My boyfriend and I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. Our room was very comfortable and well appointed, staff were polite, friendly and extremely helpful, and breakfast was delicious each day. The location was perfect, bring easily accessible yet still feeling remote, and it made a great 'basecamp' for going walking on Box Hill. The only negative point was that when we were having a drink at the hotel bar/lounge (which was also a lovely space with a chilled out atmosphere), was that the wine was very overpriced. We will definitely be coming back again however, and are already looking forward to our next visit.

Last minute booking as we were attending an event at nearby Denbies Wine Estate. Friendly and helpful staff. Booked a classic double - Room was a nice size and the bed was extremely comfortable. Room was v quiet and the buffet breakfast was good value. Couldn’t fault the hotel and my partner noticed an outdoor pool in the garden which could be nice in the summer.. Assuming it does actually exist !

Welcome and service was friendly and excellent. Sadly the room was not the standard expected. The basin was cracked, the bath panel was suffering from damp and the bedroom had a damp patch on the ceiling. Very grateful that it was very clean and presented well.

The location was convenient for us and the hotel building was beautiful. The staff and service though lacked. When arrived and booked in were given our keys and directed to rooms, no additional info such as breakfast times or check out times. Unfortunately there was dirty tissue beside my bedwhich was off putting but the sheets seamed clean. The main issue occurred around breakfast time, specifically the time of service, we were guided by the information in our room that clearly states service in the restaurant until 10am (I have photo) but when we got to the restaurant at 9:33 we were told it was finished and it was already cleared away! I mention that the room states 10am but the staff were rather rude and said I was wrong and pointed to the printed paper at the restaurant entrance. I wasn’t positive if it was my mistake so asked if something could be done to offer us some breakfast and they offer us cereal and toast with no butter or jams. It was most disappointing to then return to our room and discover I was correct about the information on the room and when I mentioned this at check out they tried to use the “small print” excuse but I had the page with me with no conditions mentioned. Then blamed the person checking me in that she should have informed me, then said it was a print error in the room, which seamed a more permanent item than the paper print on at the breakfast entrance. I was annoyed at these excuses and felt the staff really didn’t want to help or take any responsibility. I had to ask for a refund on my breakfast as I said I didn’t get the service I expected as she started to tell me I had breakfast so I had to fight for that to be refunded as we weren’t offered the selection in the time that was clearly a breakfast period and it felt like they tried to shorten the breakfast service period from what is on the hotel printed material in the rooms.

I only stayed one night as I was travelling on business. The hotel is not only in a lovely location it is also a great hotel. Being a smaller hotel you do not get the feeling you are just another guest. The welcome and service at breakfast and dinner made me feel I was important to the hotel. The room, although a little small was warm, peaceful and very clean. I have already booked another stay. thank you

« Tired hotel in need of a refurb »

The room was tired and in need of a complete refurb and needs to be modernised. There was a strong smell of food coming from the restaurant into my room, which wasn't very pleasant at all. This was the first time I stayed at this hotel and I don't think I will stay again... On the flip side, the restaurant where I had breakfast in the morning was very good and the staff were extremely helpful and polite.
