We have stayed at The Francis Hotel many times; it is a lovely hotel in a lovely location. The new wing (our room 115) is not as nice as the rest of the hotel and we could not heat the room; as we were only there for a night we did not raise this. Our evening event was excellent in the right size room with lovely staff. Pudding was a bit weak with a pavlova made with rockhard (bought-in?) meringue but it did not spoil a lovely occasion. Breakfast was excellent.

Three issues, two of which could be improved: 1. On the second day of my stay i could not get an omelette for breakfast i.e. there was no a la carte menu available. And this was on Sunday morning. Simply unacceptable for a four star hotel. 2. The wardrobe in the room was mouldy. My clothes still smell despite being aired for two days after my stay in Bath. 3. The walls are very thin. I was very unlucky to be in the room next to a snorer.

Everything was very good except for poor TV range of programmes. Programme list incorrect in services booklet. Pus remote didn't work properly. Not full range of freeview programmes and need sky news. Available in most upgrade hotels.

There was quite a walk to our room from reception however the decor is very good and the room nicely furnished, I especially like how the make a point of having different decor for the different houses that made up the building. All the staff we spoke with were extremely personable and helpful. The breakfast was excellent. The manned reception area is very small and the desks very open which did make it look a little cluttered at times, I feel this could do with a rethink. In our room the kettle was placed under glass shelving and the condensation meant it became hot and damp on the shelf above. Room needs a pen or pencil added, dining info was missing from the welcome book in the room and we were not advised of the check out time at any point. The bathroom (which was surprisingly small for a 4 star hotel) needs a soap dish, the shower also caused the door to the bathroom to become very wet and the bathroom door was partly see through which would not be ideal in a twin room if sharing with a colleague or friend rather than a partner.

Hotel itself is lovely. Room was very nicely done and clean with everything needed. I found one of the receptionist rather curt when I enquired after 2.00 pm how much longer our rooms would be as we were told they would be ready at 2.00 pm and we (11 of us) were all waiting to go to something we had booked. I was particularly disappointed with the restaurant. Breakfast was average. We also ate there one night and service was extremely slow and the food was rather tasteless to be honest. Such as shame as the hotel itself is lovely and very well located.

Overall we enjoyed our stay in a lovely location. Two things I would like to point out which we experienced on arrival: 1) we had booked afternoon tea which was 30 minutes late. 2) We had booked the special offer which included 2 tickets to the Roman Bath; we were told that these tickets would be ready for pick up on arrival. They were not available when we arrived. We received conflicting information from Reception: eg: we were asked to buy the tickets and we would be getting a refund, on another occasion we were told that the tickets would be ready in 20 minutes which they were not. Several times we had to follow this up and eventually we obtained them in time for us to enjoy.
