Great Hotel in Centre of a great City had a wonderful weekend break - Some great bars and restaurants on the doorstep and NCP parking just round the corner - Ideal. Late checkout was handy for the hangover

« noisy room located over a pub terrace with speakers on till 3 am »

We choose to stay in the Mercure hotel due to its location within the city centre and our experience in other Mercure hotels in the past. We made a special request which was to have a quiet room as we were visiting Nottingham on a relaxing weekend. During the checking, we ask for the special request and it was confirmed that our room was one of the quietest in the hotel. We discovered at night that the room 215 was located just over a pub terrace where people can sit, drink, speak... there are even speakers with music. It was impossible to sleep with all that noise and the pub remained opened till 3 am. It was a horrible night. I have contacted various times to the reception but no solution was provided, no other rooms available, nothing can be done because the pub is not the hotel business (although it is advertised within the hotel webpage), all the rooms in the hotel are noisy because we are surrounded by pubs.... After the traumatic experience, we reported the issue to the manager in duty during the check out and it was really upsetting to listen to him as he mainly meant that the hotel is noisy as it is in the city centre surrounded by pubs and that we should have checked prior to book it in the internet webpages as there are loads of visitors saying about it. He also insisted that it was not the hotel responsibility as the pub was an independent business not linked to the hotel. My feedback to him was that from my point of view, what has happened was fully responsibility of the hotel as the hotel has contacted me twice by telephone prior to my stay in order to ask for my debit card details to ensure my room will be kept after 2pm however during these phone calls, no member of the Mercure has mentioned that the hotel is a noisy hotel and that my special request could not be fulfilled otherwise I would have booked a different hotel as the aim of the stay was to expend a relaxing weekend out. Also because during the checking I asked if the room was quiet and I was told that this was one of the quietest one however I have seen afterwards that there are interior rooms which I suppose are quietest that the exterior ones. Anyhow, our room was definitely the noisiest one in the hotel together with the same rooms located in the higher floors. The size of the pub terrace is small therefore the noise is significantly magnified due to the echo generated within the walls. We were offered a discount in our hotel bill however we are still very unsatisfied as our weekend in Nottingham was not as expected due to this issue. We were really tired on Sunday and we could not visit all the planned places and we came back home earlier than expected to rest. We felt we were not treated appropriately as we have been made guilty and even responsible of the issue for not checking other tourist comments in internet or not knowing that the hotel was a noisy hotel instead of the hotel manager to take responsibility of not having informed us in advance that it was a noisy hotel and our especial request could not be fulfil especially knowing that we are members of the accord hotel club. Very dissatisfying experience which will impact our opinion on Mercure hotels.

« Booking error with breakfast with no apology »

Have stayed in this hotel for 7 years, including our wedding and always had good service and no issues until this year. We booked and paid for our stay over six months before for a classic room with breakfast. All was well until we came down for breakfast and found our names weren’t on the list. The waiter headed down to reception to clear up the issue. He came back 5 mins later and said we hadn’t paid for breakfast and if it was an issue, we should speak to manager Chris at reception. So obviously we headed straight down to sort this out. Chris was adamant that we had booked a room only rate and said “unless we could prove otherwise” we weren’t entitled to breakfast! Luckily I had access to my email on my smartphone which has the booking clearly showing we had paid for breakfast. Chris then implied it was our fault for booking the breakfast as an add on! No apology was received despite this being an internal booking issue with the mercure website. I appreciate mistakes happen from time to time but its the way it was dealt with that made me very angry. A simple apology for the hotels mistake would have prevented we from having the write this. Also, if I didn’t have access to my email, we would have been refused breakfast that we had paid for. It is quite simply not good enough and we’ll be staying elsewhere next year, all thanks to the attitude of the manager.

Simply put Aweful - room supposed to have a double bed but consisted of two twin beds joined together - which then separated if you happened to roll into the other side of the bed - at checkout I did express my disappointment - but staff just shrugged it off

I have stayed at this hotel many times. I had no issues at all, all the staff are friendly and helpful as always. The room was clean and comfortable, and there was even enough decaff coffee in the room! The bed was comfortable and the bathroom clean and tidy. I would have no hesitation in stopping there again.

Initially cooled double room for myself and partner but when had confirmation it was a 1.1 room so rang and was told it was a small double with only my name even though I booked a double! The air conditioning gave me a sore throat so relied on opening window but the noise from night club was far too loud

When we walked into the room, the bed wasn't made properly. There were black hairs in the shower and skid marks in the toilet. The champagne we ordered tasted cheap and disgusting. At night we could hear people being drunk and loud at the bar. I will not be staying here again.

I was extremely disappointed with my stay this weekend, I arrived to the hotel staff telling me there was no booking under my name. Some time later they eventually realised it was there which caused us to be late for our dinner reservation. When we got to the room there was chewing gum smearing into the floor, one of the bed cushions was covered in dirt and the bed throw had an awful looking white stain on it. The noise of the nearby bars and clubs was very apparent until about 3am which was no pointed out to me before booking. On both occasions at breakfast in the morning I was offered a coffee on arrival and both days it didn’t come and I had to go back and ask for it again. Overall extremely disappointed, after spending £275 for my girlfriend to have a weekend away after she has been struggling with a few things this was not what I had in mind. I have stayed in your hotels before but this was not a pleasant experience.

Totally predictable Mercure experience, friendly staff, clean comfortable room, good location. I’ll never have breakfast there because there’s a Wetherspoon just across the street, but I did go to the bar a couple of times which is reasonable.

Friendly helpful staff. Great location. Bathroom extractor fan not working. Windows didn't open. Good air con but tedious to operate. Very clean. Comfortable bed. Interesting decor throughout the hotel. Breakfast was good but not amazing. Very good value for money overall. Would come again ;)
