BikerBear143 Business - 19/07/2019 TripAdvisor review

Date of stay: 15 July 2019. The hotel is set in a beautiful area and has been converted from an old country house. Plenty of parking spaces but quite poor signage - I initially parked in front of the leisure club thinking it was the reception (they could also do with some more obvious exit signs, too, for when you leave). My check-in was a little disappointing - no particularly friendly greeting or smiles from Emily just a hello. I was given only one key (for two guests) and had to ask for the other, neither was I given my complimentary (membership) drinks vouchers. When I asked for them I was given one rather than two (this has never happened at any of the other Accor hotels I have stayed in), when I asked for the other voucher she said, rather sharply, it's one voucher per member not one for each guest in the room on the booking! As I started to explain that this was the first time I had been told this the male receptionist said, very quietly, give the lady the other voucher - I carried on with the comment I was making to which she replied (again sharply) - I am giving you another voucher, all right? I was given room 74 which is at the other end of the hotel and on the third floor - this entailed taking luggage down a long narrow corridor with a number of sets of fire doors and up in the lift. On entering the room it was stiflingly hot (it is up in the eaves with a sloping roof), the window is either painted or secured shut with a notice stating that the a/c works more efficiently with the windows closed - the only problem was that the a/c wasn't working properly despite it being set on the lowest temperature and the highest fan - only the faintest whisper of air was coming out of it and that was warm. Off down to reception to ask for a change of room which eventually, after the kind intervention of the male receptionist (Svetoslav, I think), was reluctantly given by Emily. The second room (05) was at the opposite end of the hotel, through the lounge area and up two short flights of stairs (no lift) however Svetoslav very kindly carried the cases up the stairs. This room was cool, with a new a/c unit, large and very well appointed. The TV seemed to have a good selection of channels and there was a kettle with tea/coffee provided. The bed was large with plenty of pillows - maybe a little soft for me (personal opinion) but I slept very well. The bathroom was spacious, clean and with complimentary toiletries and good quality towels. Plentiful hot water and an efficient over-bath shower. The bar is reached through a lounge area which also accesses the dining room (I did not eat at the hotel so cannot comment on the food although the menu looked pretty good if a little pricey) - there was a very strong smell of cooking fish both in the lounge and the bar which wasn't the best. The actual serving bar is round a corner and quite dark but there are plenty of seats in the more open area as well as seating around the outside of the lounge. The bar tender was extremely personable and friendly and greeted everyone with a smile - I wasn't able to get his name unfortunately. Overall it was a satisfactory stay - the bar tender and Svetoslav were excellent however, in my opinion, Emily needs to be a little less sharp and a little more approachable. Reception staff are the front line for guests in a hotel and a warm welcome, helpful attitude and a smile can take the edge off any small issues or problems a guest may have.

Extremely noisy

Poor. I stayed in the hotel as I was working a night shift, I was unable to sleep prior to my shift as my room was directly above a wedding party. The room itself was fine, though the radiator was broken and as such could not be switched off which isn't ideal when its over 20C outside and you cant open the windows due to the noise from the wedding below.

Convenient place to stay for an early next day meeting

The hotel was clean and quiet. The wifi was east yo connect to by unusable, in my experience, due to it being a very slow connection. It is used by my place of work but I would not recommend or use the hotel for my holiday plans

Women up by the fire alarm at approximately 6.30 am . Kept in the assembly area for approximately one hour . Could not make any reasonable phone calls because the alarm siren was persisting and finally could not have a warm shower because the boilers were off.

Not worthy of Mercure brand - truly awful

From check in to check out, very poor in all regards. At check in, my bedroom had a leak in shower and i had to be moved. At check out the computer in reception wasn’t working so was delayed whilst back office computer used. Between times, generally awful in terms of air con not working properly; tatty carpet in bedroom, horribly uncomfortable mattress and pillows. Also, very noisy with doors slamming and constant vibration in room from adjacent kitchen area. The worst hotel I’ve ever stayed at.

Good till fire alarm

Very good except the childrens play area

It is a lovely hotel but the children's play area is a disgrace. It is overgrown with weeds and nettles.I had a under two year old with me and had to supervise her all the times. The swings were both covered in birds droppings. It looks like it had not been cleaned for months/years.The wooden bench next to the play area was completely overgrown with plants and weeds making it impossible to sit on.The whole area should have a complete overhaul as it is a disgrace. If you cant do anything with it then it should be sealed off.It is a real health and safety problem. The outside furniture in the beautiful gardens also need replacing. It is such a shame as it is a beautiful hotel.

Dirty. Dated.

Expected More

Michael Couples - 10/07/2019 AccorHotels certified review

The toilet in my room was broken and not flushing. My call to reception was initially treated a bit contemptuously like a nuisance call. The young man who came to check had the same attitude. When the problem was discovered to be genuine, I was told too bad as the other rooms were full. It was not until I asked about where I could use a toilet as the manager was leaving the room that he explained to me that I had to keep opening the top of the cistern and pulling a plastic string to flush. This came off at the first attempt and therefore my partner and I had to keep dipping our hands in to the grimy cistern to flush the toilet. He offered a partial refund of my room charge. Separately, at breakfast, I felt that the service was not friendly, and also that I was being passed over for tea and coffee refills while the white couple sat next to me had constant offers to refill their cups. Overall, I expected more going by the profile and reviews of this hotel. Disappointing.

Firstly, on a positive note the staff were very friendly and helpful. However, the hotel felt very 'down at heel'. The car park had litter scattered over it, our room was adequate, but the bathroom was in need of a refurbishment. Our stay wasn't helped by the boiler breakdown and subsequent lack of hot water. I couldn't differentiate the taste of the tea and coffee at breakfast. The hotel is in a lovely position, but is in some desperate need of TLC.

I feel ripped off, all the 5 rooms didn’t have air con working and the hall I paid 150 for the Butterfield suite where I was told has air con but it wasn’t working, my guest all complained of been hot. Not happy

On check in we were told we’d been upgraded to a ground floor suite adjacent to reception. It was utterly dreadful with grim furniture and stained carpet. It smelled of damp with plaster peeling off a wall. The entry door from the public corridor would not close. We requested another room which was more acceptable however the entry door ceiling light did not work & was hanging down by its wires & the bathroom mirror’s integral lights did not work, all faults which should have been checked and rectified on a daily basis before the room was allocated to guests.

Ok stay

Darren W. Business - 05/07/2019 AccorHotels certified review

Having been checked in to room 86, I found that the A/C was not functional and there were no window coverings (meaning, even if I had been able to sleep in the heat, I would have been awake at the crack of dawn in any event). After being told there were no other rooms, another room was found for me (room 88) so, after moving my bags, I found that the A/C remote in room 88 was missing (but I by-passed the need for it by accessing the unit directly however, the temperature could not be set and the room was still too warm). To top it all off, the fire alarm went off at 5:30am, no-one told us why, no roll call was carried out, no-one told us it was a false alarm and safe to return and one of the fire doors was locked. The hotel is very tired, staff turnover appears shocking (new faces every week, I am told) and the efficacy and capability of the staff is low. A very poor experience for me and once I won't experience again as I will not be using the hotel in the future.

Cold showers the first night, broken handle on the window for 2 days so you couldn’t close it. Room 40 must be next to a boiler room it was so noisy we couldn’t sleep.
