Overall a pleasant experience only £20 taxi to haydock racecourse. A few little things could have been better, having to ask and wait for the reception staff to serve at the bar. The breakfast was good but had to ask for a few things to be filled up no bread no beans or orange juice and it was only 9.45 didnt finish till 11

We arrived early & the lovely ladies had managed to put us in rooms that were already ready. It was our wedding anniversary & when we came back after the races there was petals & a card on the bed for us. Such a lovely thing to do.

Great stay at the Mercure. Staff were helpful on arrival and got us checked into our rooms. Night-manager was able to offer us a second key-card when one of our party got lost in town (taxi dropped him off shortly after) Room was a comfortable temperature and beds were really comfy. 12:00 checkout was welcome, although I (chose to) miss breakfast as a result. Maybe next time!

Reserved an early check in room according to my booking that should be ready from 10am arrived at the hotel at 12pm to be told my room wasn’t ready despite other members of our groups rooms being ready that didn’t book early check in, the staff quickly removed this charge from my booking but I was extremely upset that a service I booked wasn’t upheld.

Unfortunately, there was an unavoidable delay in servicing some of the bedrooms and we did try our utmost to correct this as soon as possible. . Dirty crockery.. dirty chair seats and carpet in resturant.. a lack of basic hygeine .. breakfast dry and over cooked

As usual a great stay here. The staff were lovely and very helpful. Location is spot on. My main issue was being in the room that was next to the elevator which i heard all night. Also the taps on the bath need sorting. Other than that it all good

The rooms are dated and the ridiculous situation of having to pay for food at reception was unacceptable. You have a bar where food is ordered and staff manning it...... so why not use it.

Lovely hotel. Very friendly staff. Great location. The only issue is the storage of clothing. There was only a shelf and a rail. Not much space to put clothes.

Lovely hotel and room. The only issue is the space for storing your clothes. A little shelve and a railing to put clothes on for 2 people staying 3 days is not much room. Great location and staff very friendly.

Most staff are very helpful, especially the receptionists. However the waiting staff could do with better training, including table service both at breakfast and dinner. The food itself is reasonably good. The rooms need updating, paper peeling off walls, damage to paintwork etc. This hotel is very handy for Wigan, both road and rail links are good. I stay here regularly as I have family in the area. One other point, could the door closing on the rooms be made quieter, they really bang loudly no matter how hard you try not to. Perhaps install a better, slower closing system, especially for latecomers at night?

Initially not to good as I found out that all rooms had a bath under shower. Not good but I am afraid of slipping. Luckily a room with shower became available every thing got better.

pretty good - but one incident is worth bringing to attention. On return lat on Saturday night, Sunday morning, I was strafed with beer cans coming over the beer garden wall! Not really the experience i would have expected, but it was late and i was not feeling confrontational after loading band gear for a couple hours, was tired. I did show reception the aftermath of this the next morning.

Our two night stay was very pleasant, check in was fast and efficient. The room was comfortable and good for a short break. Our evening meal was very nice, the waitress was pleasant and welcoming. Brerakfast was extremely busy and we needed to wait for a table. It was just a short wait and we were guided to a table as quickly as possible by the same waitress as the previous evening. Breakfast (full english) was excellent, plentyful, fried or poached eggs are cooked on request. As with our previous stay the we found the the housekeeping staff particularly friendly. In all honesty I think the hotel is probably in need of some refurbishing and updating, but I was extremely satisfied with the service. Thank you everyone.

This is my 25th year of staying at the Oak for Wigan rugby matches. I have always enjoyed staying here and always find the hotel relaxing, with good friendly staff. The rooms are clean and well appointed with an excellent breakfast every morning.

Welcomed and looked after by really helpful, friendly and helpful staff. My specific room request was fulfilled perfectly - thank you. Why 8 and not 9 or 10? Only because so much felt just a little tired, in need of a coat of paint and the carpets a really good clean. Otherwise all fine. I'd stay again at the price I paid.
