« Another okay stay »

I stay with you regularly for my job and I find the rooms of very varying quality. This time I stayed in room 114 - good points the window opens, spacious room with a sofa which was a bonus. The bed was very comfortable however the first thing I noticed was a 50p sized stain on the quilt cover - had whoever made the bed taken a minute to think this would have gone unnoticed if the quilt cover was reversed (it was clean just stained) and my other disappointment was that when using the toilet you can see behind the radiator and there is many mints of dust behind there which needs to be addressed. I do like staying at the hotel as its convenient, the staff are amazing, the food is great and overall its fine - just needs a little thought in some areas.

The building is beautiful with original paneling and features. Reception and lounge were warm and comfortable. The room was comfortable, and unlike many hotels not too hot. Although it looked to be a while since it was refurbished the bedroom was clean, comfortable and in good working order. This was a very comfortable stay. As we were meeting with family we did not try the food.

Nice hotel, centre of Banbury which is what we wanted. Lots of character, clean but could feel bed springs so perhaps new mattress? Staff very nice especially young waiter at breakfast, however breakfast not so good. Breakfast served 7.30 9.30 and we went down about 9 and hot food looked as though had been there since 7.30 .

Lovely stay would of been a 10/10 but fire alarms went of early in the morning & had to evacuate hotel, false alarm thank goodness, I was so looking forward to a lay in .. dinner was 10/10’and bed was 10/10 would definitely go back

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Banbury Whately Hall Hotel. I am very sorry for the shortfall in your dining experience I will most certainly look into your comments with our Head Chef and Food and Beverage Manager as to why there were items missing from the menu and why the room service trays were not collected. Naturally I am aware of the fire alarm, having read the report from our Duty Manager I can see that whilst guests were evacuating she and another member of the team went to investigate the location of the fire alarm and as they were en-route advising guests to leave the building whilst the alarm was being investigated whilst keeping in contact with our Receptionist as is our hotel procedure. I do know that some of the guests followed the evacuation signs t the rear of the hotel car park where she came and took down details of who was present but I do know that some guests assembled at the front of the hotel. Upon quick discovery that the fore was not real our Duty Manager informed guests that were congregated that they could re enter the building. We work in conjunction with the local fire officer and it is our procedure not to call them until it is established that there is a fore as we do get many false alarms when guests smoke in areas they should not. I am sorry if you were not one of the guests who was spoken with by the Duty Manager but I can assure you that we followed procedure and had it been deemed necessary the Fire Brigade would of been called and been made aware of which rooms were occupied and of any guests who had notified us of requiring special assistance in the vent of an evacuation. As a gesture of apology for the inconvenience and poor dining experience I would like to allocate you 2000 Le Club points to your Le Club account as an apology. Once again I am sorry that on this occasion we failed to deliver the normal levels of service that we pride ourselves upon offering. Yours Sincerely, Michael Williams General Manager

our experience this year was excellent. the food was very good and nicely presented. the staff could not have done more for us. we were really impressed with REVI who was not only very courteous and helpful but very talented when he sang on Boxing Night. REVI really made our stay special and he is a really nice person and is an asset to the Whateley.. We have been staying at this hotel now for many many years and apart from 1 bad stay a couple of years ago cannot praise the hotel enough. CHARLIE also deserves special praise as always he does everything to make sure we are enjoying our stay and he is also a very special person and an asset to the hotel.

Once again we had a wonderful Christmas with our family thanks to the attention of the whole team at Whately Hall, Banbury. Particular thanks to Charlie, who as always looked after us with his usual cheerful, professional manner, and also special thanks to Revi, who made our stay very enjoyable and we particularly enjoyed his wonderful singing on Boxing Day. Thanks also to the young waiters and waitresses. The ladies at breakfast were also very attentive to our needs. The housekeeping was spotless and the rooms were serviced to a very high standard. « Comfortable stay with excellent staff. »

Hotel is looking slightly tired. Furnishings in bedroom and public areas could benefit from a refurbishment, but the building has character, and the staff are very attentive. Breakfast was very good, but pity no food available at 2.00 pm when we were looking for a bar meal. Advised all the kitchen staff had already left! Enjoyable stay, and would recommend.

« A satisfactory visit providing all that was required »

Overall a very good stay, good room, breakfast and service. One problem though, as there were Christmas parties on both nights of my stay, only cold food was available before 8.00pm. I would like to have been warned of this before hand as on the Friday night I was hungry from travelling and only had a sandwich. It was an excellent sandwich but I would have preferred something more substantial.
