Absolutely shocking experience

Chris F Business - 14/07/2019 TripAdvisor review

Booked my room 2 weeks prior to the stay. Only to be told 1 hour before arriving, they had double booked my room and had cancelled my room. They did re book me a room but 20 miles away, in Bicester. .

What a gem of a find!

Beautiful hotel, excellently preserved with a modern twist. The staff could not do enough for us and the reception staff especially were so knowledgeable about both the building and the area and showed their passion for the building. As my friend and I were both interested in the building and its story, the staff were the perfect people to answer all our questions, show us around & fill us in on all its foibles! They fulfilled this task with such enthusiasm and friendliness it really enhanced our stay. Would just like to say that it would be lovely to see the glass panel in the reception, over the cellar to be reopened - would make such a wonderful quirky addition to an otherwise beautiful building. The room was very comfortable and quiet and the buffet breakfast was delicious and served with by very friendly and courteous staff. Will definitely be back next year (for the Cornbury Festival) and hopefully bring many other family members with us!

Disappointing. A hot weekend with no air conditioning in the room. No lift to get to second floor. Everywhere creaked. Very poor value for money.

Nice room, but extremely dated. I kind of expected that, but things were a bit stained and the room smelt really musky. It’s a stark contrast from the nice modern bar area which is a real shame. The cleaning standard was really good for the most part but cleaning all the dusty cobwebs on every corner of the ceiling seemed to be regularly missed off the cleaning schedule which really degraded the room. Along with the mouldy windows. Breakfast was poor. Stained table cloth, no glasses for drinks and food was very basic and we actually didn’t eat it in the end. Also very disappointed with the non-existent advertised 24 hour room service. Arrived at around 10pm after a wedding and were told there was no food. Could of been so much better but in desperate need of refurbishment and the lift did not feel safe at all.

If you don't like corporate chains, and don't mind not having air conditioning then you will like this hotel. Friendly staff and cheap if you time it right. Recommended

Stay in Banbury

Peter G. Business - 07/07/2019 AccorHotels certified review

At first sight the hotel is a little tired. The common areas need a spruce up. The room I stayed in was nice though a suite and I had my dog so it was a good size. Food was very nice albeit a bit expensive. Outside seating areas also need a bit of attention especially at the rear of the hotel.

Lovely hotel but slow bar service

Had a reunion with friends. Hotel was lovely, but very hot. Heating was on in some rooms and it was the hottest day of the year. Had meal in separate room which was very good and our server was very helpful bringing fans to help to cool down. The hotel bar service was not good before or after our meal

Comfortable stay

Very comfortable stay with a warm and friendly welcome by the receptionist. Breakfast was good but would have liked non-dairy alternatives (margarine, soya/nut milk) and some healthier, freshly baked bread. We really appreciated being upgraded to the Cherwell Suite but the rooms definitely need an upgrade, particularly the bathroom. Luckily we were travelling with our feather pillows as I find foam very uncomfortable. We would /will stay again.

C A. L. Couples - 01/07/2019 AccorHotels certified review

We arrived on Friday evening to a warm and pleasant welcome from the receptionist on duty. Having booked in on line she handed us the room key and told us how to find the room, but didn't tell us where breakfast was served or asked if we wanted a table for dinner. She provided us with a map of Banbury with instructions on how to find the venue for the event we were in Banbury for. The room was very nice with good beds and everything you would expect in a good standard hotel. Breakfast on Saturday morning was a total let down. The staff were very friendly and helpful but, there was no marmalade to be had and the waiter who went to find some was most apologetic that there was none. The scrambled egg was almost white and was tasteless, the tomatoes, although giving the appearance of having been grilled tasted as though they were tinned tomatoes that had been boiled and the Weetabix tasted like cardboard. The hotel is in a very good position for exploring the town.

Crisp cotton sheets and great breakfast!

A great hotel for a weekend break, I've spent quite a few weekends at Whately Hall. Perfectly sited for the town. The staff have always been very accomodating and the rooms I've had superb. Will definitely be back.
