« Very good (in parts!!) »

There were many good points about our stay. Particularly the pleasant room with an unexpected view of the garden, the bathroom was small but well appointed. The reception area, the separate drawing room, and bar area were all very well presented with a modern and luxurious decor. We had previously booked a table for four in the dinning room. We met our two guests in the reception area and went through to the bar for pre dinner drinks there was nobody available to serve us drinks so I went back to reception but there was nobody there either. I waited for a while but nobody arrived, I then went through to the dinning room, and a helpful and appologetic waitress followed me to the Bar where more people were now waiting to be served. We asked for a Bloody Mary for one of us and enquired about the gins that were available. She was obviously not familiar with the Bar, but did her upmost to serve us and keep us all happy. Later we four went through to a freezing cold dinning room (all other rooms were pleasantly heated.) After taking our orders we asked our waitress (now returned from the bar) to move us to another table away from the windows which she did without any fuss, but still we were all cold. Dinner was fine pretty much as expected, but we were still cold throughout. The wine. after two tasters was good and that cheered us all up a bit. Breakfast next morning was served on cold plates! On checking out the receptionist (Portuges I seem to remember) asked us if we had enjoyed our stay, he was interested in my comments and urged me to complete this questionare on returning home

« Very Relaxing »

This was a last minute idea to have a night away and sample somewhere new. Checking in and out was quick and efficient and although we had to pay for the room upgrade, we felt that it was worth it. Breakfast next morning was a treat too.

« Great stay at a Great rate »

We stayed as part of family get together in Banbury, had tea on arrival and a very nice breakfast. Very happy with all aspects of our stay, from being offered a great Autumn room rate, cleanliness of the rooms and all the staff we encountered

« Family trip »

Really nice welcome. Accommodation, although well presented, was a little dated and worn for the amount paid, however, staff are friendly and accommodating, guests were considerate - no noise, even though there was a wedding being hosted that evening, and a comfy, clean and quiet room. Food delivered to the room was of a good standard. Food prices were slightly high but not enough to make the meal feel overpriced. Again, staff service was very good and breakfast was also a plus- staff here also very accommodating. All-in-all, a nice stay for an overnight break but not comfortable enough (amenities-wise) for longer than that- unless plans for leisure are planned externally and the hotel is used as a base only. My total rating reflects the fact that (although dated) quiet and comfortable rooms, and good staff always rate highly in my book!

« Rather down at heel hotel »

Room had cobwebs in as dining area. Hotel generally feels old and tired. Some staff were very unfriendly and when I raised the above was given short shrift.

Staf very friendly & hard working I am 79 so lack of a lift was a problem The food was good -though the lamb on Sunday night was a bit flat I was prepared to spend some money on a decent bottle of red wine-choice was poor and limited New Zealand White-Sauvignon was rather nice sad that no red comparable.

« Great in the old hotel, shabby in the new wing »

Your staff are friendly and professional and the old part of the hotel is nice and the breakfast was very good. Gardens are nice as is parking and the room was clean. Also it was good you allowed my dog to stay with me...but this is where my problem is. You charge £100 or so for a night which is fine for the upscale old bit of the hotel. The back wing should be a £50 a night experience but because I have the dog I get put there. On top of that I pay another £15 for the dog. So I'm paying full price plus £15 for a pretty shabby part of the hotel - clean room but all very worn. I'm in two minds as to whether I'd stay again - I probably wouldnt as its just not value for money.

« Remarkable building, great staff »

We found ourselves assigned room 52, a really unusual spot in the oldest part of the building. The one down side — no lift and fairly narrow, steep stairs up two floors. The room itself was great, with a good bed, a fireplace, excellent bathroom . . . And a separate sitting room with secret passage to the home of the resident ghost! A young black woman at the desk was very forthcoming and helpful, eager to share the history of the building and tips about the surroundings. The location is very good for wandering about Banbury’s market district. We can recommend the Banbury cakes we found at Chandler’s cafe. The challenge that Accor will face regarding this property is how to modernize and upgrade this building while maintaining its historical importance and character.

« Cold room »

Surroundings and staff was very agreeable. However my room (#69) was very cold. I am just glad that I gdidn't visit during winter. I appreciate the challenges an old building has wrt insulation and windows, but had it been any colder it would have disrupted my stay.

« I booked for 9 people and was disappointed »

There were several aspects of my stay at the hotel which I found very disappointing. It was a shame because it was the occasion of a re-union with my oldest friends who live in various parts of the UK.

« ok »

i was kept awake with the slamming of the door in the hall way, everytime i drifted the door would slam. i hardly slept a wink

Fiona Business - 21/09/2018 AccorHotels certified review

Can't fault the check in/out experience, reception staff are lovely and helpful. Breakfast is also very good. The only downside for me this visit was being placed in a room with a (locked) adjoining door - the couple in the next room were obviously very deaf, judging by the sound level of their television and shouted conversations at 6am. Not ideal when you are trying to sleep.

« Historic building, tired interior »

Overall experience is disappointing. The hotel could be so much more appealing. Their seem to have been some improvements to the reception area with new seating. Bar area is sad and unwelcoming. Breakfast was the highlight with cheerful staff and good food. Rooms are very varied in style - between and old and new wing. Generally clean although hallway carpets need a deep clean
