WE'D BEEN UPGRADED BUT THE ROOM WE WERE UPGRADED TO LOOKED OVER THE CAR PARK, SKIP AND BINS, SO I WAS QUITE DISAPPOINTED. HOWEVER THE RECEPTIONIST WHEN I INFORMED HER OF THIS UPON CHECK OUT DIDN'T CHARGE ME FOR IT, SO THAT WAS A NICE GESTURE. HOWEVER I ALSO LET THE HOTEL KNOW BEFORE BOOKING AND WHILST THERE IT WAS MY HUSBANDS BIRTHDAY AND NOTHING WAS DONE OR MENTIONED. AGAIN THE GIRL ON RECEPTION APOLOGISED ON CHECKOUT BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN A MORE MEMORABLE EXPERIENCE

We had high hopes for our stay as it was for my wife's birthday weekend treat. Initially we were very pleased with the ambiance of all the public areas, and couldn't wait to see our room as were expecting something a little special. Oh dear how wrong. We had just come from an overnight stay in a Premier Inn in the center of Bristol which was basic but had a much more comfortable bed and was immaculately clean, unlike the Francis, which was quite grubby with broken fittings on the toilet seat and towel rails hanging off the wall. We wanted a coffee and knew we had tea/coffee making facilities but didn't think we would have to share one small packet of biscuits (for one). The mini bar was a little disappointing as it contained just 2 bottles of water. I would like to include some photos taken but there is no option to do this on this survey unfortunately.

The room was freezing cold, I had to have the heating on constantly at 27 to get nice heat however the bathroom had no heating and was freezing cold and made our showering an unpleasant experience. After complaining you did move me for the 2nd night. I could have stayed at a premier inn for a lot cheaper rate and if I was unsatisfied I would not have had to pay for the room. The majority of the staff were friendly but the lady that checked us in was not so helpful, no map offered of the area and not suggestions of where to visit. Overall I am sorry to say that I was not happy with my stay at the Francis Hotel

Staff professional and helpful. As soon as we walked into the room, it felt like walking into a fridge it was so cold. We immediately adjusted the temperature dial and waiting for the fan to activate with warm air. In the meantime we tried making a warm drink, but had to phone reception for a kettle and more biscuits, as two people were staying in the room. When the heating system didn't work we phoned reception for supplementary heating. This didn't work either, but by this time we'd lost confidence in any facility working. Too many things added up to make us overall disappointed.

Location excellent for major tourist sites - very handy when it rains! Building elegant and very well maintained. Staff polite and well trained. Room excellent (paid upgrade) overlooking The Square. Breakfast staff and Bar staff very efficient and polite with food offering excellent. Dinner in Restaurant was very good and certainly Value for Money. Negatives - couldn't open the bedroom window but may be a security device?The shower cubicle needs a door - for your sake not guests! And the painting on the ceiling above the bed of a "Sheep Pasture" needs more sheep - not enough to count to encourage sleep!!

I had asked for a room overlooking the square and it was nice that was given to us. However we were disappointed because it was small. I had been offered an upgrade but chose on this occasion not to take it. The staff were very helpful. A comment from my husband. There was no black pudding with breakfast !

The hotel was in process of refurbishment so there was some unavoidable noise and disruption. The 'superior' twin did not live up to that description. The sofa bed was obviously broken though we did not need to use it and the view was over the car park. We were offered a choice of other rooms and took one. The staff were very pleasant and professional. The breakfast bar was particularly good with food being replenished regularly. We would be happy to stay at The Francis hotel again.

Courteous staff, relaxing ambience, fantastic central location. Could provide more selection for vegetarians at breakfast. Options very limited on cooked breakfast. No alternatives offered. Also alternative to dairy produce eg soya or oat milk with cereal selection. This wasn’t advised at all just vague mention of allergies or dietary requirements on rear of menu.
