« We enjoyed our stay everything was lovely we have made another booking . »

The staff were lovely kind and helpful the front desk staff were lovely because we arrived late and they opened the car park for us. The staff in the restaurant the Marco Piere White were lovely and we had an extremely reasonable and enjoyable lunch. Even the car park attendant was extremely friendly and waved us bye bye so ten out of ten to all your staff, to have such good staff makes a great difference. We always stay with you when we come to Stratford and will continue to do so. Many thanks.

The hotel' s social is comfortable and serves very good lunches. The service here is particularly good. Reception is general efficient and friendly. The room we had was rather small and I had some difficulty with the wheelchair my wife needs these days. Still everything we needed was in the room. We had room service on our second day and this was good- prompt and the food was good.

The hotel and room itself was lovely. We had not stayed here before, the reception staff in the afternoon was happy to check us in, advised that room was all paid for (it was bought as a present) but did not share that breakfast was included or where we were to go for breakfast in the morning. The following morning we were woken at 6.45 am by housekeeping staff cleaning the reception area and the stairs leading to our room, where they preceded to have a conversation on the stairs. We spoke to reception when we checked out regarding this and they apologised and said they would speak to housekeeping. However we were only staying one night so our experience of your hotel was not as we wished. We visit Stratford Upon Avon regularly and often stay over night. Our experience would not encourage us to return, as I’m sure you’ll appreciate if we are staying for leisure purposes we may not have gone to bed by 10pm.

« Very relaxing break, just what I needed »

I have stayed at this hotel many times, and the staff are always polite, helpful and friendly. This time I'd like to mention one of the team who didn't quite reach these high standards. I think her name was Amelie? She was serving at the bar one evening, and I asked for Scotch whiskey (Johnnie Walker Black label). She clearly didn't know the difference between Scotch and bourbon, and tried to give me first Jack Daniels and then Jim Beam. It may be that she needs more training, but when I went back the following evening and asked again for Johnnie Walker, we went through the same charade, although this time with a lot of sighing and slamming down of glasses!

I would have appreciated some instructions on working bath/shower taps! It took me some time to work out how to change the setting from shower to bath and I got a bit wet in the process.

This was an expensive stay and as such we expected a classier experience. The atmosphere was dowdy, reception areas dark and the parts of the hotel we used had a tired look. Awkwardly steep steps and door locks often unresponsive. The room was clean and pleasantly large but fitted in old styles. Redecoration must be imminent? Would expect air con and walk-in shower. There was no welcome to the room, eg flowers. Complimentary water was appreciated but there were only 2 small glasses in the bathroom and the mini-bar wasn't stocked. We had two tiny and crumbled biscuits. Street noise on Saturday night perhaps to be expected but street-cleaning machine 6am Sunday not so. Breakfast was good standard but underwhelming and typical of this hotel. I was disappointed to see that the bar had no draught beers at all. The location is excellent and must praise the efforts to help park our car. Service generally was very good and helpful.

« Mercure As A Company Seem To Be Cutting Corners »

This is an old building which makes for a characterful hotel. It is well located in the centre of Stratford upon Avon. The staff are very helpful and listen to their guests. Not sure the housekeeping change the bedding after guests leave as our first allocated room had an odour of urine on one side of the bed. We moved and the second allocated room was sweet and clean. Gabor on reception was very helpful. We didn’t eat in the restaurant as the loud music on approach was not to our taste. The bar meal we had was excellent as was the service. Overall we have come to the conclusion that Mercure are cutting corners, no suitcase stands in Privelege rooms for guests instance, where do head office managers expect us to put suitcases in these small rooms? As usual, there is only one easy chair in a room sold as a double. The ‘Privelege’ premium is not worth it. The rooms here are no larger than classics and the ‘extras’ are dressing gowns and slippers and a coffee machine. Where the advertised ‘ much, much more ‘ is I fail to understand. The fridge in the room I guess which should be standard at these prices anyway. Guests here are paying for the location which is great. The breakfast is also very good. The staff all seem to be trying hard to please the guests..

WE ALWAYS LOOK FORWARD TO OUR STAY AT THE SHAKESPEARE HOTEL WETHER FOR 1 NIGHT OR A LONG BREAK, WE STAY THERE MANY TIMES EACH YEAR - ON OUR LAST VISIT THERE WERE A COUPLE OF ISSUES, OUR DOUBLE ROOM WAS MADE UP AS A TWIN, BECAUSE WE DIDNT GO TO THE ROOM TILL LATER ON IN THE EVENING WE DIDNT THINK IT WORTH INFORMING RECEPTION TO GET THIS CHANGED AS ALL HOUSEKEEPING WOULD HAVE LEFT, THE TOILET BASE IN ROOM 133 IS NOT FITTED TO FLOOR GIVING CAUSE FOR CONCERN. ALSO THE CUPS IN THE ROOM WERE STAINED AND FELT LIKE THEY HADNT BEEN CLEANED PROPERLY

Room 230 nice spacious room, but very noisy due to being above the hotel bins. We were woken on both morning of our stay but staff putting rubbish bottles etc in the bins just before 6am on Saturday morning and around 6:30am on the Sunday. Tea and coffee supplies were not replenished on either day or water on the Saturday, and although having rung reception who said they’d be sent upwe ended up having go down and collect them ourselves after over an hours wait. bathroom flannels were missing on the first day. Having paid extra for a privilege room, the attention to detail was at best poor

Location incomparable of course. Breakfasts fine. Room pretty basic: two shallow drawers in the dressing table, one deep shelf, and a hanging rail - so minimal storage. No suitcase rack, but after emptying the case could go on top of the wardrobe. Comfortable bed, better than average bedside lighting. Bathroom on arrival had no toiletries, but that's of no great consequence.

Friendly staff especially the lovely man who helped us park our car and the barman. The rooms were very small and I wouldn’t want to stay in this type of standard room for more than one night but the bed was very comfortable. The Marco Pierre White Resturant was staffed by an excellent team, the food was nice but nothing special. And the decor was not to my taste at all due to the amount of times Mr M P Whites face was plastered all over the place, tasteless in my opinion and atmosphere was bland. The hotels location was right in the heart of Stratford, clean and comfortable with lovely attentive staff.

The hotel is perfect for a Shakespeare focussed weekend - well situated, Shakespearean room names and very helpful reception staff. The Marco Pierre White restaurant was a real disappointment. The food was dry and unappealing and the staff efficient but disinterested. We ate elsewhere after that and had much better food and service in local restaurants.

We only stayed one night but the room was very good and the staff were very helpful. The breakfast was tasty and good quality. There was parking at an additional £10.00 which was a reasonable charge. There was local free parking if one wanted to use it.

We have been visiting the Shakespeare for many years. Sadly the standard is declining little by little. Worn furnishings and teacup stains on furniture, stained carpets don’t make for an entirely contented stay. We view all that as quirky due to our long history of using this hotel. However as a first time guest I wouldn’t be too happy. Sorry!
