Had a great stay during October school holidays. Hotel has a great location, close to Chester and all great locations like Chester zoo. Hotel provides amazing breakfast, everyone would find something they like. Also it was great to use swimming pool, very warm and cosy. Both sauna and steam room were great and did benefit to our stay.

Expected a lot more from a large hotel chain

The carpet in the bedroom was thread bare in places. The second bed in the room completely blocked the access to the bathroom. The tea tray was very poor for not a standard room. The room was cold. We arrived late and really couldn’t be bothered to talk to disengaged staff. Dinner was basic - the veggie burger was poorly presented - Macdonalds serve a better burger. The restaurant was soulless again with major flooring issues. Breakfast was basic - hot water to make drinks out of a flask that doesn’t stay hot is not acceptable. Staff basically seemed unloved and that reflected in their attitude. I have 3 more stays in the area over the next 8 weeks and will not be booking to return.

On arrival we were very disappointed with the room which certainly didn’t match up to superior which we had booked neither did the second room offered .the third we were reasonably satisfied with and were told no better room was available as hotel fully booked.so having stayed with Accor in many different countries we found this to be the worst hotel .not the stay we were looking foreword to as it was a birthday celebration

I was amazed by the level of hospitality given to me at this hotel. I have seen from reviews that Mercure hotels provided great services to customers but sceptical initially due to the relatively low price per stay in this particular mercury hotel compared to the other hotels on the price list on accorhotels website at the time of booking. I can tell you I enjoyed excellent service starting with great customer service at the desk from JAKUB. The young man’s actions were absolutely incredible in terms of great display of his work flexibility, friendliness, professionalism and nuance. His excellent customer service acumen kick started the road to the best stay in a hotel ever. The kitchen staffs were friendly, organised and helpful as well as the bar and house keeping. I will recommend mercure hotel to you without any reservations.

The Hotel is very tired and dated , Wifi signal was so weak I couldn't work / send emails , No hot wter for a shower , and generally didn't feel crisp or clean

Very disappointed, room was very dated and in a shabby condition. This hotel was nowhere near the standard I have previously experienced with Mercure when abroad.

On entering our room (103) it was cold and discovered the heating system was not working. Both my wife and daughter went for a shower to heat up. I reported the faulty heating to Michaela in reception. I then tried to have a shower only to discover there was no hot water. I then again reported the water situation to reception. Michaela returned to the room later with a portable heater for us. The next day we went for a swim only to discover when we went back to the room that once again there was no hot water from the shower. We all had to shower in the pool area. The same happened the next day. We also noticed that the wash hand basin lever for emptying the basin was extremely tight and could not be moved by my wife or daughter. I myself had difficulty in moving it. The surface around the basin seamed to gather water and drip onto the floor. We had dinner the first night in the bar. When ordering a pizza, it was £9.99 with three toppings. We ordered the pizza with 3 toppings but were charged an extra £3.00 ( did not challenge) Ordered drinks but the pint of Amstel was charged at £5.00 instead of £4.00 When ordering another pint I queried the price and was only charged £3.00 We enjoyed the swimming pool but to our dismay we could not swim on saturday morning due to the Puddle ducks were in at 8.30am. Last time we were able to share the pool as it was cordoned off. Overall we enjoyed our stay but were disappointed due to the above mentioned points. We were offered to switch rooms but did not relish the thought of packing up all our stuff to switch for another night. Would have been different if our stay had been longer. This is our second time staying at your hotel. The first stay was excellent with a great location. However slightly disappointed in our second visit. On booking the hotel. The telephonist at the reservation centre who I spoke to went out her way to accommodate us.

Not your typical Accor brand hotel, but has a lot of charm and friendly helpful staff. Had a great nights sleep. Excellent location for my trip and loads of parking. Would definitely stay here again if in the area.

Rather poor - the staff were friendly BUT i) the telephone in the room did not work, ii) the radiators in the room did not work iii) the tea and coffee at breakfast were tepid as they are served in a large thermos, iv) most surprising of all, there were never any napkins (not even paper ones) at the breakfast table, v) the 'free' swimming is a misnomer at weekends as the pool is occupied by children's swimming lessons.

Arrived to suitable welcome and check-in but in the morning there was no hot water in the shower or taps. When we tried to call reception, we were told the boiler was not working. There was no apologies given, and they didn't even attempt to give a solution or a time scale of when it might be up and running again. When we then checked out again no apology was given, I had to prompt the person at the reception desk that they should be apologising to guests when something as major as hot water is not available. Extremely disappointed and unlikely to book with Mercure again.

First room 234 too far away and up too many stairs. Second room 115 too cold no heating available in room. Towels very thin and rough on skin. Staff very friendly and helpful.

First time visit to the hotel the reception, bar and restaurant areas are nice, clean and modern. I was disappointment with the small old fashioned room I had. The room was small and dark with old red patterned curtains and animal print wall paper and cobwebs on the window. I had even put a note to say I was celebrating a 40th birthday and wanted the best room available. The room is very mis-represented on the website. I wouldn't stay here again. Staff were friendly and accommodating even finding a phone charge for me to use for the evening. If the room could be brought up to the same standard as the bar/restaurant it would be a much better hotel.

I love staying at this hotel. I work near Cheshire Oaks a lot and find the hotel comfortable and the staff very accomodating. I do find the lack of a main room light a little annoying and the fact that the changing areas in the pool don't have cubicles isn't great, but being able to have a swim and a decent meal before getting in a comfortable bed is a great end to a working day.
