« Overnight Stay »

Stayed overnight on the way to Gatwick. Enjoyed the stay. Much more relaxed than the Gatwick hotels.Good value for money. Enjoyed the evening meal, although portions were fairly small. Good breakfast!

« The hotel was nice but felt things were a little unorganised and our room was infested with black ladybirds! »

The stay was not pleasant due to the room being infested with black ladybirds. They were in the room and bathroom, flying around, crawling on us and my daughter was freaked out so we all had very little sleep. The room was too hot and you could smell smoke from the smokers.

Dear Kelly P., Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge Hotel. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. We did have a ladybird problem this autumn and tried many ways to clear our hotel of them, when we clean every room, we leave them with no ladybirds, unfortubmnately even in just a few hours, some have re-entered through vents etc. We are clear of them now and will have our pest control add preventative measures for the coming year. We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Sincerely, David Thomas General Manager

« Lovely hotel, friendly, helpful staff. Would love to stay there again. »

Lovely hotel, all the staff we met were very friendly & helpful. Room was clean & bed comfortable. Breakfast was delicious. We were at a function in the garden room, the room was beautifully decorated for Christmas & the waiting staff were extremely helpful. We would love to stay there again.

« Awful »

Awful. Sound insulation in bedrooms is shocking you can hear everything from people in the next room to people walking in the hallway. We were placed close to a Christmas party with loud music. Ultimately it was the worst night sleep I have ever had and quite possibly the worst hotel I have stayed in.

Dear Mr b., Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge Hotel. I am sorry that your stay with us was so awful and that we are the worst hotel you have ever stayed in. I am aware of some rooms where the sound proofing is not sufficient, as you may know we are a listed building and there are limitations to what we can do with the historic parts of the hotel. I appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is my hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Sincerely, David Thomas General Manager

Was very surprised to be woken just before midnight from reception calling my room asking if I had paid for a meal that we had in the hotel earlier that evening (it had been paid in full at the table) Would have thought this could have been dealt with in the morning upon check out (you had already taken a swipe of my card upon arrival). Seems very odd to call so late and wake guests up ?

« All ok, no better. »

Had checked in online, still had to wait over 5 minutes for our key whilst the only "receptionist" was on the phone in the back office, and didn't acknowledge us. When we got our key she seemed to assume we would know where to go. We had a garden room and head down in the rain we felt the signage could have been more obvious. We wanted a drink and a sandwich, again waited 5 minutes at the bar, no sign of staff, went to reception and were told they were in the kitchen and would be back shortly. Sure enough a barman appeared with sandwiches for other guests and then took or order. We assumed he was on his own until we saw two other staff members serving/clearing, we were surprised this meant the bar was left unmanned at times. Room (123) was fine, not new but not too tired, apart from some black staining (mould?) on the shower head which was a little disappointing. Didn't eat in the hotel in the evening. There was a large group in the hotel and the buffet breakfast was busy but pretty good, although the electric "hotplates" were struggling at keeping the quantities of egg & beans etc warm. We chose the hotel as its location was ideal for our visit. We might use it again for that reason but all in all we felt the staff were just doing their jobs, which happened to include interacting with us.

« Lovely hotel with friendly staff »

I stayed for two nights to attend a family AGM which is held at the hotel. The rooms are nicely decorated but I was disappointed that there was no safe in my room. We had a meal in the restaurant which was very good and the staff very pleasant and friendly.

« Very comfortable stay »

Nice room, good service - really appreciated that you have dental kits - although £2.50 a bit steep, particularly for regular guests!

« Excellent food, service and staff »

We returned recently for our one year anniversary complimentary stay - a dinner, bed and breakfast stay was part of our wedding package when we were married at the venue last year. All the staff are still as friendly as ever, from the reception to the restaurant. We enjoyed a drink in the bar, and then a fab 3-course meal. Special mention to the main head waiter / sommelier - he remembered us from last year's food and wine tasting / stay, and it was lovely to catch up with him. The room itself was perfectly fine. Breakfast the next morning was as excellent as before, a great variety across the buffet and the head waiter for the breakfast service was also the same as last year - a really friendly, helpful guy who went out of his way to be nice to guests and accommodate their needs. We hope to visit again in the future and reminisce about our wonderful wedding!

« Not at the Same Standard as Others »

The receptionists were extremely polite and welcoming but that was the only good part of our stay We were allocated one room and it was freezing cold , a heater was offered but it would have been inadequate , so another room was allocated . This was in a different part of the building and could be accessed from the hotel by ascending a short flight of steps. Unfortunately at night they were NOT illuminated and I nearly fell down The new room was warmer, the thermostat seemed to be broken though as we set it to 30C and it was no where near that. The radiators did not work and we could not find where heating was getting into the room We went to the bar at 4pm and ordered a slice of cake, I am not sure if t had been frozen or just stale, but it was dried out and virtually inedible Finally when we ordered breakfast the next day the cafetieres did not work and the staff confirmed problems with those, and quickly replaced the one we could not use. My wife tried the fruit bowl and remarked that it tasted "fizzy" which meant that it too was stale. We were placed in the hotel by a friend who has a Corporate account and puts many clients there during the year I have previously stayed in Mercure hotels in London, Windsor and Singapore and this hotel is no where as their level.

Absolutely brilliant. Feel very welcome, came back in August and staff remembered us which was very nice. Rooms are lovely. Cannot think of one bad thing about the stay.

« Surprisingly reasonable »

A quaint hotel located within Surrey Hills, not too far from the M25. There is ample parking located opposite the hotel. The room were surprisingly better than I expected. It was very spacious, clean with the usual facilities provided. There were plenty of plug sockets, which you don't usually find in many other hotels. The Wifi was very strong and reliable throughout the hotel. The bathroom was also spacious. However, ladybugs were appearing in the bathroom. The blinds in the bathroom looked old and in a state. There was draft coming through the windows. And the creaking floorboards in the hallway was rather annoying at times. The staff were pretty good, especially when I checked out. I was asked if I slept well, due to a party being held in the hotel. Luckily, there wasn't much noise that disturbed my sleep, despite some of the people talking loudly outside. It's not a bad hotel to stay.

« Good »

I stayed 2 nights, nice accommodation, nice staff, 2 receptionist on check-in, 1 French speaker, the other one was slow, probably new but very professional. I enjoyed breakfast and the food at the restaurant. Quiet environment :).

On arrival all ok. Food in good. Staff excellent. Rooms like an old peoples home. Very old fashioned. Bed lumpy. Sheets old. Pillows like rock

Dear Karen B., Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Box Hill Burford Bridge Hotel. I am sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations; please allow me to express my sincerest apologies. I'm pleased you found my staff excellent and my food good, this really pleases me and I will pass your comments to the team. I'm sorry that you feel the rooms are like an old peoples home, we are a listed building and are limited somewhat however we certainly dont want to be seen as very old fashioned. I am quite new here and am working with my seniors on new beds and pillows for the rooms as I have had this feedback before. I appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is my hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. Sincerely, David Thomas General Manager
