« Very pleasant stopover »

Short stop over on a long journey, so we only used the room and did not eat any meals there. Good check in. Room was spacious and very clean, although it appeared rather dated we were very happy with it. Plenty of hot water. Comfortable bed and crisp linen. All staff we passed on walking through hotel said hello and smiled which means a lot, from the gardener to girls setting up conferences. Very pleasant, good value stay.

Room and breakfast spot on. Dinner chaotic - although food was fine, the service in a side room with the unnecessary music of an empty wedding reception in main dining area was rather haphazard. At least the staff did their best. If we stay again we will dine in the town next time.

Lovely hotel and staff but could do with a little decorating in the bathrooms, stayed in basic and bigger rooms and both bathrooms looked very old and dirty, very clean but dirty looking. Breakfast staff lovey and breakfast very nice

Staff in the bar could have benefited from more training, we had to tell them how to make a shandy. The rooms were very pleasant, clean and comfortable, although air conditioning would have been extremely welcome.

« Would have had a better night sleeping in our car! »

If you speak to the duty manger you will get half the story of our dissatisfaction. This continued into the whole stay - I have pictures of the dirty, used bedsheets we had, the room was not clean, the toiletries had been half-used and there were cobwebs everywhere. Despite trying to have breakfast the lack of any fruit being left, no sausages and bacon (even ten minutes after advising staff!) I gave up and went hungry... the room was sweltering hot, the clock opposite chimed every 30m until midnight and was accompanied by screaming / smoking teenagers out the front of our room until very late. Then, being awoken by the roadworks early made for, without any exception, THE WORST hotel stay I have ever had. I am seriously considering how ACCOR / MERCURE group can put their name to such a complete disastrous (Fawlty Towers) debacle of a hotel... we are fuming!

It was a bit of a disaster. The television needed re-tuning on my arrival. There was a wedding underway and the communal areas were untidy which was unfortunate for those who were not wedding guests. The staff tried their best but beneath the surface I could see they were stressed. The dining experience that evening was exceedingly slow and the room we were in felt as if we were pushed into a corner. The wedding was over and we could have been moved back to the dining room and the Elvis music turned off. If I ha been told of the re arrangements I would have chosen to eat out. Sunday breakfast and service was fine

We stayed one night as a stopover on the way back to London to break up the journey. Travelling with two toddlers is always difficult, especially if hotels aren’t particularly child friendly, but here they were happy to heat home made food, provide warm milk for cereal and bedtime bottles, freeze ice packs and were understanding of the needs of two very hot and tired little ones. A special thank you to Revv who was wonderfully obliging at dinner time. The room (20) was spacious, the garden was well kept and the lounge and restaurant areas comfortable and clean. The only thing I didn’t like was the bar (had to go there to ask for more tea bags and milk for the room) as it reminded me of the kind of pub that would have sawdust on the floor! That aside (and it is out of the way of the lounge and restaurant), a very pleasant stay.

The room I had was stunning, large airy and had its own lounge. Everything spotless and the huge bed was very comfortable. The extra toiletries were so nice too. However there is a serious fail in the bathroom - the shower curtain (which cannot be adjusted) is 6 inches too short to reach the end of the bath where the shower head is and despite being careful the bathroom floor was flooded and I had to use two towels to mop it dry. Cant believe this is the first time its been mentioned as its a lovely room and in the main old building which is lovely.

Lovely building. Requested quiet room. Doors free to bang shut. Comfortable bed.plenty storage space for clothes.Plenty hot water but bath sheets would have been preferable to small bath towels. Windows in desperate need of repair. Television not working. 3 requests before fixed. Went for breakfast 8 am. Bowl of fresh fruit salad almost empty and not replenished. Fried eggs and sausages good. Baked beans and tomatoes were mush. All in all somewhat disappointing.

Room, food and reception staff were good but I found the restaurant staff in the evening were lacking in service, which I expect was from lack of training. The white wine was placed on the table so we had to ask for an ice bucket to keep it cool.One of our party ordered soup of the day and when he asked for a spoon to eat it with the waiter pointed to the desert spoon !! Plus when we booked out we were charged for the evening meal even though it was part of the package and had been paid for in advance. The charge was removed but the staff should have been aware of this and not added it to the bill.

The front of the hotel is beautiful, the back is awful. We stayed for our wedding anniversary and the room was very dated and not a nice place to stay. The dinner and breakfast was lovely though and our waiter was a very nice man.

Staff are always very pleasant, polite, happy and obliging. Room is always clean and comfortable. Ideally situated and good secure car park with good spacing even if the entrance is slightly narrow but our VW T5 van goes through
