« Nice stay, but could have been a lot better »

I was staying as part of a much wider company meeting, which had put a significant amount into the hotel over a period of a year, or more. As i had a four hour drive, i decided to come the night before. I asked for this to be done by phone, but there was no recognition at all that a discounted rate could be applied because of this financial commitment made by the company. Moreover, they asked me to book via the internet. When I arrived, i asked that i not be moved rooms, but this was forced on me anyway - they could quite easily have put me in the room i was to be allocated the following day - the hotel was very quiet. Really disappointing approach, just people not customer focussed, just following the process. Very poor approach.

« No better than adequate »

The hotel looks good from outside, especially the enormous Christmas tree, but internally the decor is tired. Our executive bedroom felt pretty basic but did include the promised bathrobes and Nespresso machine. The receptionist seemed fully stretched both at check-in and check out and though willing did not seem to be on top of the job. Further training required. We were disappointed to find the pool and spa shut on Sunday night.

« A lovely relaxing break »

Helpful happy staff, lovely room, great food and loved the spa. A great place to unwind.

« Room clean but didn't like the uncarpeted floors, real fires which was nice. Staff friendly. No TV guide in room and even staff had problem finding BBC1. »

It was satisfactory, Breakfast manager very good and breakfast good. Room was clean, though my husband found his side of the bed very uncomfortable. It would be helpful if you could put a TV guide in the room and list the channel numbers. We had to call for a staff member who had to scroll through a considerable number of channels to find BBC 1. The problem was that when the TV is switched off and you go to switch it back on again, it doesn't retain the station and we had to call a staff member again to find BBC 1. She was very helpful both time.

« Not a 4* experience »

Check in was slow. Two members of staff being trained by one person. Only one computer available for dinner reservations. Paid for dinner in advance but no advance warning that limited times in restaurant due to Christmas party. Card payment terminals rarely worked. Food in restaurant fantastic let down by service and the fact that it was Luke warm. On checkout fed back to receptionist who was openly and clearly chewing gum whilst listening to my issues. Came across as unprofessional.

« Gone down hill »

This hotel has gone down hill over the years I have been visiting & has reached a new low. I will not be staying here again

Anonymous Couples - 04/12/2018 AccorHotels certified review

Helpful staff, lovely food, but a few things could be updated like plug sockets in the room & more variety at breakfast.

« Our family reunion was delightful, enhanced by your helpful staff. »

Our request for five sequential rooms to be provided was heeded and many staff members went the extra mile in supporting our needs for meals for a wide age range.

« Sadly disappointed for a well know brand »

Over all I want too impressed with the room for the price that I paid. The room size was great however the room was tired with stained and tatty carpet. The bathroom was again a good size, however again the bath panel was shabby and the carpet to tiles in the door threshold was lifted and tattered. Whist the staff where pleasant the service was very slow and the event organiser for the event we were attending had to complain about our dinner service as it was so poor.

« Room and food »

Held my 60th Birthday at the hotel and my wife and I were treated to a complimentary room and breakfast for the night.

« Mixed - some elements were fantastic while not across the board »

One night stay while away on business. Had dinner with a customer which was exceptional both with service and the menu. Drinks at the bar were great and met all of my expectations. My room was disappointing, so much so that I had to complain and asked to be moved, which in itself was a challenging experience. There is an adjoining door to the room next door and thus I could hear everything from next door. Eventually I complained but with no telephone in the room I had to work out how to use the tablet devise which at 1130 at night is not a heartening experience. Eventually got a knock on the door at 11.45 with the offer to move rooms which was fine, but as you can imagine with a 6am morning call meant that I had only a few hours of sleep. I am not keen on complaining, in hindsight I maybe should have but on checking out I asked for the bill to be split so I could determine business costs separately, reception could not achieve this, but instead gave me a paper copy bill which whilst normally fine was published from a broken printer and ineligible. I am still awaiting the split bill that I was assured would be e-mailed to me. I stay away on business a number of days per week and as a first time visitor left feeling disappointed that the Hotel experience was so poor versus the Restaurant.

« OK but Mercure can do better »

Parking terrible on Saturday night. Paid for room upgrade but would not have guessed from fairly shabby room we got (however bathroom was satisfactory so some saving grace)

« Poor experience »

I have stayed twice in the last fortnight and both experiences have been by far the worst. On my previous stay there was no room service menu and the new phone was not working. I went to reception three times within 45 minutes asking for a menu along with an iron and ironing board. The receptionist on every occasion seemed distracted by other things other than me the customer. On my most recent stay I decided to have dinner in the restaurant which turned out to be an awful experience as by the time my main course was served I was being swarmed by tiny water flies a doused or so of which actually landed in my dinner. I did of course highlight this to the stalk who observed the flies and said they would report its. The staff in the restaurant that evening were fantastic particularly the tour lad and the elderly gentleman who took and served my order. These two recent experiences have been shocking in my view and no where near the high standards of previous stays.

« Acceptable and clean, however very tired. Leisure facilities excellent. »

Room was clean and acceptable. The hotel is looking tired though and needs some updating both in the room and corridors. Staff were friendly and leisure facilities were excellent.
