I was disappointed with the service at breakfast. I paid £15/person, which is a premium. I ordered what was on the menu and waited 20mins before I inquired where it was, I was told it was ticketed! I waited another 10 mins and politely asked again, by this point everyone else around the table had finished. After another 10mins (40mins in total) I cancelled the order and had the buffet. It then turned up after Whilst i was eating! My mum, who was staying there as a birthday treat, asked for another coffee at breakfast and was told ‘okay... later’ this arrived much later! I was dissatisfied with this level of service so I complained on checking out, the receptionist said she would take it to management but she didn’t fill out any formal complaint form or even write it down. As a customer paying a premium rate for room and breakfast I expected a service that I was satisfied with.

Dear Mr G., Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Shakespeare Hotel last weekend. I am very sorry that your experience was not good enough - especially at breakfast, where you experienced long delays with the food. I understand that the breakfast chef 's performance that morning was not up to scratch and caused the staff (and of course our guests) a lot of stress - please be assured I have taken this matter up personally with him and we have a new chef starting next month. I shall be refunding the cost of the two breakfasts against your credit card in the next few days, as a gesture of sincere apology. I hope that you can accept that this incident, albeit of a serious nature, was a "one-off" and we are determined not to let this happen again. « Another brilliant time at the Shakespeare Hotel »

Absolutely love the hotel. The original features, such as the uneven floors, quirky walls and open fires, coupled with the superb staff, amazing breakfast and central location, add up to a package that’s very hard to beat. There isn’t enough parking at times but this was managed in a friendly, courteous and totally professional manner by the manager, restoring calm to a fraught situation. We’ll be back!

« Historical building, full of charme, yet with state-of-art comfort »

We spent one night at the Mercure Shakespear Hotel for Saint-Valentin, as we also booked a Theater Show at the Royal Shakespeare Theater. The hotel is perfectly located both to visit the city and literally 5 min walking distance from the RSC theaters (both Shakespeare and Swan Theaters). Warm welcome, and we were lucky to be upgraded to a 'Privilege' Room. The room was very comfortable, with plenty of amenities. The breakfast was full of choices (do not hesitate to ask if you do not find your wish in the buffet). We will surely come back here if we get back to Stratfort-upon-Avon.

We enjoyed our one night stay with one exception: the room we were given smelled unpleasant, as if someone had been ill. Having said that, the staff were very accomodating, and moved us to another room in the annex. The staff throughtout were friendly and helpful, and the downstairs rooms (bar, lobby, restaurant etc are very pleasant. I was surprised to hear I couldn't add this visit to my AccorHotels account, due to it being made via Booking.com, but will bear this in mind in future.

Yes, we cannot add points to your card if you book through a 3rd party, so suggest you use the mercure.com website in future just to be sure - and you will usually get a discount as well off the rate! « Room and bathroom decor a little tired. Bed comfortable. Staff on Reception very noisy - talking about non work related topics. Marco Pierre White food overpriced, and disappointing main course of mushroom lasagne. »

Very good car parking on site. The Hotel was very well situated within the town, and especially for the Theatre. Lots of comfortable lounge seating with roaring fires. Breakfast worked well. Downstairs cloakroom - liked the Elemis handwash - touch of luxury. Would have liked more newspapers available for guests on daily basis. Although we had rung and booked meal for Valentine's night at Marco Pierre White Restaurant, when we arrived for the meal they had no record of this. Fortunately they were able to provide a table for 2.

Good to have hotel parking, but difficult to find. The amenities were attractive; bar and public rooms. Very good breakfast and comfortable beds. The central location was excellent close to shops, cafes and restaurants. A very enjoyable stay.

Fiund the facilities to be OK, albeit there is a need for redecroating/refurbishment. Room was comfortable, again a little drab. Public rooms were very good: like the roaring fires. Breakfast was good. The staff were all helpful and pleasant.

« Marvellous experience to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary »

Reception team were very friendly and attentive. We had a lovely suite (room 101) and the evening meal was excellent. Restaurant service team were excellent with very prompt service. The only time we noticed we were waiting was for the sweet course...only to discover,, on service, our plates had been expertly decorated with a "Happy Anniversary" motif.

« Very nice stay »

Very relaxing, great welcome (thank you Ela) and overall very happy. The bed was actually a little too large for the room so we had to make space for each other to get by. The other problem was that our room was by the outside space some of the staff used for their break so we could often hear them talking, smoking, on the phone. Which was fine during the day but a little annoying after 11pm at the weekend.

Delighted with our room which was spacious, comfortable, quiet and clean. Loved the lounge areas with the log fires, very welcome during this cold snap. Polite and helpful staff made the experience even better. Had a lovely break and plan to return soon.

Receptionist very helpful. Found us better room when heating not working in original room. Room good size and nice. Some things could be improved. Towels on small size. Dressing gowns looking a bit tired. Had to ask for more water and fresh glasses not provided on second day.
