« worst hotel experience ever »

I'm sorry to say that this was the worst hotel experience in my life. I work in the hotel industry (Marriott) and travel a lot and I've seen bad hotels but never in my life I've experiences such a bad property. The room I got was ridiculously small - How can you sale such a room actually? The shower was small and dirty, with a broken door. The blinds wouldn't roll up as well. There was hairs all over the sink. The trash can had not been emptied and there was still a box of tampon and a tissue in it. I actually took a picture of the trash and spoke and send it to the front desk. She reported everything to the management but it's been 1 week now and nobody has got back to me... So this stay was ridiculously bad...

This was the second time we had stayed at the George. The hotel receptionist is very efficient and very helpful. She was concerned when my wife was breathless and offered us another room on the ground floor. She could not have been more helpful.

« Exemplary reception staff, great choice at breakfast central location »

From moment arrived to departure, staff were polite and friendly. Room was spacious, quiet (as requested) and not bothered about having a brick wall as a ‘view’. Centrally located about a 10 min walk from station and 1 minute from The Oracle shopping centre.. Breakfast was extensive and service was fast without being rushed. A good value 2 night stay.

Was only for one night The room had two single beds one had collapsed springs and was very uncomfortable. The light fitting was vibrating at night and making a loud noise And the TV on arrival did not work. The staff where great and replaced it with one that did. The food was lovely both breakfast and royal tandoori The hotel was very close to our chosen meeting place

Understand the building is old and historic there is no excuse for the 1970s decor the lack of air conditioning the absence of any modern facilities the shower was weak cheaply put together the room was dated and sparse not even a bottle of water you seems to be a standard these days for over £130 simply not good enough

Wonderful. The receptionist was very helpful and friendly. She is a great asset to your team. The room was very impressive, especially the bathroom and the bed was comfortable. The only downside was breakfast, when there was no gluten free bread available for toast. I am Coeliac and have to be very vigilant with my gluten free diet! Apparently I should have asked for it when I checked in. I don’t think this is acceptable today as most hotels I have stayed in have gluten free food readily available. I know you may not have call for it every day, but the bread can be frozen and defrosted before toasting. That said, I will certainly stay with you on my next visit to Reading.

On the first day of stay there were no soap and any other bath accessories. Water sink had two separate taps - one for cold and one for hot water, which could be acceptable taking into account age of the building, but cold water tap had also hot water, so I had no source of cold water at all.

« Enjoyable stay with great staff »

Always stay at the George. The staff are very professional and helpful. On this stay Bianca helped a great deal with issues with the TV. Also Anna is always smiling and friendly the reception staff are a credit to the hotel. The only downside to this visit was the noise from outside on the second night. This is outside of the hotels control but I was in one of the better rooms which might cause concern for future guests.

It was a comfortable stay. The room was clean. The bed was very comfortable. The carpet was plush. The staff were very helpful. The breakfast staff were extremely efficient. The staff demonstrated a particular attention to detail by ensuring I had a peppermint teabag in my room each day, as they must have gathered that I am partial to a peppermint tea in the evening! What I particularly loved was the charm of the quaint historical building. Although I think the sizeable gap under the door could have been rectified, and some of the furniture was tired.
