I looked long and hard before booking what I hoped would be a luxury break on the peaceful French coast for my wife and young son, sadly it was neither peaceful or luxurious! Our expectations were raised when we took a call from the hotel a few days before, while driving to Paris, asking what size gowns we needed for the spa, this was the first time my wife learned where we were heading and when I explained her anticipation was even greater… sadly on arrival those expectations came crashing down! We were told the spa would be closed for the duration of our stay, although if we cared to take a short walk across the main road we would be allowed to use the spa in the Ibis Hotel, not what we expected nor wanted! We were then informed a ‘film’ was being made in the hotel during our stay and we were asked to be considerate when moving around and not make any noise, and avoid certain areas while filming was happening!! As a hotel branding itself as a ‘luxurious boutique hotel’ the least you could do is make guests aware that the spa would be closed, and a film was being made! Indeed when we checked in we were told ‘it’s on both our websites’! I checked both websites immediately and neither mentioned the restrictions, and not once were they updated. It’s misleading at best, deliberate mis-selling at worse, thinking guests would be happy to use another hotels spa and pay the price of yours and then have guests accommodate a film crew who had total disregard for your guests, such as smoking where they saw fit and telling guests to be quiet while shooting scenes and having to make your way around movie equipment doesn’t make for a peaceful stress free break! On the one occasion we decided to use the restaurant, we were told to come back at 7 because the film crew were busy using it. So, we took a drink on the terrace, where again we were ‘chaperoned’ by the film crew and told when to be quiet and when not… when we eventually came back to see if we could book a table we were told it was now full, but we could eat in the bar, where we waited 25mins before I eventually went to the bar to order a drink. Seriously, having two young bar staff look after the whole bar and terrace area, while the restaurant was overrun with staff does not make for a great service, especially when they both struggled to understand what was being asked and were clearly unable to cope with the demand… On a positive note, the staff were exemplary, and nothing was too much trouble and kept apologising when they ‘felt’ they needed to even though we’d said nothing! Unfortunately, we weren’t offered any reduction in the rate as compensation for the lack of spa access or the inconvenience of the film crew. One would have been tolerable, but to be forced to endure both was totally unacceptable for a hotel of the standard expected, on this occasion we were severely let down by the Accor Brand and the Hotel.

A very interesting experience with many helpful and efficient personnel (especially Audry (?) Duty Manager). Room 112 a little small for a MGALLERY, but, this was a hotel MERCURE before and you cannot 'push the walls', but, with a very nice sea view terrace; similar experience with the rooms of the MERCURE CHAMBÉRY (Mont Blanc) which used to be a NOVOTEL. Only two (2) remarks from my wife about the value of the €25 breakfast; (i) no cold/cooked vegetables, including cherry tomatos (see PULLMAN MADRID, MGALLERY PRAGUE, PULLMAN BORDEAUX ++++, and, (ii) the yoghurts in glass jars seem to have been made with powdered milk (read the small print) and tasted as if some pork fat had been introduced during the manufacturing process. NOTA : These are just comments not full criticisms. We will return but this time for a longer stay.

Cjatelaillon Plage is a charming seaside small town very close to La Rochelle and Ile de Ré. An ideal spot to relax, enjoy sea view, beautiful inside/outside swimming-pool with wonderful NUXE SPA installations, and also to visit the area with less than 30mn drive. Nice experience at Gaya for 2 dinners too after busy days, it's confortable to have dinner at the hotel. We had a Junior Suite in Dupleix very bright with a wonderful view over the sea and swimming pool, accessible through a nice garden. The only deception was the breakfast where service was amazingly long and buffet often empty with no refill unless we asked for. The fresh orange juice was gazeifeid, and not as fresh as one's could expect in such a high snatding hotel. We'll definitely come back hoping these small details will have improved by then.

« A lovely hotel with high standards of service »

On arrival at the hotel we were met and welcomed. Our bags were taken up to our room while we completed the check-in process in the very comfortable foyer. We were then given a short tour of the facilities by one of the very helpful receptionists, ending at our room. We had booked an ocean view room which was spotlessly clean and well appointed. The spa offered a range of services and seemed to be popular with guests. The pool is very impressive and the water is comfortably warm. There is no shallow area which may pose difficulties for some disabled people. The restaurant is beautiful and breakfasts are superb. In the evenings, we used both the main restaurant and the bistro. We really enjoyed the main restaurant, the bistro less so. The seating in the bistro is not suited to some disabled people, with some seats being far too low and others being a bit high with little support for the back. The menu is also, in some cases, insufficiently descriptive. The black pizza came as a bit of a surprise and we had no idea what a ‘black’ Croque Monsieur happens to be. At the end of our stay, we were taken by shuttle to our next hotel. We are very happy with our experience overall and will be making further bookings at this grade of hotel. The staff were all very pleasant and attentive and we would like to thank them all for their contribution to a lovely holiday.

We had a wonderful stay and the hotel is beautifully renovated with great staff. But I want to give one point of feedback. There is a lack of communication between your reservation staff and the spa services. I had made a reservation at the Nuxe Spa by telephone. When I received the pre-arrival email from Reservation Services three days before my arrival, asking me if I wanted to make any spa bookings, I asked your staff to verify whether I had already booked at the Nuxe Spa because I did not have an email confirmation from the spa. Reservation Services responded, "Malheureusement je n’ai aucune réservation à votre nom au SPA Nuxe, si vous souhaitez effectuer une réservation, vous pouvez les contacter au 05 46 56 52 77." I did not have time to follow up on this and assumed that I did not have a reservation. At the day and time of the spa booking, I received a call from Spa Nuxe because I did in fact have a reservation and the spa was wondering where I was. This breakdown in communication ultimately caused confusion and caused you to lose a spa client. It would have been helpful to have received some sort of proactive reminder from the spa, in advance, or to have better information exchanged between the spa and the hotel. Had the hotel given me the correct information I would have made it to my booking! Otherwise I had a wonderful time and would recommend this hotel!

We came to enjoy a good rest on the seaside with our 7 years old before the arrival of our twins. The four days we spend there were simply amazing: the staff was delightful and provided great service. From the doorman to the bar/restaurant, spa and reception everybody our experience was perfect. Thank you very much !!! Ps: my wife loved the place so much that she ended up delivering in La Rochelle on our departure day . Our newborns Charlotte and Hugo are doing great and say « hi »

following a hefty refurb this is a smart hotel but the rooms classed as superior are dark and small. the facilities in room lacking. no room service menu no minbar etc. service underwhelming. tried to assist but so disorganised. restaurant not open till 730 and no bar food til then consequently putting pressure on staff and guess kitchen such that service very poor. I want to return but been put off by the service and small room. so many teething issues and no real manager seems to be in charge
