Really enjoyed the atmosphere of the hotel. The restaurant meals were the best we experienced for the entire trip.

Bedrooms quite small, paint peeling off the window frames, no double glazing so very noisy, pillows very hard and no choice of pillows, room too warm and no visible means of controlling the temperature, décor throughout the hotel very tired, hollandaise sauce with eggs benedict very weird tasting - way too much lemon....glad it was not my own money!

I will say one thing the beds are very comfortable which always helps after a hard days work. What I would say is that your breakfast from the first time we stayed to the next two times we stayed has gone down the hill last week we had breakfast bacon was not cooked properly it was white sausages had a funny taste of them and looks like they were completely different sausages the scrambled egg was all mushy watery and again to the second time on the trot I’ve had to stand there waiting to the eggs to come out this should be constantly monitored to see when you start to get low new eggs should be coming out However the bacon look like it was just shown the oven or the pan. I’m not telling the chef how to cook bacon but I like the bacon Cooks but not well done in between where you can see some colouring from the pan or the oven. We shall be staying down there again this week as the company is booking the room there but I will be giving the breakfast a miss as I was very dissatisfied with age marks out of 10 I will give it to one.

« Spoilt by some silly things. »

Sofa bed for our son had dirty sheets that actually looked like mould, so we spent the 1st night with him in our bed. In the morning we couldn't shower until maintenance came and sorted the thermostatic shower that was stuck on very hot only. In summary good location, good facilities, good sized room but let down by a lack of attention to detail.

The hotel car park was very difficult to find and better signage would be useful. The wifi was also somewhat hit and miss. The young man serving behind the bar at lunch time was extremely helpful.

Hotel in poor state of upkeep. Bedroom not particularly well kept. You could hear noise from the street outside; the hotel did provide ear plugs though!

« Ramshackle Hotel »

On arrival I was allocated a room on the 1st floor, When I got to the room I noticed the carpet stained, cracked and mouldy tiles in the bathroom so I went back to reception and requested another room. The receptionist offered me a room in the courtyard (17) which wasn’t any better, at this point I realised that this was as good as it gets here, so I put up with a damp smelling, dodgy door lock, temperamental shower, curtain rail off it’s hooks etc room for the night. Breakfast was mediocre for £10. All in all as a Platinum Member I expected to be treated better than this and been found a better room.

The reception staff were very helpful, down to checking on lost property we might have left with you in May. Bar cosy, barman just the right sort of attentiveness. Lovely (upgraded) room (thanks) and, above all, comfortable bed. You are one of our favourite hotels.

« Pleasant stay convenient for a business trip with ample parking and nice restaurant »

Very easy check-in experience, polite helpful staff. My room was spacious, although the bathroom was quite small. The bathroom had one of those stupid sinks that are a glass bowl, which are not very practical. The room itself was very hot, I didn't know where the heat was coming from as the radiator was off and this was on the first really cold day of the year. The duvet was also far too hot. The carpet needed to be hovered. I couldn't see how to turn the wall lights off and had to ring reception to find out - it may help to put some instructions out on how to find the switch. I ate in the restaurant with my colleagues and really enjoyed my meal, which I thought was reasonably priced and of good quality. The menu had enough choice for a longer stay. The breakfast buffet had a good variety of food without being over lavish and my hot drink was delivered quickly. Check out was also quick and easy and I would return for another stay here when visiting Southampton.

Wonderful historic building housing a good quality Mecure hotel. Staff very pleasant and helpful. Good size room with comfy beds. Bathroom a little tired, possibly in the middle of being renovated, but all in working order.

Would have liked a room with a large bed or twin beds (booked a twin). Only twin available was on the ground floor next to the busy. noisy main street. A privilege room was available, but this overlooked the main street and was single glazed. So, we settled on a room at the back with a small double bed. On the plus side, the staff were very helpful, but the rooms are not great as it's an old building. And, it's far too hot - apparently they can't turn the heating down. However, the food in the restaurant was excellent and we eat there both evenings.

« At the start of our holiday this stay was a very bad experience »

No help offered with the luggage up to a very small room for the money, wouldn't take my newspaper voucher. Breakfast was a disaster, clearly they were short of help in the dining room. We had to wait so long for the buffet to be replenished that I gave up on a cooked breakfast. One of the waitresses had a huge attitude problem. Another just kept saying sorry to an extremely irate Italian gentleman, but just continued with what she was doing. Many of your guests that morning were waiting to travel on the Queen Mary, as we were. You certainly succeeded in making us all appreciate good hospitality when we embarked on our ship. The top and bottom of all this is that we would be extremely reluctant to use any of your hotels in the future, as there is clearly a training problem with your company.

« First Christmas shopping trip »

Stayed here many times, but had a nice surprise of an upgraded room, which was really good. Only fault, which applies to nearly every hotel we've stayed in, is the lack of shelving &/or cupboard space in the bathroom. A lovely sized room with a great shower & only 1 tiny little shelf! As always, staff very friendly & helpful. Will be staying again.

The room was more than I expected. Also the dinner at the restaurant was delicious. I did not like the staff's response at check-in. It was not correspondence of Melkurre hotel. I was wondering if it is different from London and Manchester as well.

« A pleasure to stay at The Dolphin Hotel »

This recent stay was our second visit to The Dolphin Hotel and was once again booked as a P & O Cruise package (room, parking and port transfers) we upgraded to a privilege room (Aurora) and booked breakfast and evening meal. From arrival to departure and collecting our car on returning from our P & O Ventura Cruise everything ran so smoothly, a wonderful experience once again.

« Not really a 4* experience! »

Our room (room 122) was very small with a very uncomfortable (hard) bed and the bathroom was in desperate need of a make over with cracked tiles. Plus the fire alarm went off a 2.30 am, whilst I know this cannot be helped, it still spoilt our stay very much. All in all I have had better nights sleep for half the price in a Premier Inn! Definitely not what I expected from a 4* hotel.
