Did not stay with your hotel. Unfortunately we had a death in the family and had to return immediately. Whilst the hotel offered us alternative dates, it is not easy to return from such a long distance (Australia). Whilst I understand you could not refund the payment, I was disappointed because all the other hotels (including accor hotels) refunded in full on compasionate grounds.

I had booked a superior double room. The room allocated was at the back of beyond with one tiny window looking out at nothing - more like a prison cell than a superior double room!

On arrival we were informed there was no reservation and we were not expected. We had been travelling for nearly four hours, so after about 15 minutes, with a queue behind us, we suggested going to the bar for a drink while things were sorted. About an hour later we were informed Bookings.com had failed to notify the hotel of our reservation, they had managed to find us rooms, but they were not together in the hotel, one was in the Old School House. On the first night I asked for a cocktail, but the alcohol there was no alcohol available for the particular one I wanted - this was remained the same for the three nights we stayed. On the second night, I asked for a Prosecco. My friend noticed the waiter had used three different bottles and questioned it. He said it didn't matter because they were the same quality. I said that may be the case, but I did not want to be tasting three different wines in one glass. He informed me that they were left over from a wedding and had to be used up! I refused to pay for it and asked for another from one bottle only. We asked at the desk for information on the Spa, but we were told to ask when we got there and were waved off in the direction of where it was located. Breakfast was great, plenty of it, well cooked and hot. However, even having breakfast was not a pleasant experience as the woman standing at the door checking people in, appeared to talk and make comments about the guests after they had walked past. Our friends room was stiflingly hot so, she asked for the wire to be removed on the window so she could open it properly. This didn't happen, so she asked again and they said they would send someone up. Again, this didn't happen, so she asked at reception for it to be done. After a while the receptionist said it had been looked into, but the window was not to be opened further due to Health and Safety and that she should use the fan in her room - she explained she did use the fan, but all it did was push hot air around the room! Breakfast and two of the waiters were the only good thing about the hotel and sadly we won't be returning.

Comfortable stay with friendly staff. Very good evening meal with service to match. Hot drinks after the meal were disappointing (hot choc from a machine with no froth and unable to provide requested decaff latte), both were priced at £3-50; we mentioned disappointment when we checked out but no action taken. Would have expected slightly more variety at breakfast for standard of hotel (e.g.fruit, black pud) and some local produce - e.g. yoghurts. Spa and leisure club staff were very good. Our room was clean and comfortable. We have been members at the Chester Mercure Leisure club for 5 years and were disappointed our stay could not be discounted on this basis.

« Lovely stay but a few niggles »

Room amazing (Thomas Ireland) however no remote for tv and not enough coat hanger's. Mentioned to reception no rectification of issues. Food excellent -one gluten free vegan- no problems until Sunday night, when so much confusion only ate meal due to sheer hunger, then spent most of night awake worrying about what may have eaten (diet is medical not personal requirement) Our stay was to celebrate two birthdays and wedding anniversary, Sunday was my birthday and our anniversary, it totally marred the celebration. While I can't complain about the staff or service, I feel communication between reception, catering and housekeeping was extremely poor and frustrating

Our stay was brilliant the only thing what went wrong was I had to eat when my family had finished there meals because I asked for my steak to be well done and it came out rare this issue was quickly addressed by the manger of the bar he was very apologetic other then that we had a great time at my cousins wedding with you guys.

Had a beautiful prestige room which was spotlessly clean. The food, spa and grounds were fantastic and the staff were exceptional, they couldn’t do enough to please you and went out of their way to accommodate any requirements. Special call outs to Becky, Dominika and Chloe for making us feel so welcome.

« Lovely relaxing evening, with only a few minor problems. »

Room was spotless. Bed very comfortable. The food in the restaurant was absolutely beautiful with very friendly staff. A few problem areas were. The water pressure in thw shower was very poor. The cups in the cupbord for our coffee have reidue of shower gel in it. And the glasses had a very funny smell and taste to them. And when we booked it said sky tv in the rooms and we had very poor free view that was unwatchable.

On arrival being allocated a room number 46 which was DOWN 2 flights and opening the curtains to discover at least 10 old disused mattresses outside our bedroom window we were not very impressed. Complained to the reception who immediately found us another available room 81 in the stables which was satisfactory. I can't imagine what the hotel management were thinking to leave those dirty mattresses outside a guest window, not to our standard at all!

Stayed for my partners birthday, asked and sent card details for balloons in the room which never happens! Was suppose to check in at 2 couldn’t check in till 4 which was annoying as we had treatments booked at 4,30! Treatment was rushed as we was last people in, didn’t think there was enough seating in the pool area, other than that the food was faultless and hotel it’s self was nice.

Booked this hotel as a special treat for my wife’s birthday. Booked two rooms, one for us and one for our daughter. Made a telephone request that the rooms be together. When we checked in the rooms were not together and and our daughters room was well away from ours and had to go through three sets of fire doors and up stairs to get there. The rooms were poorly maintained, the carpets, furniture and walls were grubby and had not been cleaned for a long time. The pillow cases in both rooms were inside out and when we removed them they were dirty on the correct side. The carpets in the hallways were grubby and had gaffer tape covering holes in them. Went to reception and asked to see a manager in a private area to discuss the situation and was taken into the drawing room. She was very pleasant but said she was unable to assist in changing rooms and had only two single rooms anyway. I offered to pay an upgrade for two double rooms but she still was not willing to assist. I went back to my family who were very upset by this time. We regularly visit Shrewsbury so checked for other hotels in the area and made a reservation in Telford some 20 miles away as all local hotels were full. We checked out requesting a full refund and stayed in a far nicer hotel with a golf course. The staff there were very friendly and helpful and the hotel was well looked after, clean and well worth the extra 20 mile drive for the three days we were there. Definitely not a hotel to stay at until it has had a full refurbishment

The hotel public areas of the hotel were lovely but the rooms were dated, had no air conditioning and the window in our room was broken so unable to shut which made my partner feel uneasy. All staff were exceptionally friendly and polite apart from the general manager who was rude and looked down at me and my partner which we believe may be due to the fact that we are young and my partner is pregnant. This is not acceptable in our current day especially not when we pay for a relaxing time away as pregnancy can be very stressful.

Our stay started on a disappointing note. Despite having booked a 4 day stay two months in advance, we were placed in the room closest to the busy main road (5 metres away). No opportunity to change the room was offered. It was a noisy 4 nights. In addition, as ACCOR card members, we were not offered our welcome drink. Dinner in the restaurant was not impressive; a sea trout main course arrived with a 50 gram piece of fish; chicken liver and duck liver pates were too salty tasted like any pork liver pate from the supermarket. Fortunately the room was spacious and clean; breakfast was good; service generally was also good.
