« Good spa and Hotel - not for food »

The spa facilities and the room were very good. The staff are excellent and in particular the receptionist who checked us out was fantastic. However, the whole experience was slightly downgraded by the quality of the food - we had lunch, dinner and breakfast and each meal was disappointing. The lunch quality of the sandwiches and the fillings was so poor that we couldnt eat one of them. The dinner choice was good but the vegetarian dish, as in so many places, was bland and dry - with little effort made to make it taste of anything and the vegetables were over cooked. The breakfast was exceptionally poor value - £15 for one mini croissant, 1 half bowl of cereal and juice. The food would put me off staying here again as the idea was a spa weekend and not to have to get in the car and go offsite at every meal.

unfortunately after having to climb 3 floors with luggage (staff didnt offer to help) i found a bathroom that was not very clean. hair in the sink and on the toilet seat

staff and facilities all good. Pillows are so uncomfortable though! I stay quite regularly - as do my colleagues and most people also mention this in the morning. I will endeavour to bring my own for future stays

The stay was pleasant enough but I think attention needs to be brought to some staff in breakfast on Sunday. The waiter that served us and took our order was very abrupt. I appreciate that weekends are busy but why should you be treated differently just because the staff are busy ? We still have payed like any other guest? I have to say the younger staff that served us on the Saturday evening prior were very helpful and polite and apologetic despite been overlooked and kept waiting as the restaurant was very busy.

Lovely grounds & main building so I was disappointed to be given a room in School Masters block. Not much of a view from there. We decided on a light bite in the bar area for our evening meal. I ordered the vegetarian cauliflower pasta crumble but was presented with tender stem broccoli in a cheese sauce. No explanation!! I took a couple of bites to see if there was any pasta in the dish but all I could come up with was broccoli plus a piece of plastic! The staff were understandably very apologetic & offered me a free alternative & a complementary drink for my husband who had finished his fish & chips by this time! Reception staff were also very apologetic when we came to check out but the damage had been done!

« Needs a bit of a make over inside the hotel »

Grounds are beautiful and long drive to the hotel lovely. Our room however needed a bit of smartening up as there were stains on the carpet and the headboard. The bed and pillows were extremely firm so first night was uncomfortable but new feather pillows gave us a better 2nd night. A wedding was taking place during our stay and we felt that not enough staff were on duty and we didn't get the attention we expected. Not many serving behind the bar on Sunday night (bank holiday) and my Pimms was served without any fruit as the barman was on his own and couldn't get more fruit, so an unacceptable way to serve Pimms. Menu on our package was limited and the same on both nights which was why we upgraded and then had a better choice on the 2nd night. Lovely hotel but more attention to detail is needed.

« Lovely venue, some excellent staff, badly let down by poor quality badly untrained colleagues »

Reception staff didn’t offer privelage rooms which we would have taken advantage of. The restaurant staff have created their own little empire, making up the rules as they went along, for example not serving “specially cooked breakfasts” on Saturday because it suited them , not their customers. Had We not been staying there to attend a funeral, I would have complained very strongly indeed!

have stayed in this hotel before and found it great value however this time our experience was spoilt by very slow service for food and drinks. There were a lot of functions on and they overspilled into the bar areas with noisy wedding guests. I was with a family group, trying to have a catch up and felt like we were interlopers at someone else wedding, sat in the public bar. There was only 1 barman most of the time and it took an extremely long time to get a drink. We had bar food on the Saturday afternoon, the squid was the worst I have ever had soggy and overcooked. We had dinner on the restaurant on the Saturday night - service was extremely slow. It took us 2 hours for a starter and main course to be served, we would have liked dessert but eventually gave up on getting our main course plates taken away and left the restaurant. We could see tables around us having similar experiences. All of our food came at different times with some starters arriving after everyone else had finished theirs on the table. Some of our party stayed on the Sunday night and had a similar experience. The dining staff attempted to charge us for breakfast despite it being included in our booking. All in all it was extremely disappointing, this was somewhere I had stayed before and chosen for a special family weekend, the hotel appeared to be overwhelmed by the amount of functions it was catering for and gave us a very bad experience

« Lovely hotel and good value »

We booked a package deal through secret escapes and I was worried as the price was really cheap that the hotel may not be very good. I was pleasantly surprised, the hotel is beautiful, staff we’re friendly and the food was nice. Only downsides were waiting for our food in the evening was really long and we had to chase them a few times, the bedrooms look a little tired and could do with a new lick of paint and new bathrooms but was ok and we were never asked at reception or when we booked why we were staying there, as we went to celebrate our wedding anniversary and I would have loved the opportunity to upgrade our room beforehand but we were never asked and by the time we arrived there were no upgrades available, which was a bit of a shame.

« A little paradise for my daughters sweet 16th »

From the second we pulled up to the moment we left it was perfect! The room was beautiful and very clean and had everything we needed. The bed linen was crisp white and the view from the room was like an enchanted little wonderland. The treatments were amazing and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. The food was seriously delicious and the desserts were presented so well I really didn’t want to spoil it by eating it but of course I did and it’s was delicious! I don’t usually write reviews but this place certainly deserves one. I will be returning but with my hubby next time so he can enjoy the tranquil serenity that this place offers. If you’re looking for a place to escape & need to unwind then this is certainly the place for you. 10/10
