When we arrived we were allocated room 310. On going to the room we realised it was a double not the family room we booked online as our party consisted of 2 adults and our 4 year old daughter. We returned to the reception and was allocated another room 308 which we were told was a family room. As we tried to enter the room we realised that the room was already occupied. We quickly shut the door with embarrassment and visited the reception yet again. This time when we got to the reception there was only one member of staff, Toni. The reception girl had been sent home Ill. Toni was mortified about the mishap with both rooms but was struggling to deal with all the demands of the desk alone. She then spent approx 20mins looking for us another room but had difficulty as she normally worked in the bar and restaurant not the reception. She then went physically went looking for a vacant room herself. The wait was endless and stressful with a 4 year old!!! We eventually got allocated a third room number 225 after approximately over an hours wait sitting in reception. Toni couldn’t do enough and her professionalism was impeccable but the service from the hotel was horrendous. As a gesture of good will we were given a bottle of wine to our room. On entering 225 we noticed that the extra bed was a sofa bed which we had to make. There was no linen for it to we had to ask reception again!!! Poor TONI!!! By this time the evening was ruined and our plans of visiting Chester were scuppered as our 4 year old daughter was tired and ready for bed. So our trip ended up being a night in a hotel.

Really pleasant experience, when we asked for an iron and ironing table, these needs were met along with asking for a fan as the room got quite hot in the sunny weather. The only downfall for us was the breakfast, the room was quite dingy and dark, not how you want to spend your breakfast first thing in the morning. Also, the water used for the cup of teas wasn't as hot as it maybe should have been. The actual food was a bit underwhelming and this is why we didn't come back the next day and we opted to go elsewhere for breakfast.

Nice room but very disappointed with the lack of security. Exterior fire doors always open making it very easy for intruders as these doors were well away from reception area. Also, this is a fire safety issue.

We enjoyed a very pleasant two night stay. The hotel was well situated for our purpose, set out in countryside but near enough to motorway access to make local attractions easy to reach. We had two very quiet nights too. The staff were friendly and helpful and the leisure facilities were a bonus. Our room was well equipped. We only had breakfast in the hotel which gave us two very different experiences. On the morning after a large coach party had left, it was a dismal experience with the whole place needing care and attention and all aspects of the buffet either looking tired or totally lacking. However, on the second morning, the staff had time to talk and greet us, the food looked fresher and was certainly more plentiful. The whole atmosphere had changed.

As a disabled person i had asked for a ground floor room which thankfully was given.Booking in i asked about breakfast in my room as i had medication to take,i was told there was a card in my room fill out,put it out on the door and it would be collected which i did.when breakfast didnt arrive i opened the door and the card was on the floor this was 9.30am,whe i had asked for a 8.45 to 9.15 breakfast.when i went to call down i had no phone available in my room.i had actually fallen off the bed at 2am(no fault of hotel)but was stuck on the floor for a while but thankfully managed to get myself up.I was then thinking what would have happened to me if i could not get myself up,if i was diabetic and needy food at a certain time?This then brought a bit of a panic attack as i could of been lying on the floor until staff came to clean the room.I did say to the receptionist it made me feel very unsafe.she could not apologise enough,but by this time i just wanted to get home.another member of staff did come to my car and ask if she could get me a muffin and a drink.I am not a person who complains but this was the 1st time in over 5yrs i have stayed overnight anywhere,i was down for my sisters 60th and decided to treat myself.I hope things can improve so nothing like this ever happens to another vulnerable person.

Room was cleaned and comfortable but no sheets changed during our four night stay, the breakfast was good but some staff not clearing tables and making sure cutlery was available also running out of hot water and had to be promoted to put out cups and glasses

The room overlooked the fan units which made lots of noise, it was far too hot. The bathroom door didn't shut let alone lock and the extractor didn't work. The breakfast was terrible. I think the fact the receptionist didn't ask how our stay was summed it up. It was a really disappointing stay

Our stay was ok. Shower was a waste of time with water only trickling out. Poor lighting in bathroom with only 2 lights working and shaving light not working. Noisy with doors banging.

The hotel was in very poor condition. My bath tub was completely rusty (room 204) the wall paper was poorly applied and the beds were extremely uncomfortable. Staff however were generally good and breakfast was reasonable.

Extremely poor. Asked for a cot on email days before stay. Arrived - no cot in room. Went out and asked for cot to be put in room. Arrived back at hotel 4hrs later still no cot in room. Rang down to reception - 45mins later STILL NOT COT!!!!!!!! After another call to reception finally a cot was brought up. 2 year old extremely restless and upset as well past her bed time! Then went to put baby down to bed and lights wouldn't switch off! Couldn't make it up. Receptions answer after their assessment was for us to move rooms or take the light bulbs out!!! What a lovely stay!!!!

Everything was fine, location great, room clean and very comfortable. Drinks in bar quite reasonable, but did think food was quite expensive so we ate out. Breakfast was included and was very nice.

Very unhappy with service received at reception. First room given was used / dirty (potentially being used by another guest). When our friends arrived they was told we would be in the room next door as We requested however this was not the case( understand this can not always be accommodated) the next room we were moved to wE was told it was just up the stairs however this was not the case and we was up on the top floor. The room we moved to was like a sauna and when we requested a fan the receptionist said she would look for us as they were in a different room but she did not move to look and carried on carrying out duties so my husband said he would come back, 30mins later he returned and a different receptionist said they would not be where the first receptionist said they would be. Disappointed with the facilities at the swimming pool as the lockers did not have any locks on them. No staff at the bar and when we called we had to wait a while, drinks were flat and warm. Staff not helpful or apologetic in any way for the troubles we have had. We chose this hotel as we trust the mercure brand (having got married in the London Watford one) however we feel extremely let down by this hotel

Very good hotel ,ample parking,welcoming reception staff.Room much larger than expected. Nice dining room and the breakfast was excellent. Swimming pool quite large for a uk hotel,and was spotlessly clean.

Starting off with the booking was horrendous communication was not there. But once we arrived the gent at the desk warmly greeted us. Was surprised when we got to our room being a couple one would expect 1 bed but there was 2. Overall stay was good. Being told that the Budweiser you sell was the original one with the red bottle just changed its name was not pleasant to be lied to. It was an import and not Budweiser, which tasted disgusting after a 5 hour drive we wanted to relax that put a downer on the first night.

Booked by phone, first contact was a trainee who efficiently passed me onto trained member of staff who booked me in for our stay. Friendly face on arrival, as it was before 2pm we had lunch in the bar , although we were the only people there this was not a problem. We stayed for two nights and both evenings ate in the restaurant. The food was excellent, generous portions, hot and tasty. Our room was large and clean but faced the back so outlook was a brick wall, could do with new carpet also but as the hotel is under new management this is probably on the list. Staff were friendly and helpful. Overall enjoyed our stay.
