Felt unwelcome on arrival from reception and as if everything was too much trouble, including reserving our dinner table. The room was really basic, small and disappointing. The restaurant (dinner and breakfast) were very good, as was the health club. I would visit these last 2 again, but not the hotel.

« Plan room noisy aircon »

The room was very plan and cold when arrived. So put heating on but takes half an hour to warm up. Large writing table but no real lighting on side so cannot use as dressing table. I had to use mirror in bathroom to do make up as brighter light but then sink in the way so too far away from mirror. Hair dryer wired through draw so cannot move anywhere else. I didnt check bed until we returned to our room about 2am. Lumps springs felt through the sheet. So didnt sleep well at all. Air con / heating turned off when i went too bed but the whole thing creaked all night. When i checked bed about 6.30 in the morning no mattress protector. So not happy , hence why i could feel every spring. Normally after a xmas party and alcohol you sleep well. Sadly not the case for me.

Helpful reception staff and breakfast was fine too. Christmas party on the night we were staying and noise level in our room (Room 51) was very high. We may as well have been at the party. That is why we were not satisfied with our stay.

I arrived at 8:50pm where I was checked in promptly and advised that I could still order some food from the bar. The staff were very helpful and friendly and the location was beautiful. The room was basic but perfectly clean and suitable for my business trip. Breakfast in the morning was delicious and the my checkout was seamless. Unfortunately I didn't have time to experience the spa facilities but hope to next time as I have been told that the pool is lovely.

I stayed over after a works Christmas party 'Orbit' where we had a three course meal, a DJ and bar service. The night was very enjoyable and staff were attentive and friendly.

We were welcomed nicely were very comfortable in our room and the staff very helpful. There was only one thing we would suggest was changed as follows; We were in a room adjoining the main house which meant we had to always walk outside under a covered path to get to our room or the main house this was very cold! Maybe it would be a good idea to cover the area in so at least it would not be do gold in the winter. However this did not cause our stay to suffer we loved it there.

Very good treatments. The therapist sue was amazing. Never had a message like that before. Highly recommend. The spa area could be better. Looks like could do with a refurbishment. Could do with a Jacuzzi. Needs more lounger chairs in the swimming pool area.

« Nice stay, but could have been a lot better »

I was staying as part of a much wider company meeting, which had put a significant amount into the hotel over a period of a year, or more. As i had a four hour drive, i decided to come the night before. I asked for this to be done by phone, but there was no recognition at all that a discounted rate could be applied because of this financial commitment made by the company. Moreover, they asked me to book via the internet. When I arrived, i asked that i not be moved rooms, but this was forced on me anyway - they could quite easily have put me in the room i was to be allocated the following day - the hotel was very quiet. Really disappointing approach, just people not customer focussed, just following the process. Very poor approach.

« No better than adequate »

The hotel looks good from outside, especially the enormous Christmas tree, but internally the decor is tired. Our executive bedroom felt pretty basic but did include the promised bathrobes and Nespresso machine. The receptionist seemed fully stretched both at check-in and check out and though willing did not seem to be on top of the job. Further training required. We were disappointed to find the pool and spa shut on Sunday night.

« Room clean but didn't like the uncarpeted floors, real fires which was nice. Staff friendly. No TV guide in room and even staff had problem finding BBC1. »

It was satisfactory, Breakfast manager very good and breakfast good. Room was clean, though my husband found his side of the bed very uncomfortable. It would be helpful if you could put a TV guide in the room and list the channel numbers. We had to call for a staff member who had to scroll through a considerable number of channels to find BBC 1. The problem was that when the TV is switched off and you go to switch it back on again, it doesn't retain the station and we had to call a staff member again to find BBC 1. She was very helpful both time.

Check in was slow. Two members of staff being trained by one person. Only one computer available for dinner reservations. Paid for dinner in advance but no advance warning that limited times in restaurant due to Christmas party. Card payment terminals rarely worked. Food in restaurant fantastic let down by service and the fact that it was Luke warm. On checkout fed back to receptionist who was openly and clearly chewing gum whilst listening to my issues. Came across as unprofessional.
