Very shabby hotel .threadbare carpets.worn out bedrooms.none existent disabled accomadation.no access to walk in shower no grabb rails. When booking a well deserved break the whole experience was disappointing,.we wrote to the manager and from her responce we think she do well in government whitewashing the issues raised.will not be going there again.michael Hampton Worcestershire.

The room was amazing and we felt very privileged to be sleeping in there. Good but breakfast shambollic. Continually running out of eggs, bacon etc and not enough staff to replenish so stood about waiting for parts of your breakfast.

We recently stayed in a Mercure hotel in Edinburgh which we were delighted with. Therefore we decided to play safe and booked the Mercure Dolphin in Southampton expecting the same quality and surroundings. We booked a disabled room as my wife uses an electric wheelchair. The first room we were allocated was totally unsuitable. The doors were only just wide enough for her chair. The room was to small for her to get around and there was a rounded step half way across the room into the bathroom. The bathroom had a shower over the bath and no hand rails. We were shown another room which was much larger which we reluctantly accepted. The bath room still had a over the bath shower with no safety rails and she was unable to turn around in the bathroom. Consequently she had to manage as best she could for 3 days. In addition, the bed supplied for our grandson was a sofa bed situated in a type of alcove which only left about two inches either side of the bed. Therefore, to get in and out of the bed you had to launch yourself in and clamber to the end of the bed to get out. Also, the only window in the room was in this small alcove. We understand that there are ninety nine rooms in the hotel. Based on £100 per room, seven days per week, that equates to £7000 per week. £28,000 per month etc, etc. you can see where I'm going. The carpets were shabby and the whole place needs updating and a complete makeover. The only plus was the excellent position of the hotel and the staff were very friendly. We had phoned the hotel to make sure they had a disabled room and this will be on record so there was no excuse. Also, in the lift there is a sign, as in all hotels, stating that in the event of a fire, do not use the lift. Therefore one might think that it might be a good idea to put disabled people on the ground floor. The people who disign these disabled rooms need to consult with proper diabled people to actually learn what problems theyface with so called disabled facilities. I might be a nice gesture for the Mercure group to offer us some sort of compensation as we are member of the Le Club Accor Hotels No 30…58AA A voucher for future use would go some way to compremise

We enjoyed our stay, the room was clean, breakfast was good, staff helpful. We would certainly stay with you again. Our only criticism was the room and corridors were very hot. We did have a fan in the room which helped a bit.

Everything was great except two things with the bathroom in our room. It faintly smelled of sewage the whole stay and there was a hot spot on the floor under the sink that would heat up the whole room over the course of a day.

Stayed in room 105. Mattress - horrible... no plugs next to the bed. Bathroom and toilet - never have seen this before - like old flat facilities - not looked after - sink hanging from the wall, paint chipped. Wouldn’t walk barefoot on the carpet.. Gave 5 because team was very polite, room service very good with nice food. Overall hotel definitely not for me and not sure who gave 4* for this product.

There were good points, early access to the car park, early access to our room, (we had a commitment mid afternoon so important), decent room and in a quiet area. However, theroom price seemed quite , (relative to the offers we'd received via email prior to actually booking), and there was no "give" when we asked for a discount on breakfast instead of the offered discount on a dinner. Overall, we enjoy staying at the Dolphin.
