« Basic rooms, poor food. »

Rooms are basic but functional apart from the pillows that are as hard as stone. Rooms near reception have a constant humming noise from some internal system that will keep you awake if you are a light sleeper. Restaurant is pricey and the food is seems to be styled on an up market restaurant but the fish dish I had on my last stay lacked any taste and a small piece of fish came with about two leaves of lettuce. But there are alternative pubs with great food a short walk away. Great Gym.

I had pre ordered and paid for a bottle of Prosecco which wasn't in the room when we arrived. I had to ring up which was embarrassing as it was a special occasion so defeated the object. I have discovered today that 8 have been charged twice for the Prosecco. The food was great and staff very friendly, I would like to visit again.

The hotel itself is okay. The staff at the hotel very friendly. The room was outdated, a little bit dirty, lampshade torn, lamp not working, telephone not working and overall a little tatty but we didn't mind too much. However the real problem arose when we went to use the pool next door. On checkout, we were told we did not need towels as all is provided at the pool - when we went to Nuffield next door (the use of the facilities advertised in the hotel booking) we were reprimanded for not bringing our own towels from the hotel. There is a serious lack of communication between the two services, and we were forced to trapse back to the hotel where we were told that the pool should provide them. I do think that the manager on duty at the pool was partly to blame for this - he was extremely argumentative and obstructive and made us feel bad about following instructions. The whole set up doesn't make sense. Overall quite disappointed. Will not return to this hotel, or to Nuffield health centres.

It was ok but there was never enough hot water for a bath, only a lukewarm shower and the light above the bath didnt work. Swimming pool was perfunctory with no atmosphere. Evening meal was great but service sloppy, had to ask for bread and to order.

Lovely room although no hot water available from 7pm till following morning evening reception didn't seem very concerned or helpful with this although on departure staff were very friendly and appolgetic,nice restaurant but food was very basic and not particularly tasty.

Like the food and swimming pool and the room, but room no3 was cold and did not get warm as only got one small radiator, put aircon on hot but it did not make any differrnce, thought the drinks where a bit exspensive at the bar. Like your hotel but will not be back in the winter only summer time.

The venue was lovely with fantastic features. The bar and lounge areas were delightful, and the staff are attentive and welcoming and a credit to you. However some furnishings are a bit worn and it would make the ambience more pleasant if repair or replacement is made to those, e.g. torn window netting, paint chips in back of bathroom door, broken lampshade in too, stained curtain in dining/conservatory area. There was space for coat hooks or stand in room 32 between wardrobe and back of door to room which would have been useful, as would a small refrigerator. In our room. We also found the pillows too flat (even when using two) and the mattress too soft. We prefer a firm mattress so a medium or firm mattress would have been ideal. The lighting on the mirror in the bathroom didn't work which was a shame as those mirrors with the modern interpretation of lights around the edges is a great feature, and useful too. If the reception area could be expanded that would be good as the location of it by the entrance made things a bit awkward and claustrophobic when there was a queue.

We have stopped at Letchworth several times and as usual the staff were excellent. The restaurant and bar were first class. Our only negative was that we had to have our room key recoded as it wouldn,t work one afternoon and as we were in room 86 it was a long way to reception. The room was very clean and overall it was a lovely experience. My only gripe is that although I am a member of accor hotels it is always cheaper to wait for a groupon deal

« Lovely place and lovely location, especially the old building. »

Room facilities need a little TLC, heated towel rail didn’t work, tv remote didn’t work and bathroom mirror light didn’t work but room was clean and all other facilities were fine. Hotel was a lovely building and location very remote which made it a lovely get away. Only negative was the supplement prices at dinner, why the overall cost didn’t include a full dinner is a shame and spoilt the package.

Staff were lovely helpful and accommodating. Food very good. However our room was very poor - had a constant noisy drone (from machinery, perhaps the extractor System) which Disturbed our sleep, but worst we had no hot water for many hours at a time, principally at times when we wanted to bath and shower, so had to go 3 days without this facility which was awful.
