« Below expectations »

We had to wait at least ten minutes to check in at reception while the receptionist took a long telephone call about a wedding booking. At no point did she make eye contact with us to apologise. We also waited in the bar in the evening before anyone turned up to serve us, and again, the following morning when we went down to breakfast. We were also woken at 2 am by the fire alarm which rang for a couple of minutes and was then switched off. The hotel was not busy but I should imagine it will be even quieter if that is the best service that they can manage.

« Miss »

My partner and I found the hotel's exterior to be very attractive. Unfortunately, we found the rooms to be unacceptable for the price that we paid. The room, number 36, smelt damp and felt grotty. By the last morning, we had run out of toilet roll but thankfully we were checking out; I had expected the room to be cleaned, towels and toilet roll to be replenished delay but this did not happen. Breakfast on the first morning was very disappointing; I ordered eggs benedict but I had to have it on toast because there were no muffins. Additionally, no ham was served with this. I was unable to raise this issue with the serving staff because they were busy. Overall, I found the hotel, for the price we paid, very disappointing and I won't be recommending to any friends or family in he future,

« Very nice Hotel »

Mercure Telford is a beautiful hotel in a very old House in a very nice place with a beautiful lake and a beautiful nature. My room was very pleasant, large, very clean, with beautiful meubles. The bathroom was also very large. The restaurant was also very nice with a menu proposing various dishes. Beautiful bar with a view on the lake. Very nice welcome. It was really a very nice stay

« Amazing hotel, great staff »

Ours was an overnight stay following a friends wedding at the hotel. the rooms was excellent with more extras (complimentary toiletries/towelling robes) than we expected for the price. The only (very small)issues we had weres that the heating pipes went through the room, and although the heating was off there was still a fair amount of heat coming from the pipes making the room slightly uncomfortable, and at breakfast the plates for the buffet were cold meaning that the hot food went cold quite quickly (I had the kippers which were amongst the best I have ever eaten and coming straight from the kitchen were very hot!)

« Mixed experience »

Overall a little mixed. A problem reported about one of the beds was not dealt with and we had to improvise to resolve it. Restaurant staff were pleasant and the food was well prepared and adequate. Room was OK though we thought the bathroom was a little "tired".
