« Tired hotel. Good location. Staff were good. »

We only stayed one night. The staff were very helpful with our luggage and internet. Breakfast was good. Good location close to shopping and restaurants. We were on a cruise the next day and it was a short taxi ride to the shipping terminal. Overall it was fair value for money.

« It was ok but expensive for what it was »

Room (Oriana) was ok but small and basic for the price (we paid 488 for 2 adults for 2 nights) Mattress was ok for a short stay but we were aching by the end. Bottle of water and biscuit each day was nice. Toiletries acceptable but nothing fancy. Staff were ok. Room and bathroom were clean. Car park was good and felt safe. Location was good for us.

« Tired »

Room was on the main road so expected to hear some traffic noise but no attempt to dull the noise has been attempted. Very loud music and early hours revellers seemed like they were in our room. It needs secondary glazing and a good refurbishment.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was very clean and tidy and they helped in marking sure the transportation to and from the ship worked like clockwork

The room is in need of renovation. Decor was poor. Towel rail falling off the wall. Bath taps didn't work (only allowed shower option). No toilet roll in the room..............................

Decent sized room but the bed is effectively against a corridor where the creaking floorboards kept me up all night with presumably staff wondering around etc. Plus like every time I stay I have not received my Accor points. Not once have I received the points automatically from this hotel

« Uneven Experience with varied standards. »

I booked 2 rooms, one for 1 night and one for 7 nights. The 7 night room I booked for my mother and daughter and the 1 night room I booked for myself. Car parking charges were NOT clear when booking and the car par is overrun by cruise passengers. when my mother asked what would happen if she couldn't find a space when returning from a day out -she was rudely told that she could park in the NCP and would be reimbursed-she is 66! This is not acceptable after paying the charges and she was not comfortable walking back from the NCP car park after dark -so this prevented her going out for fear of not getting a space on her return. Breakfast was nice and rooms were very clean but rather tired. the room for one night was upgraded but the room for 7 nights was very cramped and the radiator had a substantial amount of paint peeling off looking very scruffy. The rooms were very hot -but opening a window made the room very noisy, especially my mother's room with the horrendous sound of empty bottles being collected very early every morning. Offering earplugs is not an adequate for a four star hotels. Crashing bottles are somewhat louder than the low hum of traffic. A fan is noisy and makes it hard to sleep too. Pre -authorisation was not explained properly and tied up £100 of my Mother's bank account for the week preventing her doing things on holiday -this despite the fact that I paid for the week plus breakfast for the week in advance for her. Again it was the same member of staff mentioned above-not really suitable for front of house I would suggest and lacking any warmth or customer service skills. Most staff were lovely and worked really hard -but were let down by one member of staff. The location is good but on the whole not a four star experience and somewhat disappointing.

room was very small not much wardrobe space. also very hot and hard to stay cool in the summer. fan was supplied but not very good. staff helpful and pleasant. did take 3 days to fix my toilet seat.

« Normally excellent but this time we had a noisy room that meant a below average experience »

We have stayed a number of times and thoroughly enjoyed the Hotel. Food very good, staff excellent, location extremely handy. We were allocated room 314 which was extremely noisy due to the air conditioning or ventilation shaft outside the window. We should have cottoned on to the issue earlier when we saw the ear plugs beside the telephone. This spoiled our stay and will make us think carefully about using this hotel in future.

« Avoid this room »

We have stayed at the Mercure Dolphin in Southampton a number of times and normally we have thoroughly enjoyed it. The room we had this time (314) was exceptionally noisy - not due to traffic - but do either air conditioning or ventilation shaft near the window. Any room that has ear plugs beside the telephone is probably best avoided! All other aspects of the stay were very good.

« Disaster. »

Our stay at this hotel was the worst I have ever experienced. Rooms were terrible, service was non existent. Would not recommend anyone to stay there. It seemed to me that not one person working there had been trained in hotel procedures, although to be honest there's not much to work with. Paid extra to be upgraded on our return from cruise. Was assured we would have a ground floor room. However on check (2 couples) one was upstairs with no help with luggage no no lift.

« Not up to the standard of a 4 star hotel, two many let downs and disconnected staff with wrong attitude »

I was promised disabled parking reservation over the phone, only to arrive and no disabled parking available at all. Room service breakfast menu was not collected and I had to walk the request down to reception 5 min before I needed breakfast, as I couldn't get a response on the phone. The breakfast arrived was dry and overcooked, except the toast which was inedible (warm bread). It was so bad I didn't have breakfast the next day. My mothers room had a water leak from the ceiling in the middle of the night, despite the inconvenience the hotel offered no recompense. TV remote didn't work and bulb blown on the desk lamp. The hotel is a lovely old building and could be a wonderful hotel but there is a serious disconnect between the level of service offered by the staff and the basic expectation one would expect in a four star hotel.

Was woken up at 4am with a fire alarm, then woken up again at 7am by a laundry delivery right outside our room, then when I told reception that I wasn't happy , they talk a call midway through my conversation at which point I walked out
