Check-in and check-out were both easy professes and staff were very friendly. With the price in mind - the decor of the room itself was quite dated and it felt ‘dingey’. The lighting in the room was also very odd, there was no decent lighting near the dresser and mirror. My girlfriend ended up having to sit in front of the wardrobe as this was the only place in the whole room to have a ceiling light. The room was clean when we arrived so there was no issues there. Although it was disappointing for there to be no complimentary shower gel, only a bar of soap. Overall it was okay, but I wasn’t blown away.

Overall a disappointing experience. I have stated at the hotel previously and had booked it again specifically for the leisure amenities. After I checked in I went to use the pool, only to find that it was out of order. I was told that it was to do with water levels and unsafe. I then went to reception to ask when it would be open. The receptionist was very unhelpful and didn't even apologise and stated that they didn't know when it would re-open but I should contact the spa manager to find out. When I stated that I had only booked the hotel the day before and there was nothing on the website stating that facilities were not open I was told - guests safety was more important. The following morning the shower was lukewarm and the temperature did not increase despite pressing button on valve and turning. The water also leaked through shower door and flooded bathroom floor. I had to use spare towels to mop up water. When I checked out that morning I was asked how my stay had been and replied disappointing and explained my reasons why. That day's receptionist was much more helpful and said that she would get someone to look at the shower. However, she also explained that the pool had been out of order since the Friday and they didn't know when it would be open again and they had been told that all guests would receive an e-mail explaining the reasons why. I did not receive this e-mail and was also surprised to hear a different response, more honest response from the previous day's receptionist. I also noted a new sign that had been taped to reception desk alerting guests to the pool problem. When I settled the bill I asked if there would be any compensation for my disappointing stay. I was informed that they couldn't take anything off the cost as it had already been processed. She offered a spa day in the future but as I Iive a 3 hour train ride away this was not possible. She did say that she could order me a taxi to my meeting that day on account. I have to say that this receptionist did go some way to restore my opinion of the Mercure brand and was helpful. However, my overall experience did not match up to a 4 star experience. I have travelled extensively and this did not match my expectations based on service and facilities experienced elsewhere in 4 star facilities. It has definitely altered my opinion of mercure brand and I will not be rushing to book again.

« Lovely Hotel, but the rooms are like a sauna »

Bar staff were great, friendly, funny and professional. Meeting rooms were well equipped and comfortable, food was reasonable. Bedroom were absolutley roasting hot (as were my colleagues) and the AC didn't do anything.

Very poor tell me how can you sit in a champagne bar and have two different kinds of music going off at once ? Also spent a large amount of money over the bar in 24 hours and at times waited 20 - 25 to get served. Rooms excellent/ food breakfast excellent.

« Our experience at the hotel was very poor »

The room where we were placed was very cold the heating did not work in the room, the shower was faulty staff were unhelpful. In addition there were loud noises/shouting during the visit there was also a strong smell of cannabis in the corridor which was extremely concerning there was a lack of security within the hotel to address this as a result I request for a refund for our stay. We have previously stayed at the mercure in london Watford and had none of these issues I would not expect this within a 4 Star hotel extremely disappointed

stopped overnight after works Christmas dance at the hotel. Philip on reception desk was very pleasant and helpful on the reception desk, the hotel room was clean and comfy, breakfast very nice plenty of choice service was good. The Christmas dance meal was also very nice and waiter service was also very good too.

« A little disappointed »

Normally love this hotel bout on this visit we were really disappointed with the room. It only had one chair, my daughters adjoining room had 3, and there was no cover or cushions on the bed. No complimentary water in room either. The rest of the stay was fine. The breakfast was good and the staff very warm and friendly

I booked your Christmas Day Meal for 2 people over the phone giving all my details and contact numbers and was told someone would contact me to confirm and arrange payment. I called back to check why no one had been in touch to discover you had no record of my booking and the restaurant was full...very disappointing. After checking out I realised I had left a bottle of champagne [a Christmas present] in the room fridge. I called back to collect it and it had gone !! again very disappointing. I am a regular visit to Sheffield and have stayed at this hotel before as an Le Club Accor member but will think twice about staying here again.
