I was away on business and this was a nice hotel. The only downfall was the extreme heating in my room, but I was able to change that within a reasonable time once I arrived.

« The electric car charge point and your proximity to Luton airport were the main reasons for choosing the Mercure »

Electric charge point and easy parking - perfect. Friendly staff and nice clean room. Left very early and my only gripe would be that I was promised that a bill would be put under my door before 4 am. It did not appear. It didn't matter as it was private stay. I inadvertently left my watch in the room and the staff were kind enough to find it and hold it at reception.

« Good overnight stay in Letchworth »

The hotel is clearly very popular and offers reasonable value for a well located property. Our room was simply but comfortably furnished with a clean, modern bathroom. The paintwork is in need of attention, however, both in the room and in the public areas, where some doors are badly scuffed. Staff were generally polite and efficient if a little lacking in warmth, the exception being the Eastern European cleanliness who were particularly friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was well stocked and good value, the tables in the light and airy conservatory were neatly laid with white linen cloths, and waiters appeared promptly to serve beverages and clear away ddishes. Overall, our stay was more than satisfactory: the general decor is in need of updating and there is a rather institutional feel to some of the public areas. If these factors could be addressed, this could be a very good option for an overnight stay.

Excellent accommodation, wonderful service and great staff. This was a wedding party and the hotel support in this regard was marvelous - second to none. HOWEVER, many of our guests who were staying with us at the hotel had paid at different rates (from between £45 and £70 per room) and this caused us embarrassment ! We had been given 'special' wedding rates but these did not get near those obtained elsewhere. Otherwise our involvement with the hotel was 100% positive.

First 2 rooms allocated had failed heating units. We were finally allocated a 3rd room on our return from an afternoon out. Maintenance seems an issue here as other party members also found. All rooms had light bulbs needed replacing. Our shower mixer knob was missing so the unit only supplied the shower. The temperature handle came off so the shower was difficult to use. This we reported on checking out. Storage is poor with only a 3 open shelving unit fixed in a double wardrobe which impeded hanging space. No other drawers were supplied. Room was comfy with 2 armchairs and table and warm as we now had a radiator in this room rather than a combined heater/A/C unit which had broken. The public rooms were warm. The dining rooms were nice and there was plenty of choice for an enjoyable breakfast. We found all staff pleasant and polite. Parking was easy and free of charge. There was free use of the adjoining Nuffield health centre for hotel guests. The hotel was set in extensive grounds in a lovely part of Letchworth. Better attention to basic maintenance issues and staff reception area would enhance guest experience and address the health and safety of reception staff.

Very relaxing easy check-in lovely warm room ,friendly helpful staff nothing too much trouble. Dinner very nice vegan option would be nice too. Hotel was very busy but it seemed to work although breakfast was a bit difficult!

We have stayed here a number of times and always enjoy our stay. We did feel the receptionist was under a lot of pressure, we wanted towels to go swimming and ended up queuing for around 20 minutes while the receptionist dealt with a number of queries which she did admirably. Maybe at check in guests should be asked if they require towels for the health centre and given them there and then to avoid having to queue again. We also thought the food at Lyttons was even better than the last time we stayed.

Arrived late (10pm) Not your fault but nothing available to eat until 11pm Telephone did not work so had to come to reception 3 times before my meal order was taken. No hot water in the shower in the morning although water was hot in the wash hand basin.

We stayed here for my birthday. It was a lovely large room with the morning sun streaming into both the bedroom and the shower room. The meal we had in Lyttons was delicious. Breakfast was serve yourself buffet. This was nice. But the eggs were a little overcooked for me. There was a comprehensive choice of food with the standard full English, pastries, cereal, fruit etc.

I have stayed at the Letchworth hall for over 30 years and like the hotel and it's location. The bar is a little "tired" and is always understaffed, but the staff are friendly and do their best. Rooms are comfortable and spacious especially in the new section, but all are clean and comfortable. Breakfast is good though in the evening I prefer to eat in the bar rather than the restaurant.

Overall, the stay was most enjoyable and comfortable. There was just one episode when we left our bedroom for the first time since arriving in daylight to attend an evening function we couldn't find our way to the stairs to go down. Being a little disorientated, both doors at the end of the corridor seemed to go to staff-only dark staircases. Eventually, we gingerly moved into the dark stairwell when the movement-sensor light switches came on and the correct staircase was illuminated!

All in all a pleasant place to stay, with a few problems. xAcknowledging that this is an old building: A few problems which meant changing room: 1st Room, No power in room, 2nd Room very noisy bathroom fan, not able to switch it off; 3rd and final rm: Broken radiator valve, room very hot (fixed myself!) and then chilly bathroom because not heated & management have switched off all the towel heaters (only source of any heat!). Also, during Room servicing, Half full bottles of water removed- these are charged! For those staying for a few days- Reuse of towels should be considered (I hung mine up for reuse however these were refreshed every day) as well as not replacing soap every day!

Visited letchworth for a funeral.stayed at hotel on previous visit ,Hotel is nice room was spacious and clean .bed was comfy .food in bar was very nice as was. Breakfast.staff were very friendly and helpful . Hotel could do with a good clean in several areas ,ie look at the curtains above the toaster in breakfast bar massive cobweb .
