Superior room booked, but the 1st night, the builders came in to the restaurant right under our window. Woke us up around 1, concierge told them to stop. Continued about 1 hour later. More complaints finally stopped the drilling and banging. Next morning offered an uograde pkus lubch and a glass of wine. All good but expected better from a good hotel.

Very warm welcome with your reception staff. Room was lovely . Breakfast VERY DISAPPOINTING!!!!!! The restaurant for breakfast was open until 11.00am we arrived at 10.15 am to find that what was left of the English breakfast was cold and the eggs hard!!!! No selection of bread . Fresh fruit had come to an end & no selection of croissants etc . Coffee when it arrived was also Luke warm. When I complained they did make me a fresh breakfast but I should not have had to complain. Not a good way to start the day!!!!! For £15 I felt we should have had a better choice . Needs to be looked at!!!!

« A pleasant stay, despite the weird idea of having a painting fixed to the ceiling - weird and not even a nice picture! »

nice - though I was disturbed by the picture on the ceiling - that's just weird and I wouldn't return on that basis. Was there a hidden camera I wonder? the mind boggles and like I say, it was weird. Also breakfast was v. mediocre for a hotel of this calibre - beans and fried eggs were luke warm, not hot and it just wasn't the great cooked breakfast we were expecting. Finally - NEVER enough milk cartons for making our own coffee - always a problem wherever we stay.

Only complaint we had was that our room overlooked the car and on one occasion a lorry arrived at 6.30 in the morning unload8ng scaffolding. Followed an hour later by bottles being moved. However, despite this, we found the hotel excellent.

It's the 6th time I've been to the Francis Hotel and I always enjoy the experience. There isn't enough room for one of my later answers so I'll continue here. It was a little disappointing that I couldn't get into my room until 2.30. When I'd booked I said I would arrive as close to 2.00 as I could but when I arrived at 2.00 they had to check to see if my room was ready. I was asked to sit and wait and as I thought it would only be for a few minutes I didn't order a drink but if I'd known it would be for half an hour (I went back to the desk, nobody came to speak to me) I would have ordered a tea rather than just sit there on my own doing nothing for 30 minutes. I did get an apology and was told the system wasn't updating properly, which I completely understand, but it was a bit of a niggle as my stay is a once a year treat to myself and I like to spend the maximum amount of time I can in the room. I was also a little disappointed that the cost of the room had gone up so much from my visit last year. I prefer not to book things over the internet as I don't have internet access at home and it's a shame I possibly miss out on the better deals.

Very nice, check in could have been better no mention of WiFi, breakfast times or parking even though these were being used/part of the package. Was told I'd checked in online even though I hadn't, told them this at the desk no change to service. More milk in the rooms would be good.

The staff were welcoming and friendly, our room was pleasant though not "superior" which is what we booked. Being charged £15 to park our car compared favourably to the public car park but charging your guests to park their car is not a great move. The breakfast was good, but not great.

From start to finish just beautiful! Room (114) Fantastic. The flowers and bubbles arranged on arrival just brilliant (little note received from all the staff, lovely touch)! Breakfast was cracking! We stayed for my fiancee' 60th birthday. There was a lovely touch of a bottle of champagne on ice in our room on arrival. The staff were all so friendly and very informative about the city. The room James Bell is so comfortable and spacious. My only negative is the bathroom would benefit from a hand mirror so that I could see easier to do my makeup. There is a huge mirror but sadly I'm too short to lean towards it over the sink!! But that's a seriously minor critiscm. We both love the Francis, and always have a great experience when we stay.

« An historic hotel in the perfect Bath location »

The Francis is marvelously located for all of the major activities in Bath. Its stylish exterior is unfortunately not matched by the interior. It is obvious that there are many levels and qualities of rooms, as they are spread among the amalgamation of several connected houses. Our room was nothing special and not of the standard expected of a Sofitel property. The quality of bed we have come to expect from Sofitel was not evident at the Francis. The room was musty, as was the overall air quality of the entire wing we were located in. A decent place to stay and probably fine for most travelers, but not of the standard we were expecting, especially for what we paid.
