Hotel very good, dining options poor

Ellamobile Family - 07/11/2019 TripAdvisor review

i stayed here with my grandson who is in school nearby and had stayed before The manager on duty was extremely nice and helpful the staff were universally pleasant Rooms were good value for the price, clean and comfortable. the dinner, however, was unappealing, and the breakfast not great. Only two people running around a full breakfast room.

Reasonable could be better

Room had a radiator which I could not turn down. There was no telephone in the room so could not call room service or reception. There was one person serving in reception and had to wait for check in. Seemed like it was.m short staffed. Decent breakfast and decent hotel although in need of some modernisation. Sadly I could not experience the leisure facilities and it was too far away from the main hotel.

Bad experience

Adam L. Families - 05/11/2019 Confirmed reviews AccorHotels

The room was in a poor state of reapir and tired, for £184 it was way overpriced. The breakfast was terrible because everything kept running out and was served in such a small place we ended up giving up. My wife asked for a latte at breakfast and was told "not at this time of day"! What time of day can you get a latte then? Very strange.

Brief but pleasant

Enable to turn down/off the heating in the room and the staff also did not know how to which meant the room was overly hot and uncomfortable. Staff genuinely friendly and courteous.

The staff were lovely, a few issues with payment, food not 4*.

Staff were really nice and friendly. Had booked a deal of half board through Accor site, but this was not communicated with the hotel so there was confusion about how much to pay. This issue was resolved and we were given wine free as a gesture of good will. Food was ok, but not good value for money. No boiled potatoes so was given what appeared to be lumpy smash mash with small portion of salmon. Veg was only 1 single portion of spinach which was unexpected. Facilities and room were great.

The worst hotel I've ever stayed at

Mr L. Couples - 03/11/2019 Confirmed reviews AccorHotels

Once checked in to the hotel, my wife and myself walked past unpainted wooden doors (which gave the impression they had been vandalised). Once in our room, we noticed the phone socket phone had been broken, the phone was not present, the window frame was cracked and badly damaged - and the window was open. It turns out the window was open because the radiator was set to most powerful heat and the settings dial had been broken. As the room had no phone, I called reception using my mobile. After a very long wait, someone eventually answered - I asked if they could help. A man came to the room - he brought a fan with him. He couldn't fix the radiator as it was broken and he apologised. We did not have a good night's sleep due to the heat. In the morning we had showers - we could not use one of the towels as it had brown stains smeared across it, which looked disgusting. We went for breakfast and queued up as requested by a sign. Several members of staff who were chatting looked over at us and ignored us, then they walked off. Other patrons of the hotel ignored the sign and walked into the breakfast area and sat down - eventually, we just walked in and sat down as it became clear no staff member was interested in helping. We were served tea that looked like dirty dishwater - I've never seen anything like it. The gentleman at the table next to ours was quite vocal in his disgust that this was being served. We went to get food from the buffet area (around 10am), however there was no food - nothing had been restocked. Eventually we saw a member of staff and asked if some more food could be brought out. When we went to check out, I asked if I could speak to a manager, however I was told they were too busy dealing with an event, but was handed a card with an email address and was told to email instead. I will never use your hotels again. I have let my friends know how awful they are and I will continue to let people know, so they don't make the same mistake I did. The manager and area manager should be ashamed - I feel embarrassed for them.

Tatty place and bath inoperative

Bath taps not working. Had two maintenance guys in the room after midnight to get it working. But no luck. Carpets are awful and frayed in public areas. All in all my stay was unfit for purpose. However staff were sympathetic and helpful

Staff friendly and food good.

Staff were very helpful in pointing me in the quickest direction to get food and drink, including giving me menus at reception, as I had been stuck in a major traffic incident for a long time. The room and bathroom were pleasant and the bed very comfortable.

The bathroom was a challenge, particularly the position of the toilet. With the bed being up against the wall it’s a good job there weren’t two of us staying. For someone who had requested an accessible shower, the room was a long walk from reception.

This is the second visit to this hotel overall my stay with family was good staff were attentive and food was very good. Our room was in the old building and compared to my families in the new part was disappointing it needed some cash injection.

Nice enough for what we needed

Nice hotel. Great comfy bed. Unfortunately our room had no curtain so I had to fashion one from a blanket. The air con unit didnt work and the room was dusty. At 530am guys from the gym next door were shouting in the car park. We would stay again, the bed alone was worth it! But defo needs some work

The experience was average overall.

The staff were friendly and obliging, but the hotel felt rather run down and shabby and the common areas poorly serviced. We were promised a room with garden view, but the garden was across a car park...

Let down

Miss C. H. Families - 28/10/2019 Confirmed reviews AccorHotels

The room was good however in the bathroom the shower curtain was orange stained and the ceiling was peeling paint also the heater was not working. The breakfast was not hot but Luke warm this let the breakfast down. I asked reception if the swimming pool was still open and was told yes till 7pm but was let down at the reception of the health spa stating children are not permitted after 5pm so my daughters was upset. We was so excited about staying and sadly left with feeling deeply disappointed. Id hoped we would stay your hotel on a regular basis, but left feeling let down.

Check in process was good, fast and efficient. We ordered food to eat in the bar as I had my toddler with us and needed something fairly quick. Food was delicious and well received. Room was well set up and travel cot was a good sized one rather than the really small ones you sometimes find.

In many ways, this is like going home

Don 4. Couples - 26/10/2019 Confirmed reviews AccorHotels

This was a five-night stay using the hotel as a base for visiting family. We had the same suite as last year Room 16, the Barington suite). Lots of room for us as a couple. It is in the oldest part of the hotel and is still in need of renovation, which we are told is scheduled to be started in the near future. Since our last visit, there has been a change in General Manager and the second-in -command had left the day before we arrived. This lack in leadership was very evident. Breakfast at this hotel is just great and service is impeccable. Thank you to the "old guard", Alan, Raph and Phil, for making us feel welcome and valued guests. The evening crew, when we had dinner in the bar area, were not to the same standard. Many young and enthusiastic staff who were wanting some real mentoring and support from their supervisors. The staff, in general, are friendly and helpful. We had an incident late one evening when water started pouring out of the ceiling in the living area of the suite. Rushed to front desk to let them know. Front desk person didn't know what to do. Fortunately, my wife had quickly put a garbage container under the leak to catch the water. Duty Manager called but she was little help. She called GM on phone but did not let us know what was result. I indicated that I would like to talk to GM the next day before we checked out. She indicated that to compensate, they would reduce the room charge for that night by 50%. This hadn't been done when I went to check out and I never did get to talk to the GM. Also, on check out I found that the 6000 Accor points that I had used to reduce cost of stay had not been credited. This hotel has a great location and is very relaxing. WE will return, but hope to see improvements in service and facilities the next time.

Great for a night away

It was all going well until we went to bed. Firstly Room 31's bed sinks in the middle and was a complete nightmare to sleep on. Then at 2am a couple of guests decided to sit in the seats outside room 31 and talk loudly, then slam a bedroom door, then talk loudly again....and so on. By 3.30 I finally cracked and opened the door and asked them to be quiet. I would also say that none of your room doors shut quietly - they all BANG. As were staying 2 nights we asked to be moved, which the staff arranged. But I wouldn't say that Room 7's bed was a lot better. It was a shame as we were going to a family event and instead of being bright and cheerful we were totally shattered.

Dear Carol W., Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Letchworth Hall Hotel.
