Overall, it was a good stay although the room keycard did not work .... and only worked on the third try! Pleasantly surprised that they served congee for breakfast .. which was not bad, but could be better if they increase the number of accompanying condiments.

As expected. All good. No surprises but no complaints either. Love the changes to the rooms but please install rubber stoppers in the bathroom cupboards as they close very harshly and loudly.

An old hotel with charm and character. Its a simple but comfortable hotel. Staff at reception are eager to help and they make you feel welcomed. Breakfast is simple but for $11 for a buffet breakfast which includes four different types of bread for toasting, fruit, pancakes, cereal, juices and tea and coffee it's great add $6 and you can get a cooked brekky of eggs your way, bacon, mushrooms, tomato and a hash brown which will certainly keep you going. they have just installed a gym in the hotel which is basic but you can certainly get the heart going with what they have on offer. Reception is 24/7 and as i said the staff are fantastic, any problems they want to help. The hotel is currently doing renovations but this is to improve the hotel and facilities. Definitely will be back and i highly recommend this hotel. Its centrally located to public transport, sky bus and the cbd.

A wonderful stay at your hotel. Front of house staff fantastic. Room compact, but clean, all mod cons and brand new bathroom. Brilliant! Ideally situated for us being near Southern Cross station. We`ll be back for sure

The Ibis Styles Kingsgate Hotel is a Gem!! I normally stay at 4-5 star Accor Hotels, but decided to give this hotel a try due to it's location to Southern Cross Station, only a 2 min walk. I got into Melbourne earlier than anticipated and walked to the hotel planning on getting breakfast there, dropping off my bags and going for a walk til I could check in. The gentleman at reception was so apologetic because it was too early to check in, before 7am, but a room would be available at 8am for me. Really impressed with the service. Walked up the stairs to the Kingsgate Cafe for breakfast only to be told the cafe doesn't open til 7am, which was fine I was happy to sit in one of the lounge chairs and relax. Before long the cafe was opened up and I was asked to go in and sit down. Breakfast was really good for what it was. There wasn't a big choice for the continental but it was quite adequate, the cooked option was just right. As a gold accor member I received 50% off my breakfast which equated to $8.50 for the full breakfast option. Impressed again! While enjoying my breakfast a staff member from reception came up to find me to advise that they have a room ready for me due to a cancellation before 7:30am. She had the paperwork with here so all I needed to do was sign and the room was mine. My room was perfect for me, bed was comfortable and as the room was recently renovated there was nothing to be disappointed with. Only down side was it didn't have a view but it was at he back of the property allowing for a good nights sleep so I was happy due to minimal sleep the night before. As with all Ibis hotels the rooms are smaller than a Mercure or Novotel room but suited me this time. I hope that the passage ways and corridors are part of the renovations as they could do with a freshen up in areas. Really enjoyed my stay here and will definitely stay again. Thank You and well done to your staff.

It is good the room is clean. The toilet is clean and that is what I like the most in staying at the hotel. But the linen when I check it there is stain on it. But the housekeeper change the linens straight away.

check in pleasant. Was Given Rm #1. Room was cramped with 3 persons as requested. Room Renovated but small and poor lighting. Worst of all, Royal Melbourne hotel at Rear. Friday night noise wasn't too bad. Saturday night/Sunday morning, room was uninhabitable due noise. At 3AM the beer kegs were rolled out, it felt like an earthquake. No rest at all. Very unhappy and would have complained more, but I know you will just pay me lip service. I should be compensated with cash as that room was too expensive for what it was. I did'nt give any review as it would be a waste of my time. I will not recommend anybody to stay at the kingsgate, unless the price is reduced. Especially rooms at rear of hotel are not worth it. Also, we noted a water leak under the floor, near bathroom, and bathroom tiled floor was leaking water from underneath. so i guess that is going to be expensive to repair. If the staff actually care to look. overall very disappointing

« Great location for business trip. »

Only stayed one night (Sunday) for business on the Monday, but the room was very clean, airy and newly renovated, with a window in the bathroom. My room was on the western side of the building (456) so I was lucky to have a good view, but the style of the old building showed internal light wells which meant all rooms had natural ventilation. Reception staff were very helpful in directing me to a local venue for dinner. It was located less than 5 minutes from Southern Cross station and more importantly almost across the road from my scheduled business in Bourke St. I would definitely recommend for people travelling on business on this side of Melbourne. However, I would like to see a more substantial breakfast offered as the booked breakfast option.
