Location to Southern Cross is the only thing good about this hotel if you just need a bed.

We selected our accomodation to suit our budget and would have been quite happy with a double bed. The installation of a queen bed made things difficult to access one side of the bed. The house keeping was very good and unexpected in the price range so that was a very nice surprise. It would be nice to have a toilet brush available to clean the bowl as required. Perhaps some limits could be applied to the use of the laundries in the eveninings and night, some people do not realise that someone may be sleeping below the laundry. A very convenient location for us and we will be back!

We enjoyed a 1 night stay at Ibis Kingsgate in a nicely renovated room. Room wasn't as small as expected and suited our needs. The continental buffet breakfast for $1 was a great inclusion and my husband upgraded to the cooked breakfast which he enjoyed.

I paid a good amount of money to stay here for 5 nights in late May. I was given a ground floor room facing a laneway, and not one of the good ones Melbourne is so known for. No, this was like a shoddy car park doubling as a construction zone. I'd have hoped for a bit more consideration when staying for this length of time, especially as a solo female traveler who is reasonably wary of ground floor rooms. The woman who checked me was pleasant and polite, but that was where the customer service ended. The male staff members absolutely refused to greet me or even acknowledge me at any point, except to give me the occasional dirty look as I left the hotel early each morning. I rang reception on the first night requesting an extra blanket as the ones provided were very thin. The man tried to refuse to help me, saying condescendingly, "you do know there's a thermostat in the room don't you?" I explained that I prefer to have extra weight on my feet when I sleep and so would like an extra blanket, which was begrudgingly brought to me 30 minutes later. When I opened the door, the man took a good look at me and stared past me into the room and looked around, seemingly noticing that I was alone, which again made me very uncomfortable. Also making me uncomfortable were the pillows, they are HORRENDOUS. Never got around to actually looking inside the pillow cases, but I can say with some certainty that they were just filled with cement blocks. Terrible. Housekeeping was rather useless. The only things they ever did really were make the bed and replace the towels with more poorly folded ones. Clearly didn't spend much time in the room at all - crumbs and dirt piled up on the floor quickly and was never cleaned, a dirty washcloth was left in the corner of the shower for three days, and I had to practically beg for a fresh box of facial tissues. Coffee station was only refreshed once in 5 days. Not impressed with this hotel and would not recommend to anyone, especially female travelers. The two positives of this hotel are the relative quiet at night - although I think I just got lucky with quiet neighbors, as I could tell the walls were very thin - and the close proximity to touristy places and Southern Cross Station. There are also at least four strip clubs within two blocks as well if you're into that sort of thing.

The room was very easy to book and the price was great value for money. The room was obviously recently renovated and was extremely clean and comfortable. The breakfast was lovely and a great price. A convenient central position. Would definitely stay again in the future.

Hotel is under renovation, hence noise level for such work is high. Housekeeping can be more thorough and details. Location is good, accessible to many places within the CBD. Staff are helpful.

First, the front door has big stair/steps to go through. With large suitcases? It's a nightmare for us small build women and maybe even worse for elderly. There was no help from any of the hotel's personnel. The hotel was under construction. So dusty and noisy. There's no way we could rest during the day. And all of those construction workers go back and fort in the elevator. Not a good sight. Then the worse experience staying in a hotel happened on the last night. Came back from a day trip late night, found the room door not closed/ajar. If it was our first night, we would have left the hotel and find other hotel for our SAFETY. Who would had been in our room? Did he/she do something in our room? Maybe planted some kind of teeny tiny camera? Who knows in this era. Reported to the hotel personnel, he said to wait for the manager the next morning when we had to leave very early morning. Not a good experience at all.

The hotel has carpet. It was not sufficiently clean. This type of surface finishing could be removed. Also, the coffee machine was broken by three days of my reservation. I would like to drink expressos instead of that weak coffee in the jar. I think the hotel could give me a partial refund of the value payed for the continental breakfast.
