Great hotel with great staff, but avoid getting a room facing the front street, was kept awake until early hours of morning with the activity of people from the club opposite .

« Hot room, awkward access, lovely staff »

The room was uncomfortably hot - there was a fan but out of reach on top of wardrobe. It was down a long set of winding corridors - which were a bit smelly as several rooms had uncollected leftover room service sitting outside. Bathroom looked run down - chipped bath and old fashioned shower. I was surprised - not usual Accor standard. Just one night and I was leaving very early so it didn't seem worth mentioning anything but I wouldn't stay there again. Staff were lovely and very helpful.

I was there for a night with my family of 4 for my son's graduation. We checked in around 3 pm on 10th July. The first person to greet guests at a hotel is usually the receptionist. Your receptionist was preoccupied and we seemed like an inconvenience for her to accomadate. She spoke to us with an absolute indifference and annoyance when we asked for the car park direction which I didn't appreciate in the least bit. We had a long 7 hour flight this attitude was very unnecessary. Even the next day when I requested her to let us check out an hour later than noon as my son's ceremony might overrun, she was very curt in her response. By having a receptionist with a better attitude towards the guest makes the stay very warm and welcoming. I hope Mercury in Southampton trains their customer facing employees better. On the hand your manager who spoke to us the nex day- she was extremely polite and we didn't even mind paying the extra charges to her.

Not very enjoyable, room was much smaller than expected and explained on the website, have stayed at the hotel before and had a much better experience so was very disappointed on my visit this time around. No air conditioning in an extremely small and hot bedroom due to the mid July weather. Phone in the room was broken - having to go down to order room service to then be told they were aware I was trying to call the main desk

Very busy when we arrived as many Guests arrived at same time and could have done with more staff, especially as the lift was playing up. Room very hot due to heatwave.m

The welcome was perfunctory, but failed to give information regarding checkout or breakfast. The room was generally clean (always a plus), but the public areas needed refreshing. I understand that air conditioning is not possible, but a more effective fan would have been welcome. Overall, our stay could be classified as okay, nothing more.

« very poor bedroom and so small bed »

the room was nothing like seeing them on the internet?? the room was very small could barely move round the room. The bed was so small for a double. There was no Air Conditioning. The bathroom was very poor the sink was terrible and the tap was swinging around. I do not usually have to complain at any hotel we go to but this one was very bad??? The staff were very unpleasant to us and never ever smiled we were being treated like aliens!!!! I would like part on our money refunded forthwith as it was not worth the stay. We had a evening meal and ordered the Chicken dinner and we were brought a fish meal i said to the waiter we ordered chicken and he said it was chicken and had to look at it to see it was really fish??? so he said we now have to wait for the chicken as he had put the wrong order into the chef??? So we had to wait another 15mins for our chicken dinner which we did not eat much of it and left!!!! We are elderly people and should not be treated in this way and we have traveled all over the world and cruised most of the world and been in some beautiful hotels and expected better from this hotel and when booking on line and seeing the hotel on line you portray the Hotel much better than it is in real life????? We are very unhappy with the whole stay and will never book this hotel when in Southampton on our next Cruise. So we would like a refund forthwith!!!! Beryl Clayton

« Overpriced »

We arrived late in the evening, room pretty tired, bathroom pretty poor - plug not working in sink, shower attachment very poor quality and couldn't be raised high enough for me or my husband, all just very shoddy. For the price I would have expected more. Stayed at the West Quay Novotel the next evening and that was more of what I expected. Wouldn't stay again.

« A let down on this occasion with regard to the room and breakfast service. »

We firstly found the room shabby and in need of a deep clean. The paint on the radiator was peeling off to reveal the previous coat of gold paint. Behind and between the radiator fins was thick of dust.The person who painted the skirting boards in the room got more paint on the carpet! There were dirty finger prints around the main light switch. The wood frame around the mirror in the bathroom has been splashed with dirty water and not cleaned. And just to top all that we were awoken at 05:45hrs in the morning by a delivery to the hotel by a lorry delivering bedding which was in metal racks that made a lot of noise when pushed over the cobbled court yard. The buffet breakfast was a let down in that items such as eggs, sausages and croissants ran out. We sat at a table next to the window. On the window sill were two dead flys and crumbs left from the previous occupants of the table.

The seriously over priced ! the room was basic and dated , we were at the front of the hotel and the noise level was unbearable even with the ear plugs that were supplied in the room. the breakfast was ok but definately poor the the price charged. I would never stay or recommened anyone to stay at this Hotel.

« Great location, very small room but comfortable enough, pricey for what you get, adequate buffet breakfast, very nice staff. »

The location was nice. The hotel is old and not as nice inside as I had expected. The room was a long way off and difficult for 80+ to drag luggage on the carpet and up ramps, through doorways and beyond! The room was quite small, but comfortable and was on the 2 no floor facing the courtyard. It was quiet, clean, and had a tea kettle and amenities for tea and coffee. However it was hot and stuffy so we opened the window.there was a fan available.The breakfast buffet was good.the staff were very friendly and helpful. A great place for post cruise. I would not rate it beyond a 3 star.
