Over night stay, staff very pleasant and helpful. Room nice and clean. A little bit hot in room, fan did help, but still a little bit hot. Would definitely stay again. Location good.

« Modernize the Hotel Rooms »

Most of the problems during my stay stemmed from the condition of the room. Most of the other aspects of the hotel, such as the breakfast, the bar, and the cobblestone pathway leading to the patio, contributed to its charm and patio. The rooms need upgrading with the following suggestions: 1. I would recommend installing a central HVAC system, which would require replacing windows. 2. The electronics / appliances in the room, were outdated, such as the device to make hot water, the television, and the ability to plug in your electronics next to the bed. 3. The bathroom design was not conducive to safely getting into and out of the shower. 4. The safe in the room I stayed in did not work appropriately, and also could have been modernized. 5. Lastly, the WiFi did not work appropriately, and I had several attempts to go outside of the room to access the WiFi.

Great, friendly en very helpful staff. Nice old building in the center of Reading. I had a single bed room. It was not a very big room, but I just spend the nights there so for me it was convenient enough. If I visit Reading again that I will choose this hotel.

Room was too hot, bed wasn't very comfy, fan didnt' cool room down and was noisy, breakfast didnt' start until 7am and i had to be in the office for a meeting then.

« Great for Reading centre »

I was bounced from the Ibis Styles into the George - not sure if this was exactly an 'upgrade' as spun by the receptionist :). It's not modern but it has character. There is no lift and I was on the top (5th) floor so it was a bit of a climb. There is no aircon so the room was a bit warm - there was a fan provided but I did not use it I just opened the windows. Room was basic and clean and the floor is springy (told you it has character!) so the furniture jiggles around while you walk around the room. The 'included' breakfast was continental only which is cereal, bread and fruit nothing special.

We are glad that you liked our unique building with personality, even though the floor can be a bit irregular sometimes and there is no lift, as you mentioned. Unfortunately we do not have air con but there is a fan in the room plus plenty of fans available on request on reception. Breakfast included in that rate was continental but we do also have English breakfast on request. Because of my Platinum status the hotel did its best to upgrade my room. For two nights I was even double upgraded which is not a requirement (but should be in my opinion for Platinum status as it is for Black in Kempinski scheme). So overall happy with the hotel.

It’s a great location for a night out in Reading, the staff were really friendly and welcoming and the room was clean and comfortable. There wasn’t any air on but a fan had been left so I slept very well.

« Pleasant, clean but a touch noisy. »

Had a really great stay, location was perfect for work. However I wouldn't stay with my young children as it was in the front of the building it was extremely noisy at times. Apart from that, I enjoyed my stay, the room had practically all I could ask for. Fridge was a nice bonus too! The shower was very hot, even on a lower number, strangely only during the morning. Clean room and friendly staff. Thank you for a pleasant stay.

Expensive for a single box room. Corridor smelt of sick. Location yes is good but there are plenty more hotels in the area with a much better standard. It’s disappointing as me and my team have moved offices to reading and will need hotels weekly. This hotel will not be on our list to stay again

I read some bad reviews at tripadvisor: smelly mattress, noisy rooms, etc... but I still choose the hotel because I fancied the Tudor-historic look of the building. The alternative was the plain and grey IBIS hotel which I didn't like. I made the right decision, the atmosphere of the building was great and the location unbeatable (much better than the IBIS, as I could see once was in Reading). The room was clean, the WIFI strong enough for videocall and the staff was friendly
