Although part of a hotel group, this Mercure has the massive advantage to make use of old buildings, so you get the feel of an individual hotel. In addition facilities were fine & staff extra friendly and helpful. Great place to stay.

Stayed here overnight with my bridal party before getting married locally . We had a privlage room which was massive . Then stayed on our wedding night before using the stay and cruise parking service and transferring to port for our honeymoon

I was given an upgraded room which was very pleasant but not the easiest for me to access with a non-wheeled suitcase and then stairs. There were the usual benefits in the room but Wi-fi access was dreadful the entire time I was there. (An allegedly good signal, but actually nothing.) The evening meal and breakfast were both excellent, as was the service. A gin and tonic in the bar was superb and to be sampled!

My room was lovely with a large modern bath but the windows opened directly on to the sidewalk where the laundry trolleys went by (noisily) at 7 am.

Re my stay The 1st night Stay was in room 204 Fantastic big rooms Sadly the room was so hot fans where supplied in the rooms Sadly unable to use the bedroom fan as Not a single socket in the room apart from the one the tv was plugged into and impossible to turn off the bedside lights As no switch resorted in removing the bulbs Apart from that it was a good room Moved to another room called Ventura So much better Rooms all very clean and well appointed Reception staff very helpful and efficient Breakfast was disappointing Went down at 8.30 only 6 others in no fresh bread left had to ask 3 times to place my order for breakfast Eggs and sausage was good but the rest quite poor so not up to the normal standards Opted out of having breakfast the second day went to the local cafe next to the hotel Overall good stay and will stay again but not in room 204 or have breakfast sorry Mike c.

Each time we come back to the Dolphin from our cruise to pick our car up approx. 7am in the morning, we ask to use the communal toilets. Year on year they are always filthy. This really needs to be looked at. It spoils what usually is a great experience from the Dolphin.

We were very disappointed due to our room being filled with cigarette smoke. This was due to people being allowed to sit on our window cill leaning against our window smoking. This went on till 1am. The saving grace was the bed was comfortable

We arrived Tuesday 7th Sept at 4.30. No hot water so no shower and reported issue. Next morning still no hot water but blame was put on power cut during the night. Came back later in the day and still no hot water. Engineer came and agreed. Next morning my wife had a shower and bravo there was hot water. Later in the day I wanted a shower and no hot water. Thursday still no hot water. Left early Friday and still no hot water. We reported the matter several times at reception and staff there were very apologetic. Only late Thursday did they suggest a room change. I asked them to advise General Manager of my concerns and late Thursday a complimentary bottle of wine and fudge delivered to our room together with a letter offering a free night on our next stay.

The city centre had experienced a power cut over this period, which in turn, tripped our boiler system. When the team had attempted to reset, there appeared to be some fault. With this in mind, an engineer was called on site to resolve the issue to which I am pleased that he did. I have taken the opportunity in reviewing our crisis management manual to prevent similar occurances from happening again. I do hope that you will take up my offer on a complimentary nights stay, and would ask you to contact me directly on a chosen date so that I can ensure you are well looked after. The first room we got had unbearable heat so we asked to move room. Got another room which wasn't quite as warm but the windows didn't open. It is an old building and unless you make sure the door closes softly then you are awoken by a slamming door. My partner found a bit of plastic and something hard in her cooked breakfast. The waiter said he was new and would have to check the policy. After waiting 10 minutes we just decided to leave it. The power had also cut out over night which meant the showers were freezing. We were given a free lunch due to this though. Overall it was a pretty disappointing stay and we don't plan to come back.

« Someone smoking cannabis outside our room at 5am so had to close our window as the smell was horrible »

We was allocated a table at breakfast, we went to to get our breakfast after waiting 10 mins for eggs and bacon we went back to our allocated table to find someone was sitting there at our table I told the waitress that was our table .. and her response was find another table .. which I find unacceptable.
