« My conference stay »

This hotel was almost perfect for my overnight stay and attendance at our company conference. I would say though that although I turned the radiator off when I checked into my room, by midnight there was still no respite from the heat - not helped by the extremely thick duvet on what would have otherwise been a lovely comfortable bed. Staff were helpful and the breakfast was lovely.

« Great charactor hotel »

This is the second time that we have stayed here. The main hotel is old and full of character, plus it is situated in the heart of Banbury. Parking was easy although the entrance is tight. The real asset of this hotel is, however, the staff who could not have been more friendly and helpful and made our stay extremely pleasant.

« Easter stay »

This is the second time at Whately Hall and we again enjoyed our stay. I would say the only downside was us vacating our room due to the Fire Alarm developing a fault at 6.45 on Easter Sunday morning. Other than that, we would stay again.

« Dinner was a bit of a farce, because the food and wine we chose were not available »

Hotel looking very tired. Dinner was adequate, breakfast was good. Room was adequate, but not many toiletries. Bath was very difficult to get out of for older people. Bed was very comfortable. No newspapers available to buy. Had to cross two roads to get to small supermarket.

Room was an executive suite. Living room was comfortable. Bedroom - couldn't work out how I could watch the tv in bed as the door was in the way. There was a fire alarm in the Sunday morning and although the receptionist apologised when we checked out there was no apology. There wasn't many people who came out of their rooms either. It soured our stay.

« Dated, noisy. »

Accommodation was very dated and noisy. Bed cover still had old hairs on them. Fire alarm went off randomly in the middle of the night. No offer to help with evidently very heavy bags, despite saying our room was in the old part of the hotel with no lift, another customer very kindly did after seeing me struggle.

One suggestion is that I arrived about midnight. I found the parking in the rear, but it was not obvious on how to find the front door to enter the Registration. You could place a sign on the side door by the parking when the side door is locked.

Not very impressed for 3 main reasons: 1. Were led to believe we would be upgraded at zero cost - we weren't. 2. Instructions at reception for getting to Room 141 were 'go down the corridor and turn right. In the event it was either climb the stairs up to the 4th floor, with luggage(not a pleasant thing for an 83 year or go outside in the rain to an adjoining building and get the lift. No mention was made of the lift option at reception. 3. Woken up very early on Sunday morning by the fire alarm. Found out from other guests that it was a false alarm. An apology for this at reception when checking out would have been nice, Not all bad news, however, compliments to all of the staff in the dining room. Breakfast was excellent.

I have addressed your complaints regarding the receptionist directly with him and new Front Office Manager and can only apologise, the team now know if they cannot offer immediate assistance with luggage then they will offer to tag it and deliver it tot he room as soon as they can. Again my apologies for the fire alarm which when a guests activated the call point when leaving the building and for lack of proper explanation from the hotel team. Very pleasant. Room very nice and comfortable bed. Reception very welcoming, very pleasant and helful young man. Hornton bar very nice and we thoroughly enjoyed playing pool in the separate annexe to the bar.

Had no heating in our bedroom all night. Rang reception and they sent a man up with a plug in heater. No one was interested in getting to the bottom of the problem. Just told the radiators must be on timers. This was room 87.

I was impressed by the 17 century feeling you have, while staying in this hotel. Despite of it's vintage looks, it is very comfortable and "warm". Very nice and helpful staff.

« Hotel generally felt grotty. Bar area for eating evening meal was uncomfortable and dated. Bathroom felt dirty. »

My first thoughts on arriving outside were that the hotel was rather grand, and would I be ok in my jeans and Converse! Reception was ok although due to an admin error with the guest in front of me, it was 45 minutes after arriving that I got into my room. The lady on Reception was lovely and very apologetic, and I wasn't in a rush, but the hotel seemed under-staffed and there was no one to help her deal with the queue that was forming. My room was grotty. The bathroom tiles had black and pink mould on them and on the floor, giving an overall appearance of uncleanliness. I also had a room which could adjoin next door and this felt quite unnerving and strange for a lady staying alone. Staff in the bar were very friendly and couldn't do enough for me. The food and wine were good. However, the bar area is drab and dated which again gave the overall appearance of needing a good clean. It would be nice to see this area decorated in a style more in-keeping with the age of the building. Can't fault any of the staff who were brilliant. It would be nice to see the hotel renovated.
