« Great overnight business stay »

This is a very busy hotel, but the staff were excellent. The rooms and the hotel is starting to look a little tired, but the cleanliness is very good. I had to wait for a slot in the dining room, but the staff looked after me well and the food when it came was superb - well worth the wait. I will definitely be staying here again and using the restaurant.

Stay completely ruined by a large group celebrating a birthday making an absolute racket, with no consideration for anyone else, first while we were trying to have a quiet meal, then when we were trying to sleep. They were bouncing round the bar area from 7pm, until god knows what hour, screeching at the top of their voices, not staying in their function room, and when they did go in there they left the doors open so we got the thud thud thud of the overloud Disco all evening. When I complained to hotel staff, all I got was a shrug of the shoulders and “yeah - sorry about that” - what sort of response is that to a genuine complaint ? Disgraceful

Disappointed not to get before 2pm as this has happened before but came back at 2.10pm to find a queue because everyone came back at 2pm. Room was not ready but allocated another. Maybe this have been done when we first showed up rather than come back at 2. If your going to start check in at 2 have more than one staff member to deal with that. It was 14.40 before we got to our rooms. Unhappy as well the only lift being out of order and staff not mentioning it however the fact it was busy could they could easily forget. Just as well we are fit enough to go to the top floor. No doubt that would have been another wait until someone could have took our luggage if we were not up to it. I have been at your hotel many times as I am a wigan rugby fan. Always amazes me how many times I get the rooms near the lift or like last time the cleaners room. I will be back at your hotel just a little disappointed.

I have stayed at the Wigan Oak many times and have always had a great stay with friendly and attentive staff. Reception didn't bother to smile or to stand up when I arrived. There wa no heating on in the room. Room doors kept banging all night because they don't close smoothly, so I could sleep from 1am to 6 am. Bed matresses are totally worn out, hollow. Restaurant staff has no clue about serving, not even smiling. Breakfast is appaling with 2 types of canned fruits, bread not fresh, low quality products.

The room was perfectly fine, with a clean and spacious bathroom and nice bed. The only downside was that it was a bit noisy, with some noise coming from the busy road below and more from within the hotel, with the room door not being particularly effective and shielding the comings and goings of other guests.

The hotel was recommended by a local rugby club and we could not have been happier. The receptionist was professional, friendly and welcoming - making a superb first impression. The room was clean and well prepared, enjoying a good night's sleep. The breakfast menu provided an excellent variety of choice with good quality food which was hot and plentiful. An overall wonderful experience.
