« Reasonable hotel - needs some improvements »

This is my second stay at the Grand Mercure. I have stayed here for business purposes, because it's very closely located to many of the Chinese bank headquarters and shopping area. Also within walking distance of some key tourist attractions such as Tiananmen Square etc, and within a short walk of Xicheng subway station. The hotel seems to be very popular with local groups and tourists. The hotel doesn't seem to enforce a strict 'non-smoking' policy, and unfortunately cigarette smoke can be detected when walking down the hotel corridors. The front desk staff are helpful, and the club lounge staff are also friendly. However, generally speaking, the staff's proficiency in English is very low and it can be quite frustrating trying to explain requirements and generally be understood. Even room numbers are a problem for the staff who are not working at the front desk. The rooms themselves are quite spacious. However they are very old and dated and in desperate need of refurbishment. The bathrooms are small but have the essentials. As a Platinum member of Accor, I was expecting a coffee machine to be made available in my room, but unfortunately the hotel didn't have one (or they didn't understand my request!). However, they did arrange for a coffee to be delivered to my room on request each morning, which was a very nice gesture.

The room cleanliness was ok but the room was a bit old. The shower facility is meant to be a barrier free access but could lead to some water flowing out around the bathroom.

We enjoyed 3 days and were extremely comfortable. I did not particularly enjoy the breakfast as did not feel it met Accor standards. In particular Mr George Tang was amazing helping with apps for taxis, booking my online checkin and just in general being so pleasant and helpful

« Impossible to sum it up in one sentence »

I have been using your hotel for many years. I stay at your hotel at least twice a year and I usually bring along my colleagues. It seems that my colleague who is a British national will usually get a free upgrade pretty much automatically, whereas I (being a Chinese national) need to specifically request a free upgrade before I am given one. If and when I forgot to so request, I would not be given any upgrade. This has happened over and over again (including this time). Whilst I very much appreciate the free upgrades given to us so far (knowing that any upgrade is matter of your entire discretion), I am not sure the difference in treating your guests with different nationalities is in line with your management policy.

Concierge was very helpful. I am a bit unclear if 500RMB was blocked on my CC and unblocked or if 500RMB was charged and refunded. Haven't seen anything on my card statement yet. Liked the happy hour on the 10th floor. I arrived early morning fromEurope and a room was ready. Really liked that.

I booked this online because it was said to have updated room with nice picture of scandinavian modern design as a Grand Mercure should be. The rooms are horrible, TV equipment bad - this should be a 50 USD hotel at the max and lose the Mercure name. only positive was the checkin person who after trying to justify tried to help. unbelievable

« Good value for money, but rooms need renovating »

Good location. I was upgraded as per my platinum status. Room was very big. However the hotel is old and needs renovation. The all day restaurant is bright and well designed. Choice of food reasonable. I would stay again but would prefer a more modern / cleaner looking room.

« Great location but still lack in services »

Overall, it is okay since the hotel is strategically located in central Beijing. But the hotel services are somehow differ from the other international hotels. When we were rejected asked to reheat food for our daughter, citing reasons from hygiene to paperwork blablabla... the water boiler is also dirty with traces of oil on the bottom, we asked for a replacement but the problem still exists with the new water boiler...
