« It was overall a good experience. »

We were supposed to be able to check in at 2pm however our room wasn't ready till 3.30. We had specified a twin room but after our wait was offered a double room. Another room found for us. We would have liked biscuits in our room and had to request tea bags . There was a wedding party which made it awkward for us to use the bar. We felt uncomfortable. There were no bar snacks which we would have liked. The evening meal was excellent and our waitress was attentive but breakfast was dried out and it was a very small selection. We were using a gift voucher which included breakfast. If we had paid out of our pockets for breakfast we would have asked for our money back.

My husband and I, my daughter and her partner and child and my friends all thoroughly enjoyed our stay last weekend. The food was excellent, the staff were friendly and a special mention for Lesley at breakfast on Sunday who really looked after everybody so efficiently.

The buildings are superficially very interesting. However our room was very small and very tired, especially the bathroom. Bed comfortable. Coffee tray adequate. Breakfast was nothing special.

Comfortable bed in a warm room, better food than most hotels we have used, great staff. Honestly could not fault anything, but I guess some may moan that room, especially en suite decor needs a little tidy-up. Nothing terrible.

This was a late anniversary present, we wanted to stay somewhere a little different!! We made a excellent choice stayed one the Gallery room, great atmosphere lovely food and friendly staff especially Tommy in the bar and restaurant and Conor in the bar and on reception - great choice!

Lovely site, lovely staff etc, we enjoyed our stay. Being picky there were a few small things that would have made it fantastic! a) the room was FREEZING when we arrived. We put it right by putting the electric radiators on full for an hour, however having just one on low in expectation of our stay would have been better. b) shower was too cold to use - had a bath instead c) lovely meal, but our nice bottle of red was spoiled by being very cold - shame, made it taste average. d) thought £4.95 for an espresso was a bit steep - I am a coffee snob, but the coffee was weak, cheap and bitter too. New coffee type or an overhaul of the machine required. Our main grip however was that we asked on arrival about breakfast in bed, and followed the advice to put out the order card for the night porter. It was not collected, we had to change our plans and go down for breakfast where the seating and service was VERY slow - we were a bit forgotten. It all felt a bit average.

Hotel was on the whole great, however the room itself left a little to be desired. An electric socket wasn't working and they seemed to be positioned in odd places relative to the bed. There were no pictures on the wall despite hooks being still there and despite turning the radiator off completely there's still a massive amount of heat given off by the large diameter pipe around the bedroom.

My room was dirty and looked as if it hadn't been cleaned for a long time. Staff were slow at evening meal service (despite there only being our table and two others in). Colleagues and I stayed for three nights and the food was served differently each night (despite ordering the same thing). Staff told us "it depends on the chef", which isn't good for the brand or consistency of a menu. Breakfast was better; however, we were heckled down the corridor for our room number by the member of staff on, instead of waiting until we got up to her. We also felt pressured into making a breakfast decision before we'd even got to our table. Overall, really disappointed with the stay and I wouldn't rush back.

first arrived the room was unclean & had to ask several times for this to be sorted, had to go find staff when we wanted to be served at the bar, big party in late one evening upstairs which disturbed us at 3am

We booked for the New Year’s Eve package, the room was fine, a little tired and in need of some refurbishment, the food was really good, however the service was very slow and felt that the team didn’t really know what they were doing, but polite, the bar was not great in the venue as they didn’t have wine and our drinks although the same round each time were charged at different prices, after pointing this out we were refunded 10.00. Disappointed the band only did 1 set, the disco was good and a great atmosphere at the end of the evening where we all had a sing along that was supported by one of the managers, sorry I didn’t get his name, but he was really good to let us stay.

« Wonderful location. Some great historic rooms but a lot needs upgrading especially heating »

Some beautiful historic buildings/rooms. The bar is extremely disappointing and lacking in atmosphere & design and does not fit with the overall grandeur of the hotel. Some areas needs urgent upgrading especially Heating ! Full English breakfast was good and the staff very friendly. Some additional investment could bring this up to a very good standard.

Having stayed here for a wedding we found The carpet in our room was badly stained and in need of changing the ceiling and tiles in the bathroom were mouldy the room was dusty. Plates at breakfast were dirty and looked as though they had been just rinsed not washed, we did get cleaned plates. The overall stay was very disappointing.

We arrived for the New Years Eve Party, our rooms were lovely, warm and welcoming. The New Years Eve Party was in a building called the Mill which is in the grounds of the main Hotel, the tables were beautifully set with all the usual part accompaniments and the meal was excellent- the young Staff are very professional and nothing was too much trouble and they looked as if they were enjoying their evenings work which in this day and age is somewhat unusual. Our Champagne throughout the evening made our choice of stay perfect.

A group of 10 booked a New Years Eve package, the hotel was chaotic, the staff undertrained, poor service, mediocre disco, no advertised firework display, combined with reception trying to charge guests who had prepaid.

AN ENJOYABLE TIME WAS HAD BUT THE ROOM MAINTENANCE SERVICE - IN THE COURTYARD - COULD HAVE BEEN IMPROVED. THE SHOWER HOSE IN THE BATHROOM WAS CONSISTENTLY RUNNING WITH WATER THROUGHOUT THE WHOLE TIME. THE FAULT WAS REPORTED TO RECEPTION STRAIGHT AWAY, AFTER CHECKING IN + WHEN MENTIONING IT AGAIN A COUPLE OF TIMES AND ON CHECKING OUT IT SEEMED THAT THE MAINTENANCE STAFF WERE WAITING FOR PARTS! IT WOULD HAVE BEEN THOUGHTFUL TO INFORM US OF THE SITUATION ON ARRIVAL RATHER THAN AT THE END. THERE WAS NO SIGN THAT THE MAINTENANCE STAFF EVEN CAME TO THE ROOM TO CHECK THE PROBLEM WHILST WE WERE THERE. THE REFRESHMENT CADDY WAS RATHER SPARCE WITH ABOUT 3 TEABAGS - NO ASSORTMENT - 3/4 MILK , NO BISCUITS.
