« Fabulous Service, Wonderful Potential With a Couple Tweaks »

We were visiting from the States and stayed for six nights. We have stayed at the Madeley Court several times over the years and will definitely stay again. All of the staff -- from reception to bar host to cleaning team -- are always so kind and welcoming. We finally honed in on the room we need to ask for -- "a Superior Double" -- in order to assure a step in shower. A few tweaks that I would recommend: 1) Brighten the reception/lobby area with more lighting. This manor home had to have been grand in its day. One should feel this grandeur when you walk in. 2) Make an ice and vending machine room available to guests. 3) Possibly consider having small refrigerators that folks could pay several extra pounds a day to have put in their room. My husband has medications that he needs to keep "refrigerated"; so, though the staff were so helpful in either putting it back and forth in the fridge or getting us ice, we would have preferred to be a bit more independent in our ability to manage this need. 3) Put safes in at least the Superior Double rooms.

The hotel is quietly situated and the double rooms are a very good size. All I need is quiet and a comfy bed and that's what I get at Madeley Court. Sometimes I eat in the hotel and the food is good but sometimes I like to eat out so don't always stay for dinner. And of course the hotel is nice to look at. The staff have been helpful during my multiple stays and service has been good. Thanks Ros

« Beautiful grounds and buildings but rooms not up to scratch and dirty. »

Gorgeous hotel and grounds. We were initially very impressed. Staff not always on reception and we waited a while to check-in. Struggled with all our luggage trying to get out of the big heavy reception door - no member of staff helped. Just watched. Our room was dirty. Very dusty and hadn’t been hoovered thoroughly. Plug in the sink didn’t work and furniture tired and worn. Breakfast was lovely and so was our drinks overlooking the lake at the rear of the hotel. We didn’t pay a fortune for our room but we would have expected it to be clean.

My room was dark with no mirror except in the bathroom. Money needs to be spent remodelling the bathrooms as it is unacceptable to offer rooms without decent showers in the 21st century. My radiator was noisy, and you have some living in the loft..... it scurries! Tried to call reception to complain and ask to move rooms, but nobody answered on my 3 attempts! You are very understaffed, and we waited over an hour for food on every occasion we ate. Left as soon as possible, as was not a comfortable break.

Room disgusting, filthy dirty, worn, ripped carpets, red hot as heating on constantly. Shower only runs red hot. I have pictures to send you as I will be forming an official complaint. Noise from room walking around upstairs was far too noisy, I know it’s an old building but it’s a hotel - the main purpose is to be able to sleep!!

Interesting and cosy old hotel with welcoming hotel staff (although needed more staff to provide the service that should be expected as such a hotel). Would stay again but would expect the staff numbers to be increased. The hotel is set in a nice location with plenty of things to do locally. We used then restaurant for two evenings dinners, which was very well presented but the menu was the same for both evenings. We went out for the third evening to a local restaurant. The bathroom was nice but lacked towel rials and place to put wash bag etc. Biggest problem was mould due to no extract fans not being installed within the bathroom, causing extreme condensation and therefore mould growth in the upper wall areas of the bathroom. This needs to be addressed to meet the hotel standard, maintenance and guest experience. This would be the main reason we would not use the hotel again, our friends commented on the same problem in their room also.

My stay was not the best. The room i had paid £108 (Not a small amount) was very very small which needed me to duck/crouch down to get around the room, the hatch next to radiator was off the wall and could see into the roof meaning no heat in the room whatsoever even with the radiators on. There was a wedding going on on the night which seemed to take priority over other guests and the noise from the party was heard well into the night eventually turning the music off around 12:30 am meaning my daughter could sleep.

Nice room, however it was very dusty in places. The top of the four poster bed has a yellow balloon on it and is very dusty! Clearly the cleaner doesn't look on the top of the bed.. Comfortable bed, slept well the Friday night. Didn't sleep well the Saturday night due to a very loud wedding reception which was happening below our room (Oriel). We needed to be up at 06:30 the Sunday morning, I had to ring down to the reception at midnight to ask when the music would stop, they told me 01:00. I explained that I needed to be up early and the man on the phone said he would speak to the management. The music was eventually stopped at 0:30. In the morning when checking out, I explained the situation to the receptionist, who took £58 off my bill and apologised. I understand that the venue is popular for weddings, but it would make sense to not place other guests in the same part of the hotel as the wedding/wedding reception, especially if the celebration would be finishing late at night! More organisation with placing guests in rooms would be suitable in this case..

Good hotel but a few small issues management needs to sort. On arrival nobody in reception for 5+ minutes we waited together with another couple. 4 empty glasses we requested were delivered to our table in one hand with finger inside the glasses. At breakfast the waitress stopped serving breakfast and carried logs through the dinning room and set and lit the fire then returned to attending to serving. -very unusual!! I have the overall impression the hotel is understaffed and some training issues require managements attention.
