« Lovely Hotel »

We had a super stay in your hotel, there were a few small hiccups, a wine list in the dining room is a must rather than being asked would you like red, white or rose. I arrived in a wheelchair due to a broken foot and was offered a first floor room, I was asked if I could manage the stairs. Doh! No. Apart from that the front desk staff were very helpful as was the waiting staff. I would definitely stay here again.

Our stay was very enjoyable however, although the staff were very friendly and helpful, we did feel that some of them lacked a little of the professionalism as befits a 16th century manor hotel. This we feel being due to the fact they had not received sufficient training. To be fair, in some cases, they simply did not have the amount of staff available to do the job. Small, but important points we noticed were a) ashtrays not being emptied on a daily basis b) the glass tables both in the conservatory and the verandah were sticky and smeary - even when wiped they remained not overly clean. Trays of dirty glasses remained visible during our whole stay. We had the Gallery room, which was beautiful but a few offputting points were, the toilet bowl needed bleaching, and the basin tap surrounds and basin surround itself needed a deep clean, even a proper dusting of everywhere would have helped. Again, not wanting to sound overly critical, as we suspect the cleaning staff are not given too much time in between guests to really do a thorough job - not their fault.

No wardrobes or any other kind of hanging space in the bedroom - so not ideal if you have any clothes with you. This is the first time I've seen that in a hotel. Also room was quite dirty: cobwebs, carpet not hoovered and stains on the bathroom door frame, which was surprising as previous guests appear to have been reported similar issues. Lovely looking buildings in a nice setting though.

« A lovely hotel - enjoyed the stay but a few improvements needed. »

We enjoyed the stay - one or two housekeeping/maintenance problems with the room but youy reception were advised and said they would follow up. The evening meal was very nice - both on presentation and taste. I have already praised the poor waitress who was on her own in the restaurant all evening. She remained calm and pleasant throughout. She should not have been on her own and the management must take responsibility for some problems arising. No wine list was available and the poor girl had to remember all the wines with no descriptions or prices given! Surely someone could type up a temporary list if a stock change was being done? Little things such as water being brought but no glasses, no bread rolls being offered... All in all we would dine here again but management please listen to this as constructive critisisum and up your game.

Obviously recently refurbished. Room big but view from window was gable end wall of other wing. No air con on very hot day. 30 minute plus wait for dinner. Breakfast buffet was good. Staff friendly.

overall my stay was better than expected, prior to arriving my view of the customer service from the reception staff was very low as the phone was never answered and they took ages to reply to emails. I had to change the type of room booking and it was a slow painful process to do so. On arrival the receptionist was surly, we said we had a booking in my name, and all she replied was oh yes that will be £260, no mention of did we have a nice journey and also she quoted the rate for the originally booked room not the changed one! we also had to go back to get internet voucher as she didn't offer that as we checked in, and in fact had to go back again to get a second one so we could use both our devices. why oh why did she not just offer this straight away? However the receptionist on duty the next day (sunday) was much nicer, smiley friendly and helpful. the staff in the breakfast room on sunday morning were rather inexperienced but service was ok, much improved breakfast service on Monday morning with more mature staff. we were there for a wedding and the young man who was the wedding organiser was very helpful and the bar/ serving staff working for the wedding were also pleasant. Our room was big enough and the bathroom was as required. It was clean enough but not 100% so ... lots o debris on floor behind bed head which we discovered while trying to find the switch for bedside light and back of bathroom door panels were distinctly grubby. I would have been nice to have had a toilet brush. we were also sharing the room with lots of big spindly spiders

Staff very helpful, allowed us to move from room 8 which was small and without a shower to room 10 which was much bigger, very atmospheric do the timber beams and ...the all important shower. Half board basis and the food and service at all sittings was superb, very attentive and polite serving staff.

I had to move rooms because the air-conditioning and t in the bathroom was so noisy. I was given a family room. The bed was very comfortable. To make a hot drink I had to take the kettle to the only power points which were at the other side of the room. I had to put the kettle on the glass topped dressing table and make my drink there. The edges of the carpet round the skirting had not been vacuumed. The skirting boards and the doors were dirty. Your cleaners need to be better trained and supervised. The bathroom floor had a large crack across it. The breakfast was good as was the service in the breakfast room.I am not sure if I would stay at one of your hotels again.

