You cannot fault the professionalism of the front of house staff, but the breakfast was very bland and the pillows were akin to the cheapest foam blocks purchased from a market stall. Given that we stayed in a suite, the standard of furnishings were worse than the premiur inn near the train station

We came for our son’s graduation and the hotel had a fun, welcoming feel, including a sign above the bar for graduates. Receptionist was quick and efficient and it was great to be able to park the car at the hotel. There were not enough bar staff for the evening so the tables in the bar had not been wiped down and it took a long time for our drinks be brought. Breakfast was also a bit chaotic and there were quite a few things missing from the buffet when we arrived but the man running the room was quick to sort it. Overall we had a lovely stay - our room was clean and the shower was great. Thank you for helping us celebrate our son’s graduation.

Overpriced, poor dirty room and woeful breakfast.

The room was small, hot and dirty. There was a huge stain on the permit over the window. The breakfast was as poor as any I’ve ever had. We didn’t go down until 9:30am, but would have been better not to go. It was cold and poorly cooked.

Love the Mercure and Novotel hotels and have stayed in them many times across different locations however this particular stay was not to the usual standard. We treated my dad to a stay at the hotel with my mum for his birthday and neither of us had a good night sleep and ended up with neck ache & back ache the following day! Need to improve the quality of the bed to meet the price you pay for the room...

We have stayed at this hotel many times. We noticed that our classic double room was looking a bit tired this time and the carpeting on the stairs was also becoming threadbare in places, and there were other signs that a refurbishment is due! The staff of course were excellent and there is no doubt that we shall return again.

Threadbare carpet. Rips in curtains and chair upholstery. Damaged bedroom furniture . All very tired looking. I had a 'privilege room' but not sure of the difference. No slippers and gowns very well worn. Tea poured from one pot being carried around by a waiter so couldn't serve yourself. Very little fruit at breakfast as not replenished quickly. Choice of cereals limited.

I booked a twin room for the 6th July as a treat for a friend. Although the room was okay I found it rater dated. We decided to stay in the hotel to eat Saturday evening and had a pizza and garlic bread which was awful but I didn't complain as I could see staff were a bit stretched. I had also booked breakfast which was a complete disaster as it finished at 11 but we went in at 10 and the offering was very low and they had run out of sausages? The pastries were cold and chewy. I mentioned to staff who said the would pass on to kitchen but I would have rathered a refund as it was so poor.

Reception staff very good. Paid for an upgraded room but we were very disappointed. The room was certainly not luxurious with very small thin towels (I have had better in a Travelodge!), flat hard pillows and a hard bed.

I had made three phone calls, prior to my 6 day stay at the hotel, to ensure that my disability needs were as requested. I also, reiterated the same request when booking in. My requirements were: Disabled Access room (for wheelchair user). When I saw the room, it was JUST large enough to move around the room. They did have two single beds, as per my requirements. However, the main thing I had requested was it must be a wet room bathroom. I got a shower room with a 6”step into the shower, no seat, no bathmat and only one grab bar! I was extremely upset and then very angry.

Very pleasant, but bar staff seemed very pushed for time and we felt that as individual travellers rather than with a group, that our needs were often overlooked in favour of the group's.Never been charged for a car park space in a hotel before and considering we already paid for a room it was daylight robbery and we wouldntstayagain because of that..

Room as well appointed - bathroom was clean and modern – breakfast was very good – disappointed that the air-conditioning was not functioning. I advised reception at around 7 pm, returned around 9:30 to discover that air-conditioning was still not functioning but they had put a fan in my room – my nights stay was still uncomfortable

No Sleep at all!!

I have stayed with you on numerous occasions and have had a few problems in the past which have been dealt with by your General Manager, Craig Findleton. He very kindly upgraded me to a Premium room because of my previous issues. I am feeling rather frustrated because I am not normally one to complain but have been forced to do so each time I have stayed. However, giving it another go I stayed to pick up my daughter on the night of 30th June. The room I was put in was very nice apart from a spurting spray tap which I reported. However, from 11pm onwards I was kept awake ALL night by the room upstairs scraping furniture, moving things around, thudding feet up and down and a loud strange squeaking noise. This went on and on and in desperation I rang reception at 2am and again at 4am to ask for someone to go and stop it. Nothing was done and I had no sleep at all. I was facing a drive to Kent (7.5 hours in the end) with no sleep and feeling quite ill. When I complained at reception to Claudio he was hopeless. Although the night porter had said they would tell the manager nobody knew anything and when I said it would be nice to be offered some compensation or at least an apology Claudio said maybe we can do something next time. I ended up paying the bill in full and was offered nothing to compensate me at all. He said he would send me an email telling me what the hotel could do to make amends but to date nothing has appeared. I use your hotel regularly and with my son about to start hopefully 5 years at med school in Exeter you are losing a very regular customer. I used to work in Customer support and I can honestly say I have never met such a useless customer fronting person than Claudio. He was hopeless and frankly quite rude. The only thing that would entice me back to your hotel now is the lack of parking elsewhere. I am thoroughly underwhelmed!
