Reading previous reviews it was with some trepidation that I booked this hotel. It is clear that it has been sadly neglected in the past, just tired looking and in need of some t.l.c. Positive is that the restaurant lived up to Mercure ethos, good local food, well cooked and presented. Beware the car park near the road - it was raining hard and the puddles hid some suspension-damaging pot holes! It will not stop me booking again as very convenient to where I need to be.

I stayed with you last year booked under my daughter name Devenport we commented then that the radatior was not working also mildew in the bathroom,did give us a convector heater so said no more.When we arrived we were given the same room still no radatior working and mildew still in the bathroom ,they did offer to move us but it was on the next floor didn’t think it worth moving our luggage,to say the least we were very disappointed as this was a treat for my grandaughter,as it is such a good location to Chester shopping but my have to look for another hotel next year.

Room was cold, noisy through the night, Luke warm water for a shower. On the first night we didn’t sleep due to generator and heating system noise asked to move rooms and refused. We did not stay the second night that we had booked.

Stayed here for a Xmas Party. On entering the hotel we where not acknowledged by the receptionist. We checked in paid and went to our room , which had not been cleaned. We returned back to reception, given a key to another room. Receptionist was curt and offered no apology. Got to the room, again it had not been cleaned. A lovely lady who was in the corridoor on housekeeping was apologetic. Showed us to another room, and said she would fetch us a key from reception. The general cleanliness of the room was not up to standard. The party, staff etc and breakfast in particular was great . We had no water from the shower in the morning, so had to take a bath instead. Overall the experience was ok. It would of been better if your receptionist had better front of house/customer care skills

The bathroom in our room was horrible! Above the shower (ceiling) was black with mould. There had also been leak from the room above, which had stained one wall and ceiling where the bed was. Because we didn't arrive until 10pm I didn't want to complain- just go to sleep. But I wish I had as I cannot get my Tesco vouchers back that I could have spent on something more worth the money!

I booked this room to tie in with a visit to Cheshire Oaks. Overall the standard of the room was poor - radiator and small toilet light didn't work, peeling wallpaper and badly damaged bath panel. In addition the noise from banging doors and other rooms made the stay very uncomfortable. The positives have to be the food and service in the dining room. I appreciate that the hotel is being refurbished but rooms which are in poor condition should not be let out. Not the standard I expected from Mercure

We visited chester for the zoo and chose the mercure as we have stayed in various mercure hotels around the world. The breakfast staff were very helpful and friendly, clean rooms, nice size rooms, lovely bar and comfy beds. Would stay again

Dear Hotel Manager/ Accor Hotel Group, I am writing to complain at the catalogue of problems we have experienced during our stay. This has been the worse stay I have ever experienced at any Accor hotel. 1. Upon arrival, late after a long drive, we were shown to our room to discover it was completely taken up by three single beds when I had booked a double with a single. I was told it could be sorted the following day which was not good enough. Upon complaining we were shown to a second room which only had a double bed so was therefore smaller than the room I had booked. Only upon complaining again at how late it was, how tired we were and moving all our luggage’s around a complicated hotel layout we were given a suite which I accepted. 2. Day 1 of our stay I endured a cold shower. I did not complain as it had been ok the night before so thought it was just me. 3. Day 1. My husband had a bad nights sleep so cancelled breakfast. He was then consumed with work and conference calls so was unable to take a break for food until after 1400. Only to be told that there was no food available until 6pm. As a customer with diabetes this was potentially life threatening. On the website and the room service brochure it clearly states that food is available all day but this was not to be the case such that I had a panicked call when I left work in Liverpool to urgently pick him up food on the way home. 4. Day 2 another freezing cold shower!! This time I complained and that day the problem of a faulty thermostat was repaired. 5. Day 2 my husband ensured he went to breakfast at about 0930 to prevent a repeat of day one. Only to discover the hot food was inedible. He complained and was informed that it is all cooked ready when the restaurant opens at 0630! So his food had sat drying out and potentially becoming contaminated for over 3 hours! 6. Day 3 Our room was cleaned (we believed as the bed was made) yet the full bin in the bathroom was never emptied which was unacceptable and very unhygienic. 7. Day 4 Expecting a nice lie in on Sunday morning we were awoken by the fire alarm going off twice. 8. Day 4 Despite requesting a late check out we were disturbed twice by room service. Not a great start to our day. 9. Day 4 I decided to go for a swim and sauna only to discover that a very small pool was cut in half for baby swimming classes. The environment completely put me off as well even having just a sauna. There was clearly inadequate ventilation in the gym as it was completely steamed up and smelt. 10. It is very sad that an Accor hotel in such a great location for both Liverpool and Chester has clearly been neglected in its cosmetic appearance and safety features. Paper is pealing off the walls, the carpet in the corridors are thread-bear, very jaded and a potential trip hazard. An air-freshener has been placed in the lift as it smelt so bad. 11. I would love to return due to the location but following what we have seen and what we have experienced I even object to paying for this stay let alone risking repeating the experience. I hope you take on board our complaints and Accor do the right thing by investing in what could be a great hotel.

Received a damp mouldy room on arrival requested a move in which we got a renovated room. The renovated room was better but had a worn carpet with a hole in it so I don’t think much got done within the renovation. The whole hotel needs done up, wallpaper in corridors coming off so not even nice to walk through.other than that we could not fault the staff as they were all very nice and friendly and helpful.
