Nice apartments close to the beach. The apartment we had was huge, clean with all the facilities you would need. The A/C was a bit noisey but other than that we had a great holiday and are going back in June.

« Little getaway »

Was a wonderful little getaway. Can't really complain. Room was lovely. The pool was great and the beach was right across the road. I'd defiently stay there again. Staff were nice. Only thing was when I booked the trip there was no option to pay by gift card on the Accor website. They need to update their payment options when paying online.

« Nice facility - pity about the service »

I am not sure why this is a Grand Mercure as none of the normal privileges for Platinum (or Gold) Accor members are available - no upgrade, no welcome drink, no late checkout without fees, no staff. I appreciate that they are apartments, but why be a Grand Mercure and not just Allegra Apartments. We booked a 2 bedroom apartment, but when we arrived after hours (which closes 5.30pm) we were given a 1 bedroom apartment - this was resolved when we rang the onsite managers, he came down, and showed us an extra key to an additional locked room that is the 2nd bedroom as they had assumed we didn't need the second room despite booking it. All ok. No room servicing which is fine and standard when you book apartments, however we objected to having to go down to a massive stinking industrial sized dumpster in the carpark which is difficult to keep open to put your rubbish in. Perhaps some normal wheelie bins in a discreet location on each floor would be more acceptable - there were stern warnings all over the apartment about extra fees for not vacuuming, not keeping it clean and not clearing rubbish. Check out request to 12.00 instead of 10.00 ended in an argument with the female manager about how staff were waiting to clean our apartment etc. Eventually she agreed on 11.00 with another stern warning that any later would result in $20 per hour fees. She also stated that "we are apartments, not a hotel and each apartment is strata owned etc (why would I care about that?) Even though they use the title of a Grand Mercure. Every time we went to see reception it was closed, and when we rang at 8.00am were told to ring back at 8.30 when reception opened. Perhaps this couple is not cut out for service industry. The positives - nice facility itself and the pool is lovely. We would not stay here again at Grand Mercure prices, it would be better and cheaper to stay in normal serviced apartments of which there were plenty of good options in this off peak period.

« Very comfortable apartment »

Excellent property. Three negatives. You are charged for internet use in your apartmenF by a private company. No face cloths provided in bathroom. No guide to Foxtel channels. Small matters that would enhance your overall stay.

Hello, thank you for your review, we are pleased that you had a comfortable stay. Foxtel guides are available on the Foxtel system via the remote "Foxtel Guide' button as printed ones are not relevent for the new system. Yes, Wifi is "user pay ", we do not advertise that this is free but hopefully in the future it will be. Face cloths are an item that most guests bring with them these days. We look forward to welcoming you to Hervey Bay in the future. Kind regards,

« Relaxed »

My wife and I stayed a one bedroom apartment for 4 nights, the apartment had everything that was needed to make our stay comfortable. The apartments are very secure and require a key tab to access any floor in the hotel, and the garage had a remote operated door again providing great security. The staff were incredibly helpful, and welcoming. The location on the esplanade is fantastic, and there are many restaurants within walking distance. We will be staying here again on our next visit to Hervey Bay.

« What a view »

We thought the apartment was lovely, a spotless 2bed 2 bathroom ocean view on the 5th floor, a very nice pool and the reception staff were really good and very helpful, great restaurant attached to the apartment complex, they serve sharing plate style meals. The beach is just across the road, all in all delightful.

We have stayed in a few apartments in Hervey Bay and this is probably the best so far. It's in a good position, the rooms are large and spacious. Great kitchen well equipped. Within walking distance to cafés pubs and shop.

Great place to stay, very central and unit was extremely well appointed and spacious. The only down side was that the air conditioning unit was located on the balcony adjacent to the main bedroom. This was rather loud when it cut in and out.

« Not welcoming to visitors »

Unfortunately our time at this resort was not as pleasant as expected. We arrived on a Sunday, let ourselves in after instructions via message on phone,(reception doesn't work on Sundays) found apartment very nice and comfortable. On the Monday we had to check in at reception and found the receptionist rather surely, I felt that she had been there too long and didn't want to deal with the public. We parked in the car park at designated spot, only to have the neighbouring person leave a note on our car as the wheel of our car was on the white line. Apparently most of the apartments are privately owned and occupied, they are particular with their car parks and let any visitors know of this. It certainly didn't feel welcoming. On the bright side, there is a great Italian restaurant alongside the resort which we enjoyed.

