As ussually was good, except the room localization -to fare from reception

« Could do with improvement »

First night, room was uncomfortably hot. Noise at night from doors corridor closing- require a soft-closure mechanism. Room required refurbishment and dusty with discoloured or dirty shower curtain and bath taps, and apparently dirty or discoloured floor. Room on high floor, v hard to access with heavy suitcase as had to wander a long way to find a lift, including on dangerously slippery outdoor stones. Staff v friendly and helpful. Food was good apart from lumpy dry scrambled egg for breakfast. Positives: desk and wifi in room were good, bed comfortable, lounge areas were nice.

« Pleasant staff, large clean rooms. »

Pleased staff do reply to e-mails; not all hotels do this! I stayed last year around the same time and wrote this year to ask for a room on the ground floor, which was quickly dealt with by Lisa. I felt I was coming back to somewhere I liked. Was not impressed by your Afternoon Tea. Scones hard, cream very hard, only one teabag given separately, not in pot. Tea should be in pot with freshly boiled water. More hot water can be seperate. I asked for more tea but by the time they were put in the pot they were not as hot as should have been. Waitress could not pronounce 'Darjeeling' at several attempts. Breakfast was okay, but this put me off trying the restaurant and I went out to eat.

« Very warm friendly hotel »

Lovely old world hotel. Very central. Breakfast plentiful and good choice. Staff very accomodating, we arrived early but were allowed into our room. Would definitely stay again.

« Great Weekend Stay »

Nice traditional Hotel. Staff were excellent, particularly Reception and Restaurant. Good location, very quiet if staying in the Annexe at the back as we were. Lots of pubs and restaurants in close proximity to the Hotel.

« An excellent short stay; I recommend you visit! »

The staff were so helpful and friendly; nothing was too much trouble. Food at dinner and breakfast was of a high quality. The Hotel is situated very well for visits to Banbury and its surrounding area. The hotel building itself is very old and has loads of character.

Hotel was very warm would have liked to have seen a log fire in the reception hall. Disappointed in our evening meal ,breakfast was very good plenty of choice and nice and hot although the hot plate was not I pointed this out and they did check and got it working to which I was thanked for pointing it out.Over all very .

« Though the staff, in general, were very good it was all wasted by two very bad experiences »

Firstly, I had an infestation of insects from start to end of my stay. I was still killing them on the morning I left. At check out I mentioned the infestation and was given an explanation that in all probability they had come into the room via the garden. If this was the probable cause then I would have hoped the housekeeper would be daily inspecting ground floor rooms which faced onto the garden and taking care of the problem. Second and worse experience, a dog in the dining area at breakfast time. I noticed adjacent to the dining area there was also a room inhabited by dogs and their owners. No dogs should be allowed whatsoever inside the hotel, kennels should be provided if dogs are to be allowed on the premises. Most disappointing this stay after so many enjoyable times in the past. .

« Comfortable, friendly and relaxing. »

Warm welcome on arrival. Evening meal and breakfast both very good. Hotel does look a little tired but the bedroom was large and comfortable. All staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

The rooms are OK, a bit dated, but more than adequate for what we needed. And the room was tidy and clean. We did only have one bath towel for the 2 of us, and found the receptionists a bit rude when we asked for more the next morning. That being said, the housekeeping staff did supply more towels for us and made the bed etc. While we were out.

« A comfortable and convenient place to stay. »

The room and breakfast were all fine and the staff were friendly and helpful. However, on our return home, my partner realised he had left behind his Issy Myake aftershave. He made several calls to see if it could be found but no-one phoned back to let him know.

Enjoyable stay, comfortable bed. Pleasant accommodating staff. The bar prices were to expensive for us, but they usually are. I would go back.

« Nice hotel »

We enjoyed our break in Banbury. The only thing I would say is that the hotel would benefit from modernisation! Food was lovely at dinner and breakfast! Ideal for exploring the town!

« Nice stay »

Enjoyed the room, it had a double bed as requested. Felt that breakfast was very busy at the time I visited, some guests had clearly reserved a table but that possibility was not offered to me at check in. On Boxing Day, I was shown to a table but it was not fully cleared from the previous breakfast guests, and was not fully cleared while I ate my breakfast i.e.. I had to look at others dirty cups etc...

« We were given a very nice room for our short stay. »

When we arrived we were shown a room where the bedroom and bathroom were on different levels. As we didn't want to go down some stairs in the middle of the night we asked for another room. They said that was no problem and were given a much better room. The breakfast was fine. Plenty of room in the car park. Not much atmosphere in the bar but there was a welcoming log fire.
