« Sunday night business stay »

I stay here regularly when on business , as I had an early Monday morning meeting booked Sunday night. My experience was as normal but for just the fact that being Sunday night he hotel was not at all busy but i was still allocated a room just about as far as possible from reception, restaurant and the leisure facilities. Surely if the hotel was not fully booked a room nearer the facilities wouldn't be an issue?

« Fire Alarm / Poor Food »

Fire Alarm went off for 1 minute at 12pm - no apology or explantion from reception who were unaware. I took hours to get back to sleep after this Restaurant Meal - Mussels were over cooked and after complaining no apology was given or credit to my bill.

The room was very dated, and at 1am in the morning I was woken by water dripping through the ceiling then the alarm went off. I then had to change rooms in the middle of the night not good at all.

« Somewhat uncomfortable »

Found the numerous small stairways up and down tiresome, especially when negotiating them with large suitcases (we stayed for 4 nights and thus had significant luggage - no offers of help with luggage). Swimming pool rather small and unusual depth patterns (only deep enough for us in one central area) - access to pool via ladder steps unsuitable for us, both overweight and somewhat infirm (we prefer gentle stairs down into the pool from poolside, with a shallow area to accommodate the underwater stairs). Arrived 2pm, stated check-in time, but had to wait in lobby for over 30 minutes - were offered (and accepted) coffee for the wait, but this never arrived. On one day servicing of room omitted a set of fresh towels. In general breakfast was excellent, both service and choice, though the juice from a dispenser was dreadful, watery and tasteless (all 6 variations on offer) - on the day this dispenser was out of action, orange juice in jugs was better in taste, but wrong temperature (lukewarm)

Generally ok. We paid extra for an upgraded room. I would have expected a coffee machine and a better choice of biscuits. Also the complimentary water, one of the bottles had been opened (seal broken on the bottle cap).

Breakfast was mixed up, we were told it was included on check in and refused at breakfast. Confusuon about if we could buy a breakfast voucher on the day. Rrceptionist couldnt remember us... but there were four of us in west ham shirts and dressed as mexicans (how do you forget that).. i was called and emailed on my way driving back to london to say the payment had been declined only for it to have benn accepted when i finally got though calling back you payment line 2 days later. im sticking with my platanam IHG in future.

« Typical Mercure - Not the Best but Adequate, maybe better than the average Mercure »

Mercure seem to focus on hotels from other hotel groups, purchase them when they are "over the hill", do some refurbishment. This hotel is somewhat dated, or of a period. Their restaurant had been closed in the evening and used for a bus party. The only restaurant open was their franchisee Carter & Fitch that specialised on "American" style cuisine and portion sizes. This meant that my choice was a little limited and exhausted after three nights. The reception staff were very good when on duty, sometimes a wait was required. Never did the golf, wished I had given it a try, next time I will as it seems to be reasonable value for money. Overall OK and intend returning.

« Nice hotel »

Nice room. Good gym service. Lovely restaurant. Only trouble was finding anyone on reception. Had to wait to check in, and no-one was there to check out.

« Great stay »

Second visit to the hotel and if anything it was better than last time. Room, service, food and facilities where all great. Good to see the pool has been sorted and much warmer. All staff really helpful and friendly and it all works well. Only points to improve relate to lockers using old £ coin and low staff levels in the restaurant on Thursday evening (24/8) otherwise great.

Decent hotel. Reception staff were a bit offhand as were the staff at breakfast. Restaurant provides basic fare & is certainly not a gourmets delight! However, the restaurant staff were friendly & enthusiastic.

« Hotel Stay »

The Hotel was very nice looking from the outside. Bedroom needed updating, shower and room smelled damp, but was okay. We had a room right next to some building work and given we didnt really arrive till late it wasn't too much of an issue but would have been nice to look out of windows onto something nice. Limited TV channels and TV for size of room not big enough. The jacuzzi bath made an horrendous noise, so whilst a nice touch not that satisfying. Staff very friendly and area very nice. The breakfast was okay but the price charged for this was a little excessive given the food only aired.

« On the whole not a good stay. »

Potential upgrade for platinum member not offered or denied. No complimentary drink offered Room was the furthest away from reception. Room was above an unofficial smoking area. This meant people chatting and the bag smell of cigarette smoke in our room. Internet non existent. No drinking water in room.
