« Communication with Accor and Novotel was non existant, all our bookings were incorrect. »

Although we found the Novotel comfortable, the inefficiencies of the running of the place was like Faulty Towers. On arrival we were advised we only had one room booking when we had booked and had in writing confirmation of two beach front rooms booked, superior family room it was called. We were advised that room was already booked? That was the beginning of our holiday

The view from the balcony was great but the smell was absolutely disgusting. The shower had no closing door so water was sprayed outside the stall and onto anyone using the mirror in the bathroom to get dressed or to put on makeup. The goose down comforter had a hole in it and was shedding. Was not a very pleasant two nights for the family.

« The first room had bedbugs and this impacted my view of the hotel »

The first room I stayed in had bedbugs. While I understand that this can be a challenge for hotels, I am extremely allergic to their bites and cannot stay in a room that has them. Upon being bitten through my pants while sitting on the bed working, and then visually siting the bugs, I contacted the front desk to let them know. They came to my room and I showed them the bugs (I have photos I can provide if interested). I was then moved to what seemed to be the worst room in the entire hotel (I am not exaggerating). The room was as far away from the lobby as possible, and rather than being the ocean view I had paid for, I was told that I would be moved to a "garden view" room as that was all that was available. I asked if I would be refunded the difference, and was not given a definitive answer on this. When I got to the room, the "garden view" was actually a view of an extremely unattractive utility area (I can provide photos if needed). I also found there was no internet connection. I contacted the front desk and was told "Oh no. You won't get internet in THAT room," the tone of which confirmed my earlier assessment that I had been moved to the worst room in the hotel. Given that I was in Suva for work, and would be spending much time working in my room, the lack of internet access was not acceptable to me. So I went back to the front desk and explained this. Despite their earlier assurances that this was the only room available in a hotel, I was then moved to a third room - which was a partial ocean view, had some limited internet access, and was certainly preferable to the first room they had moved me to. However, this room also had it's challenges - as I said, it was a partial ocean review, so certainly not as nice as the first room I was in initially - I'm not sure if the room had a different charge than what I paid for, but I would think this would be likely as there is regularly difference if charges for "ocean view" compared to "partial ocean view". Also, it was right next to (and had a view of) the main road, so I was disturbed throughout the nights by the traffic noise. In conclusion, I understand that bedbugs can happen in hotels. However, the felt that it was not handled well by the hotel. Moving me to the worst room in the hotel, and falsely claiming that no other room was available, without making it very clear that I would be discounted for the reduction in room quality got my stay off to a very bad start - in essence, I felt that I was treated disrespectfully by the hotel in response to the issue. The following night, the manager called and apologized for the inconveniences of the night before and waived the first nights charges. This went some way towards rectifying the situation, but in my view didn't go far enough considering that at the remainder of my week was spent in a room with the other challenges related to traffic, poorer quality view etc I travel to Suva 6-7 times a year. This was the second time I've stayed in Novotel Lami, and based on the above experience, I would be unlikely to return.