Good morning, We can only sincerely apologise if your experience was not as expected. We feel that your comment about ‘ the receptionist’ is unfair for an online review site. Parking is rarely an issue as guests generally park within the lines. Regards,

The apartment was very well equiped . It is close to the sea. Don't wait for services from the reception. It is often closed. And if you ask for a towel for the pool, they will charge it onto your account.

Apartment was lovely. A bit disappointed with the amount of cooking utensils. One small frypan made it very difficult to cook when not dining out. If a family was staying the size of,this would cause major issues. Gym a bit disappointing. One TV not working and we found some of the electronic equipment needed maintenance.

Hello, Thank you for this review, we are surprised at the comment on utensils as every apartment has a set of cooking pots, frypan and microwave suitable containers. We do have a large frypan at reception available to guests on request. The extra TV in the gym is for Austar only. Unfortunately, our new running machine has a fault, disconnected by the electrician last week as unsafe- possibly due to spilt liquid by a user and the repairman has been contacted. Hoping to see you here again and thank you, again.

« Loved Room 206 Grand Mercure Allegra Hervey Bay »

We have stayed at the Grand Mercure Allegra Hervey Bay a number of times and each stay has been very enjoyable. We love the swim up rooms in summer but Room 206 in the cooler months is fantastic. Doors and windows can be left open to let the fresh air in and the views of the ocean are lovely. The furniture and décor in this apartment have been the best to date.

« Very well presented »

Rooms very well presented, very large, with quality facilities. Located across the road from the beach, but entrance isn't in the Esplanade! Keep in mind they are apartments, privately owned, but marketed by Accor. Excellent venue. Reception closes at 6pm, and wasn't open when departed at 7am. Warm reception on arrival, and would stay there again

We were very pleased with our room and thought it was beautiful, as was the pool area. Though we originally requested a 1-bedroom apartment with a view (of which regrettably there are none) the apartment we were given was a 2-bedder with one b'room locked off and it had a view of the water. We were very appreciative and were sorry to leave.

great view, glimpse of sea, well equipped gym & sauna, clean, tidy and pleasant furnishings, but there were signs everywhere in the apartment, lobby, lift gym about what you could and couldn't do and what the penalty was if you did it.....overwhelming.. others had trouble with the attitude of the manageress, but not us

Our hotel has responded to the review
Our hotel has responded to the review

Hello Sue, Thank you for your comments but I must point out for other readers that there are not signs everywhere, signage is as required by the Fire Dept or other bodies for the health and safety of all who reside or stay here. None in the Lobby, Lift has No Smoking and the location of the rubbish area. Apartments have the standard approved industry notices for self contained apartments and the usual No Smoking and be Eco friendly re air-con, power & water. Gym /Sauna has a safety sign as the equipment is for adults not children to play on or in for safety reasons. The only sign which mentions a ‘penalty’ is for rubbish and ‘unacceptable condition’, unfortunately necessary for the safety of the housekeepers - I must add that this has very rarely been applied. Yes, it was quite a busy weekend with weddings, Christmas groups and lots of guest's visitors in and out of the building. Kind regards,

My wife and I along with my sister in law stayed in a very nice two bedroom appartment for three days. We received a very warm welcome from Derek, who was very helpful in organising a whale watching trip and recommended a couple of very good restaurants. We hope to be back for a week next March.

« Stay at the Allegra »

Well where do I start. The location was fantastic and the rooms where great. We had our own spa outdoor in the court yard but we weren't advise of the hours of restriction of use of the spa. Wasn't aware that there was no change of towels for the 4 days that we stayed there and there was a cost to get a change. Considering that we paid top dollar to stay I would have thought that we would have been giving free towels. Pool was fantastic and gym was good too. Across the road from beach access Would have been nice to have a pool bar open

Dear Guest, Thank you for your thoughts, Allegra is a well situated fully self contained apartment complex. If guests are staying for more than 7 nights a service is included. Towels and linen are provided and extra towels are available at a small cost. There is a laundry in every apartment. There are guidelines for spa usage in the compendium and at the spa itself. All we request is that the spa not be used between 10pm and 7am which is reasonable for the consideration of the apartments next to and above the Garden spa apartments. Our beautiful pool does not have a pool bar however there is a restaurant/bar adjacent to the pool area which is not part of our complex. Kind regards,

« Hervey Bay - Great place to stay »

Want a weekend away to relax. You can't beat Hervey bay and the Grand Mercure, You can simply walk down to the beach or to a good variety of good places to eat at. Or straight out of the gate into a great little restaurant next door and go no further for the whole weekend. The Grand is Grand.

