Great location & nice hotel

TripAdvisor rating 4.0/5

usuallyworktrips Couples - 18/09/2019 TripAdvisor review

Perfectly located just on the edge of the old town & the river area, near to lots of restaurants, bars, markets etc and walking distance (if you like an uphill walk!) to the lovely Clifton Village area & suspension bridge. The hotel bar and breakfast are good Only downside is that the bedroom windows do not open, apparently for health & safety reasons, so if you like natural air rather than air conditioning, this may not be ideal

Nice room, very nice bathroom, pleasant stay overall

Load Reception Area , old food on tray outside rooms and glasses on floors ( Level 3) the were also plaster missing next to room near the lifts? On entering our room 333 The toilet roll was wet ? and the bath towel was screwed up on the side ? Even the cups didn't match ( small details ) . To work the TV you had to take the back off the remote and then the batteries would fall out. We went out for the evening came back and went to bed. Only to be woken up at 4.39am with a knock on our door by drunken men wandering the corridors! this unsettled us ( 2 women staying at the hotel ) and I didn't sleep after that.. I rang the reception ( Shaun was lovely) We didn't use the swimming pool as we were to tired. We went for breakfast at 9am which was cold, bacon sausage beans not even room temperature. We informed the staff who replaced it. We gave up packed and left we had a 4 hour journey home after we had said good bye to our daughter who is now at Uni in Bristol , tired and hungry we informed reception they said sorry but they cant help it when customers wander round drunk but passed me the managers details. to complain.. I stay in Hotels at lot for business and travel aboard up to 5 times a year . We stay in various hotels from Radisson Blu to Marriott's Novatels Ibis etc This Mercure is the worse hotel by far. I wanted to relax have a swim and not worry about leaving my daughter for Uni as I knew it would be a stressful time , Instead I left tired hungry and upset

Underwhelming

Nice room, good breakfast. The gym was extremely unsatisfactory. The pool looked nice but the changing rooms were so dilapidated that it didn’t seem at all appealing to use the pool. The building is run down in places. The room was nice but the bathroom wasn’t the cleanest and the complimentary toiletries seemed rather budget. Disappointed over all.

Aside from the Harbour Hotel (different price point) this is the best hotel we have stayed in Bristol. Great location, traditional room decor and layout. Adequate parking albeit a little pricey. Good service from all staff we encountered. Will be back, and happy to recommend

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback. I was pleased to learn you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Chris

Good apart from room service

Hotel and service excellent. However room service took ages to arrive by which time to tired to eat, also no cutlery provided so couldn’t have eaten the nachos even if I had wanted to. Basically water £24! Not happy at all.

Excellently located and good value on a Friday Night.

The hotel was perfectly suited for the purpose of my visit - coming by train to a maritime history conference at the SS Great Britain. From the hotel Bristol Temple Meads station was a 10 minute walk and Brunel's ship a 20 minute stroll by the waterside. The room was good, the staff friendly and the breakfast great!

At check in I wasn't recognised as a LeClub member and haven't been offered the usual drink voucher. Later on I called room service several times and they didn't pick up the phone; when I was finally able to order (after having called 5/6 times) the person who delivered the food in my room wasn't very friendly. Apart from that the room was OK and in good cleaning condition.

Very happy with hotel and facilities, shame that paper cups not glasses provided in room; car park charges a bit steep

Enjoyed the hotel location, pleased with the standard of the room, and its cleanliness. This hotel is vastly superior to the Grand, both in presentation and room specification.

Why 200 Characters?

Customer review rating 4.1/5

Visitor Couples - 06/09/2019 AccorHotels review

I did give you a very good, but brief, review but your website wouldn't accept it because it wasn't 200 characters. I then passed it out with filler "xxxxx" but then I was accused of not writing in English so I just gave up. I'm sure you would receive a lot more reviews if you didn't impose a 200 character limit without telling folk about it until after they have wasted time typing a shorter review. (Actually that might be your other review request for Trope Advisor... just take credit when you get it and why ask folk twice??

I stayed for 1 night with daughter and 2 grandchildren. Reception staff were very cheerful and helpful. The hotel is well located to get to all the attractions. The hotel room was very spacious, clean and quiet. Not sure I liked the aircon - think I would have preferred to open the windows. Beds were OK. Loved having the fridge although it did take a while to get cold. The breakfast was fab - huge choice. Swimming pool was brilliant - loved having towels to use.

The room & breakfast was ok but the towels in my bathroom were on the floor! Moreover, there was hair (!) in the shower. Did report that to reception who said housekeeping would go back to the room . When returned in the evening the hair was still in the shower that means that wasn't cleaned even after my complaint!

No parking spaces - this should be mentioned when booking. Beds were nice, overall room was dark and not as clean as we would be expecting. Unpleasant smell in the bathroom. Pool area needs painted. Would not recommend.

The staff at front desk were super helpful and accommodating. Extending check out by an hour was no problem. Room was clean, comfortable and had great facilities.
