The new bar/food arrangements are not good, its not possible to take a drink in reception anymore and even more difficult to go to the bar and ask for a drink without a table

Since May, we have outsourced our restaurant to give our guests the opportunity to have dinner in our Hotel. But, you can still have a drink in our lounge. Very noisy room (#125) room because garage and Its door mechanism (engine) was under the room. Door was busy from very early till very late all the day. Room design was very nice but in the bathroom there was no hand shower. The floor in the shower was very slipery. Handle would be good for safety reasons. Breakfast was good but limited, I missed vegetables.

The room is perfect, the bed is good, the bath is nice and big. The only and biggest issue is that our room (209) had no airconditioning, the window was open when we came in but it was extremely warm. We had to sleep with the window open and the fan on but with the noise from outside it meant that we didn't get a lot of sleep. When you pay EUR 180 to get the best room in the hotel as you advertise you expect better. We complained at the reception but there was no other room available.

It was good. I appreciate the breakfast - it was just what needed every morning :) . Only thing that I would check next time carefully is the bed.. at least at room 228 both beds were ready to be changed for new ones.

The room was very impressive as far as size and quality but it was noisy from the restaurants in the street below and the air conditionning did not work so I had to keep the window open. The staff was very courteous and accommodating and there was always someone at the front desk even early in the morning.

As a frequent Accor guest I chose this hotel as it advertised a wonderful spa. I checked in and was given a voucher entitling me to my free spa use. I dropped of the bags, did some work and then tried to get entry to the spa via my key card but was refused. When I went to reception I was told that as a guest I was only allowed to use the spa free of charge between 07:00-10:00. As I would be leaving the hotel before then I said I would pay for afternoon use. The receptionist explained that as it was a very small spa it had to be pre-booked and was already booked for the rest of the afternoon and evening, meaning as a hotel guest with an early start I could not use the facilities. None of that was described on the web site and, had I known, I would not have chosen that hotel.

Dear Nick J Let me start with expressing my sincere apologies about you not having being able to use our wonderful Spa during your stay with us. I must say, on EVERY website online, our openinghours are mentioned, we don't feel happy if our guests are miss informed. Everyday before lunch the spa is open for our hotelguests, after lunchtime and in the evening everybody can rent the spa privately for 2 hours. Our wellness isn't small at all, we dispose of a nice swimming pool of 8 m on 4 m, 2 saunas, hot tub, hammam and relaxation area. I truly hope we can welcome you again so you can enjoy our wonderful Vé Wellness next time. Warm regards Hannelore Verschueren

When I made my booking I asked whether or not you had a gym & if not, could I use the facilities of your sister hotel across the road, Novotel. My request was ignored which I think is terrible customer service. I had to go to the Novotel myself to ask the question. The actual "gym" in your hotel is a bit if a joke, if you're going to offer a facility, at least offer a serious option. Having a toilet in the main bedroom is an odd concept to me, lacking privacy. The breakfast choice is reasonable & it is nice to have the option of a freshly made omelette. It would also be nice if you could offer poached eggs being made fresh. The new restaurant menu was good & the quality of the food was ok.

We enjoyed the hotel and Mechelen -however my sleep was not very good, we only removed the plastic under sheet after our first night but even without it the 2nd night wasn’t very comfortable either, and I disliked the overfilled pillows too. Also there was a mark on the net curtains- a lipstick or blusher stain which did spoil the windows a bit. We both liked the coffee machine’s coffee and the mineral water provided.

Loved the hotel and location. Staff were super friendly and very competent in their abilities. We did have a few issues with our stay. Not enough shower towels in our room (when we asked for additional towels they were delivered to our room in less than 5 minutes). We did not have a shower only a tub. This would have been good to know at the time of check in. We were offered a new room but we had already unpacked and did not have time to repack to move to another room as we had to get to an appointment. We did not have hot water in our bathroom sink. After a few minutes of investigation we had to turn on the hotel water shut off valve under the sink. When we returned to our room the valve had leaked onto our bathroom floor. I would stay at Hotel Mercure Mechelen Ve again.

We found the hotel well located and comfortable. It is set in a couple of former factories and the heritage is explained, you can walk down a staircase and see all the old features. So it is indeed not like a standard Accor hotel which makes it more interesting. We had a junior suite with a fireplace, the room was large and had a correspondingly large bathroom with a nice long bath and walk-in shower. It was quiet and well maintained. The large TV in the middle of the room was a bit odd and the wardrobe hanging space was no good unless you are child-sized, but otherwise the room was very comfortable. Would have liked some slippers even though the bathroom has underfloor heating. We got the standard free drink for Accor members and as a Platinum guest i got a late checkout no problem, though obviously that is subject to availability. The breakfast room was fine and eggs are cooked to order how you like (with bacon, sausage etc if you like) or you can boil your own (which I did as I don’t eat meat and was not convinced eggs cooked on the griddle would not taste of bacon). It also doubles as the bar, which doesnt really work, although we did try it. There is no restaurant, which came as a complete surprise to us and on the first night it was a bit of a rush to find somewhere to eat (as I don’t eat meat); it would be a good idea to warn people so they can look up restaurants in advance. We did get up extremely early one day to use the spa (as after 10am it is 100 euros…) and it is fine,with a pool, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and solarium - although there are no towels so take one from your room! As guests can only use it 7 to 10 AM we only saw one other person there and so it was very peaceful. We did have a problem one day when our room had been missed in the servicing rota, but Seif on Reception rushed up and did it himself (and did a very good job) - thank you Seif ! Reception staff were all very good, check-in went well and when we asked for advice how to switch on the fire the Reception came immediately (unfortunately we didn’t catch her name). Thanks to Katia on Reception also for her helpfulness and a smooth checkout. So, not a standard Accor but we liked the quirkiness, it makes a pleasant change when there is some individuality.

Unique place and building which brought magic to our stay, nice deco and ideally located in the centrum of Malines. Only difficulty was to ser up the warming in the room. Breakfast was very good.

Everything was fine, except the coffee maker was a little temperamental. Would have preferred the sausage and bacon at breakfast as often available in French Mercure Hotels. Parking nearby was secure and convenient. Very friendly, efficient and polite staff.
