Almost none of the personal speaks English. That leaves 2 options : either management of the hotel change its job, either people working at the front desk do.

« Mostly pleasant but one of two aspects of stay which could be improved. »

Mostly very pleasant. Most staff very pleasant and helpful when they realised we had very little Portuguese. Room was good and cleaned well. Breakfast was good but a little more variety, especially fruit. The tendency for the key card to lose its code is irritating. The bar staff in the evenings were not as welcoming as for previous visits and it felt we were troubling them.

« Nice, pleasent but front desk was toooooo casual »

Room was clean and cozy, location is good, amenities could be a little bit better. Front desk collaborators (night and morning) were a bit too casual. The night (check-in) were more interested in gossiping about a colleague rather then provide me with information. The day (check-out) didn't check that I had a breakfast included I'm my fee and asked if I would no t have breakfast for R$25 extra. Haven't he been so uninterested in having me staying for breakfast, I would have even payed twice for that, given the fact I wasn't aware it was included in my fare.

« Affordable, clean and well located. »

The hotel is conveniently located close to the beach. There is a nice food shop/cafe close as an alternative to the hotel food. Room is small but functional and clean. Room was giving on a busy road but could barley hear the traffic. Had a great view of the Pedra de Gavea. Staff was friendly not all spoke English but they were helpful. Would recommend as a budget hotel.

« Overall OK »

Overall it was ok, but staying in the disabled room was not a pleasant experience. The sink is very small, low and the water goes out of the shower and wets the bathroom.

« Problems with poor hygiene »

The hotel meets my needs, however, the two times I stayed at Ibis Barra da Tijuca, I had problems with the cleanliness of the rooms: - Dusty curtains: The curtains are always very dusty, when you touch them to open the window, I had to wash my hands. - Dirt on the walls of the bathroom: It's disgusting, but in both rooms there was a lot of dirt clinging to the bathroom walls. In one they were balls of dirt, in the other lint of something he could not identify, anyway, it was very dirty and unpleasant. - Cleaning the floor: They pass some product on the floor that leaves him sticky. I had trouble at the cafe: - Cockroach at the table: I found a cockroach on the table where the sandwiches were. - Lack of utensils: It is common not to have dishes or cups of coffee and to have to look for someone to ask for one, this at 8:30 in the morning. - Omelette is over: It is common not to have an omelet at 8:30 in the morning. Another problem is that it is not possible to pay for the Booking.

The hotel follows the Ibis standard. I have enjoyed the breakfast - in particular the scrambled eggs, really good. Someone in the hotel told me the name who prepares the eggs - her name is Maria (Ibis employee).
