I had read the reviews on the hotel and was a bit apprehensive to be honest but had emailed the hotel in advance and was told that everything was resolved. Overall we had a lovely stay but there is validity in the reviews that people have given and I can understand some of their concerns. To be clear, this isn't a spa hotel, its a hotel with a Nuffield Leisure centre next door, just a quick walk across from the hotel. The facilities there are good but its not a spa where you would sit and lounge and relax as its open to the public, and we were disappointed that there wasn't a jacuzzi to relax in. The steam room was excellent though. The main hotel is in very pretty grounds, and we had a lovely sunny crisp weekend of weather. We unfortunately arrived the same time as a wedding was about to start which took over the hotel for a while. The staff I have to say were lovely throughout, and tried to make sure that we weren't overpowered by the wedding party guests, acknowledging that we were paying guests too! Our room unfortunately was quite noisy, we had a fire door banging throughout the night which I think others have mentioned, room 87, but it was comfortable for the time we spent in there. We were on a meal package, the dinner was pleasant but the choice was limited and the service was slow. The food was well presented and hot, and again the waiting staff were helpful and polite. We were told to come down early for breakfast to avoid the wedding party rush so we came down at 8 am. The food wasn't ready and the toaster hadn't been warmed, so no way of getting your toast to go brown! The selection was ok, but not really hot enough and the couple next to us asked for their's to be microwaved but I think it came back colder than when it left them. I think that overall its a nice hotel in a pretty setting with staff who are friendly and helpful, I wouldn't say its special or that we were treated in any special way (and no one mentioned my birthday although they knew it was for my 50th birthday celebration), its good value for a weekend deal break but I wouldn't choose for a special occasion.

« Room was well decorated, however the bed had a big lump in the middle and the heating system was very noisey »

My overall experience of the hotel was positive, the staff were friendly, the room was very well presented and the breakfast was excellent. My only negatives were that the bed had a ridge in the middle where two smaller beds were pushed together making it uncomfortable to lay across, this meant that although it looked like a double bed I was only able to sleep on one side. There was also quite a loud humming noise from the heating system, like the sound of a generator or a large fan. I am quite a heavy sleeper and not usually affected by noises however this was loud enough to make it more difficult to get to sleep. A lighter sleeper would have had real issues sleeping through it. I did mention this to a member of staff on the first day who said they would ask the engineer to investigate, I did not get any feedback from that therefore I assumed that it was the running noise of the generator and there was nothing they could do about it.

My stay was ok after I was allocated a room upstairs. The pervious room was noisy (had a fan or motor noise on/off all night). Some days I would get milk with the tea some days I would not. My first night and on one other there was no soaps, shower gel etc. Breakfast was very good and the staff in the morning new how to treat the guests. The breakfast menu was very good. The evening staff were not so good although were polite and tried their best. At one stage the drinks were spilt over the table , me and the floor ! . The food was ok but way over priced for what it is.

« Nice to get away »

Overall a great stay, always good to be away without the kids! However we found the hotel needed some updating although we upgraded to a superior room. The room itself was lacking any modernisation along with being overly hot. We were unable to use the aircon as this did not work along with the windows being sealed shut (kind of strange & also I would have thought against Health & Safety Regs). Food was good & staff were very accommodating to our needs.

The bathroom did not have a 2-pin socket for shavers. The bedroom window did not open and the heating was too hot at night and cold in the morning. The bed was not long enough for my 6-foot partner. I had £25 taken from my credit card on arrival without my authorization. Then an attempt to pay £999 to Curry's on line website with my card during the night. Both transactions have been unauthorized by the bank. Finally in the restaurant the service was not up to standard. The food arrived before the wine.

In regards to your comments stated about the unauthorization of your card, i have checked with the reception manager and we can see on our system you booked via Groupon and we did not have your credit card details prior to your arrival, the only way we would have obtain these details if you would of given this to the receptionist upon check in. First impressions were fair. Better signage to reception would help. Staff very friendly and helpful. Room not quite up to 4☆standard. Some paint peeling, carpets rucked, trim missing on furniture, staples to the hem of the shower curtain, inoperative mirror light in bathroom and several areas of dusty surfaces. Not bad enough to stop us staying but the attention to detail was missing. These points were highlighted to reception. Restaurant was excellent both in the evening and breakfast.

The price was very good value as it included breakfast, three course dinner and a complimentary drink at the bar. The premises is surprisingly large - the lift is not close the reception desk for example. Food was great.

Nice hotel good food. Very good reception for my son. My room seemed to have a fan humming most of the night I think it was because it was close to the kitchen but it was surposed to be an excetive room. I would stay again but would ask for a room away from the kitchen

We had a wonderful early Valentines stay which was gifted to us following our wedding. The only cause for not scoring 10 was that our room (Willian Suite) was noisy early on the Sunday morning - we presume purely due to corridor traffic!

Relaxing and welcoming hotel but room 60 isn't really a superior room more of a budget room with its stained carpet, dirty toilet, quite a lot of dust, and patches on the door where the stickers used to be. Food in the hotel was lovely, and breakfast was good too. Overall our stay was really good, but the room let it down.

« A gr8 stay from start to end.... Cant wait to re visit. »

Wonderful. Staff very smart, polite and helpful. Everywhere clean. Bed room and main rooms presentable. A few areas around hotel in need of refurb but didnt take anything away from the stay. Added bonus use of gym, pool and sauna - again extremely polite and helpful staff If you only visit this hotel for the food alone you will not be disappointed. The tastiest food ive ever eaten in a hotel. We had afternoon tea, a 3 course dinner and breakfast and each was divine! ! Huge thank you to the chef!!

we upgraded from a standard room and the room was lovely, clean and tidy, had dinner in restaurant as it was included in our overnight stay, unfortunately we missed breakfast as we overslept. This was a 21st birthday gift and it was perfect I would definitely stay again.
