Once again - my experience was totally extraordinary! From the very kind and caring welcome at check in, to the superhuman strength of the bellhops as they managed SIX very heavy bags - in AND out of the Sofitel to my truck - to the lovely quiet room I was given - to the day I checked out - everything was ONCE AGAIN totally perfect!! Do not understand that you can not close the door of the shower room , my wife can not sleep if I take shower or wash my hands , sorry but the hotel is nice but I would not stay again. Such a nice building and no bar ? only in the Casino is not right .

« Beautiful location, beautiful building, BUT room interiors dated and worn!!! »

Overall it was a nice stay, however there were a few issues that took away from the experience. Upon check in at 3:15 pm, we were told our room was not ready, it would only be 10 minutes......had a complimentary drink in the bar........we had to repeatedly go back to the desk (after being told they would come get us) only to be told the room is still not ready!!!! Over an hour later and after I started to get upset the room presented itself! As mentioned the room was nice at one point in time........way over-due for a face lift. The bathroom/shower is the worst design I have ever encountered! The light switch/ electrical outlets locations/design are dated. It is hot in Montevideo, we wanted to sit by the pool.......no umbrellas or sun protection at all! NO attendant to ask for help (but yet, you have 4 or 5 guys in suits standing at the front door literally doing nothing!!!!!) We also asked if the hotel would have a beach umbrella to use (seeing you are on a beach) and of course the answer was no. No communication at breakfast as well..........first of all it is WAY over-priced for essentially bread, cheese and cereals. Only by accident did we learn (on our last day) that the kitchen would make eggs to order. We had to repeatedly ask the manager to refresh empty plates on the buffet. Shouldn't have to beg for the bare minimum...........whether it was coffee, water, silverware.........we had to seek out the under-staffed staff! We discovered a beautiful boutique hotel right next door that we will definitely consider when we return. I would not stay at this property again!!!!!

The Sofitel is an absolutely stunning hotel with friendly staff members. My only holdback was that the bathroom in the hotel room was set up kind of strangely for guests who are sharing a room. The "door" to the shower room only had wood bars every other inch, which completely eliminates any sense of privacy. Had I been staying alone, that thought may not have even crossed my mind, but it was quite uncomfortable to lack so much privacy while sharing the room.

« it could have been great »

it's my 3rd time at this hotel. I really like the service, location and amenities. However, this time, I had a late flight, arrived past 11pm and by the moment I get to my room the AC was not working. The thermostat in my room had 29oC. I called the concierge and despite everything was fixed, I went to bed after 12:30am. Definitely not what I was expecting from Sofitel

« Questions on what is a ‘Superior’ room ... 232 »

... with Enchanting tours. We limited this to 6 nights in Uruguay with transfers including ferry Colonia to ferry Montevideo back to BA. In Colonia we stayed at Charco which according to our friends that we joined in Colonia for 3 nights was too expensive for them. From ‘them’ that is a statement. Apparently Charco charges 350 USD a night ... ... at Sofitel our itinerary states ‘Superior’ room. Nancy and I did not think that this is a Superior room. A nice room at 110 USD on Booking.com but my math nor my perception does not support a comparison in rooms. Nevertheless the your Hotel is an architectural gem ... the staff was super. The breakfast was one of the best. You can read my 5 star review on TripAdvisor under Lorenzo el J.. At 110 USD a super and definite recommendation for your stay in Montevideo. But we struggle with the Surperior room ... Now the Hanoi Hilton ... Sofitel was incredible in all respects.