« Beautiful place but a little bit put out. »

Upon arrival we got our keys and went to our room. The room was large clean and well appointed. We were toward the back of the complex (away from the beach) even though there did not seem to be anyone else there, however I had read other reviews that said because they payed a lower rate they also didn't get a better view. Non the less there are so many trees along the foreshore you cant really see the ocean anyway. We were a little taken back by the TV, it was and old LCD with a set top box and a no name brand. We couldn't work out how to change from regular TV to austar and asked at reception how but the only response we got was that the digital receiver for ABC was broken but it was being repaired... we later worked out how to do it after much stuffing around. We also has no face washers in the room and were not keen on having to hire beach towels. I understand it is not serviced but I have stayed in other accor hotels were this is not the case especially given it is meant to be 5 stars and the price you pay. On the first day of our stay we went for a swim in the lovely pool and it was awesome. Unfortunately the pool then broke and we did not get another chance to swim in the pool for the remainder of our stay as it was being repaired the whole next day. It would have been nice to get some correspondence about the repairs while we were there. There are several restaurants in walking distance from the hotel which all serve lovely food. The Coast restaurant at the front of the hotel was a real winner. We loved walking along the foreshore during our stay. Liked best: Lovely big clean apartments with own laundry and beautiful bathrooms. Great quiet location Liked least: Lack of attention to detail (no face washers), staff friendly but unhelpful, the bed was hard (given we had been staying at a 3 star hotel the nights previous and the bed there was lush and soft), to that note the couch was also rather uncomfortable. The extra costs (towels, internet, extra washing detergent etc) especially the internet when you look at the neigbhouring hotels offering free wifi. Overall our stay here was pleasant and the rooms and hotel really are VERY nice! but given it is 5 star and the price I was expecting a little more.

Hello Bec, Thanks for your review. Apartments are spacious and we are proud of our cleanliness standards. As with most holiday apartment complexes, different categories of apartments have different tariffs. An oceanfacing apartment, of course, has a higher tariff than a non oceanfacing apartment. As you did not book an oceanfacing apartment you would not be aware of the views which do include the beach and ocean. So you can see the views from these apartments. Grand Mercure Allegra is not a Hotel, but a self-contained apartment complex and hence does not provide daily servicing. We do understand that the difference between Hotel and self-contained apartments can sometimes be misunderstood. We are not aware of your call to reception regarding Foxtel. This is a problem with Trip Advisor as reviews are generally anonymous. So we have no way of knowing which apartment or guest the review relates to. If you phoned reception and asked a question regarding the ABC channels we would have said the 'ABC amplifier had blown'. It was replaced Monday 25th April. If your call to reception was regarding switching from free to air TV to Foxtel, we would have said 'use the source button on the remote' and let us know if that does not work and we will come and show you. We spent 20mins in a ground floor apartment with a guest going through the TV, Cable and DVD functions. We even returned with a TV technician who happened to be onsite checking out a Cable box, just to make sure it was working correctly. We do not know if this was your apartment. So it concerns us that you thought we were not helpful... The swimming pool as you said, is lovely. It is 22mtrs, heated and with a fountain feature over a stonewall. The pool was not 'broken' and was at all times completely safe to use. A leak was being investigated and hence some water had to be drained. We did of course liaise with the trades staff and pool technician, throughout the process, to ensure the pool was safe to use. As we always say 'let us know if you have any concerns and we will rectify them'. If we don't know we can't assist. You have commented on the bed, if we knew which apartment you stayed in we could investigate it. If you would like to contact us we could look into this. email: holiday@allegra-herveybay.com.au thank you, Wendy Moss
