« I was impressed with the service, but it was a shame about the buzzing heating system »

The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable, and the room was nice and clean. However, at 5.30pm on the evening of my one night stay there was a loud buzzing noise, which I initially thought was an alarm sounding somewhere in the hotel. On further inspection the noise seemed to be coming from the room heating thermostat. After I had gone to bed I heard the same noise a couple of times, and then again at 2.30am when it woke me from deep sleep. I thought my alarm clock was going off. I phoned guest services, who were very quick in coming to my room, followed by a maintenance man, and a lady with a plug in radiator. I appreciated the efforts they made to solve the problem, which included offering me another room. I was very reluctant to change rooms in the middle of the night, so opted to turn off the heating and use the plug in. When I mentioned the problems to the reception desk in the morning I was contacted by a member of staff who said that they were very sorry I had such a disturbed night's sleep and that I would not be charged for my room. I appreciated this, although of course, there is not much that can compensate for being very tired.

« A Bit Disappointing... »

1) Hotel location is great - the mall right beside is a big convenience for us in terms of food. 2) It is also quite clean. 3) Hotel concierge booked a cab for us for our departure to airport 2 days later. Our flight is at 10am and he said 8am to come down to make way to airport. I called at 730am that morning and he said to take our time and come down at 8am. However, when we get into the cab, the cab driver said we may miss our flight because we should go to the airport 3 hours before flight departure and not 2. He drove like a maniac to help us get there 30 mins before flight departure. Happens that it was snowing the day before and there was a huge jam. Wonder what kind of advice is this from the hotel? If we were to miss the flight, the next flight will be 2 days later! 4) VERY stuffy in the room. We were baked. I called front desk and the lady said there is nothing she can do and that we are not used to heat. Coming from Singapore, we totally understand what heat it. I was quite annoyed with her reply. We eventually opened part of the window and curtain in the room to let the bitter cold air to enter. After that it became more bearable.

« Pretty nice, but still amateurish. »

We had a really nice time at the Sofitel in Harbin. The staff were really friendly and helpful, especially Frances and Kitty. There are a few important areas where customer service can improve. 1. Hot food. Our room service food was cold three out of four times (75%). 2. When a husband buys his wife a massage as a gift, don't ask the wife for payment. It's rude and spoils the act of giving a gift. 3. Place a wine corkscrew in every room. It's annoying to have to ask for one, and then it doesn't come. 4. Real coffee. I would suggest that guests would pay a premium price for a high quality, very hot pot of coffee in the morning. 5. Babysitting service. Parents would like to go out for dinner sometimes. This is a service that parents are prepared to pay for.

« Disappointing stay »

Door staff and room attendants were friendly but unfortunately check-in desk and guest services were not very helpful. Gave my Le Club number to the check-in staff and she told me to leave her my e-mail address instead - isn't it easier to get and type a number? After providing my e-mail address I noticed she did not input anything and so I asked her about it, to which she replied "yeah I'll do it for you later, we will let you know when you check out" and then passed me my room card. Not sure what she meant by "will let you know when you check out" but anyway I had to give my number again to the check-in desk the next day. On the 2nd night, I was woken up at 1am by loud neighbours, called guest services who said they would check and then immediately put the phone down. 15 minutes later they were still being noisy so I phoned guest services and the lady told me "yeah we checked but we couldn't hear anything". I opened my room door and could hear everything outside my room. Called them back and told them the room number and only then did someone come up to knock on the door to ask them to quieten down. Not really the service you would expect to receive from a five star hotel.

We would recommend this hotel in a heart beat. Please see my Tripadvisor review. The only thing I did not mention in my review is the location. It is somewhat away from the 'Main Drag". But otherwise, it has a Wanda Shopping Mall next to it which serves us just as well.

Sofitel Wanda Harbin was a great choice. It was within easy access to all we wished to see and do. The staff were efficient, helpful and friendly and made our stay a pleasure. The Hotel is beautifully appointed and we enjoyed all their facilities as well as their excellent restaurants and bar, where the Jasmine tea was made to perfection! Two days of our visit the air became polluted and the hotel provided a complimentary humidifier. Harbin was a unique experience in China. The friendly people, culture, history, and cuisine gave us a bigger picture of China and we would love to return for the Ice Festival.

« Not a great stay »

Receptionist seemed not very happy. Room is OK but heating device didn't work at all. I was feeling cold. Checked out next morning and moved to Sheraton. I'm not a picky person and just want to stay at a place where I can feel myself as a guest.

The staff namely Sasha, Tiffany, May, Heidy, Rian, Ruffer and of course Mr. George are really superb in the their supply of services to the hotel guests. The room attendants are very experienced and totally accommodating. Variety in food should be improved. Same food types become really boring in time for long-staying guests. Really no complaints. Mostly satisfying experience.
