Thanks for the room upgrade as a Platinum Accor member, but the stay was simply average - Worse of all was the breakfast, it was packed with people and I could barely find a seat to "enjoy" my meal.

« Nice enough rooms - pity about the reception staff and other facilities »

The first contact we had with reception was when we checked in. I asked if the hotel had a pool and was told that I should go out and explore Hanoi and I shouldn't be worrying about a pool. I was a bit taken aback about this comment as it was quite abrupt and not very nice. If I wanted to be told what to do on MY holiday, I would have gotten her to pay for it. Happy hour in the bar was a joke, admittedly the first time we went down it was 6.45pm. We were ignored for about 5 minutes and then when we tried to order our first drink in Hanoi we were told that it was too late as the computer didn't allow the happy hour prices. It was 6.55pm. The second time we went down for happy hour drinks we were told there was only 1 out of 3 red wines and 1 out of 3 white wines available. This happened again on the 3rd night. Needless to say, it wasn't a very happy hour. Another time we went down for a drink, I requested a peach iced tea and was told that was unavailable too. Every morning at breakfast, regardless of whether we were the 1st or the last people in, we were generally ignored by the staff. Our 1st cup of coffee, we had to get ourselves. I have no issue with getting my own coffee but when you are unfamiliar with the way of the hotel this can be a bit unsettling. I also drink decaffeinated coffee so just required hot water. Other hotels that we had stayed at were exceptional at anticipating what was needed and pre-empted coffee top-ups and plate removal. They were more attentive to the people that were in for breakfast and not dusting off imaginary crumbs on unattended tables or food areas and didn't excessively chat amongst themselves when guests were in the vicinity. I felt like we were a burden and that I should just help myself. On a brighter note, one of the door men / porters was AMAZING! Unfortunately, I didn't write his name down which I now regret. He was quite tall and well spoken, he assisted with getting me to the nearest pharmacy when my friend had stubbed her toe and was bleeding excessively. He did check the first aid kit but it was ill equipped. Every time he was on shift, he was extremely pleasant to deal with and always had a 'hello with a smile'. This person is the only one I could say welcomed us to the Mecure Hanoi.

In overall, my stay was pleasant. The staff were friendly and supportive. However, the hot water did not work on the first day and the bathroom’s smell was not good.

Chose the Mercure Hanoi due to proximity to the office. i was only there for one night so long term space and comfort wasn't a primary concern or need.

Very good location. Right opposite railway station. Unfortunately your house keeping staff reported minibar usages which was not true. Your front office staff made me sign an affidavit for this. I had stayed in many Accor hotels before and this was first. Which according to me was unwarranted and in fact humiliating.
