« A disappointing return . »

Having enjoyed a previous visit at this impressive setting, we were disappointed. The first evening took over an hour to get room service; no answer from reception so called an outside line to get a response! Nothing in room to indicate how to order room service, and some items not available. Times Newspaper ordered but it did not come! Tired bedroom carpet.

« Lovely hotel, shame about the spa »

I deliberatley chose this hotel over other (cheaper) hotels in the area as I intended to make full use of the spa facilities. Unfortunately this was a big disappointment due to the majority of spa features being out of use due to faults. The swimming area was full of children which was fine but noisy and the jacuzzi was cold. On the other hand the hotel itself was absolutely lovely. The room was fabulous and immaculately clean, with the Nespresso coffee machine being a nice touch. Staff were welcoming and helpful. Overall I would stay here again but not for the spa facilities there are far better options on offer in Shrewsbury itself.

« Pleasant hotel and location, some gaps in service »

+ Lovely room, nice spa area, nice breakfast. - Hairs found in bathroom. Breakfast service confusing, possibly understaffed? - had to ask for porridge for toddler which took ages to come. Asked for veggie breakfast at servery, was told we needed to order it at the table but nobody had been to our table apart from initially to ask about tea and coffee.

« Complaints if our guests »

Dear Reservation / To whom it may concern With reference to our guest stay during 30th June - 1st July (1 night) with the booking name of Mr. Piroonroj Kraisuraphong. We got the complaints from our guests as below : - They needed to wait for the room so long with about 2 hours, even though they check-in at the hotel in the evening. In fact they should have the room immediately because they got into the hotel in the evening. - You arranged the the terrible room for them. This was the last room of the hotel you arranged for our VIP guests. How can ?? We found that they couldn't take a bath with warm water because the water heater is broken. We heard from our guests that you only said sorry, but there were no any compensation for the terrible night of them in Shrewsbury. Mercure hotel is as Interchain and well-known hotel, we highly hope you could do anything better than this to comfort our guests. Please reconsider what you can do for them so that we can pass your message to our valued guests accordingly. Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Best regards, Peggy

« No hot water and toilet in the room didn't flush properly. »

I felt the experience was ruined by having no hot water for a shower and the toilet in the room didn't flush properly.

« Have always liked staying at Allbrighton but noise issue affected our score this time »

We have stayed at Allbrighton on several occasions and always enjoyed our stay. This time we asked for a quiet room as we needed some relaxation and a quiet weekend. We were offered two rooms which were noisy and right next to the busy road. Again we repeated that we wanted a quiet room. The third room we were offered was in the main part of the house and it was quiet on the first night. However on the second night it was very noisy as we were right above where a wedding disco was taking place. We were both unhappy about this. It was unacceptable to be told that it was a quiet room and then to be above a very loud disco. The receptionist should have known there was a wedding on and a wedding disco the second night when we were given the third room. It was unacceptable to be told that it was a quiet room. I am afraid that this has marred our experience of staying at the hotel and we would like our complaint to be considered and answered please. Many thanks Sue Hodges

« Good overall, The restaurant experience was strange though »

Room was lovely, had everything - Same with all the facilities. Very clean and well kept everywhere. Had a few drinks at the bar, staff were lovely - excellent service. Dined at the restaurant in the evening, Was quiet in there (our large table and 2/3 other small tables) - The FOH manager looked very stressed/checked if we had paid a few times within moments of paying, That was the weird part of the dining exp - Having to pay for everything before receiving it? As we entered we paid for our meals before sitting down, Upon ordering a few bottles of wine the bill came first.

« Potentially lovely hotel but just needs a bit of TLC in places »

Lovely meal, gorgeous location. All staff were very friendly. However, there were small areas which need improving. Grounds hadn't been cleared up from a wedding the day before. There were cans, cigarette buts, paper etc over the lawns near the bar area which took the edge off sitting outside. The spa is also potentially excellent. However, showers, and a number of the saunas weren't working and one of the ones that was, was mouldy. As I say it just needs a little bit more care and this is a 9 or 10 out of 10. As it is, due to the food, location and room which were all excellent I'm giving it 7

« Disappointing »

Multiple events on during a three night stay meant lots of noise and not a relaxing experience. Inexperienced staff meant we did not have great customer service on check in, check out, or ordering room service. The room was extremely hot with no way of changing the temperature. The decor was dated and was below my level of expectation for the price we paid. The breakfast and room serving offering was very poor for a vegetarian. Not a single main course offering on the room service menu. No fresh fruit at breakfast, concentrated juice and generally a poor selection. I came away feeling that events were the main focus of the hotel and hotel guests are an unfortunate inconvenience. We were staying at the hotel as we were visiting family but had I been visiting purely for a spa break I would have been bitterly disappointed.

« Lovely hotel but very busy with large events, some inflexible customer service »

We stayed for 3 nights Sun-Tues in June. The rooms were very nice, spacious and well furnished. The spa was also good and my husband and I had great massages. I also enjoyed my nail file and polish although I would have preferred a higher gloss clear polish (as a paramedic I'm not allowed coloured nails). The staff were very accommodating when I needed to alter appointment times. The bar was disappointing. We had a 31 minute wait on the Sunday to get a drink (?due to 2 events) and then the barman did not know the standard size measure for a Baileys and then my husband was not allowed a Bloody Mary as this is a cocktail and it is company policy not to make cocktails! In fact we were told they were not allowed drinks with more than 2 ingredients. We weren't even allowed to buy a vodka and tomato juice and add the Tabasco and Worcester sauce ourselves although we could do this at breakfast (minus the vodka of course) The food in the restaurant was generally very nice but for people staying 3 nights the set menu was a bit limited although much worse for vegetarians. We would all have preferred to have a set amount of money to spend Al a carte so as to have greater choice. We did ask but were told we would be charged full price despite the price of our stay including a 3 course set menu. A money allowance would also have suited those that only wanted 2 courses better. The desserts on the set menu were all fruity, no chocolate choice. The deconstructed lemon meringue was very disappointing, the lemon element was not eaten and the meringue seemed like a pre-bought one and was hard not gooey like I would expect from a lemon meringue. On our second night the lovely older waitress did agree to serve just a bowl of strawberries to my mum, which was much appreciated. Credit to the reception manager though who listened to some of the issues and passed them to the general manager who deducted some of our sundries bill. On the whole a good stay but marred by inflexibility. I'm not sure I would stay at a Mercure hotel again as I have found other groups better such as Q hotels.

Slightly disappointing. Two functions at the hotel meant the bar was super busy with very few staff serving. We had no hot water! And no newspaper (should be standard with a 'privilege' room).