The setting was lovely and the old building was full of character. Overall the staff were very friendly, especially the dining room staff who worked tirelessly. We arrived early as we made better time than we thought. The lady would not book us in and did not offer to sore our luggage. We came back later to book in and was only given 1 keycard as they had run out! The 1st room offered was spacious but poorly finished off ie carpet not continued into wardrobe, damage to window catches, bath panel etc. .Shower was hit and miss and nearly scalded at times and the towels were less than generous in size. Coffee was limited and no more available when requested as they were expecting a delivery. This is the first hotel I have stayed in that didn't provide biscuits which was a disappointment. I got a very poor sleep, partial because of the lack of insulation between the rooms and also the bed was uncomfortable. The next morning we asked for a change and were given the lovely Courtyard Room which was lovely and full of character. Breakfast on the first morning was lovely but was lacking on the 2nd, although we didn't say anything as the lovely ladies were run off their feet. As a setting it was lovely. Would we go back....I very much doubt it unless it is updated and the housekeeping improved.

Good after an initial bad start. First a room with a bed that creaked loudly when sat or laid upon., then moved to a room with 5 beds, so hardly any room to move. Finally moved to room 9 in the main building and everything went exceedingly well. Thank you.

On arrival, Reception was in turmoil as all the systems had gone down and there were wires everywhere with much work being done, but we were given our key and made our way to room 27 in East Wing. The room was fine, but when we asked for more coat hangers in Reception, these were promised but never arrived. We met our friends for a drink on the bar terrace with a view overlooking the lake, which was fine, but our disabled friend found walking over the newly - laid stone chippings very difficult. The dining room in the evening was a nice setting, but a single typed sheet for the Table d'hote menu was unimpressive. When we asked for the Wine List we were told that there wasn't one, but 'what wines did we like'! We selected a Merlot with no idea of price. Having said that, the food was good, and the service friendly. Each time we returned to the hotel, we found that our room key did not work and had to be reprogrammed at Reception - annoying to say the least. The shower over the bath in our room 27 poured out very hot water and could not be adjusted. We reported this to Reception the first morning where the Maintenance Man was working. He said he would look at it while we were out. It remained unfixed for the rest of our 3 day stay. Breakfasts on the first two mornings were excellent, overseen with great efficiency by an older, hugely experienced waitress, who also gave us lots of information about local places to visit. However, with two weddings going on, there was a big influx of guests and the small dining room could not cope with the numbers on our last morning (Saturday). We were put in a side room, and the table was re-laid. The young waitress was excellent and, although under great pressure, ensured that we got everything we wanted. The staff were all under great pressure, with more drafted in to help, and they did a splendid job trying to cope in a cheerful way. The Dining Room, though spectacular, is clearly inadequate for a hotel with fifty rooms. The image of the hotel was not enhanced by the Housekeepers wheeling round replacement items in a Tesco food trolley! Overall, the staff did a great job, but were lacking in experience in some areas. More staff with more training would greatly improve the hotel's efficiency.

I was looking for a different experience close to town but not congested, found it at Madely Court near Iron Bridge. You may need to be get used to kneeling in the bath to get a shower and the floor creeks above you, but they don't charge top rates for these extras, love the 16th century spiral stair case (!)

Arrived, last minute booking. Was assigned Room 41. Sent from reception with key card and arrived to the room which was unsecured as the door frame and key card lock was smashed. A Yale key has been retrofitted. I returned for the Yale key what was in the reception desk drawer. Complained second time as the room had not been vacuumed. I was told there were no other rooms available because of a wedding so I couldn’t be moved. Manager (f) said that head of housekeeping had reported all rooms were fine. Her manner was defensive and rude. She only backed down when other guests approached the reception desk. Initially refused a refund. Then said she could refund 50% and I leave. Then she said I could stay and she would credit me £50 which I reluctantly agreed to after a long day traveling. She sent a lovely lady with a vacuum. This lady said she wasn’t even a cleaner and room 41 was the second room she’d had to remedy that day. There weren’t any bulbs in ANY of the lamps. This was also sorted. I waited for the ‘cleaner’ and let her in but left her to it and left the hotel. After leaving the hotel whilst the room was cleaned I was called by the manager on her mobile 07…03 she asked ME for the room key as they couldn’t find the spare and had locked themselves out. Whilst she was on the call to me at 5.35pm she appeared to find the spare key. Returned to the hotel around 8pm. Stayed the night and then left as soon as possible the following morning. Will not return. £50 credit not enough to make up for this ghastly experience.
