We always look for older historic hotels when in Europe. They always seem to be centrally located and near all the places we want to visit since we walk everywhere. This was exactly what we were looking for. It was clean, bathroom was updated, breakfast was delicious, people were very nice and how can you go wrong staying where Jane Austen had her debutante party.

Unfortunately check in was not good. I had booked 3 doubles and one twin room 6 months in advance. On checking in I was told no twin room was a but we could have a double with a sofa bed. As this was for 2 gentlemen one who was in his 60s and the other over 6 feet tall this was unacceptable. After 10 minutes of talking amongst them self’s they sent the 2 gents to a twin room. On opening the bedroom door they found it was a double. Back to reception to inform them if this , they just laughed and said they hadn’t changed the system and sent them to another room.No apology was forthcoming.

Two of your party had arrived before the other two and as all four bedroom bookings were in one name, there was some slight confusion on requirements. Convenient location with parking. Large comfortable room, although toilet blocked on morning of our departure. Did not use restaurant , or any of hotel facilities as access to room from outside pathway.

Overnight stay unexpectedly extended with no fuss

Having booked to stay only one night this had to be extended due to car problem. Timi on reception was superb, nothing phased her as she prevented a drama from becoming a crisis although the hotel was full. The bar staff were also very pleasant and helpful. On the deficit side, part of the carpet under the window in our room didn't seem to have been hoovered recently and the windowsill area of the bar was rather dusty. A spillage by a table in the bar seemed to have been overlooked on Saturday afternoon although this had been mopped up later in the evening.

Very good experience. However, the shower in the Oceana room could be very dangerous due to lack of properly placed grab bars to aid with entry and exit.

Very pleasant time, and friendly staff. during our time with the Stereoscopic Society. We would have appreciated biscuits in our hotel room with the tea and coffee, and also at our evening meetings when coffee was served for the next two nights, members of our group purchased biscuits.

Location of the hotel was very central to Southampton shopping centre, hotel staff were friendly and accommodating. Bathroom could have been in slightly better condition.

Cruise Package

Have stayed here many times for the cruise package. Always enjoy the hotel room, breakfast and parking. I have never received a voucher for a welcome drink, should I have done? Not impressed with the taxi service included in the cruise package any more. The last two occasions have been with Radio taxis and they do not seem to be anywhere near as good as Westquay taxis. In November 2018 the taxi did not arrive at the hotel, on asking at reception it would seem the fault was with Radio taxis. They then sent one which was not the size requested by the hotel originally and our cases were squashed in on their ends in the front seat. Today, May 12th, waited a long time after the first call to them and did not get a text so rang them again and was told there would be one soon. Got two texts to say a taxi would be there soon, no details of the car. Went and asked a Radio taxi on the rank, no help, just about to ring again when a text came and the car arrived. Quicker today to have got one off the rank! Plenty of Westquay taxis arriving all the time.

I am incredibly frustrated to read of the issues that you had encountered with Radio Taxis and I have passed these onto their Managing Director. I have a planned meeting with them this week to discuss so thank you for sharing this feedback. It was an incredibly difficult decision to take when leaving West Quay Cars however, we had also received numerous complaints about their service. In addition, more recently, many of their drivers have either gone to work for Radio Taxis or Cab my Ride, another local supplier. With this in mind, I do believe that West Quay will be able to support our demand. Nevertheless, the service our recommended taxi supplier gives to us, is an important one and these issues need resolving to prevent similar experiences. We had booked a room for 1 night and 8 days parking as we were going on a cruise, on arrival the car park isn’t the easiest to find and there was no room to park, this was soon remedied by the the excellent staff but was a little worried when we arrived

The staff were very helpful and knowledgeable. Excellent food was served up at both breakfast and dinner. The bed was comfortable, and a good night's sleep was the norm. Room servicing was unobtrusive and of a high standard. The bathroom window curtain was missing. The room safe had a flat battery, it was replaced promptly. The hotel is very handily placed for visiting the city, and the extended carpark in the multistorey next door is a good idea. I recommend this hotel to all.
