« Good hotel, but they made a billing error »

I've stayed here a few times, and have been happy with the cleanliness of the room and the service in the restaurant. Some of the rooms have been a bit noisy, hearing the room next door, but no more so than other older hotels. On my last stay however they billed both me and one of my colleagues for both our meals, double charging both of us. This was corrected after a few days, but with no apology for the mistake.

I checked in after 2 room not ready got key explained I would be back after midnight. Went to room after midnight at other end of hotel to find key not working had to go back to reception to have it re activated. I paid on line at on line check in when I came to check out this was not showing as paid so had to pay twice and get a refund afterwards. So much hassle not needed

My friend and i have stayed at your hotel for three years running. We book for a weekend, Saturday to Sunday for one night and book treatments in your spa. My friend has issues escaping for this weekend once a year as her child has several disabilites and its diffuicult for her to arrange child care and care for her child, so this is one weekend she always looks forward to. Due to her childs issues she never gets a full nights sleep, averages 3-4 hours a night. I upgraded the room and stayed in room 53. In the past we have had rooms in the "extension" part of the hotel, ratjer than this time being in the orginal part of the hotel. The room was very noisy, due to the fact it was so close to the bar. There were loud voices, laughing and shouting till 0130, i dont know if this was from the bar area or from a room nearby. She didnt want me to cause an issue and we hoped that the noise would stop, which it did eventually. I booked two treatments each at the spa, we normally book two, we normally have a massage and facial each. These were £40.00 each, at a total cost of £160.00, which i paid for as a specail treat for her. We both had the massgae first and then facial. As soon as the massgae was over, i was suprised it finished so quickly, then moved onto the facial and again it was over quite quickly. When i came out of the room, i didnt want to mention it to my friend as i didnt want to ruin it for her. She mentioned straight away how quick both treatments had been. I went and spoke to the receptionist and questioned this. I was notified that because the spa had changed their products, they had downed the time form 45 mins a treatment (which we had, had previous) to 30 mins each treatment. Not happy that i have paid £80.00 for a hour experience. Not value for money, would not recommend to anyone. These are more like London prices! Every time we have stayed with you, we, especially my friend, have come away totally relaxed, enjoyed the treatments immensly and look forward to the next time she can escape. Not happy, and would not return, shame as i live in Bedfordshire and she lives in Shropshire, so it is dead central for both of us and not too far away for her to get home in emgergency. We are now looking for other hotels in the area which offer a better service and more relaxed stay.

Lucky to be in one of the refurbished rooms with a great makeover. Plenty of comfortable desk space, Nespresso coffee machine. Clean and comfortable and prompt attention on reception.

« Comfortable room, but noisy »

I stayed in room 41, a Feature Room. The room itself was spacious and comfortable, but I had requested a quiet room and this, unfortunately, was not. It is situated next to the stairs, which now have hard flooring due to the recent refurbishment. This meant it was extremely noisy with people coming and going at all hours, going on until after midnight and then starting again before 6am. There was also constant noise from a door being slammed. As the doors to the guest corridor were propped open, this can only have been the door to a staff area. Housekeeping were excellent and had the room made up immaculately on both days. We ate twice in the bar, and on both occasions the meals were enjoyable and also well-priced. We had well-behaved dogs with us and these were made welcome. Checkout was smooth and fast.

Very disappointing. Dining room like being in a school canteen, no atmosphere at all. Food very bland more like school dinners. Breakfast in our room came with spilt fruit juice all over the tray. No plates, knives or napkins and our filter coffee came in a tea pot!!!. The leather chair in our bedroom had seen better days. overall even though some refurbishment is being done the place certainly doesn't rate 4 star rating.

hotel is lovely and clean, however they did have work being carried out, which I found myself on this floor looking for my room, maybe this floor should have Been closed off, however other than that room and food were good and I had a nice stay

Only had 5 tv channels during my 3 nights stay couldn’t even get bbc2, reported on Monday told would be looked at nothing changed during my stay as was the same the last few times I have stayed definitely not four star facilities or service

Not happy about the standard of the room... Wooden floor was dark, noisy and not a pleasant experience under foot The floor under the bed was very, very dusty Opened the wardrobe to fine only x2 coat hangers had been provided No long mirror on the wall No central ceiling light in the centre of the room making the room very dark Small television given the size of the wall.

Really enjoyable, however a bit busy and noisy in reception - dining room needs a bit more atmosphere - add candles to dinner tables and make sure enough condiments on tables at breakfast, some low music would be good too... Bar should have crisps, nuts and snacks after the kitchen closes which surprises me in a hotel that not food available after 11...

We arrived on Friday and had called ahead of time to change the dinner to 9.30pm with your reservation department but this had not been done and the kitchen was closing, however your staff was very helpful and still accommodated us. On Saturday I checked with your spa to ensure our treatment was booked as per the booking confirmation - again this was not on their system and I was asked to come back to the spa at 10.30am. The receptionist at the spa still couldn't find our bookings and asked me to leave my number. They later managed to fit myself and my partner at 6pm with two temp staff. I could not fault my massage but my partner's was terrible, not much oil was used and he felt like he was being massaged on dry skin. No questions were asked either regarding pressure, problem areas to concentrate on etc ( I have sent a separate email to your spa regarding this). Due to the time of the treatment i had to change my dinner time from 7.30pm to 8.30pm. When I called down to the restaurant, the lady I spoke to said "I will change it right now". However, upon arriving at the restaurant at 8.30 there was no booking for us at 8.30 nor was there any record of the initial booking at 7.30. We were asked to wait in the bar for half hour as they were very busy expecting 50 dinner guests at the time. Granted we were only two people, however every guest should be just as important! Then we did get seated at 9pm, there was a 45mins wait between starter and main. I requested the steak to be cooked medium, it came out well-done. In the end we just asked if we could have the desert taken up to the room as it was a stressful day - first trying to sort out the treatment, then the quality of massage that my partner had and finally the whole dinner situation. It was a pity as we were really looking forward to a nice relaxing weekend and had driven a total of 3 hours to get there and back.
