Advert for hotel was extremely misleading. Building was in a very poor state. Our rooms looked like they were part of a council block. The showers were too short to have a proper shower.

Having stayed many times I felt that standards were dropping. Housekeeping devices were not as good in the bedroom with dirty or dingy linen and an unclean bathroom Breakfast was very dried up.

The reason for our stay was my sisters wake. The overall experience was good, although after specifically mentioning that we wanted the bars well staffed as we expected them to be busy , the service received from them was extremely poor, almost shambolic. There was also no lager available on draught , so we were paying £4.40 for a bottle instead of £4.60 a pint! Some guests waited 30 minutes to get served. All team were courteous and polite, the main restaurant room was perfect for our requirements and the buffet was good. The bedroom was comfortable , but dated. Shower curtains and net curtains could do with being changed !

Had not stayed at Whately Hall for a while but was pleasantly surprised , we had previously not been impressed by the menu choice but now the menu has improved we would certainly stay again. Our room was very clean , quiet and had a lovely view over the garden ,. Staff were very friendly and helpful . Only one small issue , the breakfast chef seemed incapable of cooking a perfect poached egg ! after several attempts I was served an acceptable couple of soft poached eggs a great improvement on the first offered which was so hard it rolled off the toast !

We found the hotel staff polite and efficient but thr hotel itself was shabby and very tired looking could do with a major refurbishment.

Staff are great and the breakfast was great. But don't for a second believe the photos on the website. I upgraded to an executive room and really regretted it. The decor is so run down, shabby and dated Mercure should be ashamed to have their name on it

Stay was ok, but the whole hotel is in need of updating. The room was seriously disappointing and scruffy. I really regret upgrading to an executive room.

Perfect location, bedroom of a good size but in desperate need of updating. Both the bedrooms and public areas looking very tired. Also the bar wasn't staffed in the evening so everytime we wanted a drink we had to go to reception which also was unmanned on a few occasions to try and find someone to serve us. It is a shame as this could be a stunning hotel.

I booked my August break in January, expecting to be allocated one of the 'better' rooms ie recently refurbished or redecorated. On arrival I was allocated Room 124. This room is shabby; dilapidated sofa, mould around bath and basin, dirty grouting, bath taps were loose, light shades were lopsided, housing for fridge but no fridge, dirty windows. In my view an example of a lack of care for the customer's experience. I complained to the manager on duty who explained that the hotel was fully booked so instead offered me a free drink from the bar. I expressed my extreme disappointment in the room I was allocated and said a drink would certainly not make me feel better. The manager then said room 27 was available but it was smaller than room 124. We viewed room 27 which although smaller was less shabby ( sealant around the bath not mildewed, taps not loose) and it had a fridge! We agreed to transfer to room 27 for our 4 night stay. I was happy with the staff at the hotel however i feel the hotel itself needs some investment to bring it up to an acceptable standard. Unfortunately this has shaken my confidence in booking an Accor Hotel and it is unlikely I will choose an Accor Hotel in the future.

Pleasant and interesting stay in a great historic room. Service and food were a little uncertain at the first evening dinner and breakfast - first class prices, for less-than-first-class food and surroundings (picture window surrounds seemed long un-cleaned). Didn't dine in again, though we happily dined in on three successive nights lately, in two hotels of similar price. The second breakfast was much better, with friendly, prompt service, and appetising, fresh-cooked food. Good that staff members at every level always greeted on sight. We like the hotel and staff, but were paying 'celebration' price for less than celebration menu.

The staff are efficient and very helpful. However, since our last stay the hotel feels a little tired and the cost of our Saturday night B&B package at £177 was not good value. the rate of £132 was nearer the mark for the standard. We had booked a suite but there there was no wow factor. Everything was clean and tidy but no feeling of luxury or anything special. We were in the new wing which probably accounts for this.

« A comfortable stay in a lovely hotel with a great location »

We stayed 4 nights in the newer part of the hotel. Our room was very spacious with a king size bed and modern bathroom en suite. The room was quiet and overlooked the gardens at the back of the hotel. The staff were friendly, helpful and professional. We were staying during the Cropredy festival and the hotel was well located to get the bus or taxis to the festival.
