« You get what you pay for »

It wasn't a good start. When booking, the check in time said from 14:00, but when we arrived at around 15:30 the room was not ready. We had to occupy ourselves for a another hour or so but on our return we were able to check in. The lift areas on the ground and first floors had a very overpowering stench that I can't even describe. Apart from the chewing gum stuck to the bottom of the bunk bed the room was very clean. I didnt hear much noise but my partner said she was woken by a lot of people shouting and running up and down the halls. The location was excellent and the value for money are the saving graces for this hotel.

« Satisfactory »

Having a gel dispenser in the shower would be much better than tiny bars of soap which must get thrown away after only a small amount of usage (not very environmentally friendly). Apart from the croissants the breakfast is very poor - peach slices from a tin are the 'fresh fruit' and the orange drink is as far from orange juice as I can imagine. Coffee is also now in cardboard cups. I have stayed at this hotel quite a lot on business and things have deteriorated over the last 12 months. I'll probably copy this review onto Booking.com unless I hear back from a human being.

« Ok...but should be advertising as ensuite »

Staff where friendly...hotel was clean and bed was comfortable also in a good spot for the center bars shops and bus station... But the downside was no ensuite room just a toilet cubicle with a saloon door (with a gap under the door) a sink in the bedroom and a shower door that opens straight into the bedroom ...cost cutting to the extreme which you don't expect at almost £100 a night .

« Terrible especially staff they are so ignorant and unhelpful »

We arrived to be told the room wasn't ready and we asked could we leave our bags to be told very sharply no we don't have any room to hold them which meant we would have to carry the bags around the town with us, another man was there who asked was it a triple room let me double check he came back 5 minutes later and told the man who was working at the desk there was two available!! So we got to check in which was great at that stage! We wernt in the room all day we came back from the town to freshen up to go for dinner, then returned at mid night which was us for the night. We were awoken at 8.15 with the loud sounds of a drill and constant banging which came to light that there was so much work being carried out on our floor, there was no way you could sleep through it. To our surprise our bedroom door opened to show a man standing there in a yellow pollo shirt who was oviously a worker and wasn't informed we were in the room who quickly left! This made us fel very very unsafe! At that point we were so disgusted we got up to get ready and left. Our bus wasn't until 5pm that day we asked could we leave our bags and the man said yes £2 per bag! On return to get the bags there was a very rude drunk man in reception he was in his mid twenties he was very inappropriate to myself and another customer who was checking in the girl on reception didn't blink an eyelid to any of this that was going on I found it so so unprofessional she didn't ask the man to leave nor ask me or the other customer where we ok or even apologise at all! They have absolutely no customer service skills at all I know it is a cheap hotel but I would rather throw my money down the drain and spend the night on the street than ever to return to this hotel!

« On business trip to get a room facing night club is really nightmare!!! »

The standard is all the time very good - staff, cleanliness, preparation, convenience. Just please do not give a person who come on the business trip a room facing a nightclub!!! once more and one guest less....sorry

« Worst Customer Service Experience in Belfast Ever »

Booked a room for two adults and two children aged 5 & 2. My booking confirmation clearly stated the ages of the children. Checked into the hotel around 6pm. Rebecca checked us in and was very helpful. Went to the first floor to room 117. Corridor was a bit shody. Bits of cotton wool and tissue paper littered all along the corridor. When we got to our room there was just a double bed and bunk bed over the the double bed. No where for our 2 year old to sleep. Went down to discuss what can be done about this and Rebecca advised that she would arrange a cot to the room. Went back to the room and Rebecca called to the room and 10 minutes later to say there was no cots left. Asked could I see the manager to discuss and went back downstairs with Rebecca. Was then advised that the manager was gone home and that there were no other managers on duty. This is when another member of the Etap team got involved, Benji. I've been staying in hotels in Belfast for 20 years and I work in the hospitality sector and I can honestly say that this guys performance behind the counter was one of the worst customer care performances ever. I explained to him that I had a confirmation which I showed to him that myt booking was for 2 adults and 2 children and now I have nowhere for my daughter to sellp for the evening. He said that I saw a photo of the bedroom online and I should have known what I was getting. I said all hotels provide cots for infants. Benji advised that it was my own fault that I didnt requests a cot in the manual comments box when making the booking I asked Benji why the system allowed me to make a booking for two adults and two kids when the hotel the room we were to be given clearly would only accommodate three people. It would accommodate 4 if a cot was placed in the room. Benji advised this was a Booking.com problem and not the hotels. I asked why would the hotel accept a booking from Booking.Com when they were unable to honour that booking. Again was advised that this was a Booking.Com problem and not his. I asked for the number of the manager who would deal with a complaint. Was advised by Benji that he cannot give out a number. Instead he gave me a generic email address. I asked for the name of the person at the end of the email who would be dealing with my compaint and I was told Tommy. I asked for Tommys surname and was told I couldn't have it. I asked Benji if he was refusing to give me the surname of the gentleman and he said we wasn't obliged to give it. His tone throughout our conversation was unhelpful and defensive. Not once did he apologise for the problem. Not once did he make any suggestions to try and remedy the situation (in fairness to Rebecca she offered us complementary breakfast because of what had happened. We politely turned her offer down as we just wanted somewhere for our little girl to sleep. We werent concerned about breakfast) Im not really expecting a reply back to this comment by the hotel to be honest. Your frontline team at the hotel are the first point of contact for the general public. They represent the hotel so its an important position. Their first impression on the customer reflects on what the customer thinks of the hotel. In this situation if I was to get a reply back I would imagine it to be defensive and unapologetic.

« Grand room for the low price »

Staff were very friendly and helpful could not fault them. 1st time staying in a hotel like this. Personally room is too small for anymore than 2 people. I didn’t feel comfortable but for the price it’s clean, good location and somewhere to sleep.

« Minimalist (room size and facilities) but good staff »

I only stayed one night ( have stayed slightly longer before). Very pleasant staff, room clean but really tiny. My cabin case just made it through the gap between end of bed and wall. My room slept 3 and as a single traveller, I could not imagine 3 people trying to muddle around in that one room with 5 hangers between them and only room for one small case under the table top by the window. Where are you supposed to put things? Other cases would surely have tripped up anyone getting out of the overhead bunk bed. Toilet light automatically went off after 6 seconds if you didn't move which meant you had to keep bobbing your head about. That was really annoying!! I would describe the room as minimalistic, almost pod like. I was on the side with the night club next door and very noisy so if you want a quieter room, suggest an odd numbered one. Very lively area though if you are looking for good nightlife and close enough to transport links. My room was reasonable (£44) because I was not staying on the weekend and booked well in advance but the next night it was advertised outside at £119!! Continental breakfast was good ( extra £5.50) and free tea/ coffee all day welcome, but surprised to be charged £2 extra on checking out to leave my case ( that's per item). I just can't say overall that I found the hotel comfortable. Maybe suited to younger travellers?

« Perfect location, noisy on some occasions! »

Room was clean and cosy. Basic, but what more do you need?! Noisy nightclub/pub right next door is the only negative.
