My wife and I stay at the Grand Mecure Nelson as regular guests. The charming village site itself is set away from noise - but close to the airport and a short 2-3 minutes from shops if required. The staff are friendly and helpful from check in (reception) to restaurant. This month I ran a company seminar at the venue - the team there (Holly and co) were brilliant. Toby and team at the restaurant bring 'life' to the dining experience and the Tuna Tataki entree was delicious. My wife enjoyed freshly caught pan fried snapper two nights running (not the snapper...) and the lamb rump was perfectly prepared...I also repeated my order on the second night. I could talk further about the pork belly but then it may appear I overate...First and foremost - the team at Grand Mecure Nelson know how to look after people!

Good room, although tv channels are all over the show. Surely tv1 should be on channel 1 and the same with tv3! Great service at the restaurant, love the music Tommy plays - good bit of Deano. Any chance of varying the menu at times as I stayed there 6 weeks previous and the same menu. Great service everywhere

Room was very comfortable. Lock on door to village green needs adjusting. Corners of range hood found to be very sharp on a number of occasions (by my head)! Our two preferred meals from the menu (fish & tuna) could not be supplied at our 7:00pm booking.

I had a 3 night stay at the Grand Mercure Nelson Monaco in the Summer Cottages. I like the village feel of the apartments and understand there is a look the property is going for, however left feeling a little underwhelmed with the experience. The furnishing within the rooms is tired and worn (possibly the look they are going for, however felt like it was all from the thrift shop), curtains (where there were some, didn't all close fully leaving the outside lights to shine into the room). Small TV with limited channels, "eco" bulk size amenities, which I agree are good for the environment, but were not to the standard of a typical Grand Mercure. We had dinner one night at the onsite restaurant, The Monaco Kitchen. The food was exceptional, however the meal experience was tarnished due to the rude, stuck-up attitude of the "maître d". Right from the start we felt unwelcome by him. As we had no booking, (this was clearly an issue), he straight away demanded a name and room number (we may not have been guests of the property, however duly obliged with the details). After a few minutes of huffing and puffing he finally found the details and asked us to wait while he prepared our table. We were unsure why he had to do this as there were numerous other tables already set up that were not used for some time. Again, this all seemed too great an inconvenience for him, (I'm still baffled as to why). The final straw for him was when he sat us down and asked if we would like Sparkling, Still or Tap water. We opted for tap water, (the water in the region is great and in our personal opinion tastes better than carbonated or branded bottled water). This was clearly met with disgust by said "maître d", his face quickly contorted and the eye rolling nearly knocked us off our chairs. He returned shortly after with a bottle of their finest tap water. To our relief, we were never to see him again that evening and we were waited on by a lovely lady, offering efficient service with a friendly smile and manners (something that this "experienced in life" "maître d" clearly lacked). The food was great (compliments to the chef), it's just a real shame that the attitude and manner of one person spoilt our evening and tarnished our opinion of the dinner experience. A person of his life experience and in such a role should know better, probably time for him to give up the gig before he puts any more people off.......

Location is very nice but tudor style a little outdated and very expensive for space and facilities. Rooms quite small and while there are communal facilities it's not really set up for communal use. A large TV screen and radio dominates the space.

I would just note that you stayed in our smallest room category (a Cosy Room) - our cottages, Terrace Houses and suites are significantly larger and more spacious, these range from 50-80m2, compared to the 19m2 you stayed in. We have (very recently) commenced a programme refurbishment, this includes new and improved lighting, a repaint, new furniture, fixtures and fittings which we are confident that once completed will greatly improve the rooms. Obviously, on a property like ours this will take some time to roll these changes out across the entire hotel. I'll pass along your comment about the 'slow and clunky' experience at check-in to the Reception Office manager. The hotel was easy to find, in a very nice spot along the waters edge and with the set up like a small village of cottages it had a really victorian type atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful and although the room was upstairs and I had to carry my bags up, it was comfortable and cosy. The curtains could do with replacing though as they were too narrow for the windows. All in all a great stay and most enjoyable time had by myself.

We place the utmost importance on the safety of our guests and staff.
