« Despite it being very busy and full [withthe Darts Competition on in Wigan] it was as good as usual. We regularly stay here. »

The staff - particularly those on reception - are very friendly & helpful. The rooms are clean and the bed is very comfortable. There was a bit of door banging in the middle of the night on Fri pm / Sat am - but as hotel was full, lots going on, this was perhaps unsurprising.

I am a regular visitor to this hotel and it is always my first choice in this area. The staff are welcoming and friendly, the food is excellent and the rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable.

« Dirty, tired hotel with unhelpful staff »

This hotel needs a team to go in and conduct a very deep clean so that it can get the basics right. There is dust everywhere, old bits of food on the breakfast area carpet and the overall environment is looking very tired. The food offering is below what its competitors offer and the staff need some more training in customer service. Cleaning the place would be a great start.

The hotel is very dirty. There is dust everywhere, bits of food on the floor and the general condition of the communal areas made me concerned about the attention to detail in the bedrooms. Staff are uncommunicative. Food is very poor vs. competitor hotels. Lots of staff training required.

West did not get the level of room we were led to expect when we booked. The towels, toiletries and drinks wrote poor quality. The room was small. Basic maintenance repairs were not completed as we requested. Overall a shoddy experience.

The initial impression of the hotel is very good. Modern building, really nice entrance and bright, spacious lounge/bar area. It all looked really good. Unfortunately, little else matched this. With the exception of the night manager/bar man who was very good, the rest of the staff looked unhealthy and there was a general lack of energy about the place. The room was fine but basic (and this was a superior room), the bathroom had peeling paint. The breakfast was adequate but not brilliant. The whole place felt as if it needed a really good manager to turn it around and inspire the staff.

I have stayed here many times over the last ten years. I have noticed it is beginning to go downhill. My room was smelly,cigarettes and other peoples body odour. Also the inside is looking very shabby. Fixtures and fitting could do with a good clean. However I ate in the restaraunt both for a evening meal and breakfast,both excellent. Unfortunately I doubt I will be staying again as there are cheaper and newer hotels very nearby. M H.

I found the bed uncomfortable and didn't sleep very well at all. My wine glass was stained with speckles of red lipstick!! at my evening meal. Also this happened again the following afternoon at a funeral meal. I really think the staff need to be more alert in their service of glass, crockery etc. A few items were found to be not fully clean.

My husband and I stayed on Christmas Eve whilst visiting family. Our room was very nice and well appointed. We had a minor issue with the lock to our room upon our return late in the evening but the duty manager resolved this satisfactorily. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and had clearly made an effort to make the breakfast room festive on Christmas day.

« Short stay. Clean and Comfy »

Only in the hotel overnight for two nights. Rooms were clean and comfy, maybe a little tired but that's a minor complaint. Biggest concern was staff - Front of office staff were not particularly welcoming on arrival - just doing the job. We also had an issue with the key card and had to interrupt the receptionist talking to her "mate" to get it sorted. Breakfast was huge but lacked presentation. Looked like it had been piled on the plate. Solution, smaller portions or bigger plates.

Staffs are so kind therefore I don't have any complains over it. However, your facility might have some issues. For example, my cardkeys were not working, then I had to call to the reception for fourth times. It is not an usual thing I believe. Please improve.

On the whole very good. Friendly staff, good breakfast, good value for money. Rooms are in need of freshening up and maintenance required in the bathroom, our room smelt strongly of damp. Heater even though it looked poor kept the room very warm during 2 very cold nights.

« A warm welcome and a restful stay »

From the initial welcome to the final, for this visit, goodbye we were made to feel welcome. All the staff we interacted with, from the desk staff through the bar staff to the cleaners were helpful and cheerful, despite the wintry weather outside. Our room was well maintained and cleaned everyday to a high standard. The bed was very comfortable and while traffic was going past the windows kept all of the noise out.
