My partner and I stayed for a weekend and enjoyed every aspect of the hotel. The staff were all friendly and extremely helpful. The breakfast was just sublime and the bar a great place to unwind

Booked a night away for myself and my wife for a Valentine's treat. Great location, comfy and quiet rooms, well equipped gym and lots of spa facilities included. Sauna, steam room, dry room, aroma room, ice room and hot tub. Breakfast was lovely and fresh with plenty of choice - included in our package.

You need to close the bar after midnight. Loud mouthed inebriates don’t do much for your image. You need to install a lift. The building, however architecturally appealing, wasn’t built for the purpose to which it is now put. The place has an air of slightly damp, slightly musty, decaying gentility, enlivened occasionally by the sight of underdressed and over-tattooed female flesh. The food however was good and the service wasn’t too bad. Would I stay there again? If I had to go to Shrewsbury again I probably would, but only because there are so few alternatives

Hotel was very nice, staff, breakfast lovely. I did feel that the extra cost for the "privilege " room was overrated and while we would return and stay in a Mercure hotel again I would not pay the extra. The Spa was nice however, one of the steam rooms and sauna's were not working, my reason for booking this hotel was the Spa in case the weather was unkind, as it happened we had lovely weather, therefore only used the Spa once. Checking out was not a good experience, especially as somebody was making compliments and I was waiting, as we had to leave I had to phone up to check out, there was no apology for the delay when I called which would have been polite even if not sincere.

Our room was great although ground floor as requested before arrival would have been better with a pram etc to carry up stairs. Most staff were lovely but some needed to work on their customer service. Not clear what was or wasn’t complimentary in the room - had to ask reception. Pool was on the cold side so couldn’t go in for long with the baby. Set menu was average and breakfast service was patchy.

« It was a disappointing stay! »

My daughter and I came for a getaway for a night. I was very disappointed with the room as it was absolutely freezing during the night and when showering in the bathroom. The towels were as thin as a tea towel and there was no toilet brush which is an necessity in my view. I thought that £16 pound for a Caesar salad was extortionate so we ate else where and the mother and daughter treatment package of £110 for both of us was a lot of money on top of the price of the room. On a positive note the staff were very friendly and we both enjoyed a lovely breakfast.

Lovely room, I had paid the extra for a privilege room which was lovely and spacious. The Spa was lovely and the evening meal was good - I believe that there are things that could be done to make the experience a little better i.e. flowers or candles in the centre of the tables. A basket of bread could be served complimentary. The meal was good but we were left hungry after the two course.

Hotel Lovely, very good customer service ,staff were very friendly, food good too. Unfortunately I would not recommend to stay in room 11, was cold & very noisey could here background music from the bar/restaurant/reception all day in the room up untill approx midnight then started again approx 7am so very had very little sleep , also delivery van at 7am & 7.30am this was supposed to be a relaxing nights break but not much relaxing had. The room over looked the bin/ delivery area.

The room was so hot myself and my wife could not sleep. We turned the thermostat down, turned the radiator down and opened the window the half inch it could open but still couldn't sleep as the room was so hot. To make matters worse the bed was very hard and uncomfortable. The breakfast was however brilliant as well we're the staff.

We booked three nights for a break. The room was clean, nicely furnished and comfortable. We ate in the hotel for two nights, which was delicious, and the wine, though expensive, was amazing. We used the spa facilities, which again were clean and relaxing. The staff could never do enough for us, always pleasant and helpful. The only down side was work was being carried out on the rooms below ours and we were woken at 8am on Sunday and 7am on Monday, which was a little distressing as one of the reasons we were taking the break was not to be disturbed. Would still highly recommend this hotel in a beautiful setting come rain or shine.

This is a lovely building in a great location and it's obvious that work continues to be done to upgrade the rooms and facilities. But what makes it really special is the staff. Everyone that we had dealings with: spa staff, bar staff, restaurant staff, reception and house keeping were all fantastic. They were all helpful, friendly and engaged, we felt like we were VIPs rather than just being on a cheap spa deal! Dinner was really good, breakfast could have been better (cooked breakfast kept warm for a buffet is never that nice), but that really is the only criticism and it's a minor one
