Easy access hotel in the Telford area for business trips

The hotel was easy to find and access from the motorway. The access road has some very large pot holes which need to be fixed. They are dangerous. Check in was simple. Halloween decorations were very tacky - they do not reflect the Mercure brand. The bedroom was OK - a bit tired - but comfortable. There was no hot water in the shower (room 23) and I reported it the first day but it wasn't fixed on the second day and I was not offered a room change. Disappointing.

Great location fot the Ironbridge visits, lovely from the outside, staff helpful and polite, but the room was badly in need of a complete refit, and wasn't as clean as one would expect

Cold room marred stay

Not a particularly cold day in October yet the courtyard bedroom was freezing. Having had the available heating on all night, the room was just about warm in the morning. Normally, I go into a hotel bedroom and turn off the radiator because it's far too hot! It would have been nice if the heating had been put on before we arrived so the room was not so cold. I appreciate that these rooms may be cold because they have more than one outside wall but there are ways for the hotel to alleviate this situation. I wouldn't contemplate staying here between November and February as a result. It's a shame because otherwise it was a reasonable hotel for a good price.

Enjoyed the stay but the room was sadly lacking in electrical socket availability. Only one double socket and one side of that didn't work. The drive surface up to the hotel was horrendous with many potholes and only single track so impossible to avoid them.

The stay was ok, bed was slanty and staff were to busy vaping and or chatting with each other. This hotel needs some serious renovations. The buildings are very charming, but I don’t want to sit at the bar for an hour without being served. That said staff are nice, but are just lazy and don’t really want to do their jobs.

After booking, I expected an email confirming the booking and it never came. I called and left messages for someone to call me and was promised i would get a call back to no avail. One of my calls just got cut off. We arrived on friday and I went to complain that the room wasn't warm enough. staff lied that the heating would come on in the room when it wasn't even working. We told the receptionist who was on the next day and even he lied that he would send someone to check it out. Room was cold and uncomfortable. We ran out of toilet paper and had to go and purchase. We preordered our evening meal and that didn't make things any quicker. For breakfast the scrambled eggs ran out and I asked for some to be told they had finished and that was it. I asked a different person and they brought them to us when they were ready. It was obvious some of the staff had never served a person of colour. The whole stay was unpleasant. Our celebration was ruined.

I booked this hotel for myself a 2 colleagues. We were also meeting 2 other from Germany there. The hotel looked great and the reception staff were friendly. Unfortunately that is were the good stuff stopped! The rooms were tired and dirty, they seemed to have run out of most things you ordered, a starter took about an hour to arrive (only pate). Cheese and port, port served over ice, not quite sure why they thought that was the way to do it? No coffee and the machine had been turned off. One of the staffs children (about 6 years old) helping out until gone 11:30 at night. No ink in the printer in the morning, so no bill to inspect etc. All in all a terrible experience. All in all a

We visited for a wedding. Room was a good size and in a reasonable condition. Beds were really comfortable and bedding spotless. Bar understaffed but all of the staff were really friendly and worked their socks off. Breakfast was nice and the breakfast staff didn't stop to ensure everyone was fully fed and attended to.

The room was tiny, dirty, cobwebs hanging off ceiling. Extremely rusted radiator. One worked and one didn’t. We had one socket for everything. Walls were dirty and scuffed. Bath panel coming away and all flaky paint. Velux window had about an inch of dust and cobwebs in it. The room obviously isn’t cleaned very well

I made the booking a year previous to our stay for our friends wedding which we were really looking forward to. Upon booking I received an email starting the incorrect date for the stay I contacted hotel and asked for another confirmation email with correct date that had been booked but never received this email that was promised. Closer to the date off the booking I contacted the hotel again to double check it again that it was booked for the correct date which I was assured it was but upon asking for a confirmation email off this again incase of any issues when it came to the date but yet again still didn’t receive the promised correct confirmation! Luckily the day off our friends wedding arrived and I was a bit anxious even though I had been told we were booked in for the correct date but luckily all was okay when it came to checking in so that was a relief. On getting to our room to get ready for the wedding I was surprised how small the room was but it was okay it was only for one night anyway but I wish now I had done my hair and make up at home prior to arriving as I found it really akward as the mirror in the bathroom had good lighting but no we’re to put your make up etc while getting ready but not a problem there was a table in the room with a mirror on the wall, perfect, we’ll not really when you can barely see in this mirror because the other table is sticking out and stopping you from using the mirror but also no where to sit while getting ready just made it feel really akward and made getting ready and hoping to look my best nearly impossible especially as I suffer with back problem I really wasn’t impressed to give my honest opinion! Breakfast was included in the £95 we paid for the room but we choose not to stay for breakfast just for the reason of prior commitments we had to get home for the following morning.

Room shabby, moss around windows, handles hanging off draws, obvious height difference in the two single beds put together to make a double. More disgustingly toe nails clippings down the side of the bed. Obviously not cleaned. No cot for baby as requested on booking 12months ago. Refund demanded. Stayed in alternative accommodation.

Good stay, old room with lots of character. It's a wedding venue and had a large wedding party which took over the place with disco/karaoke until late. Had room service meal which was good. Would recommend if you want a different experience from a standard hotel.

false selling of superior room

The hotel grounds were lovely, the interior was lovely. The bedroom however was a let down. I booked the superior room and envisaged the room to be of similar standard. It wasn't. The bathroom toilet was chipped, the bath panels were in need of repair. There was dust and dirt along with a hair or two in the bath. The clothes closet had not been finished and there was no carpet just underlay. The bedroom dressing table chair was old, worn at the side and had speckles' of dried milk on the back seat. There was a lovely silver drawer which didn't match in with the shabby dressing table however it had a damaged handle. There was a lot of cobwebs and marks on the walls and the carpet had dirty footmarks clearly displayed throughout the room. The double bed, which was two singles had not been zipped together so during the night my partner and I separated, literally! The noise level was so bad we could hear the people above our room going the toilet. It was so clear my partner remarked the person hadn't washed their hands. We had hoped to eat in the restaurant however it was busy thus we opted for a bar meal. After we had ordered and waited for over 30 minutes the bartender advised us we had to wait a further 30 minutes. When the food arrived my fries looked very pale and the chicken was dry. My partners fish and chips could have been prepared in a supermarket cafe. The bartender placed the plates down and didn't offer condiments and kept referring to my partner as 'mate'. In the morning we asked the reception staff to view the room and she offered a discount on our stay. On reflection I now consider this discount was to prevent us from causing any further action as we stated we felt the room had been mis sold to and none of the rooms on the website were on offer. My partner I now know had pre rung the hotel to check we were having a superior room as that evening he was planning to propose to me. Unfortunately the ambiance he was planning for didn't happen. As previously stated the grounds were just beautiful and old meet new of the interior we felt gave the accommodation character however I have stayed in better quality premier inns than room 29. I feel we were just palmed off with this room because ee booked via a booking website and i wonder why the cleaning supervisor had not fed back the quality of the room when she inspected it. As stated even with the discount the room would not have been booked if the true pictures were on the website.
