« Not as good as usual  »

Very surprised to find a turd in the toilet on arrival! Loo paper had been folded as normal to show en suite had been cleaned and it appeared to have been done. Overall ambience wasn't as good as previously. Service poorer than before. New waiting staff at our formal meal were obviously new but even so some basics weren't there. Breakfast OK

Very disappointed. Have previously stayed for the night and had no issues however when booking this time over the phone everything seemed to be fine. On arrival we noticed there was a wedding and after being reassured they were out of the way we went to are room. Much to our horror we were the closest room to the wedding room we could hear every song and every word the dj was saying very clearly and loudly. Also to mention that the shower was constantly driping and the drainage was so bad that you had to turn the shower off half way through other wise you were standing in 2 foot of water. This was particularly upsetting given we were going to a close relatives funeral the next day and had traveled 3 hours to get there. The music went on till nearly 1 am. After calling reception at 11.30 and being told they were at full capacity we had a very unrestful night. We also had a extremely disappointing meal. On arrival we were left standing at the door with everyone running around we finally got seated. We had to wait at least 45 mins for our starter and after being told that we had to order bread and olives if we wanted them we were very hungry by the time the food arrived and not all the ingredients were on the plate! By the time the mains came we were too hungry too enjoy the food. One of the waitresses on the table opposite was staying they were stretched to the limit with a wedding, hen party, Ferrari club meal and others despite the restaurant not even being full. She even said they had had walk outs on the previous night and had been told that their salaries would be deducted if it happened again. It was a similar experiment at breakfast. On check out we were clearly not the only people to have had a terrible experience and we would certainly not be staying here in the future. It could have been avoided if we had been informed that there was a wedding and that we maybe effected as we simply would not have stayed there. It was an emotional trip already given the circumstances but having a bad experience at your hotel made the situation even more distressing.

« Relaxed »

The hotel was nice and relaxed and the staff was friendly and helpful. The 2 things that didn't make it a 10 was: 1. A lot of flys and moths in the room. 2. I was told I couldn't have cheese and biscuits as they were too busy?

« A home from home.  »

I am a regular guest. I find all the staff to be friendly, helpful and polite, the general hotel accommodation is to a very good standard, and the food is delicious. Some of the furniture in the rooms are somewhat dated, and would benefit from an upgrade, however the rooms themselves are comfortable and of a good size. The front reception chairs still give a poor first impression, with bare foam on both chairs in view. I am somewhat surprised this has not been addressed, it jars against the recent refurbishment of the reception area. The main restaurant, is comfortable but looks dated and would benefit from an upgrade .

« Lovely location, not disabled friendly »

Access to reception/restaurant difficult for someone with restricted mobility. Bedroom fine but why was radiator on when we arrived on a hot, sunny day? Good breakfast but very disappointing evening meal. I have never had lamb fillet that was tough but this was also full of gristle and my husbands ribeye steak was way over the medium he had requested.

« Food and service extremely bad not 4 star »

The room we were allocated was very warm, the shaver socket didn't work,we asked for softer pillows twice before they arrived, the television ceased to work The menu was the same each night and the dining experience on the last night was absolutely shameful,4 dishes came to us before they got it right,as this was an anniversary treat we were VERY DISAPPOINTED The operations manager said she would sort it out and give us a reduction of our bill but when we came to pay nothing had been done and we asked the receptionist if the manager could ring us When we returned home a receptionist rang to say they had taken the money out of our account without even speaking to us, which we were very angry about We also consider the amount that was deducted was not sufficient to compensate us for spoiling our anniversary We feel that Mercure did not deliver ther part of the DEAL Mr & Mrs Gill

Room 50 shaver socket was dead so unable to charge toothbrush when flat - staff were unable to provide an alternative. One 250ml glass of wine was charged at £8.50 Breakfast charged at 15.50 for three sausages and one spoonful of beans no small hot breakfast alternative was available

« Lovely stay »

We stayed just one night. Room was a little small, but had everything we needed. The hotel was set in glorious grounds and was well located near to Shrewsbury. Breakfast was excellent with a choice of food to suit all tastes. Lovely spa facilities. Bar drinks and food a bit expensive. Quiet location.

Used Room 80 Disabled friendly room ....... if honest it really isn't a few more adaptions are needed to make it's comfortable stay in that room .... astonished it's the only room with such a big place , no very disabled friendly at all which is such a shame as it's a beautiful place , if it's a disabled room may I suggest a press button to open doors ...... as those doors are so heavy, if in wheelchair alone this means you need someone with you at all times . Not nice going through a kitchen either surely some ramps could be installed especially by reception area it's all about equality in this day and age . Can not fault staff helpful in every way. My stay was pleasent but could be made better . Dissapointing really

« A disappointing return . »

Having enjoyed a previous visit at this impressive setting, we were disappointed. The first evening took over an hour to get room service; no answer from reception so called an outside line to get a response! Nothing in room to indicate how to order room service, and some items not available. Times Newspaper ordered but it did not come! Tired bedroom carpet.
