« Could have been better. »

The check in on Friday night was a long winded affair. The receptionist seemed flustered & despite having given my Accor membership number, she didn’t appear to have it so wrote it down on a piece of paper saying she would enter it later. The noise level was very disruptive owing to the high base level of the music on both Friday & Saturday nights. I appreciate it is a wedding/party venue so music is to be expected , but the base level is completely unnecessary as other guests want to sleep. We had to completely remake the bed on Friday night as it was strangely lumpy. What we did not expect to find was a face cloth under the sheet!!! Not sure if it had been used. Left it on the chair only to find it still there on our return on Saturday evening. The facilities & toiletries were good & the breakfast was excellent. Overall somewhat disappointing.

Very comfy bed. Only one face flannel for 2 people. Unpleasant smell in the bathroom - damp,musty . Good tv. Check-out person very pleasant but check-in person had quite an abrupt , not very friendly manner.

We were given plenty of time to set up for our evening party,and the staff were very helpful in sorting any problems.The buffet was outstanding,with plenty of food for our guests.Those that stayed the night commented on the high quality of the rooms,and all enjoyed the complementary breakfast.

« Quality accommodation with room for improvement. »

It was a lovely hotel and grounds and the breakfast was excellent. One of the bedside lamps was unsecure and not working (not the bulb) though it was fixed after reporting it. The fixed shower head was most inconvenient, particularly for one infirmed family member. I didn’t appreciate having to go searching the hotel for bar staff, that said, the staff were very pleasant. English very clearly not being the first language of the majority of the staff did create some confusion, particularly financially, causing some anxiety. The deactivation of the keycard at precisely checkout time felt to me somewhat draconian and rude, which would have been most inconvenient had someone accidentally left some belongings in the room. Overall we did enjoy our stay but felt obliged to be honest and accurate about the areas requiring improvement.

« Fantastic time from start to finish »

It was a surprise for my husband for our first wedding anniversary as we got married at the hotel the previous year. We had an amazing time, our meal in the restaurant was lovely and as ever the staff were brilliant. « Great Stay - the staff are fantastic »

We stay here a few times a year and the staff are always great. The welcome is so friendly and all the staff are great, from reception to those 'invisible' ones you rarely see. We had such a lovely greeting and smile from one of the housekeepers. At breakfast Johnathan was asking people how they were whilst he was buzzing around replenishing and clearing the buffet. We stayed in one of the rooms in the main building which was great. The only negative is that the hotel is a little over heated. We all felt it was very warm whilst having breakfast. Thank you for a great stay!

The rooms were tired and blah feeling. The colors were drab and the lighting was very poor. The overall room did not feel inviting. The front desk staff were fine, but not overly friendly. I thought the price of the room was very high for what we got. And finally, we were a group of 5 rooms, all reserved at the same time for an event at the hotel, and we all paid a different price. In some cases, it was GBP30 different.....which did not make sense.

Lovely hotel set at the bottom of Box Hill. The rooms were clean and ours overlooked the gardens. The hotel staff were welcoming and attentive, and the food excellent, both the dinner service and later on from the bar menu. My only negative would be that it was a little pricey for a one night stay especially if you include breakfast.

Food was excellent, well above average Garden suite rooms are very tired (generous comment), they are clean but that's all. Bed an sofa are extremely well worn and not up to any standard I would pay for. The hotel is often running near full occupancy (apparently) but refuses to update its rooms. There are many things in the hotels favour, its location its ties to business and its quaintness. Profit seems to be coming before investment which in my experience often happens to hotels which are perceived as cash cows in a chain.

The only member of staff that seemed to have any desire to offer a level of acceptable customer service was the night porter. The bar and restaurant staff were very rude, the waiting time for food was totally unacceptable and having to order your dessert with your main course ridiculous. Told that the kitchens close for any orders, ever after dinner coffee, at 9.30pm. We were still eating our food and everything came to a grinding halt, the staff seemed very put out that we wanted to use the restaurant and indicated that we should have eaten in the bar. As a group we stayed two evenings and ate both times in the hotel with dire service, all the group were shocked at such terrible service and what could only be classed as bad manners. Really felt uncomfortable and like we were an inconvenience. Only one other table in use in the restaurant and they were also complaining. Our table was booked for 7pm and we were still waiting for main courses at 9.05pm. Please do something to change this as it is not acceptable.
